What are people saying about R10Clean

Wm Shore In the introduction (page 4) the R10Clean manual state's that "the grid size restriction of R10Clean are:", then it says unlimited rows BUT ONLY 60 COLUMNS. Am I misunderstanding something? - that seems awfully puny for something that's supposed to be a heavy-duty tool.

Steve Cholerton Hi. If your data has more than 60 columns then you need a different tool, which puts you in a whole different ballpark of price. If in future it's something that gets asked for a lot then of course I will increase the amount of columns. Cheers - Steve

Steve Cholerton FAQ:
Q: Excel can do some of this stuff ?
A: Yes, Excel can do *some* of these tasks, but not all. R10Clean is not designed to replace Excel, but it can be used in conjunction with it. R10Clean has it's own functionality and advantages. Also, unless you are running the very latest versions of Excel you are limited to approximately 60000 rows. In addition if your needs are basically data oriented rather than numeric you may find that R10Clean saves you the expense of purchasing Excel.

Q: What is the maximum size of your grid ?
A: The practical row limit depends of your computers memory. You will probably be able to handle over five hundred thousand rows and sixty columns of data, with no problems.

Q: Will you add extra Tasks ?
A: We will consider every request made and will be enhancing this product continually. The component based architecture of R10Clean means that it is easy for us to 'snap in' tasks very quickly and easily.

Q: How do I get support ?
A: Please email support

Techtoysavvy Can you read XML?
I have a 6GB uncompressed XML file to clean.
Access and Excel currently choke on control characters.
There is some open source python code than can postprocess the file before loading it into SQL. I am looking for a better solution to clean this data. I can point you to the 900MB compressed file.

Steve Cholerton Hi
Reading it should be no problem but the size might present a problem ... It's cheap enough to find out :-)
Cheers - Steve

Techtoysavvy yeah. I agree :). much less effort than hacking some python code.
Let me download and try it on the XML. I have some smaller XML that I can try first. It has an annoying organization and I have to do something to fix it (like XSLT).

Seems like a lot of hobby data for media management is transferred on the net in XML.
