Albert C. I own both the installed and the online versions of Optimism and I can only recommend it to anyone who has suffered or is suffering from depression (be it a "little" one otr a "major" one). Also I think that it can be useful for anyone with anxiety, panic attacks, drug addictions including alcoholism, ...
The new sync feature between the online and the installed versions makes it really a valuable program. You can update your status even when you're away from home and sync it back when you arrive. Tremendous feature!
I'm using since almost 1 year already and am very happy with the purchases. Also James is very responsive when support is needed, which is very important when you decide to buy any software.

Jane M What is the differnece between the desktop and online editions? Why get one and not the other? Do you have an iphone app or getting one? Which would be better to get?

James Bishop The web and desktop versions are functionally the same, and we are developing them to be very similar going forward.

There is an advantage with the web application in that you can access it from any computer whereas with the desktop version you can only run from one computer or synchronize between computers (e.g. desktop and laptop) using the sync service.

There is a data capture iPhone app that we have in beta testing. There is an extra step for synching the iPhone to the software because the data needs to be downloaded from the online database. Nothing extra needs to be done for the web app.

Jason Howard Optimism is a very good program - the biggest issue I find is with my own "software". Living with bipolar, finding the discipline and motivation can be the most difficult aspect in keeping regular records.
