Even the best desktop tools have shortcomings: "If only it would do this" or "wouldn't do that!" Nexus Dock has the right solutions to those problems. -- CNET Editor's Review

In the olden days of yore, Microsoft thought that the best way to present your applications for selection was by incorporating them into the Start menu. But, thousands of Start ===> Applications mouse maneuvers later, the world has come to realize that what we really like are DOCKS. That's why Nexus Ultimate is the essential add-on for Microsoft Windows!

With Nexus Ultimate, you'll be able to enjoy application docks that are functional, intuitive, and good-looking! Nexus Ultimate not only creates docks from existing shelf tabs, it also lets you have sub-docks, duplicate docks, and more -- giving you the ability to launch and switch between applications in a flash. Need to see the contents of such popular folders as Desktop, My Computer, Recent Documents, and the like? Just create a dock, and Nexus Ultimate will display the contents of these, and any, folders on your hard drive. So, with Nexus Ultimate, you'll be able to have docks that display any mix of application shortcuts and files!

Best of all, Nexus Ultimate helps you to get to that point of computing nirvana -- a clean desktop! When you launch Nexus Ultimate, all of your desktop icons are hidden, but still easily accessible using the Desktop tab on your dock! Even better, you can have docks that are attached to screen edges, auto-hiding until you need to see them.

Customization and flexibility have never been easier than with Nexus Ultimate! Change images in your dock by dragging and dropping your favorite photos. Drag and drop files onto dock items to launch and open them. Enjoy zooming, bouncing, rocking, and other animations. You can even play special sound effects when docks collapse or open!

Please note: Nexus Ultimate registered users can upgrade to Winstep Xtreme directly from the program itself for only $14.95

The prices will vary slightly for EU and UK customers, but the 50% discount will persist.

This promotion includes the following:
Nexus Ultimate ($24.95)
Nexus Ultimate Home Network ($48.95)

John User Hi Jorge, I have been using Winstep Xtreme for a few years and like it, but have felt it might be more than I really need. Do you think Nexus Ultimate might be better for someone like me? Is there a webpage that compares the features of both?

Honestly, I have to admit that the email I received yesterday about a price increase coming for Winstep Xtreme enters into my thinking too. I agree your software is due for an increase, but I don't want to pay more for something that I might not be using to its fullest when a lesser product might do the job.

Thank you

PS I love Wanda!

Jorge Coelho @John User - Apologies for the late reply.

There's this product comparison page on the Winstep web site:

P.S. I love Wanda too! It's the sort of thing people either don't care at all or they love with a passion! :)

HJ B Is there a manual? I downloaded the program, and, for help, it points to an online frequently asked questions.
If you look carefully, there is also a marginal reference to some tutorials.

All of this is a laborious read, against a black background. It seems to me that a program with so many features and options (many of which are not obvious) ought to have a logically laid out instruction manual in pdf format, with appropriate formatting.

While I totally agree with you, fewer and fewer applications today provide any sort of documentation or User Guide (not even MS Windows does it anymore). Most of the Winstep UI is also pretty intuitive.

Providing useful and detailed documentation (vs. useless brochures that aren't much more than marketing tools) and keeping it up-to-date is a tremendous amount of work, especially at the fast pace Winstep keeps improving its applications and adding new features.

It is also very ungrateful work, as very few users bother reading User Guides.

This said, Winstep applications were actually one of the very few of their kind that actually had extremely detailed User Guides, until the software went through such a major UI and feature change that bringing them up-to-date simply proved to be too much work.

You can still find these User Guides here, if you are interested:

Goes without saying that a lot of what is written in there is quite outdated by now, but it might still be useful to you.

John User Thank you for your response and pointing me to the product comparison page. I really would be doing the reverse - going from the more complex, feature loaded Winstep Xtreme down to Nexus Ultimate.

Although I have by no means mastered Winstep Xtreme I think I will stick with that instead of moving down to Nexus Ultimate.

I do agree with HJ B in that a manual would have been helpful several years ago when I first bought the program and likely would today. I spent some time learning by trial and error many of the features and often discover new ones. It is one of the most feature-rich programs I use and well worth the money IMO.

I'll be sending to the money next month for Winstep Xtreme which you and your developers rightly deserve. Just promise me you never, never remove Wanda from the program!

Jorge Coelho @John User

Ahah, no worries, I'll never remove Wanda. :)

Believe it or not, it actually pains me not having a User Guide as I, more than anyone else, know how powerful and feature rich Winstep applications are.

As I explained HJ B above, it really is a question of limited resources: my time is limited and I can either spend it improving the application or writing a new User Guide almost from scratch. For the time being, I prefer to focus on the former.

There will come a time where the applications will be pretty much feature complete, at least according to my mental roadmap. At that point I hope to have enough time free again to focus on writing and adding a worthy User Guide.

Thanks for your support, and I think you made the right decision in sticking to Winstep Xtreme (even if only to have Wanda swimming freely on your desktop). :)

HJ B @Jorge Coelho

My impression is that, for most major commercial software, if the developer does not provide a manual, the gap is filled by technical writers. Thus, with regard to the example you give, there are numerous manuals for each version of Windows.

1. Preparation of a manual actually helps the developer better produce software that is user-friendly;

2. It may be that most users ever look at a manual for anything but then many features of multi-featured software never get used, and many programs get abandoned because the user cannot get a desired response from the software OR unintentionally make undesired changes in their operating system by the way they set the program's preferences.

3. It may be that, by trial and error, and some intuition, a user can figure out the options and controls of Nexus Ultimate; however most of us do not have the time to re-invent the documentation wheel, when that should actually be done by the developer.

4. Your own explanation actually multiplies the reasons why there should be a manual. You say that the online help materials do not document all of features, particularly recent ones.

5. Justifiable pride in one's developed software is best demonstrated by good documentation. Inevitable faults in software are best discovered by being able to see if performance matches documented claims.

Jorge Coelho @HJ B

You are preaching to the converted.

I hoped my explanation above would have been enough for you to realize that, and also why there currently is no up-to-date User Guide.

You are also missing the point about my Windows example - it should not be up to 3rd party technical writers to fill a gap, especially not when talking about a company the size of Microsoft. Plus they will only do that if it is economically viable for them, and last time I looked Winstep applications are - still - not as popular as Windows. :)

Thank you for your reply.

Welcome to the Chapel of Blessed Software.

You have missed my point with regard to Windows.Of course MS should have good manuals and documentation - we agree. My point was directed to whether the user base appreciates such material. The fact that there are so many 3rd party manuals suggests that there are plenty of users who want same.

At the very least, although not sufficient, the material on the website should be organized into a readable pdf, with whatever caveat is necessary.

Luis C It still shows half hour before the deal is off, but when I try to buy it it shows the full price (24.95)
To bad ether Bitsdojour's clock is off or the company decided to withdrawn the offer.

No big deal. I just found something similar to your software.
Thank you anyways.
