What are people saying about NTFS Permissions Auditor Pro

HJ B It would be helpful to know (beyond "that's it"):

1. What kind of computer systems/networks can benefit from this program?
2. Whether mistakes made by the user with the program can harm data or system?
3. What, if any, practical use this has for a home network or a small business network where the computers and users are under reasonably tight control?
4. What, exactly, are NTFS permissions?
5. Does this program modify the operating system or does it create or give access to controls not intended by Microsoft?
6. Can this program give access to information on networks or devices other than those connected to the user's network?
7. Can this program be used to covertly monitor the data or actions of other on the user's network?
8. Can any user on a network use this program, or must one be a system administrator?
9. Does this program monitor/report access and access attempts by unauthorized outsiders?

Dippy Dawg Good Day HJ B

I mean this in the nicest possible way but this program is probably not for you. The reason I say this… Well when I read your #4 question
“4. What, exactly, are NTFS permissions? “ If you don’t know what NTFS permissions are or at least have some knowledge of their purpose in NTFS file system then you might get yourself in deep trouble with a program that modifies or edits NTFS permissions. Some of your questions could be answered if you had some knowledge of NTFS files. I would suggest you download the manual and you would probably get most of your questions answered but then I thought if you review the manual it might be Greek to you if you have no knowledge of NTFS Files. The vendor also has a “Free Version” you could download and try prior to purchasing the paid version. To be fair to the vendor… it is neither his job nor responsibility to educate you on basic NTFS Files. This program would not be very beneficial for a simply home network you would be better off looking at “File Sharing”. I apologize if this sounds mean or harsh.
Cheers!

HJ B Thanks Dippy Dawg, You have made my point very nicely, This is a website that caters to users with a very wide range of knowledge and experience with regard to computers and software and networks. It seems to me that, when a software producer puts an application like this up, they should either provide or link to clear information concerning who the target audience/system is and what the risks of use are.

I think I have a reasonably amateurish good idea of what NTFS permissions are. My questions are what I consider to be an outline of what ought to be provided to the BDJ visitors when software like this is offered.

I don't consider your comments harsh, but I do think they are misplaced. Perhaps you can give a try at answering he questions!
Best wishes,
HJB

feral1 OK I am confused. $149.00 is allot to me. The $89.00 promotional price is allot especially if it ends up being for an issue prior to an upgrade or corrected edition.

Given that, if one were to be knowledgeable about NTFS and understand it fully, even partially why then would one suddenly find this app useful?

Is this app just presenting the permission schemes in an easier to understand model? Is it allowing a faster change in control, switching implementing of permissions?

And last but not least, is it creating any new class of permissions that this app needs to be installed to utilize? Leading to the reverse question that if so what happens to NTFS if this app stops, doesn't perform without bug correction?

Klavs User Sorry, HJ B, but this program is not for you (as already mentioned by Dippy Dawg), so I do not see the point in answering your questions.

This product is useful for Windows computer networks with Active Directory to create reports on user access rights to network shares. Typically, such products are purchased by system administrators in medium and large companies.

I'm really sorry if this product gave you another idea of what it is.
Have a nice day!
