Rick R Ulrich,

Will the Plugin Version be compatible with an older program such as "Corel PaintShop Pro X"?

Also - how soon do you expect to release the PhotoMizer Plugin deal here at Bits du Jour?

Danke Ulrich

Ralph Bressler Ulrich, but to "cross upgrade" I need to, of course, buy the stanadrd version of the program first. So, without the discount today on BDJ, it would cost me $65 (40+25) to get the pro version. With the discount, it will cost me $40 (15 + 25). That is a a 38% savings which is NOT as attractive as 63%! I have several other programs that is use that do about the same thing yours does. I guess I will have to pass on this for today! Will you be offering the pro version at a similar discount as the one today in the future on BDJ?

Software Guy Photomizer is a great idea to quickly improve photos. At $15 it is a bargain. They are still on version 1 for all earlier buyers. The price was traditionally $30, but they recently raised the base to $40, discounted here to $15 as in theiir earlier promos.
Englemann introduced a toned down version ffor a giveaway promo called simlply good pictures. The update they decided to call Photomizer Pro and adds denoise and some other features with another price increase to $50. An upgrade costs $25 US but adds licenses for 3 computers.
As the price creeps up they begin to get into competition with photoperfect express with perfectly clear plus batch (free+$50+$15) which in my opinion yields slightly better results.
Also, keep in mind that more editing programs are adding 1 touch optimization - what do they do - they bump color saturation, sharpness and contrast while adjusting brightness to make it all look good. As a side note, a nifty little program called phototoolbox allowed you to play with these settings and save a history of the manipulations for future use - many higher end programs can do this also. Phototoolbox was offered earlier on BDJ and had a great feature missing from most low cost editors - adjustable gaussian blur - necessary for editing scanned magazine or printed images (you know what I am referring to if you ever tried it).
Also, photoperfect basic is still available at a 20% discount now on BDJ. PhotoPerfect Express is free but the filters cost additional.
So, is this a good deal - yes. Should you upgrade for $25 to pro?? IMHO probably not unless you need denoise filters. If you have a good camera noise doesn't become a problem until the light gets low. So, if you have a large collection of noisy photos is it worth it to upgrade to pro - probably. But if you don't then it is probably not worth it- stick with this deal.
A few words on cameras and noise - point and shoots have small sensors, and they tend to yield noisy photos in low light. The pro cameras and DSLRs have big sensors that work well in low light. there are a few point and shoots with large sensors - the canon s95 and the new nikon p300 yield spectacular results in low light. next step up are the Canon G12 or the pricey GX1 or the Nikon p7000 (or the panasonic LX5) which are still pocketable. then there are the DSLRs - and there is not much difference in a S95 photo vs most DSLRs, which I consider amazing. Check them out if you want great photos from a pocket camera.
Hope this helps because the choices can be confusing.

Roger Thomasson Hi folks, sometimes a vendor can't promote a particular license type on BDJ because of reseller agreements, component licensing fees, and a variety of other reasons.

Trust me, we've absolutely noted the substantial interest in Photomizer Pro, but at this time the publisher is simply not in the position to promote it. At this time I'd like to ask that you all hold off with the "+1's" to keep this page free for questions related to the standard or plugin version.

Thanks for understanding!

John H I appreciate Software Guys extensive review.
I have played with this and compared to some other programs. The images I am testing it with are time exposures taken in a forest and a fireplace with only the fire for light.

I can't believe I would say this but would eliminate the need to do numerous exposures for HDR.

It is much faster than the other programs and the colors seem more realistic and pleasing.

Am comparing it to Imagic by Stoik software and Photo Tool Box, recently purchased from BDJ.

Photomizer seems to get everything right on the first click. The optimization controls are simple, one slider. No need to try balancing several different sliders. I can waste time agonizing over all those settings.

My BIG question: Photomizer seems to remove a little noise and is less grainy compared to my other programs. Is the BDJ trial download Photomiser and not the pro version?

Finally, when is Videomizer going to be offered on BDJ, I have some underwater videos I need to spruce up.

Louis H I purchased Photomizer not too long ago and then upgraded to Photomizer Pro. I am happy with doing so. What I do wonder about, however, is the 160$ they are asking for the Photoshop plugin. Maybe I am losing touch, but as best as I can tell with the trial version of the plugin it offers far less control of the options than either Photomizer or Photomizer Pro. This is why i chose to not take advantage of a similar discount offered to me when I first purchased Photomizer. I have purchased other plugins that do far more for a lot less. Personally I think the discount for the plugin should be the MSRP. Anyone else given the plugin a trail run and find it worth 160$?

