PDF Studio has 100s of features and we like to compare ourselves to Adobe Acrobat rather than less complete products.

You can find all the features supported in PDF Studio (Standard and Pro editions) in our features grid:

Stephen Warkentien There are two batch functions I am looking for:

1) The ability to convert (or print) PDFs to grayscale and black and white.

2) The ability to resize (or print) odd-sized PDFs to 8 1/2 x 11.

Will Studio Pro 7 do this?
Mar 4 2012 at 10:40am Copy Link
0
Leila H. Answer to Stephen Warketien.

If these are the only features you're looking for, then PDF Studio may not be the tool for you. If you are interested in our core functions but also need these 2 functions then you may be able to make it work this way:

1) PDF Studio has a "Batch Print" function available in the Pro version which allows to print a list of files or all files within specified a directory. To print in black and white, you can set your printer preferences to print in black and white / grayscale in the printer preferences dialog.

2) PDF Studio does not have the ability to resize a PDF document per say. But using any PDF viewer, you could print to PDF printer driver and choose the output "paper" size to be 8 1/2 x 11.
There are many free ones out there, read this entry in our knowledge base: https://sites.google.com/.../createpdf)

Husker Tech Is it correct that only the Pro version permits the editing of text within an existing PDF document? Thanks.
Mar 4 2012 at 12:35pm Copy Link
0
Leila H. Yes, in PDF Studio 7 we've added the ability to edit text in a PDF document. It is also possible to delete or move text around (as well as images or shapes) and redact text. Text redaction consists in removing text from the document content and covering it with a black rectangle to indicate that the document was redacted. It is used to hide confidential data.

Please remain aware that editing text in a PDF document is not the same as with a word processor. The way fonts and text are defined in a PDF document makes editing a very complicated function to tackle. So usually it is only recommended for very limited editing (typos, misspells). Otherwise, it is recommended to go back to the original document (in Word format for instance), edit and then output it to PDF again.

Husker Tech Thank you for your very thorough response. However, I’m not prepared to purchase the Pro version to have the ability to edit documents.

Javier Gil I just found that you're the guys who make qPDF notes for Android, which I purchased and it's a great app. Well done, guys! :)
Now, one of the main features that I need is stamp transparency (and by this I mean the transparency of the stamps that I create, for these will be the ones that I use). I've noticed that the program does let me choose the level of transparency when I import an image, however, when I try to use that stamp on a document, the transparency is fixed, it no longer lets me change it (the option is actually greyed out). To me, this is a big issue, as stamp versatility is what can really make an impact on a document, particularly a content rich one...
In my case, I would need to apply different levels of transparency to the different stamps that I use on a doc, but I don´t think that can be done at present...
Adding sound to a document was impressively easy!
The tools seem to work pretty fast too.
Thumbs up!

Chris Roy Jackson When you fill in and save a PDF Form... is the saved document a new "fixed" (or static) document, or is it the original form saved with your (editable) "data" in place ???
Mar 5 2012 at 3:08am Copy Link

Pauline Redblum As a user, I know that PDF Studio 7 Pro lets me define my own custom stamps.
To use the same image at different transparencies, I use Gimp to save a copy of the image in various transparencies as separate files.
then, I import each with a distinctive name to that stamp ("50Approved" and "75Approved", for instance).
Once in, I can apply the different transparency stamps on the same document thru either using the Stamp Tool menu, or selecting from the ToolChest.
I agree, by the way, that qPDF Notes is also great, and that both tools are quick and useful!
Mar 5 2012 at 3:17am Copy Link
0
Javier Gil Pauline: Unfortunately that wouldn't be very practical, as I use hundreds of different stamps and if I have to save a different one for each level of transparency, I'd have thousands of different stamps!

Leila H. Answer to Chris Roy Jackson

When you fill interactive forms the data saved in the PDF form is still editable after you save and reopen a document.

If you wish to make the fields data un-editable you can do so by flattening the form fields.

Look under Forms - Flatten All Fields from the top menu bar. Flattening means that the form data is added to the content of the PDF document itself and the forms are not interactive anymore.

You can still use the coupon BITS2012 in our online store today until midnight. The coupon works for both Pro and Standard edition. If Filling form fields is available in the Standard edition.

VLM Leila, I know you cannot answer this question directly, but without revealing private business plans, can you comment on how close we may be to a major version upgrade? How long ago was version 7 first released?

Also, the description, above, states "Scan-to-PDF with PDF Studio 7". But from the conversation during your last promotion here at BDJ, PDF Studio 7 does not have an OCR engine. So ... I feel confused ... If you use this software to scan to PDF, do you get a fully searchable document?

