What are people saying about PDF Annotator 6 Student License

Daniel H Is Student edition only for students or also for university teachers? Thus it is the same as academic version or not?

quant quant I would like to buy this but would like to include 2 years support you offer at your website for $14.90, will that be possible here?

Thanks

quant quant it would be cool if there was a "comments" management the way it's done in pdf-xchange viewer. Bookmarks management is only half the story.

Ultimately, I hope to use only single program for pdf annotation. At the moment I use pdf-xchange to writing all the notes (textbox, highlights) as they have perfect managenet in the "comments" pane, but the "pen tool" is so inferior compared to what pdf annotator offers. However, the advantage of using (inferior) pen in pdf-exchange is that you can quickly navigate to all your pen comments (to which you can also assign a name).

Imagine I write some notes on page 250 in a pdf file. It's not possible to find it later on with pdf annotator, or is it?

Oliver Grahl @Daniel: This deal is for students only. Have a look at our promotion on Thursday here at BitsDuJour with the regular PDF Annotator license at 1/2 price ($34.95).

@quant: Once this deal is active, you'll be able to add our 2 Years Upgrade Assurance at checkout. Watch out for a small check box between cart and buyer's contact fields. Check it *and* click the Refresh button next to it. Sounds easy, right? ;-)

Regarding your 2nd comment, what you can do is to select all pages with comments in our Page Manager. See http://www.grahl-software...ager_1.php -- and there's more to come in future versions!

Gita Fjord My husband uses PDF Annotator at work. My daughter is interested in PDF annotator student.
What is the difference between the two programs?
Is there anything you can not do in the student version that you can do in PDF Annotator 2?
If she downloads the program on her present computer that has Windows XP and wants to move it to a new norebook compauter she will be buying in a month running on Wista, can that be done?

Oliver Grahl @Gita: There is no technical difference between the regular and student versions. Your daughter may reinstall at any time. Just re-download the software from our website, install it on the new computer, and unlock it using the license information we'll send her when she buys. And uninstall on the old computer if you plan to give it away, of course. :-)

eric van It is very good at making up lecturers pdfs but falls down as soon as you want to add a page. As you are only able to add blank pages and tring to write neatly on an unruled page with a styles is an object on frustration.

Now they say you can insert templates with lines or a background but as soon as you try and rub out anything it will take your background with it.

i am sorry but windows journal can do this and everything else this software can and it free.

Michael K Just a note to say I bought the full license when it was last offered on Bits and I love this program!

I also wrote to support once and got a great response very quickly. from Oliver.

If I say more good things you might think the Developer and Bits Du Jour are paying me and........ you'd be wrong. It's just a matter of praise where it's due.

I shall make the same comment on the full license when it's on Bits again.

Thanks

Michael

Feel free to wax poetic, PDF Annotator is one of our most popular titles and has been for quite some time :-)

Rick Truell Some PDF readers will allow you to enter info into fields in a form and let you print the filled-out form, but you can't save it. Thus, if you find you have to add additional info at a later date, you have to fill out the entire form all over again. Will PDF Annotator allow you to save the filled-out form so all you have to do is update it as necessary?
Oct 17 2011 at 9:30pm Copy Link

Oliver Grahl Rick: With PDF Annotator you can type on top of PDF documents, no matter what kind of documents they are. Your annotations will be saved with the PDF, in a form so that any PDF reader can display them (one doesn't need PDF Annotator to read your comments). When you reopen the document in PDF Annotator, you can edit, move or delete your comments and save again. So, you can write on top of forms, no matter if these are PDF forms, or just simple documents with white spaces (like a form generated from Word, which doesn't show form fields in Adobe Reader et al). Means, we ignore embedded form fields like Adobe Reader would use them, but you can place text boxes whereever you like in your document.

Let me suggest that you download our trial, so you can see yourself how it works.

Oliver Grahl Rick: We monitor incoming orders and ask for scanned in proofs in some cases. But over all, I think it's a matter of fairness in both ways, and we trust you!

At the moment I can't say if BitsDuJour will pick the regular version again for a deal, and when. We had it up here a couple of times, so chances are good.

If anybody here would like to get the regular PDF Annotator license, but doesn't want to wait that long, I think there's a 20% voucher available for PDF Annotator here on BitsDuJour. Click "All Deals" on the top, then scroll down to "Hot Deals" section.

