Ricky Rick WARNING!!! (capital words used as emphasis - not shouting)

As a loooooong time user of Acronis True Image Home which IS an EXCELLENT program -- stay clear of the 2015 Version BECAUSE they REMOVED one of the MOST IMPORTANT features which is TRY & DECIDE.

I upgraded to the 2015 Version yesterday and after installation I found out TRY & DECIDE was removed. I called Cleverbridge - Acronis's merchant provider and got a refund.

I'm sticking with Acronis True Image Home 2014. I have used Acronis going back to Version 9.

Also - they seem to think the 2015 interface is more attractive and EASIER(?) to use? No thanks! Didn't like it at all.

When I called Cleverbridge for a refund the guy I talked to said they had MANY similar calls to mine who wanted a refund because they removed the TRY & DECIDE feature.

Buy Acronis 2015 only if you are willing to give up TRY & DECIDE. NOTE: I did not buy the 2015 Upgrade via BDJ.

Pim Joosten Try & decide is not the only feature that has been removed. Click on the link to the Acronis forum in my post dated November 7, 2014, and you can see that there are at least 16 (!) features that have been removed. Apart from that there is a new user interface which many people have issues with (a.o sorting options removed) (also see the Acronis True Image 2015 forum).

My advice is: make an informed decision if you consider purchasing this software. I have fortunately not upgraded and for me version 2014 will probably the last that I bought. I will be using it until I no longer can't. In the mean time I am testing alternatives (like Paragon).

If you look carefully at True Image's history you can see that the push to release a new version every September (and generate new revenue) is more important than solving known issues (many people complain about this).

Ricky Rick @ Pim Joosten. Yes - you are right. There were at least 16 other features removed besides Try & Decide. I should have mentioned that in my other post - but for "me" TRY & DECIDE was one of the most important features.

Like you, Pim, I will no longer upgrade in the future either - even if they bring back Try & Decide.

I do not like the new 2015 interface whatsoever and in their next upgrade (2016 I imagine it will be called) they will no doubt change the interface again and cause more confusion by making it EASIER than the previous verion - LOL!

TAPTRONIC Is it still possible to purchase v2014? I am still back at v2012 and if I need to upgrade, based on these reviews and other things I've read on the forum, I'll just move to a different vendor/product then. Unless I can get 2014.......

Pim Joosten You could try buying a physical version somewhere (Amazon, ...). I think version 2014 is still available as a physical product in several stores.

Fretting Thanks Ricky Rick. I'll stick with my 2014 version which I liked less than the prior and so on. I too, have been trialing Paragon as an alternative. I don't like their interface either, though.

BTW anyone that feels this way can leave feedback to Acronis. I did just that and told them reducing features was NOT an upgrade.

Gerald Attrick I've tried this backup software several times during the past five years or so, as well as three or four other brands. In the interest of brevity, I have only one suggestion to offer. Give MACRIUM REFLECT a try. It's the best of breed, IMO, and has Acronis beat by a country mile. But judge for yourselves. HTH.

Ricky Rick @Fretting. You're welcome. Like you, I also liked "previous" versions better than V2014 but that's as far as I'll go with Acronis. I will be on the lookout for other such programs. And I did in fact send Acronis 2 seperate messages about how they butchered Acronis 2015. That was more than a few days ago and they never got back to me and I'm sure they never will. They don't care.

@Gerald Attrick. Thanks for mentioning Macrium Reflect. I checked it out real quick at their site but didn't see anything mentioned in the features for Macrium Reflect about a "Try & Decide" type feature that Acronis 2014 and before (not in Acronis 2015) offers.

I like to try out a LOT of different software and having the Try & Decide feature Acronis has in older versions can't be beat. Just click Try & Decide and install whatever software you want. If it causes problems with your OS or if you just don't like it - you just click on "Disgard Changes with Reboot" and your OS is back to where it was before installing the trial software - and it is a matter of a minute or less - instead of having to go thru a full recovery of a backup which can take an hour or more all depending on how big the backup image is.

Pim Joosten @Ricky Rick: for Try & decide I personally think AX64 is a better alternative. Just look here: http://www.bitsdujour.com...r-software.

@NC Buyer: These links lead to options to purchase True Image 2014 (!) via BDJ:
http://www.bitsdujour.com...r-software leads strangely enough to True Image 2014 upgrade.
http://www.bitsdujour.com...r-software leads to a full True Image 2014.

Both versions are the regular version, not premium. In case of the upgrade you have to click buy to see the upgrade. The BDJ description is different from what actually is behind the buy button.

Ricky Rick @Pim Joosten. Thanks. You refreshed my memory. AX64 sounded familar so I looked in my email folders under "Software" where I keep all my software purchase emails and see I purchased AX64 on June 28, 2013. About 1.5 years ago.

