Bertie Brummel This tool is new to me. Considering that I made excellent experience using another MiniTool soft (Partition Wizzard) I'm going to check ShadowMaker too.

Are there any conflicts with other Image / Backup tools ( Acronis, O&O )installed on the same PC?

The website offers a 3-PC license too. Is this lic. discounted too?

1: MiniTool ShadowMaker "Add Boot Menu", This feature allowed you can enter the MiniTool Recovery Environment which will start Windows PE and allow full system restore without a bootable media. When MiniTool Recovery Environment is added to Windows start-up menu, you can choose to enter Windows OS or choose to enter MiniTool Recovery Environment.

2: Disk backup will back up all your files on the disk into a compressed image file, including all partitions on the disk. Of course, when you operate this, MiniTool ShadowMaker will shows disk detail information including the disk name, disk capacity and all the partitions.

3: MiniTool ShadowMaker provides a one-click system backup solution. It enables you to back up your system drive completely, including system partition, system reserved partition and EFI system partition.

Tom User Thank you for your answers MiniTool. But I still didn't get the answer to the first two questions.
I ask the question differently.

1. After activation setting "Add Boot Menu" and added to Windows start-up menu enter MiniTool Recovery Environment... this result modified my disk MBR, Yes or no?
Where is Windows located the Recovery Environment bootfile (path)?

2. Is a ShadowMaker support "Disk ID" feature... Yes or no?
"Disk ID" is unique on each disk... Good feature. I don't need to worry, not important what disk letter owns disk and not important where SATA port is located disk.

Minitool @TomUser Hi, Tom, the answer to first question is NO. Enter the MiniTool Recovery Environment which will start Windows PE, this results won't modify your disk MBR. This bootfile located in C:\Boot\winpe_10_64\winre.wim(ps:The winpe_10_64 will vary according to your OS). The answer to another question is yes. hope that helps.thank you again.

J S Currently I only have 1x working PC, but within 12 months I hope to have up to 5x PC's networked again - purely for HOME USE (eg; 1 pc for email, 1pc for web browsing, etc).

I have 2 QUESTiONS not covered in the promotion/deal information OR the SHOPPiNG CART (for home owners):

1. Are LiFETiME MAJOR Upgrades & MiNOR Updates included in the Promotion/Deal Price?

PortablesFan What is the upgrade cost from this BdJ version to the Ultimate version you mentioned to “J S”?

Also, I’m trying to find a program where I can run my OS and programs off a smaller SSD, but clone/mirror/sync those live and in-use partitions to the first part of a larger HDD which could be a replacement bootable drive in case of SSD failure. The rest of the HDD is a non-mirrored Files partition though, which I obviously wouldn’t want to over-write with the partition(s) from SSD every time.
Is something like this possible with your product?

Richard Blake On page https://www.minitool.com/...r-pro.html I see that Pro edition includes "1 Year Free Upgrade Service" while Pro Ultimate (an unfortunate name considering its 3-computer limit) and the Business licenses include "Lifetime license". Since it is stated [here] that Pro includes lifetime use of the purchased version, that page implies either that
a) Pro Ultimate and Business do not include one year of major upgrades, or
b) for those, "Lifetime license" means something other than lifetime use of the purchased version - for example, lifetime major version upgrades are included.
Please clarify.
If you were to offer a personal license that covered use on all the computers owned and used by the licensee, what would you call it - Beyond Ultimate?

Richard Blake BdJ, I just read "what others have to say..." on the "TESTIMONIALS" tab. If this was not written by Skylly or another Minitool staffer who wrote their web description, then there is a good (and unnamed) imitator somewhere. This is no more a testimonial than a copy of a menu is a restaurant review.

Fortunately several real reviews can by found by a quick search. One from PC World informed me that SMP can mount a backup image as a virtual disk which you can browse and copy from. That's a valuable feature that either wasn't listed or wasn't made clear here or on the minitool site. (I do understand this can be done with file backup.)

It also mentioned the remote PC backup feature. (Minitool page lists "manage remote computer" without describing what 'manage' means). It appears, then, that a single license only restricts you to installing SMP to a single computer, but from that computer you can back up from and restore to (perhaps with a boot CD) all the computers attached to your network. If that's the case I'd be inclined to set up a separate (old) computer with nothing but Windows and ShadowMaker, with a hard drive or two that provides space for a couple full backups of each of my home PCs, and schedule backups for the other PCs over the network at night.

Minitool has a good reputation and a long history in the PC software business, and is nice enough to offer free editions of most (all?) of their products. I wasn't looking for another backup tool, but I cannot afford not to buy a license for $11.60.

