anthonyraynor? On their website you can now buy PowerArchiver 2010 Pro with the Outlook addin and the command line interface.  It is going for 25% off or about $29 U.S. dollars if you need the extra functionality.  I am trying to decide which way to go myself?

Drazen Dodig If you want to get the Pro version, best deal would be to get Bits du Jour discount, and then you will be able to get upgrade to Pro version at $12.58, at any time in next few months at least. Once you purchase via this discount, you will be able to login to your account and get the upgrade to Pro at those prices (again, for at least next few months). Afterall, we are discussing Bits du Jour offer, so it is only fair for it to be the best ;-).

Mike G Well, even though we can't get 57% off Pro, 35.54% ($22.53 for Standard with Bits discount plus Pro upgrade) is still a great bargain. I wish it were possible to test Virtual Drive during the eval. Looks like a quality product overall. I'll just have to take a chance. I see PowerArchiver can extract RAR that's good. Any future plans for PowerArchiver to function as a front end to create RAR archives for those who have a WinRAR license? I can imagine WinRAR licensing might restrict that, but it sure would be nice.
Jun 13 2010 at 9:02am Copy Link
0
Drazen Dodig We cant create rars, because it is proprietary format (we are forbidden to do so by licensing),  however we did optimize our unrar engine and it is up to 30% faster than WinRar's.

Brad Isaac from persistedunlimited.com As a user of both WinRar and Power Archiver Pro - thought I'd share my thoughts.  Only weakness: Rar is standard around my work, so I needed the ability to create rars.  If there was only a way for Power Archiver to get a license for RAR creation there would be no need for me to have both.  I understand that may not be possible.   But if it was an option, I'd be Power Archiver all the way. Pros: With that said Power Archiver has many strong features above and beyond WinRar.  The most powerful IMHO is the ability to create and mount virtual CDs and DVDs.  If you've ever wanted to have fast access to several CDs for installing or playing games, you can create a virtual copy of the CDs and run them fast from a hard drive.  High level encryption.  Pick which encryption standard you like and the bits and you're off. Nice modern interface.  Easy to use. Fix broken archives - I've had a lot of luck using PA for repairing those archives I couldn't open. Creates standard zip files - one overlooked feature of many zipping programs is they create zips, but standard windows or Mac users can't open them because they alter the standard zip file.  I don't have this problem with PA. Just my .02

Mike G Nice review Brad. I'm sure we're not alone in wishing/hoping RARLAB would license it's engine for creating RAR archives in Power Archiver Pro. Are there really tens of millions of users as it says in the product description? If only a fraction of them upgrade to Pro, it could be a huge new revenue stream for RARLAB. I plan to get PA 2010 standard here and upgrade to Pro anyway though, partly for the virtual CD/DVD feature which is preferable to unsupported freeware solutions. For anyone wondering, chat support just confirmed the license is per user, not per machine. So if you're the exclusive user on multiple machines you're covered by a single license. With the direction some companies are going these days, I really appreciate that and want to commend/support ConeXware for it's policy.

Gray Lox Hi ConeXware, Inc., thanks for this bargain.

Though this is one of the fine free deals here, I have a question or two:

1. You announce PowerArchiver 2010 Standard with the retail price of $ 22.95.
On your website there is only PowerArchiver 2011 for $ 22.95, nowhere 2010.
Is this a typo on BDJ or an older version?

2. Your policy says:
"upgrades...free for the lifetime of the product." on BDJ for 2010
"Free lifetime upgrades..." on your website for 2011
http://www.powerarchiver.com/order/

Please explain. Will I get free lifetime upgrades for this BDJ version? That would please us users, but would be a bad deal for the dev - LOL

Thank you.

Eric Johnson I just also wanted to chime in on the anti virus in toolbox, I would imagine its there to make the deal more attractive, but I was also but off by it.. I went to the site for all the other great things not some antivirus. I personally think its bad marketing idea and scares people away.. LOVE everything else about PowerArchiver, will definitely be recommending it to friends.

Drazen Dodig Eric, in 2012 release there will be option to get it without AV. Keep in mind AV is completely separate install in any case.

