What are people saying about Perfect Image Professional 12

Stefan Hauber Probably I am wrong, but the 'best scenario: NEW COMPUTER!' would be the reason I would buy your software at once, even if it was the only feature it would have...

... if this would mean I could transfer my whole harddisk running perfectly on my old laptop to a new-bought harddisk on my new computer (another model of course) and could expect it would boot on this, ends up in a correctly running system and I can run all my old programs without having to reinstall them (except perhaps these, which check explicitely for a unique hardware-id as software-protection).

Indeed, this all reinstalling my old software is a main-reason, I currently use my old laptop as long as it is possible...

So, does this feature means something like this (and not 'just' a 1:1 harddisk or partition-copy)? Any hint how to create such a modified harddisk-copy, which is about to run on another system would be appreciated mostly. Perhaps there is a standard-configuration of windows which would run on all computers (like e.g. having no display-driver installed, which would result in a minimal resolution and no optimization, but can be used) and using this a base, driver by driver can be than installed from within this minimal-version of windows to increase the performance...

Thanks a lot...

Stefan Hauber Yet something else:

Is there something like a ColdBackup, a feature Ghost is advertising with? This means to be able to make a backup from a system without having to install anything on it's harddisk? The idea is (for me), to backup the harddisk of a new-bought computer, so whenever restoring the backup it is in it original never-used state...

DrTeeth Above says the s/w does incremental backups and the site says differential backups. They are different and I MUCH prefer the latter. Could you please clarity which this software does?

Tnx.

Norbert Snodgrass Most publishers reply very quickly. I'm rapidly going off the idea of buying this as Avanquest seemingly cannot be bothered to be here.

Avanquest Software Guy,

The software is updated with a major update annually. Minor updates (included with purchase) are at the discretion of the product manager and usually released on an as-needed basis. I am looking into your other question on the difference between an "incremental" and "differential" backup. I've forwarded your question to our product manager and will post the reply as soon as I hear back.

Avanquest Software Guy,

The Differential backup applies to the image back up; whereas the Incremental backup applies to files and folders:

Differential Backup:

Perfect Image allows creating backup images only with changes performed since initial system backup, thus reducing the size of the further backup images. Differential backup along with a built-in scheduler delivers to you a completely automatic disk backup solution.

Incremental File Backup:

Incremental backup can be applied on the File & Folder backup, or on Drive & Partition backup, as Complement File backup to an image

Please let me know if you still have questions on this.

Thanks.

Ash Goyal Last year I used Acronis product to capture a true image of the hard drive on old computer and then re-install the image on an identical model PC. This worked fine for 3 months and then HP automated software noticed that service tag of machine is different than the codes one from previous system and then the system failed to boot up. Dead...Period. Asking me to call Hp with a config error.

Cant believe that HP had service tag signature built somewhere which caused the problem later (after I installed many more programs). Finally I gave up and moved everything to a laptop and returned HP's machine within the 90 day purchase window. An important lesson learnt and what a time wasted.

Any software is probably good for THAT hardware ONLY i.e. you want to upgrade to a bigger harddrive on the same computer then perhaps, a non issue but moving it to even identical hardware of another PC could cause havoc like in my case).

Paul C I was interested in trying out your trial software version on 64-bit Windows 7 HP desktop system after receiving the download I launched the software and was immediately notified that the software does not run on this operating system. Is there a trial version I could download somewhere? Does the full program work on my platform as indicated in the article?