I found your reply and went to the page of the URL You kindly provided and then I went to the STORE.

I CANNOT FiND ANY 'LiFETiME UPGRADE' OPTiON for either Home or Business Users, the only option I could find for the Pro Ultimate option was the following:

In fact, unless my browser is not functioning correctly, when it comes to MiniTool's ShadowMaker product and all four purchase options (Both: 2x Home & 2x Business) that I found in MiniTool's STORE, there is ONLY a "1-Year Upgrade Service" available to customers.

And that is not at all what You have written in your first reply (see: commentId=144187) to my first post including 2 questions from yesterday, and which I quoted a partial excerpt (see: commentId=144195), in my last post to You.

So, unless there is a "Lifetime Upgrades" Option in purchase steps beyond Step One (1) of the SHOPPiNG CART, OR, a Purchase URL that only You/ MiniTool knows of (which includes LU), then I'm afraid that I'll very likely Not be Buying this Deal or the Pro Ultimate. Which I think is a real shame because I've always found 'Paid For' MiniTool products to be user friendly as well as very good too.

I have been a Bits-du-Jour follower for more than 10 Years now, and Lifetime Upgrades (Major Upgrades v3, v4, v5 etc) as well as Minor Updates seem to be something that is very important to the clear majority of those BdJ Followers who post comments, no matter whether LU are already included in the license package or even if they are an optional extra.

Here's hoping that you can help me find Lifetime Upgrades or a 'Buy Now' URL that I couldn't find.

Kelly Hamblin I would like to clone my whole C drive and then be able to see and use all the files on the clone - AND I would like to be able to take my C drive out of the computer and replace it with the clone I just made. Would I be able to do those two things?

These are probably stupid questions, but I've always had trouble understanding the difference between a clone and an image. I also want to be able to use files from a backup without doing a whole restore.

Tony Ng @Kelly, I think you'll be able to do that, that's what I did with other Software (free M.R.) Once in a while, I clone the C drive (plus Boot) to an external drive as a backup. Don't know about the disk Image/mirror .

Just a question for Minitool: after 1 year will the Shadow Maker Pro still functioning? (of course there won't be any more updates)

I wonder why they never answered it?

I asked them the exact same question myself after obtaining a copy of the program with pretty much the same deal from another site several moths ago and ALSO never received any answer to this question... even though they responded to most of the other questions from other patrons of that giveaway site.

I'm basically just waiting the 12 months out now to see whether the program continues to function (without updating it) or not once the 12 months is up.

This is a deal killer especially for a backup solution. I don't mind paying for upgrades after 12 months, but backup software should function indefinitely to allow restoration of a backup at any time.

Dennis McKay Subscription software is always a deal killer. I only buy software I pay for once and can use forever, even if I don't upgrade to the newest version. Sometimes newer versions remove things I like about a software package and add things I don't want and would never use.

People like us, who want to test and try out software are not really wanted by the software company owners. I just purchased this product, without even realizing it is a 1 year subscription. I would not have paid the $14 had I known this first. I like the minitool software products, but NO I DO NOT want to pay your company a FEE every YEAR!!!!!

Visitor-2014 As the posters above, I dislike and avoid subscription software. But it should be mentioned that this company is so fair to offer on its website also a perpetual license (valid for lifetime usage) including lifetime free upgrade, at the moment for $ 79 (license for 3 PCs). (= "ShadowMaker Pro Ultimate").

So the current offer here at BistDuJour may not be very attractive - but there is a good alternative.

Kelly Hamblin @ Bertie Brummel and others who are complaining about today's offering being a subscription. I understand both sides of the issue completely. The software vendor needs and deserves to earn something for their hard work. A purchaser does not want, and maybe can't afford, to pay over and over again to continue to use the software. My problem with this kind of program has to do with the backups themselves. I never us a backup app that requires me to "restore" a backup or depend solely on the application that created the backup. My backups - even full drive backups - are accessible with one click - like any file or folder - from whatever drive they have been copied to. If my current drive stumbles I can copy everything back. If my current drive dies, all I have to do is remove it and replace it with my full backup.

IMHO we should make a difference depemding from the type of software. For an AV-Tool the subscription model is OK, but for a backup tool? Acronis (so far) and O&O offer but do not demand upgrades every year. A few days ago I received an update for Acronis TI 2018 ....

any user A yearly Fee is just ridiculous. What if I could charge the company a yearly Fee because I evaluated their product!!! Essentially, they want to sell you a GYM membership, charge you whether you ever show up or not, and make it impossible to cancel. And Heck, everyone else is doing it, why not us. I think was Microsoft that started this 'Subscription" Concept. April15 each year, pay your taxes and your software subscriptions!!!!
