Metta Zetty Mailbird is available for free here:

Where can I see a full comparison of the free version with the paid version being offered here on BDJ?

Christin User Hey Metta,

the main difference is that the LITE version only supports one account and some of our features (like Snooze, Attachment preview etc) are only available limited.
Please do not hesitate to contact our support team (support(at) for any further questions you may have.

Have a wonderful week and talk soon,
Christin from Mailbird

Metta Zetty Thanks for confirming, Mike. Appreciate your prompt and helpful follow-up.

Just to confirm: Based on the link you shared,am I correct in understanding the BDJ offer is a one-time purchase that provides full life-time access to all features and all future updates?

Nigel Blumenthal Just downloaded the trial, and I must say, it looks excellent. A couple of questions before I turn my life over to you: Is it possible to do the following:

Add more columns to the main display (such as size of email, attachment, etc),

Change the location of the stored email files (I don't want them on my C: drive),

Automatically see other emails from the same person (maybe in the right-hand window where the calendar is on default installation), and

Direct the search facility to, say, sender only, or body, or subject etc?

These are facilities I have with my current email software and which I use, but I really like the look and feel of Mailbird so I'd like to know what I might have to give up if I switch.

disenchanted Hi,

This looks like the type of tool I've been trying to locate for quite some time.
But didn't find until seeing it here on BDJ.

I have email accounts with 3 different providers; Comcast, Gmail and Yahoo.
With 2 of these providers I have multiple accounts [based upon personal vs subject matter related]
In any case it is overwhelming most of the time.

I briefly reviewed your website and maybe some of my below questions were answered there. [If that is the case, please excuse my asking]
1. Does Mailbird let you search and such across all of these different email providers at the same time?
2. Or would it be only across all Comcast accounts at once, all yahoo at once, or all gmail at once?
3. Does my web-based email remain on the websites they are on currently?
4. Or does mailbird download the email to my desktop or laptop computer?
5. or are there options for both leaving email online and downloading?

Brenda Adams Reading the Fine Print, I see that this is the LIFETIME version of Mailbird. That's an even better deal than the sale price offered at your website.
I want to MAKE SURE that if I order at Bits today (for $24.15) I will be receiving the LifeTime version. Is that true?

Christin User Hey guys,

sorry if we missed one of you, we are trying to keep up with the comments:-)

@Metta: Yes, it is correct that the licence is a lifetime licence and includes future updates.
Yes, depending on whether you are using POP3 or IMAP, mail is being downloaded into Mailbird and/or synced with the server. If you are using Pop3 the mails are saved locally but can only be accessed using Mailbird. For more details on what happens to your email using IMAP and POP3 please have a look at our post: https://support.getmailbi...P-and-POP3-

@Edward, Exchange mail server support is coming by the end of the quarter.

@dischanted, we do not have advanced search yet. Our users are currently alternatively using the profile picture search and attachment search. We understand though, that this may not be an appropriate alternative for everyone.
As per your questions 3,4 and 5 it depends on whether you are using IMAP or POP3. Please have a look at our post here to get more detailed information on the difference: https://support.getmailbi...P-and-POP3-

@Brenda, yes BDJ is offering 65% on the lifetime version, while we only offer 50% max.

I hope this answered all your questions:-)
If not, please feel free to shoot them and we will try to reply asap:-)

Thanks for your response to my email. Can you please explain what you meant by saying that I could keep my email files somewhere else "through symbolic link"? What does this mean and how would I do it please? Thanks.

Christin User Hey @Nigel, I think this post will help you get all the answers you need:-) https://support.getmailbi...-directory

@franp, we are sorry we didn't mean to overlook you. What exactly do you mean by received mail editing?

franp User @Christin User "@franp, we are sorry we didn't mean to overlook you. What exactly do you mean by received mail editing?"

Currently only Postbox offers this possibility. Pocomail used to offer it but is dead.
It is the possibility to modify received mailk exactly as one can modify outgoing mail.
At first this can seems strange Why would someone want to modify incoming mails, right ? But this is exaclty as asking why would someone would need more than 637 kB of memory ina computer.
But in fact there are many reason to be able to edit received mail.
Just one example : imaging looking for a job. You may received job offers in batch. You may be willing to edit the received mail to remove jobs you don't want, mark those you answered to, etc.
An e-mail client with received mail edition abilities may replace several softwares, making it the only software you need in many situations.
What's more, everything in your e-mail client is probably ready ; it just lacks the pipeline to allow the received mail to go through the editor.
Sep 13 2017 at 5:03am Copy Link
Metta Zetty @frnp User @ChrhistinUser -- FWIW, Eudora also offers the option of editing incoming emails, and I use this feature all the time. In fact, it is one of the main reasons I'm still using Eudora even though it is no longer being developed.

Even just editing the subject line can be tremendously helpful for identifying the message contents and adding priority flags, follow-up notes, questions, etc.