Thanks!

Andrew Smith Could you tell me if pdf Studio has "stamps"? I currently use Acrobat, but find its stamp options rather limited. Some pdf editors have stamp transparency options, stamp shadows, creation of your own stamps, stamp import (rather than doing it 1 by one, like acrobat), etc.
Jul 31 2012 at 4:02am Copy Link
0
Leila H. To Andrew Smith:
Yes, PDF Studio delivers over a dozen 'standard' stamps, and both versions allow the user to create your own custom stamps.
In the Standard version, users may create text stamps, or image stamps.
In the Pro version, users have even more stamp creation capabilities. Both text and images may be combined into custom stamps with Pro.
In addition to creating stamps that you add to your menu of stamps, PDF Studio also lets you import images to 'stamp' onto the current document.
With the Toolbar, PDF Studio users can also easily define favorite annotations to apply consistently across documents.

Leila H. To VLM:
I'll answer your first two question with references to our website:
- Version 8 has been predicted for sometime this fall. See the June 21, 2012 comment in our knowledgebase: http://kbpdfstudio.qoppa.com/general
- Version 7 was released December 2011. We post a version history at http://www.qoppa.com/pdfs...sions.html

PDF Studio 7 accepts input from scanners, converts directly into PDF.
Many scanners these days perform OCR and deliver fully searchable text.
For those scanners that provide only an image, PDF Studio still converts that image to easily portable PDF that can be annotated with a wide range of comment types. To help our customers whose scanners do not provide OCR interpretation, we have added an area highlighter so you can highlight the non-text portions of scanned pages, even if they are pictures of text.

To Gonzo & VLM:
We have chosen to expend our energies on making our products the best they can be. We leave the feature by feature comparisons to others.

As for the comment last spring, I was referring more to our internal analysis of product features to be sure we're bringing the most important collaboration capabilities to our customers on all platforms, as we continually develop, refine, or add to our products.

I see your point of view, and I hope you'll see mine, too. You can put the best features in the Universe into a product, but if people don't comprehend what those features are, your company will not fulfill its potential.

When you make claims that basically amount to "best thing since sliced bread", then state that you are unwilling to elaborate upon or back up those claims, it may not go over well with some potential customers. We are only asking you to provide the comparison you MUST have done in order to make the high-level claims in the first place. And if the claims are true, then why on Earth would you NOT chose to share the information?

Make sense?

Susan Sims To pc altair:
You are correct that one need not upgrade, unless the next version brings features and enhancements that you can use. The PDF Studio 7 license you purchase today will run indefinitely.

However, your calculations are confused.
When PDF Studio 8 comes out, the upgrade price from version 7 will not be the full price of the license, and the 30% discount will apply to that upgrade price.
And, until Version 8 comes out, you will have a powerful, easy to use PDF Editor that will enable you to Create, Annotate, Review, And Edit PDF Documents.

Leila H. @winton guy: Sorry, we don't have a comparison matrix between bluebeam review and PDF Studio.

But we do have a comparison matrix to compare with Adobe Acrobat:
http://www.qoppa.com/pdfs...robat.html

PDF Studio does have measurement tools (distance, area and perimeter). Bluebeam Revu is specialized for architects and engineers and for instance offers a library of gemometrical symbols that PDF Studio does not have. In PDF Studio, users can create and save their own custom stamps and preferred annotations, thus creating their own library.

PDF Studio is cheaper than Bluebeam Revu and works on all operating systems: Mac OSX, Windows, Linux and Unix.

Brian H Hi- I looked for some independent reviews of this product, and all were very favorable. :-) One feature a particular reviewer said the program lacked was the ability to "create" PDFs- and the reviewer was quite critical of this missing feature- but he otherwise loved everything else about the program. I was wondering if PDF creation had perhaps been added since the review was written; and with this new version 8.x release. If Leila, or another company rep, would kindly reply when they have a moment, I would be interested to know abut this. Thanks. -Brian

PDF Studio also has a "tool chest" that allows users to save their favorite used annotations (including stamps) and makes it easy to preview and add them to a page. PDF Studio does not offer a way to import a library of images as stamps at once, it has to be done one image at a time at the moment. Regarding stamp transparency, it is supported (images in png and gif format).

