Matt Software that stops working after 36 months???

I can understand a subscription service for an anti-virus or malware product or for storing your data on someone's server. But for a folder/file locking program?

Maybe I'm missing something, but this is a pretty greedy idea!

John H Am always looking for a more elegant solution than the popular Open Source solution. I would seriously consider giving this a try but a 36 month license is a major FAIL!

Cybertron Software What happens after the license expires?

You will not able to create new encrypted volume and existing encrypted volumes will be mounted as read-only mode.

P.S. In this case, you may consider to purchase a lifetime license.

Michael R. Can PD create a drive with a small size and extend it dynamically?
I suppose this is what TrueCrypt can't do in the current version...

Any (other) advantages comparing to TC, which I am currently using?

Is there a free read-only version of PD? Only this way it would be possible to send a PD-file to a person which didn't buy PD...

Brian H Hi- this product looks very innovative! Questions: can the "virtually-created" private drives be accessed on home networks? Also, is there any downgrading of access speed of recalling data on one if the virtually protected/crested drives? IOW, will I notice a slowness in speed accessing data from one of these drives? Thanks! -Brian

J S I'll have 3 questions:

I'll ask you question #1 based on what you said last Friday:

Quote:
"Cybertron Software 3 Years License - Use the product for three years and renew if you're satisfied.

Lifetime License - Use the product forever and enjoy free lifetime updates and upgrades.
Cybertron Software Co., Ltd. Vendor - Friday at 2:29am" end of quote

The Policy Details box says Quote "Support is provided for 36 months after purchase". end quote.

Question #1: If you buy a Lifetime License does the program come with UNLiMiTED support?

--------------------

Policy Details box says:

"Privacy Drive is licensed per user, ..."

"Email license activation is required with a hardware footprint, and 1 installation per footprint."

Question #2: Could you please explain PER USER Activation and Hardware Footprint?

To my mind Per USER means multiple, but "1 installation per footprint" is the eaxct opposite of Per USER.

For example: If somebody owned lets say 5 or 6 computers that they'd normally buy a Family License to cover the installs on all 5 computers, how would they legally cover the installation of the program onto all 5 or 6 computers.

Does it mean that the License has to be transferred from one PC to another depending on which one is being used at the time?

--------------------

In the Product description above it says " ...Once you eject a Privacy Drive virtual disk, ..."

Question #3. So this cannot be used on the main operating system partition/volume, but could be installed and used on all other partitions/volumes and drives and memory devices?

VLM One of the great strengths of TrueCrypt is its ability to create plausible deniability in various ways. What does PD offer in this regard?

Another of the great strengths of TrueCrypt is its ability to encrypt the system disk, and to create a system disk within a system disk. PD?

Matt Cybertron Software hasn't answered a question since Friday!

If the developer can't stick around and answer a few Pre-Purchase questions on Sale day, what good will his support be after the sale?

I still can't understand the 'practically dead' after 36 month deal.

A 3-year limit on full access to your data is absurd!
Sep 9 2012 at 2:51pm Copy Link

Ralph Bressler @j. Bell - I have made this point before on other offers where serious questions have been raised and the developer did not answer BDJ assures us that this is no reflection on the company or their support. It may involve a time zone problem or a weekend. If the developer cannot arrange to be here when we need questions asked, I do not see how they can expect us to take them seriously. This isn't a "paint" program but involves data access!
Sep 9 2012 at 5:02pm Copy Link

Matt Hi Ralph. I agree completely. The developer can't be taking his business or his potential customers very seriously. Thanks to VLM, I'll now be checking out TrueCrypt.

I guess looking at the positive in all of this is that it allows us to share the titles of good alternative software.

2. Simple, user-friendly interface and easy-to-use.

Cybertron Software To Brian H:

1. Yes, you can. The virtual disk look like usual local disk, and any software or operating system utility will work with the virtual disk in the usual way. As an example of this feature, the virtual disk can be shared on a network in the same way as other local drives.

2. No. All algorithms are optimized and blazing fast! Privacy Drive processes data on-the-fly meaning data only gets decrypted when it is accessed. Other file encryption software encrypts or decrypts the entire file before you can use it. Privacy Drive does this automatically in the background and only to the data that you access, saving valuable time and system resources.

