What are people saying about MailWasher Pro

Richard P Are you also offer lifetime membership?

Tom Billings This program is absolutely indispensable. I've been using it since its early days, around 1999-2000, and will not put a computer online that I use for email without it running. I just renewed a couple of days ago, unaware that this promo was coming, and don't even care about missing the discount, it's that good. I have multiple email accounts across several computers (personal and home business) and rarely does a flaky message get into any of them, and that's due to inattention when previewing in Mailwasher. Since each license is good for 3 computers, it's well worth the yearly renewal. It's updated from time to time and has just gotten better over the years. I highly recommend Mailwasher for anyone who uses email, which is almost everyone these days. I'm running Windows both 7 and 8.1 currently and have used it on XP in the past with zero issues.

VLM Nick - You might wish to explain the lifetime membership, perhaps a way to upgrade from today's offer to it afterward or later on.

Everyone - I echo the comments made by Tom Billings and Nelson Carvalho. This is THE best program on Earth for dealing with spam. In addition, it serves as a general email prefilter. There may be emails that are not spam, but that, upon reading the subject line or perhaps the first sentence or two, you don't wish to download. Just delete them.

MWP enables a user to create Regular Expressions that are amazingly effective at blocking massive amounts of unwanted email, whether technically spam (malicious) or just plain unwanted. I've even used it to eliminate whole domains, now that ICANN has turned itself into Domains R Us.

Use this program throughout the day, every day that I'm on a computer that receives email.

No brainer.

_*_ My struggle with the software is how it removes the original mail after passing through MailWasher. I save all my registration numbers online and some important emails I rather not lose on my email's server.
I pay for my email so I want to keep many of the mails intact and not lose them out online.

Also, where is this lifetime version offer spoken of in the older comments?

Nick Bolton I'm guessing you're using IMAP for your email? The latest version 7.5 only shows the new unread email, so you shouldn't have any issues with it loading in old emails anymore.

The lifetime license is available on our website at https://secure.firetrust....mw2010-1-0

_*_ Nick, thank you, and I am pleased to hear MailWasher no longer deletes mail off people's online mail servers. Yes, I am using IMAP.

Will there be a sale on the lifetime version as well? If not this go around, one in the future?

Thanks
Jun 24 2015 at 5:03am Copy Link

Nick Bolton Well, it will still delete email off the server, but it will only show you the unread email, so all your existing email won't be seen/affected.

We may do a lifetime license sale, although we haven't scheduled any at the moment

peter anon @NIck Bolton, I'd be very interested in a lifetime bitsdujour offer, or at least a peppercorn renewal.

_*_ Nick, I want to make sure I understand fully.

1. Install MailWasher
2. MailWasher leaves all previously read emails on the server, and does absolutely nothing with them.
3. Any unread, or new mail passes through MailWasher and MailWasher deletes the original mail from the server (wanted or unwanted alike).
4. This is repeated as long as MailWasher is installed and used.

If this is the case, what about emails that the individual would not want deleted off the server?

If I have the trial of MailWasher installed and purchase, MailWasher will delete the registration email sent to me for this very program if I understand correctly.

This is has been the only reason I have not used MailWasher. I do not want emails I consider important to be removed from the server.

Can MailWasher change its behavior so any mail the user marks to remain on the server MailWasher will not remove? Sort of one more tick-box that MailWasher will learn over time.

Anyway, I am really hoping the above is not exactly what happens as I really would like to purchase (lifetime version) and use this program.

Thanks

Sandra Chung Love Mailwasher, have been using it for years. Spam and suspicious emails clearly marked and purged. The only way the email is removed from servers is if you download it to your email program, or select delete from Mailwasher.
Jun 27 2015 at 1:50am Copy Link
1
_*_ @Sandra, I do use an email program to download my emails; in fact I have a few of these (Postbox, Mailbird, Chaos Intellect, Thunderbird). I use each for different reasons but they stay in sync with one another.

It would be nice if MailWasher left non-spam emails alone if that is what the user desired.
The only way around this for a person such as myself is to add another step and go out online look at my mail (so it is read) and then use MailWasher so it does not delete certain email(s).
Jun 27 2015 at 2:52am Copy Link
0
Sandra Chung It does leave non-spam emails alone. They stay on the email server until you download them with your email program. The only way Mailwasher deletes email is when you 'wash' it and only if the email is marked as spam. I've looked at all my settings and there is nothing special about it. And if you've accidentally deleted something you can always go into the Mailwasher recycle bin and restore it.

It could be your email service 'sees' mail washer as an email program and marks them for deletion on the server. Don't know, but maybe try changing the setting for "Store Cached Emails" under account, Incoming?

Cary Adams I'm really confused about the comments that Mailwasher removes mail from the server if I download it to my local mail client.

I use IMAP, and I access my email from multiple PCs. If I read an email from PC#1, I want to be able to read it later from PC#2. If Mailwasher removes/deletes downloaded mail when read from PC#1, then it's no longer available from the IMAP server to be read from other clients? Is that correct? I hope not!. As that defeats the entire purpose of IMAP.

Please clarify how this wroks with IMAP servers accessed by multiple mail clients (say, tow separate installs of Thunderbird, as an example).
Jun 27 2015 at 5:35am Copy Link

Sandra Chung I don't use IMAP, so no real advice for that.

If you want to keep the email on the server, don't download it to your email client. You don't have to download the email into your email program answer it. You can reply to an email right from Mailwasher. Click on the reply, and it will open a copy of that email, as quoted text, in your default email program, while leaving the email on the server.

