Rory Briggs I'm interested but before proceeding could the developer please tell us whether this is one of those products that installs into a predetermined folder without providing the user with any choice in the matter of selecting the destination folder, etc.? Thanks.

Ela S. 1. You must install/register the software within 2 days, and cannot do so afterwards.

2. Program cannot be installed (Office 2007 is installed):

Rory Briggs Read this: That's exactly my point. All my (many) other Microsoft Office add-ons permit me to install there wherever I choose. (And this doesn't in any way affect their integration with the relevant Office application.)

Louis H I wrote a lengthier comment, but had forgotten to log in. When I did log in, it was gone. Oh well.... The rest of you have been spared by my mistake. ;-)

Short Version...

The above ad copy is incorrect. Please see the comparison list at the vendor's site for what you can and cannot do with the Basic version being given away for free today.

http://www.printablecal.com/Purchase

What would have been nice is if the other versions had been offered with a nice discount as well. For this program to be of value for me I would need to have access to the features that are only available in the Premium and Ultimate Versions ($50 and $100, respectfully.) For those prices, however, I would want a stand alone version that could integrate with non-Microsoft products and Office alternatives.

Dan Chartrand @Louis H: There is a $20 USD discount on upgrading to the Premium and Ultimate versions. To get the discount, click the "Upgrade" button on the PrintableCal tab of the Office ribbon after registering the Basic version.

@Ely S: I haven't seen that error before, but you might be able to fix it by reinstalling the VSTO 4.0 Runtime. Make sure to reboot after doing this. The runtime can be downloaded here:
http://go.microsoft.com/f...kId=158918

@Rory Briggs: PrintableCal was developed as a VSTO add-in. Microsoft Office will look for VSTO add-ins under the AppData folder. Unfortunately, I'm not aware of any way to override where Office looks for VSTO add-ins.

@ro gard: My website is http://www.printablecal.com. It's linked from the "Website" button provided above.

@steve collins: I'm pretty sure PrintableCal needs the regular version of Office 2007 or later, not the Starter version. The Starter version is missing a lot of things, including support for VSTO add-ins.

Calvin Smith @steve collins. From the Docs, it appears the answer would be "no". You need Office 2007 or newer. @ro gard Look at the top of the page under the PRICE, you'll see a link labeled "website". It will take you to their site.

Colin McAllister I get a huge error message and install fails every time.

Last line reads "The system cannot find the file specified, (c:\program Files (x86)\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\VSTO\10.0\VSTOInstaller.exe.Config line 10"

Any thought on how to resolve this please?

Jym Ferril On your website I am unable to find any explanation of the differences between Trial, Premium & Ultimate versions of the program. Where can I find the features of each, or can you tell me what functions are lost in the free version after 15 days?
Thanks,

Dan Chartrand @Colin McAllister: Please make sure you have the VSTO 4.0 Runtime installer. The installer is supposed to detect if this prerequisite is missing, but maybe that isn't happening for some reason in your case. You can download the VSTO 4.0 Runtime using the link below:
http://go.microsoft.com/f...kId=158918

@Jym Ferril: A table showing the differences between the versions can be found on the page linked below. You might need to scroll down a little to get to the table. http://www.printablecal.com/Purchase

Also FYI, there's a $20 discount on upgrading to the better versions after the Basic version has been activated. Click the "Upgrade" button to get the discount.

User1 I use Kingsoft Office. PrintableCal Basic installed, somewhere, but I don't know where. And I guess it cannot be accessed from Kingsoft (?)

I'm not interested in installing MS Office just for a nice calendar applet. :(

Dan Chartrand @steve collins: The Office Starter edition doesn't support add-ins, so PrintableCal wouldn't work. You'd need the paid version of Office 2007 or later.

Can't quite make out what they mean on that page, I do have ,Net 4 installed..

Do I have to shove in Office disk and try to " select the Microsoft Visual Studio 2010 Tools for Office Runtime (x86 and x64) option in the Prerequisites dialog box" as a sort of repair?
Please advise. Thank you.

