Polar Backup Hello all, and apologize for not posting comments here.

Kindly note that we not part of Zoolz. However, we are a strategic partner of them. We have been in business for 5+ years now, and our Cloud storage utilizes state-of-the-art AWS technology to provide the highest quality reliable and consistent Cloud storage.

The plan here is only for one computer, so you cannot install the Polarbackup desktop software on more than one computer. However, you can upgrade your subscription later to enable this feature.

Polarbackup stores up to ten versions of each file, giving you the option to restore an older version when needed.

The only way to upload to our service is by using the Polarbackup desktop software, which is available for Windows and macOS platforms. However, once the data is backed up, you can access it anywhere by signing into your Polarbackup account from the website (https://www.polarbackup.com/).

Jerry Neal Will Polar Backup allow the storage of system images of a computer? Also, what is the probability that Polar Backup is a fly-by-night enterprise and will not exist a long time? What happens if a computer is formatted or reimaged or a new computer is bought?

Ken User Can you upload files and download them whenever you want without limitation?
I was using zoolz but because I am not actively sharing or downloading my files they moved them to cold storage which prevented me from downloading my files automatically, they would send a link to my email but by the time I received the links they had already expired and sometimes I would not even receive the links.
I just need storage for my music files and I need to be able to download them whenever I choose regardless of how often I am using my storage.

Polar Backup @Ken User, Kindly note that the Polarbackup plan offered here is Basic with Cold Storage. The Basic plans has a 4 GB file size limitation, meaning that you cannot upload the file if its size is larger than 4 GB. And since the storage type is Cold, restoring/downloading from the Cloud will not be instant. You need to wait for 3-12 hours for your requested data to be ready for restoration.

You can unlock those limitations by upgrading your plan later from the Upgrade page of your Polarbackup account.

Ken User If the regular price of the basic plan costs almost a grand, I hate to see what the premium plan cost, thanks for the quick reply though but I guess I will continue to use multiple large hard drives to store my files.

Laura User I have thousands of family pics and now I am relieved since I had a hard drive failure and almost lost all of my family pictures.

Polar Backup @Linton User, Polarbackup is not designed for system disaster recovery purposes. While you can use Polarbackup to backup everything on the system drive (C:\), this will not be helpful if your system is broken due to some disastrous situation.

Noggin The Nog What about versioning? And is the encryption carried out on the user's machine before the files are transmitted, or on the storage server?

Polar Backup @Noggin The Nog, please find the answers below:

"What about versioning?"

Since Polarbackup backs up your data incrementally, once any of your selected files get modified locally on your drive(s), Polarbackup desktop software will back it up again for you, adding a new version of this file in the Cloud. The latest 10 versions will always be saved for you so you can restore any of them when needed.

"And is the encryption carried out on the user's machine before the files are transmitted, or on the storage server?"

Your files undergo 3 levels of encryption; 256-AES machine-level encryption, transferred via secure sockets layer (SSL) and stored on encrypted 256-AES Server Side encryption.

Noggin The Nog By machine-level, do you mean that it is encrypted locally before it is transmitted over the internet and independently of the SSL encryption? In other words, are the files encrypted when you receive them, and do you have any means of decrypting them? Does the user set his own password? And if they are locally encrypted, why do you encrypt again server side?

Polar Backup @Noggin The Nog, yes, the files will be encrypted before leaving your machine and then transferred via secure sockets layer (SSL).

While configuring your backup after installing the Polarbackup desktop software, you will find a "Security Options" section where you can specify the encryption level you want to apply once the files reach the servers. You can either "Use Polarbackup internal encryption password" which means that the files will automatically be decrypted once they reached our 256-AES encrypted servers, or "Use your own password" which means that the files will stay encrypted by this password and there is no way to decrypt them without providing the correct password from your side.

L. D. User Hi,

Can you please let me know whether or not, if I purchase 'numerous' copies of the 5TB plan (maybe six to ten of the 5TB backup plans)... is it possible for them to be combined into a couple, or even several LARGER capacity (10TB ~ 20TB) backup storage plans instead?

Being able to do this would be 'extremely' useful to me, to GENUINELY put it mildly!

Drew.

Noggin The Nog Does the encryption take place before the data is sent to the cloud, if so, is the key therefor kept only on the user's computer, and is there any versioning?

Kenneth Bates I have joined other so-called "lifetime" storage plans and found that they stop working after 3-5 years - or start imposing an annual charge.

What guarantee do we have that this one is any different?

Sorry to be so negative, but once burned - twice shy, third time - stupid?

Greg I purchased 5 TB of online backup from Polar Backup, Order #111403376, on 1/1/2020. I have not received any confirmation or information as to how to set up and use this service, and I emailed Polar Backup twice and I have received no response from them. I received a notification of payment received from 2checkout. I eventually received a refund from PayPal after filing a complaint and PayPal had received no response from them either.

Constantin Florea @Greg User, I've just contacted the vendor regarding the issue you mention. The vendor is in contact with us very often and I am sure he will reply as soon as possible. I am just not sure if they will reply in the next 2 days (because of the week-end).