Oh, I shouldn't have given that hint here in public... ;-)

HJ B I have tested this software and it is well worth the price. It is better than Acrobat for some of its editing functions, and also provides a free pdf creation print utility. Whereas Acrobat pdfs are composed in other applications, PDF Annotator also permits creation from a blank screen within Annotator. It also appears to permit selective locking of pdf features so as to protect against modification, in the manner of Acrobat.

Peter Smith I own adobe acrobat but still purchased this. It's just so much easier to add annotations and stuff!
Some of the tools do look a bit pre-W7, but they do their job and they do it fast!
Hopefully new versions of this software will give a more modern touch to some of the tools: shadows, more of a 3d look, more stamps and so on. But I'm pretty happy with it.

VLM To those who already have licenses for this product ... what is your opinion regarding the extra 2-years of upgrades and priority support?

Oliver, how frequently have major upgrades occurred in recent history?
Oct 18 2011 at 5:53am Copy Link
0
Oliver Grahl @GuyWithTheLongName:

We issue major updates at least every second year, version 4 is due next year (Sorry, no info on what and when and where exactly, since this is really work in progress).

Images can be added (we support all common bitmap/raster formats). There's no special support for tables, although you can draw one and work with separate text boxes in its fields (but that's probably not as comfortable as you'd like it to be).

VLM Thank you JJ.

Oliver, thanks for your timely reply. Yes, it would be nice to be able to work in real tables. How about this: Can one copy/paste a table from, say, Word, or perhaps from Excel (as a selection of cells). Or perhaps an html table from some reasonable editor?

More broadly, can one paste pretty much any printable content that one can get into a copy buffer?
Oct 18 2011 at 7:29am Copy Link
0
Oliver Grahl @JJ: Respect is an important characteristic, totally agree! :-)

@VLM: There's no copy/paste of formatted content, sorry. Our scope are lightwight tools, not to replicate a word processing app. So, we more do markup, short comments, stamps, than whole paragraphs and tables. But the future will tell where all this will lead, never say never.

We're talking about one license for version three, yes. (Good point!)

VLM Thanks for the suggestion, Emily. You just made me remember that Nitro PDF has a PDF-to-Word converter. I've not used it, but if it works well, then any PDF should become editable. :)
Oct 18 2011 at 10:17am Copy Link

Oliver Grahl @Nelson: When you insert pictures in PDF Annotator, they will be on top of the original document, just like any annotation. We never touch the original content. One thing to understand about PDF is, that PDF is a print format, not comparable to word processing formats. That means, PDF documents only consit of instructions to draw objects at specified places on a page. They don't know about those objects' relationships (that those five letters printed next to each other will form one word, for example). So, it's almost impossible to reflow such documents after inserting a picture. The best chance is to convert the PDF to DOC like suggested elsewhere above. There are tools out there which specialize in that task. They may work well with most documents, but often they'll also have to give up, because they can only guess which letters form a word, which words form a paragraph.

Steven Aves Oliver, I was in the process of purchasing using the 20% off deal here at BitsduJour with the 2 year upgrade offer until I ready the description - The upgrade doesn't include Windows 7 or 8:

PDF Annotator Upgrade Assurance 2 Years [#300260211]

Unit Price: USD 29.95 [Volume discount prices]
Platform: Windows 2000, Windows XP x32, Windows Server 2003 x32, XP Tablet PC, Windows XP x64, Windows Server 2003 x64, Windows Vista x32

I have a Windows 7 HP Slate 500. So it appears this upgrade offer with the 20% off is either old or not valid.

Mark K @ Steven Aves

I'm running Windows 7 64 bit and I installed the trial copy. It installed and started fine. What I did find was the program sometimes blocked the cursor from showing on the opened pdf. I could move the cursor around the Windows taskbar and the rest of my desktop, but couldn't get it on the program. Sometimes it would work fine. I don't know if it's an incompatibility with Windows 7, a problem displaying on my HD display, my video drivers, or??

Oliver Grahl Steven: I didn't even realize this platform info is on the purchase page (which is hosted by our payment processor ShareIt, not by ourselves). It doesn't have to say anything and I'll get this removed. We currently support Win7, Vista, XP and 2000. There's no reason why we wouldn't support Win8 when it's out.