Disco79 Hi.

Now I have installed this add to MS Excel 2010 and it works very well. Now a question. Installation must be done within two days. Now, if this is done and you need to reinstall later on his PC with Windows and Office, can I reinstall the free version again?

regards
Michael

User1 Thanks Dan. I assume it will work with MS Office 365?
Good news is MS has a free signup for selected schools w/ valid student ID / email address. I'm downloading Office now. :)

(Will I have to re-install printableCal, or will MS Office 365 find it? )

Dan Chartrand @Michael: The free deal is for today only, with a couple days grace for people that are late activating their license. If you miss the deal, you could always purchase a license or wait for the next free promotion.

@User1: I think the answer depends on which version of Office 365 you install. I'm pretty sure add-ins require the Pro Plus version or better.

Thank you for your feedback.

I have already installed the software, but I usually quite often reinstall my computer. Can I then reinstall the "Today's Deal" again, if I do for example within three months?

Colin McAllister I'm still having no joy starting the installer. I downloaded Microsoft VSTO as instructed, shut down overnight, restarted this morning and I get a new error alert:

From: http://www.printablecal.c...leCal.vsto

at Microsoft.VisualStudio.Tools.Applications.Deployment.ClickOnceAddInDeploymentManager.InstallAddIn()

I am connected, because I'm writing this online right now and other pages are loading as usual. Any final thoughts on how to install this program please?

User1 Dan, thanks for everything. I got it installed with Office 365 Plus version ... I'll populate it with some test data and try it out. There is an error window when starting Word, but that's probably a Word install issue.
Looking forward to purchasing the next iteration.

Dan Chartrand @Colin: Are you behind a proxy server? If so, please check to make sure the correct proxy server information is entered in the Internet Explorer settings (even if you don't use IE). If that doesn't fix it, please check your firewall settings or try temporarily disabling your firewall to see if that helps.

Ela S. Thanks Dan,

For your help, but installation still does not work. There was a similiar problem described in your website forum:

I followed it: Repair of Office 2007, deinstallation of Visual Studio Tools for Office Runtime and deletion of C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\VSTO.

Following your link, downloaded and installed VSTO 4.0 Runtime. Error remains:

bei Microsoft.VisualStudio.Tools.Applications.Deployment.MetadataStore.UpdateLastCheckedTime(String subscriptionIDParameter, String subscriptionIDValue, DateTime newLastCheckedTime)
bei Microsoft.VisualStudio.Tools.Applications.Deployment.ClickOnceAddInDeploymentManager.InstallAddIn()

I am afraid running out of time of your 2-days-promotion installation period, but really keen to run your promising program.

Thanks again & regards

Dan Chartrand @Ely S: After searching far and wide, I think the steps below might fix the problem you're seeing. ClickOnce is wonderful when it works correctly, but a real pain when things go wrong.

1. Uninstall PrintableCal from Add/Remove Programs.

2. Run regedit as admin. Clean VSTA installed solutions cache (delete HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\VSTA\Solutions)

3. Clean ClickOnce cache (i.e. run "C:\Program Files\Microsoft SDKs\Windows\v7.0A\bin\NETFX 4.0 Tools\mage.exe" -cc)

4. Delete VSTO's solutions metadata store (delete HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\VSTO\SolutionMetadata)

Ela S. Hallo Dan,

Thanks again for your advice. I'm on Win 7 64-bit.

PrintableCal hasn't been installed at all due to the problem described.

In regedit, there is no HCU...VSTA/Solutions (nor VSTO...), no file (rsp binder) Microsoft SDKS...mage.exe. Only VSTO/SolutionMetadata is existing.

VLM I downloaded and installed this Office add-on, it works perfectly. However, I am about to reinstall my OS in a few weeks, so I will not use the calendar, because I will not be able to reinstall it at that time. The vendor might consider making case by case exceptions, in response to private inquiries from users. Just a suggestion.