It is very hard to explain something with limited space available on the page.

Eric Johnson If the antivirus is complete separate install then that is great.. I may look at getting the toolbox then when I get some extra money. I just know when I was researching this deal the other day it scared me off seeing the antivirus with it.

PowerArchiver toolbox looks amazing, wish I found it sooner/had money right now lol.. would replace several other programs I use and combine their features into one great program.

Thanks for the free deal , kicking winrar to the curbside :)

Randy Niven Overall, I'm impressed. I thought just another archive utility but then I tested it against several other utilities, both free and paid, and was impressed with the speed of PowerArchiver. It definitely utilizes all cores and is 80%-300% faster than other utilities. Good job.

Any plans for a x64 version and will we receive an update offer when you release the 2012 version? TIA
May 31 2012 at 8:02am Copy Link

Drazen Dodig Chris - this is Multilingual/International release... so it will work with it (you get special installer for this Promo)
ConeXware, Inc - May 31 2012 at 8:12am Copy Link

Drazen Dodig Thanks Randy - we optimized PA heavily, and do it constantly. It is faster than WR for extracting RAR files too, between 10%-30%, depending on what WR version, file, etc.

For x64 - this one has parts of itself in 64bit, full 64bit probably not because while it might increase compression speed by 5%, it will decrease extract speed by up to 8%. So maybe ultimate solution would be compressing in 64bit and extracting in 32bit? :-). We might be crazy enough to do it!

DiggerP @ Drazen Dodig,
This is just a question to confirm the license policy for this free version.
If this version is installed on my computer and the computer totally fails after a month or few months and I have to buy a new computer, will the license still be valid if I re-install this version of PowerArchiver?
Or is this considered a transfer and therefor not allowed?
If so, the license would be almost worthless and amount to nothing more than a trial version.

As for the software itself ,I have nothing but praise for it and am using the 2009 version at the moment.
It's just that so--called "footprint licensing" can be extremely unfair
to the end user.
Just wonder if you could clarify.

Mili - ConexWare Peter,

We hope that you took advantage of this BDJ deal because your license is always valid. Our licenses are on a per user basis, meaning they belong to you and you can register it again in an unfortunate case of a failed computer or a fortunate case of simply getting a new one and getting rid of an old one. Your license will be valid.

Also, if you're a purchasing user of PA 2009, you probably have a free upgrade to the latest version. You can always email us or use the support form on our page and we'll let you know how.

Hope that helps!

DiggerP Hi Mili,
Thanks for your clarification.
Sorry for delayed response ,but as "luck" would have it ,my router failed - do you think my thoughts were a premonition? haha
Anyway ,yes ,I did take advantage of this BDJ deal and just in time
I might add :)
As you might guess ,I had some bad experiences with "footprint" licensing ,like very limited re-installs ,no transfer to new computer, whether because of failure or just upgrading.
BTW ,that wasn't even with free software as in eg promotions by BDJ and others, but also with paid software.

All this is done under the guise of preventing piracy ,but it is often
an unconscionable way to increase revenue.

Sorry for the rant ,but as you explained ,it doesn't apply to your software and licensing.
To close , thanks again to ConeXware and BDJ for this excellent promotion of PowerArchiver 2011 Std.

Petronius Arbiter II I already have 7-Zip installed on this computer and for the most part am very happy with it, my only gripe being that if you have an archive with many files and folders, 7-Zip may take a very long time to extract only one or a few.

My question about this PA2015 is, if I install it on this same computer, will it automatically replace 7-Zip as the default compressed files handler, without my having any say in the matter? That would be a deal-breaker for me. Or if it interferes with 7-Zip and its Windows shell integration in any way. I only want this program if it coexists with 7-Zip peacefully.
Nov 13 2015 at 12:14pm Copy Link
0
Mili - ConexWare Hi Petronius,

Its the nature of the 7zip format. It stores information in blocks so it needs to extract the whole archive sometimes in order to extract just one file. Also in PowerArchiver, you may create non-solid(not in blocks) 7z archives which will then extract single files from 7z archives much faster.
Give it a try if you have a moment :)
