Charles Royal Hi guys, in order for the software to go from trail to registered version try the following steps:

1) browse to the following URL https://www.ascomp.de/fullversion/
2) fill out the form and wait on email to arrive in your inbox.
3) another email will arrive with your login info and password.
once login with the info you will have to download the software from this page.
4) Software is now registered and the "free trial" that was displayed will now
display "Professional Editions"

Richard User I purchased (for $0) the app and downloaded the installer yesterday. Today I installed it. Everything went fine, no problems. My suggestion for others is, don't overthink this one. Just follow the directions in the 2 emails you will receive from the vendor. Yes, their procedures are a little different, but they aren't that difficult to figure out.

One thing I noticed that is a little odd is that there is no traditional "about" in the app itself. If you want to see more info about your license, you have to go to their website and sign in. DON'T LOSE YOUR CUSTOMER ID AND PASSWORD THAT YOU WILL RECEIVE IN THE 2ND OF THEIR TWO EMAILS TO YOU after you make the purchase. You need that to sign in to their site and then go to the Manage Your Licenses section to see what you have. The app itself can be used "forever", but you only get free updates for 6 months. You can also download your software again from their site, in case you lose or delete the installer. The BDJ "Fine Print" says that you have to install within 14 days of purchase, so the download feature may not be of any use more than 2 weeks out.

Hope this helps. I haven't actually used the software to do a conversion yet. This is one of those "hey this might be useful someday" apps that BDJ is so good for. If I end up using it enough, I might turn into a paying customer. I have found a few BDJ apps like that. (Plug for Sticky Previews!) If I don't find I have a need for it, so be it.

s User Purchased program, waited for email. Downloaded program from link in email and used registration instructions in emails. Went smoothly. Slightly different routine than normal but worked fine. Ran simple test of .PDF to .DOC file conversion and program worked great. Graphics were in correct places. Typed in middle of existing sentences and my typing matched existing fonts of original PDF file.
Program did exactly what it said it would on my test file.
Will be anxious to try it on more files but it certainly looks promising.

JW 1 minute ago I filled in the request for this, and got my code pretty quickly.
However, following the instructions I immediately filled in name and e-mail on the registration page, along with supplied code - only for this new code to be declared "Already used or Invalid".
WTF???
This is NOT the start of a good relationship!!

When trying to run the executable I get the following message:

This has happened with some other files in the past and was not able to resolve.

Thomas Mueller There are several approaches to tackle this problem.
I.
1. Run cmd in admin mode
2. Then type sfc/scannow
II.
Run the executable as admin
III.
Disable any antivirus, firewall or other security programs temporarily. If you can run the executable, add it to the whitelist of these programs
IV.
Right-click the executable. Go to properties. In the rider "security" give full rights to the executable.

Andreas Stroebel @Barry Barwick You can convert even without Word, but the result will be a RTF file. Anyway, you can open and use it the same way like a DOC file.

Donald Simmonds It seems like this is a 'forced' trial only (no such thing as a free lunch). You will try my software for 14 days only.
OR their software is not very good, to have made such an oversight.

It does say in the terms that 'activation' is not required, but then you are limited to 14 days.
Duh!

EDIT: Just tried an photography manual, pdf to doc, and the normal text was converted quite well (a novel might be OK) but unusual text type failed i.e. 'Small Caps' headings, thus layout got screwwed up with some pages on top of others and oversized fonts appearing. Tables appeared where there were none and Table conversions were turned off.
That said, PDF conversion is no easy task and a minefield most would want to avoid.

Constantin Florea Sorry about the issues with the registration. There was indeed a missing part from the registration process. That part was just updated into the Instructions section of the receipt email and if you haven't managed to register the application yet, all you have to do is have your receipt email resent to you, as it will contain the updated Instructions section and then follow those instructions.

DiggerP Hi,

I followed all the steps under Registration ,but upon completion
there was no acknowledgement , nor did it give me a link to download
the full (registered) version.

I tried the registration again, but then it said that the key was already registered
or invalid.

I closed and restarted PDF Conversa , but it still was the trial version.
No place to put the code.

I even uninstalled PDF Conversa and started fresh - no change.
I don't get the link to the full version download.

What else is left?

