What are people saying about NetOptimizer

William W. User I installed this program and ran it in Auto Mode. To effecuate the new settings, the computer needed to be restarted.
Before install, just to make sure I would not mess up my system, I saved my Registry and created a System Restore point.
During install the program produced a detailed log of all changes it made (files and Registry entries). That already made me feel better.
But what really made me feel good was the dramatic increase in download speed produced. The upload speed remained about the same.
This is, of course, a first impression, and I realize that it may have been influenced by the incidental load on the available bandwidth (unfortunately my neighbourhood has not yet been provided with glass fibre).
My conclusion, however, is that NetOptimizer is a fine program that does what it promises.

Peter Gabriel Installed the program but I cannot evaluate it because every time I try an adjustment the program asks for a licence key.

Message says 'Only manual adjustments for the first two options allowed in trial mode'.

But I cannot perform any adjustments.

Robert User >"You must install/register the software within 10 days, and cannot do so afterwards."

NO! NO! NO! NO! That is a big NO-NO!

Occasionally a program that had been offered in a promotional giveaway was later offered here on BitsDuJour as a program to purchase at a significant discount. The giveaway offer often has the requirement of "You must install/register the software while the promotion is active, and cannot do so afterwards" or even for a specified number of days. Sometimes that giveaway promotion install stipulation was not edited out when offered here on BitsDuJour for sale. Each time that has happened, there has been a big backlash from potential customers.

When purchasing a license for the software, customers want to be able to re-install if and when needed, and without having to jump through hoops dealing with the developer (often these add extra delays, which could be detrimental to some customers).

How detrimental?

Imagine a hospital that depends on a software program but the hard drive dies; the IT department is summoned for a high priority replacement and reinstall of the necessary software programs they have purchased, but then faces the crisis that the software refuses to work because the license is rejected due to installing more than 10 days after the initial purchase. How will the hospital director feel about having to wait a couple of days to get the license reset or worse, have to re-purchase the software?

Any operations manager will recognize this stipulation as a reason to NOT purchase the software. In other words, you are shooting yourself in the foot if you think this is a good idea.

The majority of software developers already know this and so they allow the customer to deactivate and re-activate as needed. Those same companies are doing just fine. All companies should adopt the same sensible policy.

If the program has a limited lifetime (e.g., 12 months) or even a lifetime license, when the program needs to be installed onto a new hard drive or computer but requires the developer's involvement, things can be far worse for the customer. Developers do not state their company's ability to stay in business. Also, they do not state their age, health, and what year the "Death Clock" is expecting them to die. Therefore, the user that intended to use the limited or even lifetime licensed software for many more years, but the company is closed, those customers are left in limbo with no means of continuing to use the software. Whose lifetime? It should be the customer, not the developer.

Software license purchases should be a good experience for both parties, and the seller-customer relationship remains comfortable for both. The only way to do that is to ensure software licenses are offered at a fair price and fair licensing of usage. Then when new features are added to the software, a fair upgrade price should be offered to honor those previous customers. A happy customer is more likely to pay for an upgrade.

The product you are attempting to sell is intended to alter system settings to increase performance. Your license is good for 12 months, then you insist the user should pay full price to get a later version. Given that there are many free alternatives to do the same, even so, if a user were to tweak their computer with NetOptimizer, what is going to change those settings for the worse within that year, thereby necessitating purchasing again?

Applian Thank you for the feedback.

1. NetOptimizer does offer a trial. Users can continue to use the software in trial mode for as long as they desire. The trial is limited to manual operation vs automated. Our goal is to allow users to experience the benefits of our technology and hopefully become a longtime customer.
2. The purchased license key will work beyond 1 or 2 years. Only if users want updates beyond that period are they asked to repurchase and at a discount rate.

Most all will agree that quality software development costs resources. If the resources we not available to support talented engineering, support and marketing personnel it would be difficult to have a sustainable business.

