Eddie Tex Good comprehensive video. This looks like simplified or streamlined competitor to Scrivener or Liquid Story Binder. I appreciate that files are stored in their native RTF format. The lack of academic options (like footnoting) hurts but understood. I'll give this a try.

Darren This version is not portable, though there are built in features to help you synchronize 2 PCs, and many users have found that it works well with Dropbox.

We are planning a portable version, but we're not making any promises on when it will be ready.

Software Guy AtoZ looks good with the alphabet tabs across the top. But couldn't you just name the notebooks, or even better yet the chapters A, B, C... in one notebook, and wouldn't you have essentially the same thing here with pagefour?

HJ B Software guy references some alternative programs.

I tried Orange Notes, and there does not appear to be any documentation. I suspect it is not compatible with System 7-64bit.

I tried the list maker at effectiveaspects.com, and it was quite confusing. Perhaps it, too, is not compatible with 7-64.

Darren PageFour was designed for creative writers. It's not a replacement for MS Word and it does not claim to handle all of word's formatting options. To put it bluntly, if your Word documents use formatting options not handled by PageFour, then it's not the product for you. PageFour is deliberately feature light in this regard.

As for Excel and other word documents, PageFour has no role to play when it comes to these, and it never will.

Roberto HJ B: Take care with Action Outline, i had data loss a couple of times with that outliner. I bought a family license with version 3.2 and they say me im not elegible for a free update with the 3.3 version (i had to upgrade to 3.3 paying again with a 50% discount).

Im not fear about pay again for a minor update, but fear about the data loss. Backup, backup! :)

HJ B Thanks for your comment Roberto. I have no interest in Action Outline except that I have used it heavily for about ten years, without ever having any kind of a data loss.

It has at least two functions that further enhance data preservation, 1) A button that both initiates minimization of the window and saves the most recent changes; b) an ongoing second backup of each outline file.

The program also has many functions that permits very flexibile multiple concurrent uses and is also available in a network, multi-user version.

Tazzie Is a discount provided for upgrades past the 12 month period for free upgrades?

I'm enjoying trying this out ... I like the format and layout ... great for a creative writer!

I greatly appreciate the various options for customization, especially for the background. This is a feature that is hard to find and much needed for someone who has certain vision needs for the computer screen.

Darren We haven't had a major upgrade that required charging for in some time, so prices haven't been set. But a major upgrade after 12 months would be in the region of 50% of the then retail price.

But a major upgrade after 12 months would be in the region of 50% of the then retail price" ... if I understand him correctly, any upgrades after 12 months after purchase would be around 50% of the purchase price, which is a fairly common option on BDJ promotions, I think. That gives us a time frame and the option to buy now and upgrade (or not ... the program will still work without an upgrade) later or just wait for the new upgrade version to buy.

I'm buying now ... this could boost my productivity and pay for itself in less than a year, and hopefully the same will be said for future upgrades.

PortablesFan Hi, I bought your product today! I just noticed that your other software mentions in their respective FAQs the option to install those programs to a USB drive. I checked before buying that PageFour would handle relative paths (".\") and figured I'd have to portable-ize the registry stuff myself (for my own use only), but it would be wonderful if the application natively supported portable use! Might you be open to that software "philosophy" for PageFour also? Thanks,

P.S. a comparison chart of features among your products might also be nice, so people can decide which program would most closely meet their needs if no other reason. If there is such a chart now, I didn't find it.

Darren PageFour and Scrivener are very different products. PageFour is a bare bones writing tool. deliberately light on features, whereas Scrivener is a feature heavy product. Comes down to personal taste, and what you're looking for in a writing tool.

No Portuguese thesaurus, however.

Darren 1. How you structure your work is very much down to you. You could have a folder for each chapter, and then break the chapter down inside the folder using multiple PageFour pages, or you might have each chapter in a single PageFour page (file/document). It depends how you like to work. PageFour is flexible - it doesn't try to force any method on to you.

2. The icons default to the large size, but can be reduced. The toolbar can also be switched off.