Anand Tulpule I have successfully downloaded the pro version. Yes I agree, too much hassle.
However it is the best software in its class.
1.Kindly read the e-mail one receives after the registration on BitsDuJour site.
2.In the e-mail, read the instructions carefully the following.
"To redeem your purchase,
browse to the following URL https://www.ascomp.de/fullversion/
and in the License Key field, fill in the code you received in the receipt email.
3.Thereafter, you will be directed to the download page and or download will start.
4. Remove the version if you have already installed. You may have reboot the
computer to uninstall completely. (I have to do that,otherwise it shows some
error.
5.Delete the earlier downloaded file, viz. "pdfconv-March2020"
6.Now install the newly download file viz. "pdfconvVV" {i.e. Pro Full Version}
7.This installs full version. Start working.
8.Do not miss this opportunity.

Gerald User I downloaded the program twice. I used both of my email addresses; one is personal, the other is for my profession. I followed instructions on both and got the message I would be receiving an email shortly with further instructions. Nothing has been received. What's up with this?

and have some patience..

This is a 2-step process : registering the key code and downloading the full version and installing it.
If you don't get the link to the download immediately,you will get it later by email.
Keep checking your mail.
I received 2 emails - The 1st one with the link to the download link,
the 2nd one with the login info - 2½ hours after registration.

Constantin Florea Please notice that you should read the Instructions section (for the correct installer to use), then you should also know that you cannot register twice using a single email address.

HJ User The registration process was somewhat extensive, but it worked. The software can be downloaded prior to registration, by using the BDJ link. However, when the software is registered one is given the opportunity to download the "full" version,. but it appears to me to be the same download file as had been downloaded from the BDJ website.

MS Word has a pdf conversion tool built into it. that converts word to pdf. It works perfectly. Similarly, if one uses the MS Word open/browse function, and selects a pdf, it will convert the pdf to a Word document. It does a pretty good job at that too.

Adobe Acrobat also has these functions built in and they are generally reliable.

Using the PDF Conversa sotware, it did a good job of converting some pdfs to Word, including ones files that were graphics heavy. However, efforts to convert from Word to pdf yielded unacceptable results. In each case, the right-hand margin was eliminated and some characters were actually lost, and the left hand margin was expanded.

Since conversions sometime yield unpredictable results, with any software, I may keep this program as a backup for pdf to word conversions, but I will not use it for word to pdf conversions. (Unless the developer can tell us about some way to adjust the margin error).

I didn't think that you were computer illiterate ,but things happen.
The emails (3) might have gone to spam - or in my case delayed
by Gmail. Local conditions can also play a role.

BTW - the delay happened again tonight with mail from a friend in Europe.
just about the same time as yesterday with ASCOMP

I'm sure they'll make good on orders before the cut-off time

Constantin Florea I just contacted the vendor regarding the registration issues mentioned above, however there are two issues here:
1. The registration code used during the promotion may not be valid at this moment, I just asked the vendor if he could activate it again so that customers who had registration issues during the promotion period, could try the registration process again. So far I haven't heard back from the vendor.
and
2. If you did follow the registration instructions from the BitsDuJour receipt email and you did not get an email message from the vendor's server for a long time (hours) then unfortunately there is no way for the vendor to resend you that email message, the only way is that you try the registration process using another email address.

I also see that this program must be installed within 14 days. It certainly has not been 14 days. Sorry for the continual added comments. They are things that I see and remember.

Anand Tulpule My personal opinion is as follows.
1.If you face such problem while registering or downloading the (any) free
software from this site (i.e."BitsDuJour")
then disable any antivirus which you have. It may work.
2.Do not try again immediately. Give a gap of 2 hours. Many a time it works.
3.Reboot your computer and start the process a fresh.
4.Kindly also check if your system is compromised! (Hacked with some malware).
5.Also delete, temporary files, browser cash, etc.

I have done all the above several times. I've been working with computers since 1986 and help/repair several friends and neighbors with their computers. Maybe I wasn't clear. It's not the downloading I'm having issues with. I have successfully downloaded and installed the BDJ program. I received a key to send to the vendor on their webpage. I received a message saying I will be hearing from them soon via email. Nope! I have no filters on my email. I receive junk emails all the time. I know how to handle them. I am paranoid so I constantly run antivirus and malware programs every day.
You know what? This is more trouble than it's worth. There are other programs that I'm sure offer the same features. I'm going to post this issue on FB and send an email to the vendor. If my post is deleted here, I will make note of that, too. I know it's not BDJ's end. The vendor just isn't replying. Note that I have had 3 of my friends also try to get this program. All have been having the same problem.
Thank you for your input. I love BDJ. I will continue to enjoy the offers here; free, or not.

Constantin Florea @Jerry Voletto, I understand you used the registration code from the BitsDuJour receipt email and filled it in the registration form specified in the receipt email. After doing that you should have received an email from the vendor's server however if you didn't receive that email (from the vendor's server), then you should try to register using another email address. This is because the vendor confirmed he cannot resend those type of emails.

