Brian De Bragança I have just bought and installed pdfOCR and I am having a problem with registration.:
I enter the registration code in the box, click OK, and a new box reports: Register successfully! Please restart to use the program (or words to that effect).

I restart the program and pdfOCR starts up and shows at the top of the window: PDF OCR - unregistered.

I have redownloaded and reinstalled the program three times, twice with the BitsDuJour downloader and once directly from the website. The result is the same each time.

Even more annoying, every time the register button shown initially at first startup after install, or the register window opened from within the program (About - Register PDF OCR) is opened, the software (without asking for permission) opens a page at the PDF OCR website - 'Register PDF OCR - Buy PDF OCR' over and over again. It's like a bad dream. Further, on that page, the software is shown at $29.95 in a two-day promo. There is nowhere any link or button on that page to register the software and the software license activation via the key supplied is not acknowledged.

Please tell me how to get this software properly registered with the key supplied in the BitsDuJour receipt email, or arrange a refund of $14.95, soonest.

Thank You

HJ User Broadly speaking, there are three kinds of pdfs.

1. Totally graphic text - it looks like text but it is only a picture of text. Such pdfs are not searchable.

2. Graphic text (which is what you can see), but with a hidden backgound of true text. This kind is searchable, but it is the background text that is being searched. Sometimes the background text does not accurately reflect the top layer of graphic text. For example, the top layer may show pop, but the underlying text may be pot. This kind of pdf is generally the result of OCR being performed on the first kind of text. OCR sometimes does not get it right, and the error sits in the background.

3. True text that has been converted to a pdf. E.g. a word document that is converted to a pdf. The top graphic level and the underlying text level end up exactly the same.

Does this program, PDF OCR, fully function on all three types of pdf, so that that there is no discrepancy between the top layer and the underlying searchable text?

John Cook It works with all PDFs, but for the type 2 Graphic Text and type 3 text PDF, it cannot extract the text but only OCR. You can use PDF To Text Converter from PDFZilla.com

HJ B As far as I can tell, all this program does is turn a pdf into a text document, and you can edit and spell check the text document. In the process, all formatting is lost, and the program does not return the corrected document back to being a pdf.

Am I correct?
