Robert Bull Please, do you have a mosaic filter, like Roman mosaics, where the tesserae follow the colours and lines of the image?
Aug 26 2010 at 9:09am Copy Link

John Stevenson No, currently PostworkShop does not have any filters creating a Roman mosaic as you describe it, but it is an interesting idea, we may add it to the next release.

bsr007 PostworkShop Pro looks like a great program. In order to trial PostworkShop Pro it looks like we have to download and install the Demo version of the program. If we decide to purchase PostworkShop Pro do we need to uninstall the Demo version and install the Pro version with an associated license key? I would be grateful if you could confirm this. Thanks for your help.

Louis H Someone from Xycod can correct me if I am wrong, but I am working with the demo and each time I load it up it offers me three options...

1) enter a serial number to convert the program to the full version
2) get a free serial to convert it to the Basic version
3) keep on in demo mode for further evaluation

So it certainly appears that all I will need to do after I get a serial is to enter it and the program will convert to the full version.

I have already made the decision to pick this one up, simply waiting for the discount to go into effect on Monday.

I will say that I find 99$ for the full Pro version to be perhaps a bit too high, but would readily pay $69 for the full Pro version and so even at $49 I consider this a good deal for what I have been able to do with the demo. I have a couple of other programs that do similar type photo manipulation and look forward to adding this program into that tool box.

bsr007 Hi Louis H, Many thanks for addressing my question and giving your opinion of the program. I will download and intall the demo. Thanks again for your help.

John Stevenson Louis H is right, there is only one executable file. It can work as a Demo, Basic, Artist or Pro version, according to the serial number that you enter in the dialog box when you start the program. You don't need to install it again.

If you find that the Pro edition costs too much, you can also consider the Artist edition at $49 and with this promotion you will only pay 50% of that price. The Artist edition is not listed on this page, but it is available for purchase when you click the Buy Now button.

Louis H By the way, if anyone is still looking for where you can compare the differences between the Artist and Pro versions, you can find them by clicking on the "buy now" button at the products webpage...

I do have a question for someone at Xycod...

According to some postings in your Forum you make mention of a new public release slated for September of this year. Will that be a free minor upgrade, or will it be considered a major upgrade?

Thank you

John Stevenson Louis H, the next release will be a free minor update, but with major new features!  Regards, Bela Biro Xycod Ltd.

Louis H Thank you, Bela

The more I explore this program, the more I like it. It's a lot of fun and exactly the kind of image manipulation software I am always on the lookout for.

John Stevenson Louis, the discount is active, but the first page in the web store shows the items that you wish to buy at full price.  Click the Checkout button and the 50% discount coupon will be automatically applied before the system would ask for your personal and payment details. I hope this also works for you. Regards, Bela Biro Xycod Ltd.

Stefan Hauber I was just looking at your product and find it quite impressing, what is possible nowadays...

But when I was checking the feature-list of your different versions I was a little irritated to find out, that the size of the output is restricted in all versions. Even in the highest version (Pro), it is restricted to '4000'. (I'm not sure, but I think it means 4000 pixels at maximum horizontally and 4000 pixels at maximum vertically!?)

So, why this limitiation? I suppose today's 12MP cameras might be a little under this limit, but I'm sure some do go beyond this and tomorrows cameras will definitively.

So, when I have a larger picture, what to do? Split it by myself into smaller parts? But will they, when pasted, look like one picture in the splitted lines?

~~~~~
Also I am wondering, if it is possible to apply the styles only to certain parts of the pictures. My favorite would be to let the software automatically recognize faces/persons and apply the styles only to these regions (or the regions outside).
~~~~~

I've seen, it is possible to load some styles from outside. Is there a (documented) way to develop an own style (in a standard programming language) and get it imported in PostworkShop Pro?

Thanks a lot...

John Stevenson Stefan, we limited the render size because with the huge images that are produced by recent cameras AND with really complex styles the 32 bit version of the program (the currently available PostworkShop 1.1 is 32 bit) could easily run out of physical memory and calculate the final render "forever". The free 1.2 update, that arrives in a couple of months will have a rewritten render engine and also a 64 bit version. We will remove the 4000x4000 pixel restriction in the Pro edition. I do not recommend splitting the large images, because you will have ugly seams as e.g. brush strokes won't fit together. You can apply the effects only to certain parts of the image by using alpha masks. These can be created in PostworkShop with e.g. luminance/chrominance key filters or constructed from geometric forms. Painting mask in PWS is currently not possible (it will be later), but you can use imported masks, that you painted in your image editing program. Or you can simply layer the original and the PostworkShop version in an image editor and create the layer mask interactively. PostworkShop styles are created in the PostworkShop Style Editor. It is a node based filter graph editor. You can see an example if you scroll down to the bottom on the www.postworkshop.net home page, or you can find more detailed descriptions in the tutorials. We have plans to make style creation possible for programmers too, but it won't be available in the next update. If you are really interested and you have a project, contact me directly and we will find a way to insert your code into a beta build. Best regards, Bela Biro Xycod Ltd.

Louis H Bela,

It is just such willingness to go the extra mile with your customers that has changed my mind about my earlier comment about pricing. Such customer support is worth far more than 99$ now-a-days. Your willingness to address individual customers needs is impressive and gives me assurance that no matter what problems might arise, or how needs might change, you and your company are committed to find solutions - rather than expect your customers to simply accept what you think they need. (I mention that as there have been other offers for other apps here where the programmers responded to folks questions and requests with a completley different approach.)

Thank you for making your product available here at a VERY nice discount. I look forward to future updates and upgrades.

John Stevenson Hello H.H. As the email that you received after your purchase explains, if you have an activated PostworkShop Basic you must first deactivate that Basic serial number. You can do it in the Help menu. When you restart the program you will see the original window where you will be able to enter your Pro serial. Best regards, Bela Biro Xycod Ltd.

Pete Tinsley Tried the demo and the basic edition. I'm now considering buying the artists edition....if I purchase the Artists serial number, will I need internet access to activate the product? I do not have internet access in my windows machine. Thanks. Pete

John Stevenson Hi Pete,

if you enter your serial number on a machine without internet connection the program will propose alternative activation methods. Using the web activation you can get an activation code on another (connected) machine.

TED SKAARUP Is the version for sale on BitsDuJour the Basic, Artist, or Pro edition? Will it qualify for the Version 2 update that's supposed to come out in 2011?

John Stevenson It is the Artist Edition, just have a look on the price. (I hope the text speaking about Pro will be fixed by BitsDuJour soon)

Yes, it qualifies for the free 2.0 update, your serial acquired here will work as a 2.0 Artist serial.

Pete Tinsley Thanks for the advice. Bought the software, registered no problem - it's fantastic! Easy purchasing and registering process from start to finish. Highly recommend the Artist edition, very easy and fun with loads of useful filters to use but more importantly produces very good results for any style of artwork! Not even started to play with the style mixer yet! Very impressed.
