What are people saying about Random Number Generator

Anand Shraddhan Can the user specify the distribution of the numbers, e.g. linear, gaussian, poisson?

Big Bad Wolf What's the difference between this and the RAND() function in almost every programming environment available? Can I generate only prime numbers? Number that are divisible by X, where X can be user defined?

John - Hi,

Thanks -- answering the first question (Anand)-- that is a good idea (re: linear/gaussian/poisson). That is not currently available, but has been added on the 'to-do' list for a future version.

Answering the second question (Wolf): The difference is that you have control over a number of settings on how the random numbers are generated. (I.e., whether to include/exclude certain digits, precision, uniqueness, etc). Of course if you are a programmer, you can do this yourself -- but it takes time. This software is designed to save time -- so if you are doing testing (i.e., say need to seed values for testing an online game, need random statistical numbers, etc) -- then this takes 2 minutes. If you were to manually type it in/program it, it would take you probably 20 minutes or more depending on what you were trying to do. And, then of course if you make changes (re: programming), it takes even more time. So this software is designed to be a time saver.

Just Some Guy Could you post a list of, say, 23 random numbers, maybe nnn.nnnn decimals, in the comments here, to show the abilities of this program, as a sample? Not that I actually need 23 such numbers...well, I do need them, but I'll need them again, but different ones next time, so I might buy if the numbers are good.

Just Some Guy Also, what was that about "hating on the number '9'"? I assume you mean the numeral, which is awesome. But yeah, if you mean the number, it does kinda suck.

Now 7, I'm doing some hating on that. Everyone loves lucky number 7, even though it sucks. And everyone hates 6, even though it rules. Probably that Bible thing.

John - Here you go: (p.s., it took me about 10 seconds, just to enter the parameters):

And yes, you can exclude certain digits, or include certain ones if you like them more :)

Just Some Guy Wow! That was fast. But those numbers don't look totally random. There seems to be a subtle pattern. I'm not sure, but it seems like it. Could you post an even more random set? Is there a "randomness" dial in the software?

Don Numbero Sometimes I think of a random number when I'm sleeping, but by the time I wake up I've forgotten it. This program will be great for me!

John - Actually the software is pretty random :) Not sure what you are basing the 'randomness detection', but you can control other variables such as min/max ranges, to get it to your liking.

Just Some Guy OK. Maybe I was imaging it. I'll try the numbers you posted. I'm going to Atlantic City tomorrow.

Can I still get the discount if I buy it on Wednesday, after I've tried these "random" numbers out?

Roger Thomasson Sorry, these deals are for 24 hours only. It's now or never :-)

Best of luck!

Jacob Fulton Does this program have the ability to randomly generate credit card numbers? I have need of a program to mass-generate credit card numbers.

Gary Avery Can this program be used to hold contest on your own website? If I wanted to hold giveaways could a member click a button to get a random number and then I click a button to choose the winning number?
