What are people saying about PhotoTangler Collage Maker

Ricky Rick How many pictures can be added to a project at one time? And can the pics be "Individually" re-sized after they are dragged onto the canvas?

Kurt User Ricky, there's no limit to the number of pictures you can add (beyond what your computer's hardware can reasonably handle), and indeed the individual pictures can be moved, re-sized, rotated, etc once they've been added to the canvas.

Christian User I test the trial version...
It is an excellent concept, but why doesn't the element text accept the accentuated characters?

Roger User Does Photo Tangler support creating a horizontal composition. All the examples appear to be vertical or square. Thank you for your reply.

Kurt User Christian, unfortunately PhotoTangler does not currently support characters beyond the standard English alphabet / numbers. This is something I may explore for a future version.

Kurt User Roger, if I understand your question correctly, yes horizontal compositions can be created. The user can specify the dimensions of the "canvas", and then add pictures to it. So for example, you could create a canvas that's much wider than it is tall. The scrollbars on the canvas allow you to navigate up/down around the working area when it's larger than the display window.

Gerard User I just bought the software. It's a very nice and handy collage maker. I have one question: Is it possible to zoom out the preview window to view the whole image?
Thank you!

Christian User I bought the software because its concept is interesting and... to encourage the developer.... but this software must evolve quickly..
I am a French user and it is indispensable to be able to use the characters accentuated of the text part.
Some elements are also to improve quickly as the zoom on the screen of visualization and elevators for the fast choice of the numeric data....

Hawkeye I just purchased the software. In preparing the final image, the 3 pictures used, came out as expected.

I also included text and that part has definite issues. I had moved the text and resized it. I guess because of moving it causes problems. The original text is red in color and is 18 characters long including 3 spaces and is in the correct area, except 3 random characters has a shadow effect. Also, there are remnants of part of the text to the above and the left and is a different color, black. Also below the correct text, there are 8 of the 18 characters that show in black as well.

I'm satisfied so far with the way the images look. I'm going to find another way to add text until a fix can be done.

Using Windows 7 Pro, SP1, x64, US and fully updated through May, 15.

Thanks,

denis morrow I just purchased this software as it is a bargain at under $10. I find it easy to use with some control over the inserted images. It also allows changing the size of the canvas at any time during making up the collage. Output is in PNG format at virtually any size you want beyond the usual A4 restrictions.

I would like to suggest a few improvements.
Allow inserted PNG images that have transparent sections to remain transparent and not come out as black. This would allow users to insert any cutout photos, fancy text characters and logos onto the final canvas.
Allow zooming feature on main canvas to enable user to see the whole canvas and also see up close sections of the canvas.

Bert Green How do I register this software? The program either directs me to a web page which does not exist, or uses a dialogue box asking to "enter the registration number below" but does not display where.

Using Windows 7 Pro, SP1, x64, UK and fully updated through May, 17.

Kurt User Anne, I'm not exactly sure what you mean, but that's not so much what this program is designed for. You could try the free trial version to see if it does what you'd like however.

Bert, I've e-mailed you about a workaround which hopefully resolves the issue.

Regarding the next update and fixes, we do not have a firm date at this time, but I've been collecting feedback for a while as it trickles in, and would love to have a (large) update out later this year, perhaps this summer.

Thank you for the continued feedback, we're definitely taking notes for improvement...

Hawkeye The more you use it, the more you will appreciate it. There a few things that needs correcting. It's kind of hard to move something when it gets below another object. The text came out ok on this one.

Anyhow, here is a quick sample I put together, if you're a Mustang fan. Enjoy.

Ricky Rick @ Kurt User

Bought PhotoTangler Collage Maker V1.0 yesterday. Only messed around with it for a few minutes and made a very nice family collage with only 6 pictures. Printed it out on my color printer and my girlfriend loved it!

A REALLY NICE program!!! I like it VERY MUCH. You have a great product so far - but - (those darn buts!) it could use a few improvements.

My suggestions for a future update:

1). Be able to Paste in pics from the clipboard.

2). Be able to Copy the Collage to the Clipboard to paste into another program instead of having to save every collage before bringing them into another program (i.e. into PhotoShop - Paintshop Pro - Photoshop Elements - etc).

3). In the "Properties" area I'd like to see "Sliders" for certain properties along with the current option of having to type in a property.

