What are people saying about MPEG Video Wizard DVD 5.0

Adrian Williams Awesome !
I've just spent 30 minutes trialling this program and for the average home movie maker, you need nothing else. Sony vegas, Adobe premier - incredibly more expensive but giving similar reuslts with a much greater learning curve. OK, it may not have all the bells and whistles that the other mainstream packages have, but not far off.
I use premier to edit HD from my Canon HV30 but I'm going to give this software a try.
An added bonus is the ability to convert media to other formats with the ability to edit, cut out ads if using TV as media. The whole package is just ridiculously inexpensive for what it can do. If I were to be really critical, its the limitation of 1 video track, but that can be overcome by a change in editing technique.

The encoder is so fast that I wonder if the quality is suffering. I can only test that out when viewing the final DVD. Maybe Womble may comment on this. I'm looking for the best quality conversion from uncompressed avi (DV) to DVD.
My reminder has already been set. I'll be buying it next saturday !

Celine Lee I downloaded the trial version and was totally blown away by its functionality. Its frame accurate handling of videos (especially MPEG) and smart rendering are awesome. Within a few hours I had finished the editing of a 8 minute project that had approx 28 clips, a dozen transitions and appropriate titling. I am certain I will purchase this software.

Hank Lotz What I want to do is put VCR tapes onto DVDs. It is not clear to me whether WOMBLE can do this. Could you please elucidate?

Adrian Williams I've just finished a demo DVD of a wedding I recorded recently. The functionality of this software is simply amazing for the price. The finished product ie. the DVD is very professional looking with animated menus etc.
The achilles heel (as I see it) is the quality of the finished DVD footage. I mentioned earlier the mpeg2 to avi conversion was poor. My observation is the same with the DVD. From uncompressed DV from the camcorder to DVD I saw a significant amount of pixellation in the finished dvd to a point where i couldn't offer it to a potential client as a 'quality product' which is a major shame. Whether you use hundreds of dollars worth of editing software or $25 in this case, the end product is what the client (or home user sees). If the codec doing the compression isn't efficient, the finished video will be a compromise at best. I may have to reflect on my initial compulsion to buy, based purely on the finished video quality.

Womble Multimedia Hi Adrian

The greatest feature of MVW-DVD is its smart rendering technique. When editing DVD-compliant MPEG files, MVW-DVD will only re-encode the edited part, which leads to fast export speed and maximum quality preservation.

Converting AVI to DVD needs re-encoding, therefore there will be quality loss due to the re-encoding. However, you could export your DVD at a high bitrate to reduce the quality losing. Another suggestion is to download a better MPEG-2 video encoder and convert your AVI to MPEG file, then use MVW-DVD to author DVD.

As our effort to address the encoder quality problem, we are now at the last stage of integrating the MPEG-2 video encoder from MainConcept. By then the export speed will be faster and the output video quality will be greatly improved.

Adrian Williams Thanks Rachel for the feedback. I can't export the DVD at a higher bitrate because of the maximum rate allowable for a DVD player, 8MB/s Since standard captured DV is in the form of uncompressed avi (using sony vegas or Adobe premier) I'm forced to re-encode to MPEG for DVD. If I capture HD that too will have to be re-encoded to a DVD compliant stream (ie reduced bitrate) so the encoder is key to the process of getting high quality video to dvd.

I like the sound of the improved encoder. i've used mainconcept and it's good. I'm prepared to sacrifice speed for quality on the finished DVD.
How do I stand if i buy the software in the BJD offer. Will the integration of the new encoder be a free upgrade :)
Finally, how soon is soon?Have you a target issue date for the encoder upgrade?

Womble Multimedia Hi Adrian

You will still get full technical support if you buy the software in the BJD offer. As for the new encoder, We are considering a full new version release, and may ask everyone to shell a few bucks to help us to pay for all those license fees and development cost. The scheduled release time will be at the end of September.

Adrian Williams Same goes for me. I'll take the plunge when the price is right. Looking forward to september and the new encoder :)
If I go to the purchase page, the intitial price is £31.35. I then click on dollars, the price then shows the discounted price $24.44 so i click on purchase and the price on the invoice goes back to the full $49.99.
If it doesn't get fixed today, will we be able to purchase it durectly form you at the lower price ?

Jerry S As of 2:58 p.m. Central Time, August 22nd, the price shown is the full retail. Guess it is difficult to get someone to take care of this on the weekend.

I will second Adrian's question: if SWREG doesn't fix the price today, will we ber able to get the discounted price directly from Womble?

Thank you.

Thanks for the update. The trial is fully functional and good for 30 days. I just hope that if it the sale price is available today that I'm around to take advantage of it.

Bummer that there was a messup on the offer. I preume it is a RegNow error.