By the way there are all discontinued versions of Photoshop, creativestudio,...available as full version for free =)

VLM I tend to work with MANY PDF documents open at once. Will PDF Studio 8 keep track of them all when the program

a. shuts down normally
b. crashes, or the system crashes, or whatever

How many documents are remembered? Are they organized in any way as Acrobat does, say today, 7 days, 30 days, etc. or some other way?

Will the program remember a document that has been downloaded adn opened, but has not yet been saved (File Save As) when the program is closed or crashes?

Finally, is it possible to pay be sending cash, money order, using PayNearMe, or some other way that does not use the electronic central banking system?

Thanks!

Phil Tobin @ Sascha Tuberkel: Er, you and anyone else would be on a hiding to nothing if you thought Adobe's Creative Suite 2 was now free of charge. It isn't and it never was. Adobe has simply shut down the product activation servers for this 7-year-old suite but has posted the appropriate serial numbers on its download site for the benefit of any existing users wishing to re-install a *licensed* copy. The serial number won't work without the license code.

This hare was started running by some blogger who completely misread / misunderstood what Adobe was doing for existing customers. As is the way of the Internet, the blog's misinformation was then peddled by a number of other bloggers and websites who evidently couldn't be bothered to make even a cursory check on the veracity of the source.

Based on your last comment, I would suggest you try the following:
-If you tried with only 1 browser, try with another one. Also, clear your browser's cache and cookies.
-If you tried with several browsers already, then there's something "blocking" the download of the Windows version. Being an exe file, I'd say most likley your Antivirus, Firewall, or Anti malware is the culprit.
Disable any security software you have, then try to download again.

Harlen Wiebe In Adobe Standard or Pro when you open the pages thumbnail view, you can drag and drop one or more pages into the page thunbnail view of another open PDF file. Does PDF Studio have a similar function. I checked your comparison page http://www.qoppa.com/pdfs...robat.html as noted in an earlier post and this feature wasn't even listed there as an Adobe only feature.

Leila H. @VLM PDF Studio will display the last 10 documents opened under File - Open Recent. We are not keeping a history organized by date at the moment but have plans to do so.

Upon closing a document which was modified in PDF Studio, it will prompt you to save the document.

We keep a copy of the file before saving a document in case any problem happens during save. We don't save as we go so there is no mechanism in case of crash to restore the changes you had made.

Also, if working with a lot of documents at a time, look into our knowledge base to allocate more memory to the app.

Our standard methods of payment for single license sale are credit card, paypal and google wallet. However, if you do not like online payment, we will be glad to process your money order.

VLM Leila H. - Thank you for your kind response. I imagine you have access to my private email, if you would be kind enough to send me information on where to send the money order, I will take care of it. I will take the future expanded list of recent documents/history on faith. :):) Really, as long as there is enough RAM there should be no limit on the number of docs open, and as long as their is disk space there should be no limit on the number of files remembered, IMO. Perhaps there should be a warning to tip of a user that some adjustment to memory allocation (or the like) needs to be made), but really, it's not necessary for the software vendor to protect users who can reasonably be expected to take responsibility for their own acts. Again, IMO. :):)

Thanks!!!

R A I've used PDF Studio since version 6 and have been consistently impressed with its performance. Its fast and responsible and allows me to open PDFs in English, Chinese and Japanese, and it runs on my Windows and Linux computers.

The most important feature for me is the ability to annotate PDFs by highlighting text and add comments. I also like the fact that the user can switch between several computers running Linux, Apple OS, and Windows, and can continue to use PDF Studio with the same license. Nice!

Colin Koh Hi,

For pdf-studio-8-pro:-
Is the feature "Fill in and save PDF forms, interactive and flat forms" available?
Jun 16 2013 at 2:37am Copy Link
0
Leila H. Hi Colin

Yes PDF Studio can do this. It can fill and save interactive PDF forms. Our new support for JavaScript forms in version 8 makes it easier to fill forms with calculations, validation and formatting.

It can also flatten forms, which means that it can take the values of the interactive form fields and add them directly to the content of the PDF document, making the document "flat", not an interactive form anymore.

You can try our free demo version and take the time to evaluate our product before the promo date to make sure it fills all your needs.

Bradley MacDonald Hello Leila,

I see above you note the flattening of files. I have an interesting case - where I have FDF and PDF files that I need to flatten. And I can use the PDFToolKit to do it - but I have a problem. When I flatten them - all the text is imported correctly - but there are some graphing data elements in the FDF that are not being plotted in the resulting PDF (ie I get all the normal text - but it does not show the graph). Do you know if your software will deal with this?

Also - the FDF Export feature - What formats will it export the FDF data out to?

Thank you.