4). More export options besides .jpg and .png (although .png is my favorite)

Note: all images I imported into my first project were all .jpgs - when I exported the collage it DID NOT give me the choice of what I wanted to save as. It just showed "Save File Type As" and it showed .jpg and .png. The program does not allow you to pick one or the other - so - I was surprised when I exported my .jpg images collage and after exporting the file it was a .png to my surprise.

Those 4 suggestions are all I can think of right now but hope you will consider them in an update. And I for one wouldn't mind paying for UPGRADES from one major version to another major version.

Thanks Kurt for a VERY NICE program.

Jon User Ok, tested the demo version. It works well and does a good job at the intended task. However since the demo doesn't allow one to export the image can you please advise what output file formats can be used?. Likewise what can it use for inputting source images? I would like to hear that it supports an uncompressed format, i.e. TIFF. If not would you be willing to add that in a future version?

Thanks
Jon

Kurt User Jon, thanks for the feedback. The full application can export PNG or JPG, which is specified by the file name in the Export dialog. As far as importing images, the demo version is the same as the full version (PNG/JPG/BMP/TGA(uncompressed)), so if it doesn't load in the free version, it won't load in the full version either. We have no plans at the moment to add additional formats like TIFF, but I could take a look into the potential demand for that in a future release.

D Rogers I am trying out the trial. This is a fun and easy to use program. If I wanted to do a collage that would print out to something big like 18 x 24 inches, can I do that by a size setting or canvas size setting to optimize my poster?
Dec 8 2015 at 2:46am Copy Link

Kurt User D Rogers, you would use the canvas size setting to configure the desired resolution and aspect ratio of the final image. For a large print image you'd probably want to make it much larger than the default starting setting (which is based on your desktop resolution.) Please note that it's best to set canvas size options at the beginning of a new project, as there's currently not an option to have the images in the project automatically resize/reposition if you change the canvas size later. That's a feature that's been requested a fair bit recently, though a future release date has not been determined yet.

Jon User Thanks for the reply Kurt. I purchased this today with the great discount you've offered. One further question - How do you adjust the display of the image panel so that the entire collage is visible without having to scroll the window sideways, i.e.how do I zoom in and out to see the full image all at once?

Susie Kelly Jon User - I was wondering the same thing, and the only way I found is to close the side panels to see the whole image.

Nice piece of software - just about to purchase. :)

Susie Kelly It is great! So super-easy to use and blends images perfectly. Thank you.

If I could suggest one function for future consideration, it would be an option to preview the finished collage without having to close the side panels.

Jon User Does Solid Eight Studios have an answer to my question about a full-image zoom capability?
Dec 9 2015 at 6:27am Copy Link

Kurt User Sorry for the delay. There is not a way to do a full-image zoom or pan at the moment, only the scrollbars can be used to navigate the view. That's another popular feature request, but it does not exist in the available version.

Kurt User JPR85470, I'm sorry to hear about the error-- nobody else has reported that problem. I'm not sure what could be causing it, but my first suggestion would be to make sure you have the latest graphics drivers on your system (for example updating through the Device Manager in Control Panel.) I'll follow up with you via e-mail to see if we can figure out more, in case it's related to your specific system.

Joyce Dias After I install I am unable to open it. I get the following messages : "Unable to initialize OpenGL rendering" and then "OPENgl 3.0 or later is not supported by the OpenGL driver" - What do I do to correct this please?
Jul 8 2016 at 5:51pm Copy Link

Kurt User @Joyce Dias, PhotoTangler 2 requires OpenGL 3.0 or later, which has been available on most computers for the past 8 years or so. If you have an older computer, or one that can't support that standard, unfortunately the program will not work. The more likely case however is that you just need to update your graphics drivers. To do that, on most Windows systems, you can try the following steps:

1) Go to Start Menu, then open the Control Panel.
2) In the search box at the top right, type "Device Manager" Click on that.
3) Expand / double-click "Display adapters" (or some equivalent in the list)
4) Right-click on your display adapter, and select "Update Driver Software."

If you need additional help with this, we can provide more specific support via e-mail. I hope this helps!

Joyce Dias Thank you Kurt, looks like my desktop drivers do not support OpenGL 3.0. I will try it on my laptop and if it still does not work, will cancel and ask for a refund.