Hmmm. For some reason I must not have liked it too much otherwise it would have stayed on my OS. Perhaps I need to do a trial of their latest version seeing how it's going on 2 years ago that I bought it originally. Maybe what I didn't like back then is ok now. I will have to check it out again in the near future.

Gerald Attrick @Ricky Rick

I, too, try out a lot of software, none of which has had a "Try & Decide" feature (and now, it would seem, neither does Acronis.) In any case, T&D is a fair description of what I invariably do in actual practice. If I have any serious doubts about the outcome of a test, I take the precaution of asking Windows (v7 Pro) to create a restore point ahead of time. If that recovery happened to fail (it never has,) I could always resort to an image backup created by Reflect. Yeah, this may take more than an hour but, WTH, what choice do I have? As a slight aside, my main desktop computer blew its internal hard drive about six months ago. One of those Reflect image backups got me up and running about 90 minutes after I plugged in the repaired computer. I'd guess Reflect image backups have saved my bacon a half-dozen times during the past three or four years... when Windows and Company decided it was time to start throwing BSODs at me. Ironically, one of these mishaps occurred recently when a 20-item Windows Update failed.

Reflect also does File & Folder backups, of course. But my favorite feature is its Data Management facilities wherein you establish backup retention specs. For a particular backup, you could, for example, instruct Reflect to retain three copies (before or after considering the new backup.) It's basically a "set it and forget it" thing. It will automatically delete any older copies along with any incremental or differential backups pertaining to the relevant full backup. If ever a backup fails, you can have Reflect send you an e-mail explaining what and why. If you like, you can also have Reflect tell you when the relevant backup succeeds. It also has things like built-in data encryption and lots of device support.

You can try the software free of charge for 30 days. The Pro version costs less than the discounted price of Acronis. Uninstalling this software, should you choose to do so, will not screw up your computer. If you doubt this claim, make a restore point ahead of time.

HTH, FWIW

Sputnik Through the years I have bought 3 different versions of Acronis True Image and I have verified, as some others, that the older versions of True Image are almost always better than the new ones. In my case, the best version I have is the 2007's version, the oldest I have.

Today I dont use True Image anymore, I work with AOMEI Backupper : I have been lucky enough to buy the PRO version with lifetime upgrades at a very special low price. I dont have any regret for having dropped down True Image : I never had any problems with AOMEI.

Concerning Try & Decide, I think that Acronis should do with it a separate software from True Image : I think that many people would buy it this way.

There is a software that is doing the same thing as Try & Decide : its name is "Shadow Defender". It is a very good software, but at the present moment it is not able, as Try & Decide is, to reenter in a "shadow" mode after a reboot. So, you would not be able to test a software which needs a reboot to be correctly installed.

But there is a very simple way to test softwares without the risk of damaging your operating system and also it is absolutly free : you just have to create a second operating system which will only serve as a testing system. Create a new partition on your drive, on which you just have to restore a recent image of your actual system and with the help of "EasyBCD" which is a free software, you will be able to create a boot menu which will allow you to choose the system you want to boot in when you are booting.

Harry Stadman Try and Decide as a stand-alone feature in Acronis True Image was originally designed to help a user test a new system configuration, and "decide" to go back to a previous configuration if something went wrong. Acronis True Image 2015 is inherently a "try and decide" product, as performing a full system image backup prior to installing and testing any new software allows you to "decide" to go back to your previous configuration. With our completely re-engineered user experience and user interface, this process is similar to previous versions, and can be performed either from a local backup or one stored in the Acronis cloud. As such, the older try and decide feature was removed in Acronis True Image 2015 as its no longer needed.

Ricky Rick @ Harry Stadman

Totally and Absolutely disagree that "Try & Decide" is no longer needed.

What you're saying is that with ATI 2015 you can just go back to a previous image. Sure. But that can take up to 1 hour or more depending on how big the image is and how powerful the PC is.

With "Try & Decide" it is a quick and simple reboot of the PC which takes about a minute and you're back in business.

I've tried out thousnds (!) of programs and didn't like 99% of them. If I had to go back to a former FULL image of my Operating System each time I wanted to try out a new program it would have taken me THOUSANDS of hours ...

... whereas ... with "Try & Decide" it took me Thousands of minutes which added up to maybe 30 to 40 hours of my time - not 2,000 or 3,000 hours!

Yes sir - "Try & Decide" is an absolute MUST have.

I have already bought 5 more Acronis True Image Home 2014 (2 premium and 3 basic) from Amazon for when the license on the current version runs out - i.e. I build another OS or need to reformatt and re-install Acronis 2014.

As long as ATIH 2014 will work with Windows 10 and beyond - I'm safe for quite a few years.

As someone else mentioned in an earlier post it would be nice if Acronis came out with a program with the specific purpose of ONLY the "Try & Decide" feature.

Removing "Try & Decide" was a HUGE mistake.

Note: all CAPS in any of my posts is always meant as emphasis - not shouting.