Leila H. Hi John

One license of PDF Studio 8 allows to install the software on up to 2 machines. It is OK to use the software concurrently on both machines. The 2 machines can be any operating systems: Windows, Mac OS X or Linux / Unix.

Leila H. Hi Bradley - I assume you have an FDF file that you import in a PDF and then flatten it. PDF Studio should support the whole FDF format including images associated with FDF form fields. Best thing for you is to try our free demo. You can also email your 2 files at studiosupportqoppa.com.

Concerning exporting form data, FDF is the format, it is a subset of the PDF format to export only form field data. PDF Studio also support exporting in XFDF (XML) format or XDP format (for liveceycle XFA forms).

Johno Hi Leila, I have responded to your e-mailed response also. Yes, in the past and still on our old (about to be retired) pc that is running Windows XP we have used Paperport&Omnipage. However, we are VERY unhappy with the Paperport (& Omnipage Pro) support for customers, and even more unhappy with the way they dont offer an upgrade path for existing customers (for instance the Paperport & Omnipage we have are not that old, however to upgrade to the current version they are wanting us to pay FULL price - so with their slack support & service & unreasonable pricing for existing customers to upgrade we are not staying with them. They are not encouraging loyalty thats for sure.
Its great to see on the payments page how you are offering existing customers of your products a reasonable discount to upgrade.
Thanks for getting back to me Leila.
Regards,
John Storrs.
Ps. and from what i have seen in the videos of PDF Studio 8 it has all the document management features that I need, I am more interested in PDF Studio 8 for its scan to pdf, editing and OCR functions, which is what I used mostly in paperport/omnipage anyway.

Bradley MacDonald Commentary on Suppport of this Product.
I had a question above - and Leila recommended I send it to support. It is a very technical issue with a PDF form and FDF file that I have been struggling with for months. It has to do with how the form is designed and the underlying FDF code - Not the PDF Studio program.

However, not only was the support person (Leila) able to deal with it in a couple of hours - she was able to provide more information than anyone I have been dealing with for the last few months - including the original author of the form...

Very, VERY impressive support and knowledge. I would recommend this product for that alone - but it is a good product as well!!

Our OCR is built on Tesseract which was developed by HP and is now enhanced by Google. It's pretty good but, from our testing, it is not as good as Abby FineReader. But, of course, FineReader only does OCR...

German is supported in OCR and Dutch too, by downloading an additional language file, as documented here: http://kbpdfstudio.qoppa.com/?p=135

I tried to edit some existing Pdf files, but stumbled into a problem.
If I try to edit some text already using a nonstandard font (e.g. Lucida, Calibri) the program tells that the font mapping is invalid and spaces the string differently or changes some characters.
Having these fonts installed on my PC I would guess the program could get from the environment what is missing. But no.
In every case, I see no way to embed a new font.
This is a very tough problem for me.....

VLM Hi Leila, nice to "see" you again! A few questions, largely referencing older conversations:

1. Does the program now provide the ability to set/control stamp transparency on the fly?

2. I tend to work with MANY PDF documents open at once. In the past, you have reported that the product only keeps track of 10 recent documents and keeps no track at all of unsaved documents in the event of a crash--even though those documents are already on a disk somewhere, at least in some Temp folder. Has this been improved at all? Honestly, for anyone who does serious research, 10 is a pittance.

In this vein, Acrobat organizes prior documents very nicely, as, say today, 7 days, 30 days, etc. Does your product offer anything similar?

For me, this sort of question goes to the heart of "just as good as Acrobat" claims. If it's just as good as Acrobat, then it should at least do what Acrobat does, and it should improve in some places where users can benefit and frankly, where it's easy. Increasing the number of recent documents is EASY!!!!!

VLM Leila H - Thank you for your kind responses. I'm glad to see some support for stamp transparency setting on the fly. Hopefully, that area will continue to improve over time, though I imagine it's not at the top of your priority list. :)

Regarding the list of recent documents and ways of organizing and presenting that list, I do realize that you re busy. We are all busy. So I'd like to share a scenario, to give you an idea of just how valuable this can be to some users.

I do a LOT of research, working in primary historical documents, studies, etc. I download a LOT of PDF documents daily--dozens on a light to moderate day, more than a hundred on many days.

My work style--and this is rather common, from what I understand from others--is to get "on a roll". I find something, it points to something else, then to something else, and so on. At each step in this process, I am downloading PDFs (and opening other items, as well). But I am not reading them, at least not more than a few paragraphs, nor am I breaking my focus to do a bezillion "Save As" commands.