The encryption engine of Privacy Drive operates at system kernel level between the operation system and the virtual disk, providing user-transparent, on-the-fly disk encryption and decryption. Every read operation on the virtual disk causes decryption of the data to be read to RAM memory, and every write operation causes encryption of data to be written to disk. All data are automatically encrypted or decrypted right before they are saved or loaded, without any user intervention. This "On-the-Fly" encryption technology is called Transparent Encryption.

If you have a valid single-copy license, you have the right to use a single "Licensed Copy" of Privacy Drive; if you or your organization has a valid multi-user license, then you or your organization have/has the right to use up to a number of "Licensed Copies" of Privacy Drive equal to the number of copies issued by Cybertron Software Co., Ltd.

Each Licensed Copy of Privacy Drive may either be used by a single person who uses the software personally on one or more computers, or installed on a single workstation used nonsimultaneously by multiple people, but not both. This is not a concurrent use license. If You install Privacy Drive onto a multi-user platform, server or network, each and every individual user of Privacy Drive must be licensed separately or included by a multi-user or site license.

3: You can install & use Privacy Drive on any partition/volume, and you can backup, move or copy your encrypted volumes to external hard drives, USB drives, Firewire drives, memory sticks, CD/DVD or any other portable storage device.

Yes, the default password is pre-filled in edit box and cannot be changed in trial version.

If you are using the trial version of the software, do not use important data until you are comfortable with its operation and have registered for the full version. It is not recommended that you use an unregistered copy of the software to protect confidential information and data.

J S Thanks for Your reply, but streuth I really didn't understand Your replies to my 1st and 2nd questions at all.

I didn't see a reply regarding my support question at all.

So again: Question #1. If a person buys a Lifetime License are they entitled to a LiFETiME of SUPPORT, OR, only 36 months (as stipulated in the POLiCY DETAiLs box)?

Seems to be a simple enough question - I would have thought.

--------------------
Now onto the next matter of concern, which historically is one of the biggest issues of concern to the vast majority of Bitsdujour Followers, that of '' ACTiVATiON '' & '' HARDWARE FOOTPRiNT's ''.

Now, so that you do mention multiple users etc as you did in your first reply: I am a PRiVATE (non commercial) User who just happens to own a number of PC's for simplicity sake (as it is easier to do different things on different computers rather than try to do everything on 1 computer).

The POLiCY DETAiLS box says: ''Each license allows installation on all owned computers, but Privacy Drive may not be used at exactly the same time on each of them.''

That is easy to understand (and I see no reason WHY I would want to use it AT THE SAME TiME on 2 or more computers anyway).

BUT I feel that the next item then requires further explanation or clarification because the way I read it there seems to be a conflict between "installation onto all computers" AND a "hardware footprint of 1 installation per footprint"....

POLiCY DETAiLS box goes on to stipulate: ''Email license activation is required with a hardware footprint, and 1 installation per footprint.''

I would SiMPLY like the HARDWARE FOOTPRiNT explained in language that an even idiot can understand.

I'll put my question too You in a more simple manner:

Lets say - for reasons of example, that I own 5 computers, therefore

Questions #2: Can I install Privacy Drive onto all 5 of those computers with the 1(one) purchased LiFETiME LiCENSE - just so long as I DO NOT USE THE PROGRAM ON MORE THAN 1(one) COMPUTER AT A TiME?

--------------------

Question #3: If I have a harddrive or component failure which happens to alter the hardware footprint, (or I remove the software because I decide to sell the computer) can You RESET the hardware footprint, so it can be installed onto a new computer?

--------------------

I look forward to Your answer(s), which hopefully, You'll be able to answer before the promotion expires.

I really like the idea of the program and I do want to purchase a LiFETiME LiCENSE and possibly install the program on one or two of my PC's.

However, AS YOU HAVE A "NO RETURN POLiCY" I have to be certain of what I am buying because if I'm not satisfied with the program I cant get a refund, and my money would have been wasted.

John H I installed Privacy Drive and played around with it this evening. PD has a much nicer and easier to understand interface than True Crypt.

I would have purchased the lifetime license if it had a true Single user license. I have 3 computers in use and can not afford the three licenses let alone the footprint hassle every time I wipe my hard drive and reload the OS. Would even consider it at the special offer pricing now on BDJ

I purchased and have been using Kruptos encryption program for simple encryption jobs and installed it on all my computers. The price and licensing were right!