Would love to see this feature and an advanced search function eventually added into MailBird.
Sep 13 2017 at 5:50am Copy Link
Christin User @franp and @metta currently it is not possible but thanks so much for the suggestion. We will see how much time it would take to implement.:)
Mailbird - Sep 13 2017 at 7:01am Copy Link
franp User @Christin User
Thank your for the answer. Then I will stick to Postbox for now and wait for this feature. As @Metta Zetty, I will not reverse to any e-mail client lacking this feature. As a : precision : The Bat allows to edit received mail in a weird way : by putting the mail in the outbox, editing it, then moving it back to the received mail. It as the side-effect to reset the date of the e-mail to the minute it was moved to the outbox, thus completly breaking the whole thik. Too bad. Don't go that way. Postbox do it right.
Sep 13 2017 at 9:36am Copy Link
Metta Zetty Thank you very much, Christin User, for your consideration of this request.

franp User: Thanks so much for your feedback!
> I've never found anyone else who used this "inbox editing" feature as much as I do, and I agree with you completely about the importance of having this option. (Frankly, I can't imagine how people operate with out it.)
> Will also look forward to checking out Postbox. Do you know if it is currently being developed?
> Also, I had thought about giving TheBat a try, so I appreciate your heads up on this quirky limitation. Thanks again! :-)

Chinchih Lu I cam across a blog post which raises security concerns using MailBird

I thought people who are interested in this app should be aware what they are signing up for.

W User Have tried to install it four (4) times, both with the offered installer and the "offline" installer. All installs have failed. Furthermore, assurances are given here that this is the "lifetime" version, but when I received my receipt after purchase it said "1 Year" license. Please refund my purchase amount immediately.

Christin User @Franp and @Metta thanks for your awesome feedback:-)

@Chinch Lu, we were in touch with Matteo the author of the post that concerned you. We changed some things around but unfortunately he did not update it in the way that he promised. Please have a look at our post where we are addressing all these points: https://www.getmailbird.c...-mailbird/
Let us know if you have anymore questions.

@W User, please let us know at support(at) if we can help you with anything. The licence is a lifetime licence, I can assure that from our side. Once you have inserted the licence you will see it says "valid forever". Please do get i touch with our support and we will help you get set up.:-)

Brenda Adams Where are emails and attachments stored? Are they stored in folders on my own computer? Can they be searched in Win Explorer (as EverDesk does)?
What about security? Can anyone else see or track my emails?
Sep 14 2017 at 1:15am Copy Link
Christin User @Branda, thanks for reaching out. Attachments are being stored locally and can be found here: C:\Users\[your user name]\AppData\Local\Mailbird\Store\A
You can search them using Win Explorer after enabling hidden items first.

Regarding the security. Since Mailbird is an email client it is mainly up to the security standards of your email provider. In regards to the safety of Mailbird itself, please check our post here for more details: https://www.getmailbird.c...-mailbird/

Please, let me know should you have anymore questions, I will be happy to help:-)

Christin User Hey, thanks for reaching out. Please get in touch with our support team (support(at)getmailbird(dot)com. They will be able to give you all the answers needed. Please do remember that Mailbird is an email client and not an email marketing tool like Mailchimp for example. Therefore please send our support as many details as possible on what you are specifically trying to do with the inserted picture.
Thanks and have a great day:-)

Robert Reese I use private domains that use one-off email addresses for each site I give an email address. Each of those comes into a unified inbox. However, my "from" address needs to match that email address when emailing that site or responding to an email from that site.

How do I change the outgoing "from" email address on a per-message basis?
Aug 11 2018 at 2:21am Copy Link
Christin User Hi Robert,

thanks for reaching out. If I understand correctly, you are looking to use different identities in Mailbird to reply from.

They can easily be set up using the steps below: https://support.getmailbi...Identities

Please let us know at support(at)getmailbird(dot)com should you have anymore questions.

Have a great day:-)
Mailbird - Aug 12 2018 at 11:59pm Copy Link
Robert Reese Hi Christin,

Not correct. If you have domain and my domain is, the email address I would give to you would be When you emailed that address, it would come to a unified inbox. However, when I replied or emailed you, I would use as the "from" and "reply" address, specified when I composed or replied to an email.
Aug 13 2018 at 1:57pm Copy Link
Christin User Hi Robert, I'm sorry but as far as I understand it would still be managed through the Identities option. You just need to add the widget@doodad to your identities and choose that one to reply from.

Please do reach out to us using support(at)getmailbird(dot)com should this still not have helped you.

Have a great day and thanks for reaching out.
Mailbird - Aug 15 2018 at 3:56am Copy Link
Robert Reese Hi Cristin, This would require me to have well over 2000 identities, or to create and destroy an identity for each and every message.

Please note that I tried using your support email address without success, hence using this medium.
Aug 15 2018 at 11:21am Copy Link
Christin User Hi Robert, oh yes that is quite a lot. Unfortunately, there is no other way to do that in Mailbird other than creating different identities.

I am really sorry to hear you weren't happy with our support. would you mind sharing your ticket number with me so I can look into it and find out where it "got stuck"?

Thanks and have a good day:-)

I hope my answers helped you. If not please do not hesitate to reach out again.