Anyway, thanks for popping in and reassuring us clamoring masses. :)

Womble Multimedia Hi everyone,

You will be happy to know that we have rescheduled MPEG Video Wizard DVD for Thursday, Setpember 3rd, and we have offered it with a higher discount 60% as an apology to you for the problematic purchase link. Thanks for your patience!

A L Bell Jr It sure would have been nice to been told about the rescheduled offer by email as promised. My wife has been asking me if I have received the email notice from BitsduJour announcing the re-offer date yet and I have been telling her I haven't. Meanwhile, she has been struggling to get familiar with MPEG Video Wizard DVD in anticipation of adopting it as her default DVD making package. Since we already own several other products (Sony,Adobe) she wasn't keen on making a heavy initial investment in yet another product. Now I don't know what to tell her. Thanks for putting me between a rock and a hard place Bits.

Adrian Williams Would you believe that this software was GIVEN AWAY FOR FREE on 16th September on http://www.giveawayoftheday.com/.

Many other offers on BDJ have gone the same way - RecentX, Iprint to name but a few.

I'm disgusted, having paid good money for them. :(

Roger Thomasson Adrian, you're more than welcome to pass on any Bits du Jour offer in the hopes that the software will appear on Giveawayoftheday.com after our mandatory 2 week window. That's a gamble, and one that you're perfectly entitled to take.

However, this falls squarely under the category of "having your cake and eating it to", don't you think?

Bottom line: if we start getting to many refund requests like this (which come directly out of our pocket), we'll be forced to stipulate that vendors wait even longer than 2 weeks to participate in other promotions. Especially in the case of Giveawayoftheday. And that won't be good for anybody!

Please consider the ramifications of your complaint.

Adrian Williams Roger,

I can't see the difference between :-

To me :-
1. Buying it, then getting a refund and ,
2. Not buying it at all and getting it free from GOTD.
Either way, i've not paid for the same product.

To you :-
The bottom line is you get nothing either way.
(And I get the software for free )

So yes, I get the cake. You lose out to GOTD.
The ramifications are therefore irrelevant.

Stefan Hauber Great offer... I tried MPEG Video Wizard in a former version and was impressed by the speed either when composing and also when smart-encoding it frame accurate.

For me 2010 is planned to be the year of blue-ray. Does MPEGVideoWizardDVD support this disc-format too?

What is/was the advantage of the used MainConcept MPEG-2 video encoder (as stated as a main-change in v5 in your forum)?

Thank you...

Stefan Hauber WHAT'S THAT?

Some hours ago the price was about 19,90$ and 60% and now the price is 2,5 times higher (and 50% discount)?

As you can think, I'm not happy with that...

Womble Multimedia Stefan

Thank you for your attention to our product and I apologize for my mistake.

The former 19,90$ is the discount price of MPEG Video Wizard DVD v4.0.4.113 which we promoted in September last year. The regular price of MPEG Video Wizard DVD V4 was 49$ and we offered a 60% discount at that time.

With the release of MPEG Video Wizard DVD 5.0, MPEG Video Wizard DVD V4 has been terminated since Nov. 2009.

This time we are promoting MPEG Video Wizard DVD 5.0 which is selling at $99 and we are offering a 50% discount. We are using the existing promoting page which we had for MPEG Video Wizard DVD V4 in last year, but due to my negligence I had forgot to update the listing price and discount rate until Monday. That is why you have seen two different prices.

I'm very sorry for the mistake I made.

Stefan Hauber Ok... Is there a little discount for the upgrade too.
Normal price is $30; If the 'original' 19,90$ (or even 50% on the 30$) would apply to an upgrade from v4, I would be happy too...

B.t.w.: I would be really interested in the answers of my question in the very first comment of mine.

Womble Multimedia Glen, you can resize the UI Windows (layout).

To resize a Layout, click Component Layout button(the third button from the right) on the Toolbar and choose "Resizable" from the menu, and then you can resize the window by dragging its border with the mouse.

When you finish defining your own layout, you can even add your own layout to the layout list by selecting "Save User Layout" from the menu, naming your layout, and pressing Add.

Womble Multimedia Hello Jerry

Since this Version 5.0 is a NEW product, and NOT an update,
especially we have to pay MainConcept for every new user;
you will need to purchase an upgrade to get a new PSN for the 5.0.

The cost for upgrading Version 4.0 to Version 5.0 is $30 for licensed user of MVW-DVD.

Also, note the main new features of the Version 5.0

http://www.womble.com/dvd...story.html

As listed on the page, the main new features of Version 5.0

1. Integration of licensed MainConcept MPEG-2 video encoder.
2. DVD Reader tool to import DVD video via IFO data.
3. DVD export size control to fit DVD disc capacity.
4. 'Video Overlay' transition to emulate 2 video tracks.
5. 'Aspect Ratio Converter' image filter for NTSC-PAL conversions.

Is there a price for "academic" version for teacher or student ?

Otherwise, when will there be an upcoming promotion ?