I understand that perhaps I "should". But I don't. And I've been working this way, in various technologies dating back to before the age of PDF, for longer than many here have been living. (Yes, there really WAS a great FLOOD, but don't quote me, I'll categorically deny that I ever said that. :)

So here I am, opening a mountain of PDFs, and my browser crashes. (I realize that modern browsers never do that, but humor me.) Or Windows 7 crashes. (Again, I realize that Windows 7 never crashes, but again, humor me.) Or some email client crashes. (Once again, I realize that a modern email client never crashes, but if I might ask you to stretch your patience, humor me. :) Anyway ... BOOM ... and the system hangs.

Please understand, the PDF editor did absolutely nothing wrong. It just sat there until a bomb exploded overhead. (Is that considered politically incorrect nowadays? I don't care, but I might be curious, in minimalistic sort of way.) Anyway, down goes the PDF editor, and with it a very nice pile of work. Now, I CAN go into a temp folder and find it all, I realize that. I mean, your program had to get the file from somewhere. But it would be really nice to be able to configure the PDF editor to remember any number of files, with the clear understanding that this might cause a performance hit. The point is that for someone like me, the BIG performance hit occurs when the program goes down, not when it's a tad sluggish at times. If I'm willing to take the hit, then why not let me? Put up a warning that says "Danger! Danger Will Robinson! You might take a performance hit! ... OK?"

Well, I hope you enjoyed my story at least half as much as I enjoyed writing it. After all, if I don't entertain myself, then who will? !!! :):)

Leila H. @Joel PDF Studio can convert from Word to PDF not the other way around. This is not the easiest way to do it, but PDF Studio can convert from PDF to a text file that you can then open in your Word processing software to organize and format. Also it is important to note that Word 2013 will open PDF files and convert them to PDF on the fly.

Leila H. @vml Permanent redaction is used to black out and remove sensitive information such as SSN in a document before distributing it. It is a pro feature. The tool chest (look for a tab called "My Comments" on the left side) stores all recent markups so you can use them again without having to recreate them. Users can also save their favorite comments. This is a Standard feature not restricted to Pro.

VLM So the Tool Chest is somewhat like a clipboard cache for markups, does that sound like a reasonable description? Does it retain its memory upon closing and reopening the application?

I have a couple of additional questions, if you don't mind.

1. How many "recent documents" can the application support? I ask because it's quite common to find this limited to 10 documents, which is an absurdly small number for anyone who does serious research online. Honestly, I have never understood the need for any limit at all.

2. If the program or the system (more likely :) crashes, upon reopening the application, does it fully recover the last session?

3. Is there a means for fully recovering the last session, regardless of size, even when the program is properly shut down?

Frankly, I don't know of any PDF application that handles these things well. But I don't know of all PDF applications, so I'm hopeful that yours does better than the rest WRT these matters.

Thank you!

Leila H. Okay, I just stepped away from my family and installed the program. With the holidays, no time to test properly today, but I do have a few quick questions.

1. Will there be tabs in v. 10?

2. The menus are crammed so close together as to be visually almost indistinguishable. Any plans to space these out a bit?

3. VERY few of the menus or the menu items have apparent shortcuts, and I see no underlined letters, as in alt-f, o for file > open. Can this be controlled via the UI? (Again, sorry, no time to look.) We love menus, but only if we can use them via the keyboard. One more program that sends us to the mouse constantly is not in the cards. Honestly, I can't understand why you wouldn't want lots of shortcuts for your won use. :)

Thank you!

Leila H. @vlm so many questions and I just have a few minutes to respond

Recent Files: I believe we are showing about 20 recent files in v9. In v9, we will be showing 200 organized by "This Week", "Last Week", etc...

System Restore: We don't have a system restore at the moment. But when PDF Studio saves, it saved to a temporary file so if there is any issue during the save, the original file is not overwritten.

Conversion: PDF Studio can convert from Word, images and text to PDF, as well as from PDF to images, text but not Word.

Menus: We are adding more shortcuts for version 10 but we are not changing the spacing in the menus.

Tabs: There will be no tabs in version 10. Read this KB entry: http://kbpdfstudio.qoppa.com/?p=2268

I have excel sheet with calculation of prices. They are changed very often of course. After change I have to edit word document and after it export it into pdf. It would be better to export numbers from excel directly into pdf ...and if possible not manually (into some variable fields in pdf or something like that).

Please, could you tell me if Studio 10 could help me?

Or will be better to find this a function in Adobe Acrobat Professional or another tools?