Tazzie Photomizer is a nifty program and it's been fun to test it out. However, I may have run into a bug or something. I can maximize the program but the bottom buttons of the program do not show up. In addition, if I try to minimize it, The bottom still does not show up. Regardless of the window size, I am unable to manually resize the window ... I can adjust the width just a bit, but cannot adjust it vertically or as a whole using the corner resizing arrows.

I've got many programs installed, yet I've never experienced this type of problem. Does anyone have any idea if this is a Photomizer bug or something else? I'm running it on Win7 64bit, with plenty of memory and on an SSD drive.

Thank you for answering me soon,

3) if there is and upgrade from 2 to Pro

Engelmann Software @Brian: Since we are Adobe partner, we have access to the Lightroom SDK and we are working on it already with a low priority. So I am sorry, I can’t tell you a release date. We probably need some more months for it.

@Michael Guilfoyle: The “Pro” version is a combination of Photomizer 2 and Photomizer Retro. The Photomizer Plugin for Photoshop offers the functionality of Photomizer 2 directly in Photoshop and compatible products.

@Karl M.: Photomizer 2 includes the functionality of Photomizer Scan and has even more functions.

Engelmann Software @ Ralph Bressler:

In which time zone are you living? :)

1) The differences between Photomizer 2 and Photomizer Pro: We developed also several filter to “age” pictures. Do you know e.g. the filters from Hipstamatic? Something like this… These filters are integrated in our Photomizer Retro. Photomizer 2 plus Photomizer Retro is Photomizer Pro.

2) if there will be a discount for Pro: Not sure yet.

3) If there is and upgrade from 2 to Pro: yes, we will run a promotion in a few days.

Preston Mitchell Photomizer Pro is the Way to Go!
And PS for Ulrich Engelmann

I tried Photomizer versions 2 & Pro. I bought the Pro version. Version 2 was a tease...with its fewer features.

Photomizer is sort of like the Poor Man's alternative to onOne Perfect Photo Suite. A lot of easy-to-apply special effects & filters for photos. While Perfect Photo has more functions, Photomizer costs a lot less, especially for today's discount.

Photomizer is a very worthy addition to your photo editing toolbox.

PS: Ulrich -- Please offer Videomizer as your next promotion. I have been waiting months for a deal on Videomizer. :-)

Louis H Wanted to put in a good word for Engelmann Media.

Picked up Photomizer Pro a while back at a great special discount as an upgrade from Photomizer and have not regretted it.

Engelmann Media is a company you want to have send you emails as they are always coming up with some fantastic offers and discounts on various products as well as upgrades.

Picked up Videomizer 2 last March, as a result of an email promotion, for $25.

Really do wish the Photoshop plugin was included in Pro - or at least a lot cheaper. It has been offered at great discounts over the past year, but I could not justify the amount they were asking, for the use , in Photoshop, that I would get from it. So I use the stand alone Pro version and then take my photos into Photoshop - or whichever other editor I am using.

Very satisfied with both Photomizer Pro and Videomizer 2.

Ian Bull As a Photomizer 2 owner & user I have received the promotion email for Pro. I visited the Engelmann website to find out what Pro can give me that 2 does not and find nothing to help me. So I have exactly the same questions as Ralph Bessler!
If the only difference is the 'Retro' then I have no interest - Ulrich Engelmann's response to Ralph seems to be saying this.
On the other hand Preston Mitchel seems to be seeing more features in Pro.
So I am now very confused!
Engelmann website really needs to spell out the differences clearly!!
It won't take much to convince me but I do need something!

Petr You should extend the deal for another day. Most of us do not read our emails on Sunday, especially our work email addresses.

I will wait for your software to go on sale again. Please notify me when it is available for the 50% discount. Thank you.

Rick F thanks Ulrich, I tried both sources to no avail. It may be an issue with my VPNs security. I'll reboot and try again without the VPN running. Thanks again. rick

Richard Andersen May I ask why the PS plugin cost 4 times as much as the standalone program? It''s basically the same program, isn't it?

Tino downloaded trial for windows 10 and hangs up on trying to load photo, not too impressed at this point. I suppose this should be directed at the software company, but hoping there might be some easy answer first.

Also, is this for Premium version?

Tim Parsons Nice, reasonably well presented and easy to use, but I hoped for better from the noise reduction facilities -- which really is the core of any alleged photo improvement software. Noise reduction should be accompanied with an appropriate degree of sharpening or all that happens is a loss of fine detail, surely? And although it might be possible to achieve better with a lot of fine-tuning, the whole point of Photomizer is lots of automation and smart decision-making on the user's behalf, I'd have thought? It's okay, but not ground-breaking -- and certainly not worth the undiscounted price.