Cary Adams Answering email via Mailwasher is a no-go. I have an email client that manages my mail. All I want from Mailwasher is spam control, much like a mail proxy. Does Mailwasher work with IMAP or not? IMAP is intended to sync email across all the mail clients one uses. If one of those (Mailwasher?) auto-deletes email, that is a bad thing. I decide on deletions.

Mark Cornelius I don't usually say much about the programs offered here, but MailWasherPro is an exception. I have used this product for many many years. It is the first program I install on a new installation of windows. Starting with the first version it has actually become a better program with each release. And nick is quick to answer questions. I'd say try this out if you are on the fence. The only thing I can think of to make it even better would be to somehow allow printing from the MWP interface but maybe that's coming too. Great Program!
Jun 27 2015 at 10:27am Copy Link

_*_ Mark, I too consider this a good program. The issue is I tried it in the past and it deleted all my mails off my server. As indicated by Nick, "The latest version 7.5 only shows the new unread email, so you shouldn't have any issues with it loading in old emails anymore." I got caught before such a time. I am hesitant to install MailWasher again unless there is a means to tell the program not to delete mails automatically.

Nick Bolton Sorry everyone for the late replies - different time zones :)

@ _*_ Mailwasher will only delete emails off the server which are marked for delete. As mentioned, if you use IMAP for your emails and with version 7.5 it will only show the unread emails on the IMAP server, so if you mark those for delete which you don't want then only those emails will be removed. I'm not sure how any other important emails got deleted if they were not marked for delete.

@ Cary Adams, Mailwasher only removes emails marked for delete, which I assume are the spammy ones you don't want to keep, so since IMAP syncs your email across computers then if you delete spam using Mailwasher on one of your computers, that same spam will be removed when you view it on your other computer. Yes, you decide on the deletions, just mark emails for delete and press the 'Wash Mail' button and it will delete those unwanted emails. If you want, you can set some of the spam tools to auto-delete, for example a spammers email address on the blacklist could be triggered to auto-delete email from that email address when it arrives so you never see it, but by default there's no auto-delete. And yes Mailwasher supports IMAP and POP3.

@ Mark Cornelius, Thanks for the kind words, they are appreciated.

@ Sandra Chung, thanks also for replies to other comments, appreciated too.

yabatopia As you can tell from the comments above, IMAP support is a bit lacking or confusing. I couldn't figure out an acceptable way to make it work with IMAP, so I didn't renew my license. Maybe IMAP support has improved. If so, please share how you set up your IMAP mail with Mailwasher.

Peter Dr @_*_ and others:

I use Pegasus, Intellect and sometimes Thunderbird as my email clients (i.e. the email programs on my computer.) I do not have any of them set to go to the server to look at the mail there until I tell them to. I also have two of them set to download but not to delete messages -- leave them on the server. Only Pegasus is set to download then delete messages. But it will not do so until I tell it to.

I do have Mailwasher set up to check frequently. When new mail comes in, the MW icon in the System Tray starts blinking, to tell me that something new has come in. I can ignore it, and Mail washier will not do anything until I click on its icon. In other words, there is no automatic deleting, even of spam. There may be a setting for that, but I am not sure. If there is, Nick can tell you, and you can uncheck that setting if you don't want Mailwasher to wash anything unless you want it to.

MW will show me the list of emails on the server, just as if I were looking at them in (for example) Intellect or Thunderbird (Pegasus is a bit different).

Any message that I highlight will appear on the bottom Mailwasher Window pane, and I can read a text version of the message. If I want, I can have Mailwasher to produce a html type of message, but generally text is enough.

Any messages that Mailwasher has learned by rules that I have set up to be spam are marked as such, but they are still there. I can tell MW that a particular message is not, in fact, spam (by clicking on the ThunbsUp button) . As well, any message that I want to mark as spam I do so with the ThumbsDown button. Nothing has been deleted.

To get rid of spam, and any other messages that I do not want on my computer (because they are not interesting or I have read and that is all I want to do), I click on the little garbage can, and the message is marked as ready for deletion.

All is still there until I tell MW to Wash Mail. Only then are messages deleted from the server. But all the rest are still there, and stay there until I tell Pegasus to download mail. It is set to delete the messages that it downloads, and it does so.

I hope this helps a bit to explain the questions from several people here about MW deleting messages on the server by itself.

PS: I highly recommend Mailwasher. Like @Mark Cornelius, it is a must-have on all my computers.

Nick Bolton @ yabatopia, older versions of Mailwasher didn't do IMAP with all the IMAP options, but the latest version does, so now instead of downloading all your emails in the IMAP folder, it only downloads and shows the latest unread emails.

@ Peter Dr, thanks for the detailed comment, very helpful. You're correct in saying that Mailwasher doesn't auto-delete any emails unless you have this option setup in the spam tools area (eg a custom filter to auto-delete, or an email address on the blacklist)

1. What email applications this program will work with?

2. Whether anything concerning email sender. receiver or content is transmitted to the developer or product support?

3. Whether any other security issue is presented by giving access to the email files to this program?

Heidi-Ann Kennedy-Fourkiller @HJ B Mailwasher works with all email accounts and email programs. (I use Thunderbird) I have used the program for about five years. . .I have detected no security issues and very satisfied. The content is read off the e-mail server and never downloaded till you decide you want it downloaded. Here is a good starting point for interested users. https://www.firetrust.com...washer-pro They are very customer oriented and most questions are answered in the support forum very quickly. I should have bought a lifetime license as I spent that already in yearly renewals. That is recommended, but once used you will always use.

Yes, it works with all email programs, including webmail. Everything happens on your computer - we don't receive any info about it's use.
Security wise, you'll need to input your email password in to the program (just like you do with your email program), but as I mentioned, everything is stored on your local computer,