Leila H. Hi Stanislas

PDF Studio can convert Microsoft Word to PDF but it can NOT convert Excel to PDF. PDF Studio also supports importing form fields into an interactive form in XFDF and XDP formats (variants of the well-known XML format) so if you setup a script to export the fields from Excel to XML, that is an option.

It is possible to edit Document Properties within PDF Studio by going under File -> Document Properties. It is not possible to edit Document Properties through Windows Explorer columns. The tool you are talking is a shell tool for Windows. I don't think you will find many PDF software offering this kind of editing through Windows Explorer.

Stardust Hello, is it possible in the PDF Studio to create buttons, which allows you for example to jump onto different page, open web site or create new e-mail to set recipient in your mail client?
And does PDF Studio have function for converting all fonts in the PDF file into the curves? (You have regular PDF with texts and with this function you can change all the texts to the vector objects).
I have not found in the feature list on your website any mention about these two functions, and it wasn't mentioned in the comparison charts either.
Thank you for the info.

Leila H. Antonin - Yes, using PDF Studio Pro, you can add button fields by going to the form editor (under Forms -> Create / Edit Forms). You will need to add a puhs button field and associate an action (look for the actions tab in the properties dialog) to go to another page, open a url, send an email, etc...
PDF Studio does not have an option to convert fonts to curves but it has an option to rasterize a PDF, converting pages to images (under Images -> Rasterize PDF). You can contact us as studiosupportqoppa.com as we my be able to give you other workarounds.

franp User This is a very, very good alternative to Adobe Acrobat. I just baught the pro version (full price :-( ) a month ago It has nearly everything Acrobat Pro has, as perpetual license, for half the price of a yearly Adobe subscription ... It is light on memory, speedy, and the support is excellent (I tested it before buying by asking a couple of technical questions ; got answers in the minutes !). I tested and even baught PDF-XChange a year ago or so but finaly reverted back to Acrobat Pro after a few days, and kept seraching for the ultimate Acrobat killer. I discovered PDF Studio this fall while reseting my computer and this time I just stopped searching and didn't even re-install Acrobat. Quite frankly; it as some minor flaws (such as, for example, the impossibility to optimize a document in memory before first saving it to the disk) but all-in-all this is a VERY, VERY good piece of code ! For me, it is just functionaly, if not bit-to-bit, equivalent to Acrobat pro minus the all-cloud and all-subscription non-senses.

mix624 I use to have problems understanding to what extent it is possible to edit or recreate a pdf document. Is it true that the major changes like layout and images needs to be created with another software first and the only thing I can do with this software is edit a few things like text and so on ?

Because I have been told I need the adobe softwares like adobe indesign or other adobe softwares that would take a long time for me to learn ( I wont). So, only create documents in Word and then transform into pdf and make small edits ??

I always get the impression with those softwares that I can create like drag and drop on an empty canvas objects for each page ? Review or annotate pdf´s are not much of interest to me and edit function I guess is quite limited ??

I mean, Word dont have an open grid that allows me to place images wherever I want and is it also possible to work with extra layers in Word ? Trying to understand if this software is much useful for me or not when I want to create pdf´s.

franp User @ f vn : The main difference with Acrobat X Pro is that PDFStudio is sold on a perpetual licence, while Acrobat X is solely sold on a subscribtion basis, which is quite a difference actually !

As far as I am concernend I would in no way enter the subscribtion way and gradually get rid of all my Acrobat product and replaced them with equivalent softwares.

Regardin Acrobat X Pro I searched and tested several alternatives, and found two of them being the best ones : PDFXChange and PDFStudio. I baught both licences (you can buy both perpetual licences for about a single year of Acrobat X subscription !!!) but I finally adopted PDFStudio as my everyday pdf manipulation software. The reason I set PDFXChange apart is that it doesn't integrate very well with Directory Opus, while PDFStudio works perfectly with it.
Also, I found PDF Studio to be slightly faster than PDFXChange. I still use PDFXchange for some tasks where it works better, and specificaly since there are some nasty bugs in PDFStudio since upgrade from 2012 to 2018 version (duplex prints bug ; scan bugs) that are knwon from the developers but not corrected yet.

To answer more precisly your question, you will find in PDFStudio 2018 about 99 % of the functionalities of Acrobat X Pro. If, like probably 99 % of any Acrobat X Pro users, you don't care about cloud features af Acrobat X Pro, you will be happy with either PDFStudio or PDF X Change. Note that you need the "Pro" edition of both to compare favorably with Acrobat X Pro.

