Jon Spain The fine print says a PC plus a laptop? How is the license transferred, please?

Dec 5 2015 at 11:17am Copy Link

Mats Thell Hi, same question as Jon Spain, is one computer license valid to two computers? (eg. My Lenovo laptop and Surface Pro 3, or Homebuild workstation).

Second question:
I'm looking for a application to create portable virtual storage container which are encrypted and also is not allocating more than it needs. (Grows in size depending on amount of files). Qiling disk master can do this when I tested out the demo.

But I was not able to place a storage file on usb drive and open it up on other computer. Is there a portable "viewer" /opener for this or does the other computer also needs to have Qiling disk master installed ?? (I hope not).
If this is not possible today, can it be in the near future ?

JW It's a great program, but back in Dec 2015 you agreed to allow the one license to be valid on both a person's PC and a personal laptop. Is that "allowance" still valid?

Is it possible to re-install the program on a PC that has been subjected to a new installation of Windows - which may have been caused either by a crash, some ransomware, a new Motherboard or an HDD failure?

And can you still transfer the license from one (original) PC to a new PC purchased later (if the user informs you)?

wts I commend QILING for giving their Chengdu address under "Company" on their website.

Many Chinese companies with offerings on BDJ try to hide their identity by not giving any address, or by giving the address of a sales office in the US or Canada (as do some Russian companies). Email addresses are always generic (support

company.com) so never hint at country of origin.

Even in the current political environment in the US, I hope that the product of a small Chinese company is evaluated on its merits and not on the nationality of the company. BTW most of the US Fortune 500 companies have offices in Chengdu.

So, to encourage other Chinese companies whose products are offered on BDJ to be straightforward and proud about their origins, I'll buy this offering even though my backup, etc. needs are currently met with other products.

Mike B From "The Fine Print":

----------------------------
- Each license allows installation on 1 computer.
- Transfer of a license to another owned computer is not allowed.
- Online license activation is required with a hardware footprint, and unlimited installations per footprint.
----------------------------

From the company's "Purchase FAQ" (https://www.idiskhome.com..._buy.shtml):

----------------------------
Q: Can I remove the single license utility from one machine and then use it on another?
A: No. The single license means that you can only install the utility on exactly the one machine it is ever firstly installed.
----------------------------

So you cannot install the program on another computer, even if the first computer is no longer in service. This kind of licensing is unacceptable for most any software, but for backup software it is ridiculous.

When trying to recover from a disaster, the last thing you want to have to deal with is activation headaches.

May 30 2020 at 10:18am Copy Link

Tim Parsons This is good software. I particularly like the ability to mount a backup as a drive, but its partition management abilities are also very good.

But the licencing is problematic. You can't backup to one machine and restore to another without owning a second licence OR getting the licence removed from the first machine and reissued by the company.

This means that the phrase "lifetime licence" is not your lifetime, it's the lifetime of the PC it's installed on or the lifetime of the company, whichever is the longer (although it might just be the lifetime of the company if the software phones home to validate itself regardless of previous activation status.

But it IS good software. SO I'm going to bite down on my other reservations and buy another licence; the backup software it will replace on my desktop PC is nothing like as capable.

So, if I upgrade my computer, the software is lost. That’s a bit oppressive. I’ll pass.

Oct 10 2020 at 5:11am Copy Link

2

Tim Parsons No, you just have to ask the company to release your licence so you can reinstall. Been through that myself, they're quick and amenable.

Edward Smith Thanks for the clarification Tim, I appreciate the help.

They should change the fine print then, because that is not what is says in the fine print.

Dennis McKay Licensing is an issue. Should be a standard 2 PC license. I can see calling the company at 2 a.m. on a Sunday morning to release my license so I can install it on another computer. For that reason I have to pass.

Tim Parsons This is a very decent program, bought from here last time it was on offer.

Its ability to let you mount a backup as a read-only disk (allowing you to go ferreting around for individual files) is particularly useful. Also, its facility for incremental image-based backups is excellent. It's not unique, but it's definitely very well implemented and very quick to use.

My only issue with it is the licencing mechanism, that bit me after a system failure.

So I backed up my laptop using this, after which I reset Windows and returned the laptop for replacement under warranty.

In order to restore my system, I first had to install the software -- and that copy didn't want to work with my old licence code as it was still marked with the supplier as used. So before I could restore my backup, I had to contact the company to reset my licence so I could reuse it. They did this quickly enough but it feels clumsy and like a vulnerability for the end user.

JW Purchased this product back in 2020 when it was on offer through BDJ [BDJ-xTdsnx] with Lifetime Upgrades - but it doesn't now Activate using the Registration key supplied back then.
I've tried downloading using the link provided back then, as well as downloading the trial version from here today - but with the same result telling me that the key is either incorrect for this version or has timed out.[Copied & Pasted!]
Anyway, it kinda means that the key sold here as 'Lifetime' really isn't a lifetime key!! Truly disappointed.

Bettina User @developer/frodeuser

Hallo,
following questions:

1. in which file format does Quiling save the backups
- partition / disks
- system backup
- files/folder?

Is it a special quiling-file format or a file format - like zip - that can be opened with common software too?

2Is there also a possibility of a 1:1 saving of files and folders (wihtout another fileformat)?

Thank you for clarifying in advance

HJ B Based upon your explanation, the program comes with a lifetime license and lifetime upgrades. However, it can only be installed on one computer and the license is not transferable to another computer. I have yet to see a computer that lasts a normal human lifetime.

If the initial installation is on a computer that has gone to heaven, must the user then re-purchase the program in order to have it on the replacement computer? Are the backups functional on a second computer that does not have the program installed?

Tim Parsons @HJ B -- The activation process is a bit of a pain as it requires asking for the license to be reissued after a reinstallation, but it's excellent and reliable software and I've never had a problem getting my license reinstated.

My only concern is that it doesn't seem to be updated very often, and that the creation of boot/recovery media is dependent on a third party. However, it has saved my bacon on a couple of occasions and it's amongst the fastest backup and disk management solutions I've ever used.
