What are people saying about PowerDesk Pro 7

adrian williams I've been using Powerdesk from v5 to 6. It's a must-have program. You'll never use explorer again. It has many useful features like preview, which can preview many file formats from images to media, nfo files, pdfs etc. It has bulit in ftp transfer, file finder, synchroniser. Options are usually one or two clicks away. Most frequently used actions are on the F keys like F2 = rename, F3 = search, F9 = view file.
Dual pane viewing makes drag and drop so easy.
I've said all that and this week there are two explorer programs ! I'm looking at Fileboss v2 to see what that has to offer.
Powerdesk appears to be a much more 'all-in-one' piece of software I think (at this early stage of my testing).

Miguel Caamano Mmmm... I went and clicked the link for the purchase.
The discount was inmediatly applied.
Correctly introduced my personal details in shop.avanquest.com/USA.
Tried with debit card... "Your finnancial institution denies the charge"
-or something like that-
Tried with credit card... Idem...
Tried again... Idem...
So, I closed browser and deleted cookies, etc.
Opened the browser again and went to my finnancial institution online.
Yes! There was the charge!
Well... not efectivly done but retained for 15 days.
Called the finnancial institution: they did not deny any charge absolutelly.
And, yes, the retained amount was done by Avanquest-USA.
I called Avanquest-Spain. Very nice support. They can access the database in USA,
but can't do anything about it. Said to me an error have happened. Nothing else.
"Just keep waiting 15 days till the liberation of the retained amount.
Possibly you wont be charged. If such thing occurs send the bill to Avanquest-Spain.
We'll then try to resolve this issue."
I've purchased quite some products from Avanquest-Spain with no problems at all.
It's my first time with Avanquest-USA. Mmmm...

Software Guy Love the software and use version 6.
Question - what is the single user license agreement for this software - one computer, home plus laptop or home-laptop-work computer? THANKS!

Vicki Baker I LOVE Power Desk and recently upgraded from 6 to 7. It was hard to improve over PD6 but one new feature is it includes Hex Editor. It works on Vista and has stopped crashing as it sometimes did in PD 6. It isn't new but I like the split screen ability and filtered views, plus Layout Manager, which saves specific view settings. With Power Desk, you can eliminate other programs because it can change folder colors, sync folders, zip and unzip, encrypt, and FTP. I can barely function on my computer without this software. Also, I like Avanquest. We had a need to upgrade 5 computers and called the company, and they worked out a discounted price for us. You will never use Windows Explorer again.

Fran Harter Does anyone know what benefit (features wise) that there would be to migrating to PD7?

Is it just a matter of version 7 being "Vista ready" ?

I have multiple licenses for version 6.
I had received several emails from v-com/ananquest the past couple years at which time they offered powerdesk6 for 75% off
[promo code POWER995] Meaning the total price was just $9.95USD per license
[don't bother trying that code;as it has long ago expired]

I am satisfied with PD6 and I use both it and/or Novatix Easydesk
[I read that the same "base code" was licensed at one time to both v-com and novatix]

I haven't moved to vista yet, so in that regard; there isn't a big hurry to upgrade.

I read somewhere online that PD7now includes a hex editor.

Besides vista ready, and a hex editor, is there any worthwhile features?
Like maybe, it runs faster?
Or uses less PC resources?

Thanks in advance.
Any insight is appreciated.

adrian williams I'd stick with version 6 if I were you Fran. Feature wise, its pretty much the same.
Version 6 locks up on Vista sometimes and the process has to be terminated manually. You'd see no major benefit with v7 on XP. (unless someone can tell me otherwise). Hope this helps.
For anyone who's considering purcashing it for the 1st time - go for it, it's a brilliant software package. File finder, size manager, dual pane view, quick preview view of files rather than having to open them. It is very good.

Avanquest Software Regarding the question - what is the single user license agreement for this software - one computer, home plus laptop or home-laptop-work computer?

A single user license can be installed on one computer.

SOFTWARE GUY This is nice software - I have used v4 through 6 for years. However, i have swithched to XYplorer. The reasons are many, but i will give you 2 big ones - one license allows installation on 5 computers. Yep - 5 computers for just a tad more than this. Next, it is portable - meaning you can install it on a USB drive and carry it around with your files. Now that is truly convenient. It is time for avanquest to take a step forward.

If you work with graphics, the file manager to get is AC browser plus from konradp.com

ience. And that is what an explorer replacement should be about - about the same price

Stephen Cohen I use Power Desk and yes, it is useful. Unfortunately, since Avanquest purchased it, along with System Suite, customer support has VANISHED, even when you are trying to BUY one of their products. Send them an email & you'll get NO reply. For companies like this, I have adopted the policy,

"You no reply, I no buy."

Jonathan Rasmussen I actually have an older version of this program and would have considered returning to it in an updated version, but since there was no trial download offered, I didn't buy it. Too bad. There's several excellent free utilities in this category.

Charles User All these raves conflict with my experience. As a file manager, the product works great. Unfortunately, when I installed it, I answered yes to having PowerDesk replace Windows Explorer. After installation, it took over everything. When I try to access the Control Panel, I get PowerDesk. When I click the network button, I get PowerDesk. When I try to change the option in PowerDesk, it says I have to log on as Administrator which is close to impossible in Windows Vista. Anyone solve this problem?
Thanks.
