Jeff Carnes Not to be rude, but what features does this have over the built-in one that is available in Windows XP and Vista which 90% of the folks here would be using? All that has to be done is to enable it and Voila - first-party magnifying glass for Windows and free. Again - I am not trying to work against you, but the one built in works OK. If your product has more features I would be interested in buying - hence the question.

Van Swofford I bought this on BDJ a while back, and use it almost every day. I have to do some tedious pixel-level graphics twiddling, and before I had Magnifying Glass Pro, I was having trouble with eye strain. Now, I just fire up MGP and get the job done quicker and with less strain. Best twelve bucks I ever spent.

Frank Stephens Jeff Carnes (old comments), why don't you download the trial instead of asking a pointless question? Magnifying Glass Pro has far more features than Windows Magnifier, but there are issues on VIsta. First, the Vista Magnifier has far more features than earlier Windows Magnifiers. A huge problem with Magnifying Glass Pro is that it doesn't support Aero, which Vista Magnifier and Microsoft Sysinternals ZoomIt do (ZoomIt has special features for Vista). Also, Magnifying Glass Pro's performance could be better. It supports video, which the others don't always, but it doesn't support tooltips, at least on Vista, which the others do. Also, it has problems with mouse pointers. Still, it does have lots of interesting features.

Mark Hill Please do not be put off by the Vista Aero compatibility problems. The software automatically switches off the Aero interface in the active window and restores on exit. The performance hit really depends on your machine and the programs running. I have tested it with some very demanding resourse hungry graphics packages with no serious performance problems.
Please read the on-line documentation on the vendors site. especially the section "Known Issues and Recommended Solutions".
Try the download and test it on your machine with the applications you run! I am sure glad I did. By the way if you buy 2+ copies the price comes down to $8.93.

Frank Stephens The Aero switching time depends upon a number of factors, but mostly the number of open applications. You can avoid turning off Aero, missing tooltips, pointer problems, etc., by using one of the other glass positions, such as corner tracker. Corner tracker does have some issues. It can magnify part of the glass, which is annoying, although the problem can be reduced by increasing the offset from the pointer, but you're limited to 100 pixels. Also, it doesn't restrict the glass to the monitor where the pointer is, like it should on multi-monitor systems. The CPU load can be reduced by using a smaller glass, rectangular, few effects, etc. The big thing which everyone should write Workers Collection and complain about (I have, and they've never fixed it) is high CPU when mouse-shaking is enabled, even when the glass is off. This can interfere with Windows power management. Still, this is useful enough that I purchased it.

bob roos Pretty cool. I liked the full screen mode. It even magnifies videos and supports my dual monitors. BUT sometimes I get 2 or 3 cursors on the screen. One is yellow and large and that seems to be the one to follow, but there often is a white one behind the yellow one and a smaller white one that varies in offset to the yellow one. I can capture the yellow and white one with SnagIt. Also it takes some getting used to the idea that sometimes the cursor moves and sometimes the window moves under the cursor. I will have to see how it behaves under a single monitor.

Vitali Kram Hello!

Thank you all for interest in our Magnifying Glass Pro product.

1. All upgrades for registered users (who has already bought MGPro) is free, for all upcoming major versions.
Yes, we are planning next version in following months:
  * It will be much robust
  * some new hotkeys
  * hotkeys can be assinged to individual Profiles
  * more user friendly GUI

2. About double mouse cursor on the screen.
Sorry, but under x64 operating systems, MGPro can't hide real system cursor and therefore you see real system cursor and MGPro big cursor at the same time.

Thanks!

lisba f I installed a version from Giveaway of the day and for some reason I'd like to uninstall the program from my PC. But I don't see any option. Not found in Control Panel/Uninstall, not found in All Programs, no traces anywhere. Can you help, please?

Ennovy @lisba f:
there is a file in the program directory: Uninstall.lnk. You could try that. It's a link to an executable in the same folder, namely unins000.exe

Stephane M Hi Vitali,
I know you already answered to Peter Lievers about this but I just want to be sure about upgrades because what you are saying is not the same as the policy displayed on BDJ site.

When you say that "All upgrades for registered users (who has already bought MGPro) is free, for all upcoming major versions", are you really talking about upgrades and not updates?

If you are then it is a liftetime license, isn't it?

Thank you.
Sep 26 2010 at 3:18am Copy Link

Vitali Kram Yes, I meant updates.
For instance, if you bought MGPro v.1.2 couple years ago, you still may update magnifier to current 1.8 version without any payment.
Thanks!

lisba f @Peter Lievers: About uninstalling the program: I don't see an Unistall.lnk anywhere. I checked in drive c:Program Files also program Files (x86) and also c: Workers Collection (and as I mentioned Control Panel). Nowhere found. Finally I searched for unins000.exe and after finding and clicking on that it gives the following message: <Are you sure you want to completely remove the New Testament and all of it's components?>!

Ennovy @lisba f:
The file you need must be in the folder where Magnifying Glass pro is installed. The executable you found is not the correct file!

Another option is to install the trial version over the existing installation. After that you can uninstall the application in the usual way.

lisba f @Peter Lievers: I followed your instructions. a. There is no Magnifying Glass file found. b. I installed trial version over existing installation. Then I uninstalled it but the problem is exactly the same. The trial was installed in C:Program Files (x86)/ MagniGlassPro. After uninstalling, this file dissapeared but the older version is still around... Is this a bug or what?... Never mind, I don't want to bother you more with this situation. Thanks anyways.

Stephane M Thank you Vitali.

Are you planning to have a version 2 soon?
If so then will we be entitled to get it for free as registered users?

Also are there any discounts for future major versions, 2.x (if not free) then 3.x and so on?

Vitali Kram Thanks to all for your interest in our magnifier.
Next version is 1.9. And of course, then will be 2.0.
There is high probability that v.2.0 will be free for all registered users.

Stephane M @Vitali I have not tried it yet on my Win 7 x64 but does Aero effects need to be disabled while we use MGP? And you said on a previous post that the real system cusor cannot be hidden on 64-bit systems, is it something that will be fixed in a future version or something we have to live with?
Sep 26 2010 at 12:22pm Copy Link

Van Swofford @Stephane,

I'm a user of MGpro, and you don't have to disable Aero manually, the program will disable it automatically when it starts up, and re-enable it when it is closed.

When I use MGpro, I don't use the built-in large cursor, so I've never noticed any difference with the cursors on Win-7 64-bit.

Cheers,
Van

Keith Norton I tried this out on a Win7 x64 machine. Kaspersky Internet Security 2011 objected strenuously and blocked the program from working. It seemed to think the software had keylogger behavior. I suspect the software is OK, but it apparently has anti-malware compatibility issues.

Stephane M I am also on a Win7 x64.
Same kind of issue with Avast! 5, none of the hotkeys are working.
But after adding MGPro in the Avast application rules onto the firewall, everything is fine.