Hope it helps. Do not hesitate to ask me about a specific feature of Acrobat X Pro if you want to be sure it is present in PDF Studio 2018.

Leila H. @bvssunnydale Yes, it is possible to remove blank pages using PDF Studio. See this article on our knowledge base:

https://kbpdfstudio.qoppa.com/?p=6493

For empty scanned pages, because they are not really white, you will need to check the Analyze Page option. There is a tolerance parameter that can be increased to recognize scanned blank pages that might be grayish or have fold lines.

Unfortunately deleting blank pages is the only feature that can not be evaluated in demo version (due to the demo watermark). But you can purchase and ask for a refund if it's not working for your scans.

I assume I should only enter the string when registering the product. Is that correct, or should I enter the entire contents of the box as some unique registration scheme meant to fool thieves?

PDF Studio allows to embed fonts in a PDF in the context of converting to PDF/A. Look under Document -> Preflight -> PDF/A 1b conversion.

Leila H. @Peter R The side by side comparison will not highlight the differences but the overlay comparison will display in different colors elements that are missing (in red) and elements that were added (in green). See some samples here: https://kbpdfstudio.qoppa.com/?p=2881

The overlay comparison feature works very well.

JW Hi! Like Rick User, I purchased my PDF Studio 12 prior to March 2018, and to be honest it's not worked too well.
I've seen the comparison chart between the Standard and Pro versions, but what about a comparison between 12 Pro and 2018 Pro? Especially if it means I have to shell out for another copy

_*_ @Leila H.,

Does this software require an Internet connection to run?
Does it "phone home" to servers ever?
Can it be used completely offline?

Thank you

Leila H. @JW If PDF Studio 12 is not working well for you, I would not recommend purchasing PDF Studio 2018. PDF Studio 2018 works the same under the hood (with improved performance on specific documents), but has a nicer ribbon interface and some new features. It really depends on your actual issues. Contact studiosupport@qoppa.com if there are specific issues that we can help you with.

George Butel I've been using Nuance's PDF Converter since 2003, and am still using their v8 professional from 2012. It does everything I need--OCR, merging, extracting pages, etc.--except for one thing: it still keeps the data on cropped pages. Is my assumption correct that your Pro version has the same ability as Acrobat to delete such data permanently?
I'm also wondering about reinstallations, such as might occur when changing hard drives, or, as I do occasionally, use Macrium Reflect to restore an old image (it's easier to update software than it is to troubleshoot problems these days, and, besides, restoring images eliminates potential malware.) What kind of issues would result from having to reinstall the software on the same machine? With Nuance, if you uninstall and are on the internet, it deactivates the license so that it can be used again.
Are there software install options with your program that would allow you not to integrate it with printing, etc? I might want your program only for the permanent redaction of cropped data, but I don't need it for other purposes, and I wouldn't want any conflicts with the other Nuance programs I have installed (OmniPage and Dragon.)

Gr3gw Just wondering why PDF Studio will only convert to Word 2013 and higher. I have Word 2003, very old I know but it suits me. PDF Studio will only convert to Word if there is a version of Word 2013 or higher present. However, I don't see why there should be that limitation. If PDF Studio writes a file that is Word 2013 compatible then I can convert that (DOCX) to Word 2003.

Joe M George. Have you tried the new Nuance Power PDF 2.0? By the way Nuance Just released a newer 3.0 version. You might be able to get it at a discount since you use Nuance's PDF Converter.

franp User @Ed Ward "@franp User Can you explain what you mean by "PDFStudio works perfectly with Directory Opus?" I use Directory Opus (great program!) but am not why one pdf program would or would not work w/ DOPUS."

Glad to help. Here is some explanation.
Il my workflow, I constantly use one specific feature of my pdf softwares : creation of pdf files from drag-and-dropping thumbnails onto my file explorer (to be more precise, most of my workflow when creating pdf files is to scan in batch, and then drag-and-dropping thumbnials to create individual pdf pages from subsets of the batch scan. Very convenient and speedy, much more scanning subsets one-by-one or even than scanning in batch but than selecting thumbnails and going into submenus to export pages). The drag-and-drop feature is the key to speed in that workflow and I tested many sowtares but only PDFXChange and PDFStudio did that. All other I tested (and in them Nuance Power PDF 2.0 (if I remember well), I don't know about the newest version) did not do that : drag-and-drop thumbnails to create pdf files from pages subsets.
here come the difference : for an unknown reason, PDFXChange can drag-and-drop to thge native WInbdows 10 file explorer or the Windows 10 disktop, but it fails when trying to drang-and-drop to a Diretcory opus folder.
The problem is as simple as that.
I hve alerted the PDFXChange developers on that problem about two years ago, but they have not fixed it yet.

