PJ Harr Can the audio cutter automatically split a long segment for a given duration of time while automatically renaming/renumbering each small subsection? For example, if one wanted to cut an hour-long session into (12) 5-minute segments -- can the program do this without user intervention?

Audio joining / merging is not possible. You can use Dexster http://www.bitsdujour.com...e/dexster/ to accomplish that.

Filthy Jim McNasty Is the output quality (BitRate) the same as the input quality? eg an input MP3 @320 produces an output fragment MP3 @320?

The output quality will follow the program settings. You can change it under the settings.

franp User It is not clear if the software cut tracks without re-encoding for best result. Can somebody elaborate on this ?

Stuart Clarke I have the same question. It's such a simple one, requiring only a yes / no answer. Lossless editing whether for images or audio is a must, seeing as how file formats like jpegs and mp3 are already compressed, so any further deterioration in quality is an absolute no-no.

MP3DirectCut, which has always been a free audio editor, doesn't re-encode the files, so if freeware can do that I'd have thought a commercial product like this one would have to do the same, otherwise why try to sell it? Unfortunately, the developer's website doesn't answer that simple question: re-encode, or not?

Depending on the audio format you are editing. for MP3 file, it will be converted to a temporary file before the cut.

Michael Reason Rick, that doesn't strike me as a clear answer. Is the final output identical to the chosen section of the original file? I think the main interest is in relation to MP3 files.

Eberhard On Windows10 the export of the split part of the mp3 ("Cut Audio") causes the program to abort. Does it only work on Windows7 or Windows8.1?

Stuart Clarke @ Michael Reason: Looks like we're left with no option but to conclude that this commercial software can't do what existing freeware already does, otherwise the developer would surely have answered a simple question with a simple yes or no.

My Audio Cutter works on Windows 10. You may send a copy of the original input file to softdiv

Rick NG Hi Michael,

My Audio Cutter supports wide range of audio formats. If direct cut is not supported for that particular audio format, it'll need to perform re-encoding and usually the impact is very minimal and you probably won't hear the difference.

Gue This still doesn't answer whether MP3 is re-encoded or not. In this case, avoiding the question in this manner, it's very probable this software is worse than free ones offering lossless MP3 cutting/cropping.