Jerry Voletto @Constantin Florea Not only did *I* not receive an email, 3 of my other friends have stated they definitely did not receive an email. And, they used different servers.
I have a gmail account. I will try ti use it and see what response I get. If none, then I am through with trying. I appreciate your interference for me and hope that you all stay well during these trying times.

Loyal Customer The Fineprint says it can be used "indefinitely", but when registering on the website, it says the license is until 12/31/2020.

The receipt does contain the trial installer but in order to use the full features of the application you would have to download the installer from the product website (by following the instructions written in the receipt email).

Mitchell User This software converted a non-scanned pdf document perfectly into a Word document. IMHO far more accurate than Abby. I will be purchasing a license for Text-R when it is offered on BDJ in the next few days but are the OCR capabilities of the two applications the same? I understand that Text-R saves the recognized file to a searchable pdf, but is the software better at recognizing scanned images than Conversa? In any event simply wonderful application and free to boot!

Constantin Florea @Stephen User, After you go through the registration process (I am referring to the registration instructions from the receipt email) you should be able to download the full featured product from your account, there should be a customer menu in there allowing you to do that.

So the application can be used for more than just 6 months, it can be used for lifetime. The six months refers only to the "free download, updates and support".

Robert User Here it is 2 yrs later and this vendor still can't figure it out. I got my code ( Still 2 many hoops to jump through) but there is zero way to input a key period. I have gotten 2-3 keys with no way to input it. U click on purchase and still no way.

Christopher J. Spilker Well, I downloaded and installed this. TRIAL VERSION only. I have the license key. I went to my customer portal at ASCOMP, this app is not listed there {a previous app I purchased is}. I can see no way to enter the license key within the app itself. Call me stymied. Am I missing something? Thank you.

Constantin Florea @Christopher J. Spilker, In the receipt email you receive from BitsDuJour, there is a link in the Instructions section. You should click that link and register in the form which opens up. Then, after registration, you can download the full version using your customer menu.

Vincent Whitfield I have followed all of the instructions received in the BDJ email, downloaded and installed the software. Following installation, it does not carry me to a customer menu but stays on the registration page.There is nowhere in the program to insert the licence key received from the vendor. How do I activate the software according to the instructions received as the only other option seems to be to purchase a 2-year version of the software? Please advise.

Egon User This might be an extremely welcome tool. In fact, MS Word opens PDF anyway, but often, this direct result is unusable, since:

1) For example, paragraphs cannot be identified anymore. Thus, ome programs have pdf export only, so if you want to retrieve their global text output, you have to go by pdf, and the pdf itself seems correct (!), i.e. between the paragraphs, you clearly see more space between one paragraph and the next, than between the screen lines within a paragraph, so obviously, the export into pdf has been done correctly.

But then, after import of the pdf into Word or similar, the paragraph limits will have been replaced by e.g. simple spaces, like spaces between the words in general, and or with just a simple newline, within the content of problem 2 (so that here again, paragraphs cannot be identified anymore):

2) The second problem which often occurs: The export from pdf will then create new, unwanted paragraphs, in the way that now, every screen line of the pdf will become a "paragraph", so that even within an original paragraph, there are multiple "hard newlines" now, which would not be that catastrophical then IF between the original paragraphs, TWO hard newlines, instead of one, would be created (since in that case, the user could run a script, first replacing the double newlines by a special character, then replacing the simple newlines (or simple newlines plus space) by a simple space, then replacing the special character by newlines, and the original paragraphs would be recreated), but that's not case: It's all one mesh then, with both the unwanted "paragraphs" and the original, real paragraphs new "identified" by single newlines (or single newlines with a preceding space, but in both cases, so the user has no chance to retrieve their original paragraphs anymore, except manually then, one by one.

You can find mentions of both problems in technical fora in the web, but without a solution.

Hence my questions: How will PDF Conversa treat the the above-mentioned problems? (Which schould be technically possible after all, since, as said, the pdf on screen WILL show the paragraphs correctly, albeit even then, to navigate from the end of one (real) paragraph to the begin of the next, a single (!) {rightarrow} will suffice, i.e. there is NO blank line between the paragraphs, but pdf (upon its creation upon import of the original text, with blank lines) will have replaced those by some "paragraph format" - which then obviously will be LOST by direct MW Word (and other) "pdf import".

Thus, if PDF Conversa overcomes these problems, it will indeed be worth 20 bucks and oven much more!