This is why we thank all of our great users that have supported us for so many years. We feel obligated to do our very best in return for this support.

major4579 Applian,
You totally missed the point. The fine print says:

"You must install/register the software within 10 days, and cannot do so afterwards."

This is what Robert (and I) object to and, at least, keeps me from purchasing.

Especially since the fine print also says:

"Transfer of a license to another owned computer is allowed."

The 2 points seem incompatible. Unless you mean I can transfer to another computer if I do it within 10 days.

NO THANKS

Applian Thank you for clarifying and pointing this out to me.

In the fine print section under 'Review the Full License details for downloading and installing this software.', there's a link to NetOptimizer's End Users License Agreement (EULA) where there is no mention of having to install and register the software within 10 days. Today I brought this to the attention of our BitsDuJours contact. He was able to confirm that this info doesn't apply to our software and has since removed it.

Yes, you can transfer your license key from one PC to another. We allow users this convenience.

Thanks so much for shedding light on this oversight.

Tazzie It's a bit confusing ... allows 3 installations per footprint. Seems like the initial installation is required within 10 days, but after that it can be reinstalled on the same machine. I would like Applian to clear up some of our points.

Jason User Please last post with respect to the 10 day issue. It has been addressed.

One license key per PC. Users can transfer their license key to three different PCs . However, the license key can only be used on one PC at a time.

Robert User @Applian:

Thanks for your help to get the 10-day install limitation removed from the Fine Print. Unfortunately, many visitors will not know about the change. Others may still be too suspicious to risk the purchase.

>"1. NetOptimizer does offer a trial. Users can continue to use the software in trial mode for as long as they desire. The trial is limited to manual operation vs automated."
We already have the ability to do things manually. I'd be just as well off using the freely available Google's Code of NameBench to do a great in-depth analysis of what DNS servers work best for my Internet access.

>"2. The purchased license key will work beyond 1 or 2 years. Only if users want updates beyond that period are they asked to repurchase and at a discount rate."
At what discount rate? The Fine Print section does not mention a discount for the actual product. It only refers to an update to the software not being discounted at all. Potential buyers would like to know what that discount would be, and that it supersedes the Fine Print statements.

Before the Fine Print section removed the statement "You must install/register the software within 10 days, and cannot do so afterwards." You replied in defense:
>"Most all will agree that quality software development costs resources. If the resources we not available to support talented engineering, support and marketing personnel it would be difficult to have a sustainable business."
And yet, since the late 1970s, the PC market has grown faster than any other technology in our past, and in the process, many have become quite successful and their owners very wealthy. They didn't do that by specifying that a program cannot be installed beyond 10 days of purchase. Developers have been successful by being respectful, sincere, and fair.

>"This is why we thank all of our great users that have supported us for so many years. We feel obligated to do our very best in return for this support."
A funny way of showing it.

The Fine Print section states:
>"Transfer of a license to another owned computer is allowed."

... and you stated in the comments:
>"Yes, you can transfer your license key from one PC to another."

You also mentioned the link to your EULA that is in the Fine Print: ("Review the Full License details for downloading and installing this software").

On the page with the EULA, it states:
"This license is not transferable to any other system."

This is contradictory to the above-mentioned statements. Would you please correct the EULA to match your statements?

The BitsDuJour site's success is dependent upon having satisfied buyers and sellers. When you offer a product that does not seem to justify the price, it takes up space where a better-priced product could have been. If every seller offered a product as you have, BitsDuJour would have to close; that would be far worse; we all lose in that case.

One final notice in the EULA is possibly the most important one:
"NetOptimizer does not guarantee to improve your Internet speed."

Louis H Read the older comments and have some questions... Could one of the folks who purchased this last time around offer a review of the program? Did it speed up your connection? Did it do so automatically, without problems? How would you rate the program? Since the trial does not allow testing of the automated features, it's not worth installing as it wouldn't answer the questions I have. Thanks.

Eric Does the program display current settings & performance?