R Master I currently use many different pdf editors, Nitro Pro among them. One of my biggest gripes are the TSR programs that Nitro loads on my system - Nalperion Licensing crap and forced updaters among them. Does PDF Studio Pro use anything like this? What TSR programs are required to run - hopefully none.

George Butel @Joe McCormick: I just spent a while with Nuance's pre-sales order support, and I was informed that they STILL do not have that feature. Do a Google search for "permanently remove cropped data" and you'll find a lot of people wondering how to do so. If it's that sensitive, one could extract a particular page, say, with Photoshop, then edit it, resave it as a pdf, then reinsert it into the document. Alas, that might or might not save properties you might want, such as to be able to select specific text to copy (without re-saving it, via Nuance, as a searchable document.) That's a huge amount of trouble which can be avoided with Acrobat: it's only a couple of clicks to delete hidden data: Tools > Redact > Remove Hidden Information.

Leila H. @George Butel

1) PDF Studio does have a redaction feature that can permanently remove sensitive information from PDF. Look under Document Tab -> Redact

2) When you crop document, PDF Studio adds a crop box around the page, which according to PDF specs only changes the visible area of the page, it does not remove the hidden content. PDF Studio does not have a feature that can automatically remove the cropped content.

3) When you uninstall PDF Studio on one machine, it frees up a reinstallation on another machine. You can also unregister PDF Studio by following the steps in this KB article: https://kbpdfstudio.qoppa.com/?p=5707

Each user license can be used for one user to install on up to 2 computers.

Leila H. @Gr3gw Unlike when we convert from PDF to Word (where we have our own technology), we handle conversion from PDF to Word by integrating with MS Word 2013 and higher/ We simply launch MS Word and pass on the PDF, so MS Word is in effect handling the conversion. This is only possible with Windows 2013 and higher.

George Butel I've used Nuance's product since 2003, and there's only one thing that the version I'm still using (PDF Converter Professional 8) doesn't do that I'd like to do, and that's to redact documents. Some websites will do that for free, but that's not convenient. When I say "redact," I'm referring to edits, such as resizing the pages, deleting text, etc. That material remains in the pdf file, and can be accessed. Adobe Acrobat will do it; the non-monthly version, the 2017 full version, is still available, but that's $448.
Will this program permanently delete such information from a pdf file?

styrobrain @George Butel: I don't really know, but it seems the demo version is non-expiring and fully functional... it actually has an extra bit of functionality: a sticky watermark. So you can easily try for yourself. The optimizer may play a role in removing residual data: http://www.qoppa.com/file...rhsyns=%20

Leila H. @George Butel Yes PDF Studio can permanently redact information from PDF documents. You can add redaction annotations on top of text or images and when you apply or burn the annotations, it will remove the underlying content. PDF Studio can also edit text content in a document, as well as resize pages but these are different functions. Make sure to look at PDF Studio user guide for more info:
https://www.qoppa.com/fil...dio/guide/

Leila H. @George Butel When you use the crop or resize page functions, the content of the page that is not showing is not removed, it is only hidden. It is the definition of cropping, you're setting the crop box margins. You will need to apply large rectangles redaction annotations if you want to remove the hidden content before you resize or crop. We're thinking about adding a function to do that automatically instead of users having to do it by hand for next version, This is a complicated function.

Terry User I've been looking for a PDF editor for months that would serve my needs. Thought I'd tried them all, but must have missed PDF Studio. I constantly create PDF fill-able forms for clients, and for years have used Serif PagePlus for this purpose. It does absolutely everything required for creating these forms, but was discontinued a few years ago. So I've been looking for a current replacement.

I checked the documentation on the PDF Studio website, and saw it did most of the things I need, so I just purchased. Installed and registered, and did a quick test. Works great, and does what I need. Forms with text fields, both list types, date type field with calendar popup (very important), and everything else needed. Multiple types of links. Great page formatting. Etc.

Have tried PDF Elements, Soda PDF, Ashampoo PDF Pro, and a bunch of others, and none had all the features needed until I found today's BDJ deal.

Thanks BDJ and Qoppa...

Read more here about the PDF to Word conversion: https://kbpdfstudio.qoppa...-and-docx/

On the other end, PDF Studio can convert from Word and Excel to PDF.