Does the program offer an " undo" feature (to reverse changes it made, at User's discretion)? Is this feature granular (or only " all or nothing")?

Thanks in advance for your enlightening reply :)

Eric Dear Mr Keith,

Thanks for the reply.

I also downloaded the free trial version, to get used to the software.

Here's the thing:

1. Reset to OS default is not UNDO: The User might have had specific settings of her\his own, which get lost by resetting to OS default!

2. From the utility's interface, I discovered that there are functions which can be enabled \ disabled, but changing their status in the utility seems to actually change several settings in the OS!
I failed to find an exact listing of what in the OS is going to be changed (and from what existing value) by switching the said parameter's status (from ON to OFF or the other way around).

What I am trying to say is that such a utility should provide complete transparency, as well as perfect trackability of changes and the ability to granularly undo them.

Hope this helps and also that NetOptimizer actually provides the features I am describing.

All the best,

Eric

Eric Dear Mr Keith,

Glad I could help.

As things stand, I will NOT purchase a license for the product now.

However, I would appreciate your keeping me updated as to any progress made into implementing the above; upon success, I will surely consider purchasing one (or more) license(s) to the "new" NetOptimizer.

Good speed (pun intended :) )

Kelly Hamblin I am using a Windows 7 pc. I purchased and installed NetOptimizer, had it run the automatic setup. It helped my internet connection not at all. If anything it was worse, and it slowed my whole system. If you intend to try this, be sure to set a new restore point and backup your registry. Very thankful that I did those two things before I installed.

Applian Hello Kelly,
Thank you for sharing your experience with NetOptimizer.

NetOptimizer uses recommended values for each supported parameter. This means that these values are suitable for most PC configurations. However, there may be cases where the recommended values do not improve a user's Internet speeds. For such cases, NetOptimizer provides an ADVANCED MODE in which the user can experiment with the values for each parameter in order to improve Internet speeds.

NetOptimizer offers a " Reset to OS defaults" button which allows users to rollback the changes made by NetOptimizer and set the OS to default values.

HJ B I installed the trial version on a windows 11 pro computer system. I let the program decide which changed to make ("auto"). After installation I ran the speed test of the program. I then rebooted and rant the speed test again. I found no improvement in the various speeds of my computer. I have a site from which I regularly download large data files. I found that the downloads appeared to be no faster after this program was installed,

The trial version of the program states that only some of the program's features are activated in the trial version. So, there is no way for me to determine whether the program does what it claims, unless I purchase the program. The vendor has a "no return" policy. Under those circumstances, I will not purchase the program.

Applian Thank you for the feedback on NetOptimizer.

However, I'm afraid you are mistaken. You said " I installed the trial version on a windows 11 pro computer system. I let the program decide which changed to make ("auto")."

Please know that NetOptimizer doesn't allow "AUTO" mode in the FREE Trial version. Therefore, your DOWNLOAD & UPLOAD speeds were never changed. This is the reason you didn't see an improvement.

HJ B @Applian
I tried both routes, and they both resulted in now or reduced speed.
Jan 4 2024 at 3:37pm Copy Link

Applian Again, you are "mistaken". How could you have tried both routes? One route is "AUTO". You did not try AUTO for the reason I mentioned. AUTO is NOT enabled in the free trial. The second "route" is ADVANCED mode. ADVANCED mode only allows two (2) of the ten (10) features. Please stop casting negative aspersions upon NetOptimizer's advanced Internet optimization technology, when it's clear that you have not used the application to it's fullest abilities.

njf It seems the license is far more restrictive than the last time this was available here. This time it seems the license cannot be transferred to another computer and only one installation per hardware footprint is allowed. So I cannot cannot even reinstall the app on the same computer after a major crash or a hard drive failure. Is that right? I am not interested in paid software that would be so limited.

Once you purchase a license you can always login to your account on the website and add additional machines at a cost which is far less than the regular single price license. I hope this helps and apologize for the delay in replying.
