What are people saying about Rapid PHP 2022

Franck W. I'd like some additional details regarding this product.

1/ I've been using the trial for 2 days now, and I like it !
Though, I'm not sure I understand how to properly use the sql facilities it offers. Whereas I can see php output right inside RapidPHP (as long as I have php on my hard disk), can I make this output sql dependent right inside RapidPHP?
I think I obviously need to run a local mysql server... but then I guess I will set the connection string right in my php code...
So what is these sql facilities made for ?

2/ Is there some where some more code snippets to grab or should extra code snippets be edited by hand only?

3/ What is your upgrade policy if I want to upgrade to a later version of RapidPHP? to the current or a later version of WeBuilder?

Thanks for these details and thanks for this great offer !

Karlis Blumentals You are correct, you need to have a running mysql server in order to use SQL connectivity features. The SQL features allow you to have a quick view of your SQL database structure (this may be helpful if you have forgotten table or field name).

Franck W. Thanks Karlis for your answer...
May I ask one think more? I'm currently using Ms Expression Web but I can do with something lighter (all the more that I don't use neither asp.net nor sql server) and I like your rapid php program.
Hence, is there somethink like expression web dynamic web template (dwt files) in it ?

If not, I probably buy it anyway (at this huge discount rate, it's a bargain) but I'm pretty sure I'll deeply miss this feature...

Alan Carr What are your licence terms (regarding installs) and renewal/update policy (of software)?

Thanks
Feb 17 2010 at 12:37am Copy Link
0
Karlis Blumentals Alan:
This version on sale is the full professional license. You can install and use the software 1) at work, 2) on a laptop and 3) at home. Updates are free, upgrades to new major releases are for a small fee. Major upgrades are also free to users who bought old version just before the new release (usually 4 - 6 month range).

Franck:
I am afraid Rapid PHP editor can not offer a DWT analog, but it has a lot of useful features of its own and you are also welcome to submit your ideas as feature suggestions.

Question on Licensing Terms Hi,

Does this mean, to be very clear, includes a professional license for 3 computer workstations (which includes one laptop) or in other words 3 seperate installations?

If this is the case, it is really a very nice and generous offer as mentioned above.
Feb 17 2010 at 11:10pm Copy Link
0
Gatis Avots Hi,

Yes, you can have three installations of the product. But this is true only with the professional or 4-Team licenses.

The personal license allows you to install the product 1) at home and 2) on a laptop (so it means two installations).

Kind regards,
Gatis

Stephane M I was interested in getting WebBuilder too as I missed the previous BDJ on it (May), so yes there is still the option to upgrade after buying Rapid PHP but what is the price? $39.85? If so, that would make WebBuilder for $59.81 and we can get the full version for $69.85 without discount. So yes still saving but not big. Am I correct with the prices or does the upgrade from Rapid PHP to WebBuilder cost less than $39.85? Thanks!

Karlis Blumentals The next version will include support for HTML5, Smarty, various PHP and JavaScript frameworks, HTML code and preview area synchronization for easier HTML design, improved project management, integration with compare tools, better UTF-8 handling, implementation of many customer suggestions accumulated over the past years. There was no serious update during past 6 months or so, because the code was out of shape due to huge internal changes, many of the new features are not small and quick enhancements. The upcoming new version is one of the biggest updates that we have ever released. Of course, we could release what we have before time, but then tons of users would complain about bugs and ask why this or that feature that had been asked for years was not included.

Gren Bingham I just installed on my XP and tried to run hello world, as given in the product, with debug. It did not work. It opened IE8 and then nothing happened.

You should have an "idiot's guide" to installing and using for people like me. You know the kind ... put left foot in front of right foot, then put right foot in front of left foot, then ....

I used to program systems software for IBM, so I am not an idiot, I just don't know how what I need to do to install and run a PHP IDE on Windows XP.

This is the second time I have been disappointed trying out RapidPHP. I really want to use it, but I don't want to spend two or three hours figuring out how to make it work.

Best regards, Gren.

Gatis Avots Gren,

Please check out following "idiot's guide" for PHP ;)
http://kb.blumentals.net/...egoryID=34

The easiest way is to install the following PHP set-up package, and then try running and debugging PHP scripts:
http://www.blumentals.net...ad/php.php

Gren Bingham Hello Gatis,

Your reply illustrates the problem. The FAQ helps me diagnose FAILURE AFTER IT HAS HAPPENED. I want a simple pathway of instructions that will result in a working installtion.

I uninstalled PHP and reinstalled from the link you suggest above. You said that was sufficient to run the product, thus I assume the "hello world" example in debug. It did not run. I checked the FAQ and found out I had to change some preferences. I did that and it did not work on the built in browser.

I am now in a position of having to spend hours trying to debug the installation because I do not have a simple, clear pathway laid out that will result in a successful installation if I follow it step by step.

Best regards and frustrated,

Gren.

Karlis Blumentals While this is offtopic (problems and frustrations should be solved at the helpdesk), I think there must have been something specific about your computer because I have personally designed the setups and they should work right "out of the box", restart should do nothing at all unless some utility, firewall or other software does something to TCP/IP connections or if the TCP/IP port is blocked by some other app (very rare scenario). The php and xdebug package installs and configures the editor automatically and no changes are required to the settings.

BUT all in one you are cool because most offers on bds are not so exciting as they are only up to 50%.

The "Rapid PHP 2014 Personal" version is indeed $39.95. The personal version is for personal, non-commercial use by students and home users.

The "Rapid PHP 2014" version is $59.95 (or $49.95 EURO). This version is for general use by professional developers, companies and government organizations.

Petr I have searched your website but didn't find info about a Trial of your software. Do you have a trial? If yes, is it full featured? How long is the trail before I need to 'activate' with a purchased license? Thanks

Karlis Blumentals Yes, sure, just click the big Download button. That is the trial version. It allows 30 uses.

SFuji I assume this program is not portable, i.e. run from a USB drive.

Martin Jay @SFuji - it runs from a USB drive. See a list of features here: http://www.webuilderapp.com/editions.php

I've been using this offering's big brother, Webuilder, for a few years. It's an excellent product.

I think Rapid PHP offers all the features I need. I only opted for Webuilder because it was on offer at the time.

Give the free trial a go.

govertz I can only recommend Rapid PHP, I've used it since 2010. It's so easy to work with.
And it's not only php, there's html5, css3, javascript and mysql, very easy snippet handling, ftp and more.
If you find Sublime text and other editors to complicated, then Rapid PHP is a good alternative.
I'm not in any way related to Blumentals, except as a very satisfied user.

Karlis Blumentals Rapid PHP can be installed as portable app. To do this, choose removable drive as installation target and you will be offered a choice to install as portable app.

Another thing - version 2015 is due in a few months and everybody who buys 2014 here now, gets a free upgrade.

Greg Kartis - thanks for the 2015 upg. Makes it much more appealing for sure.

Would you be so kinds as to say what are the big essential differences between this and the HTMLpad then, if it handles all those others: html5, css3, etc.? Is it a super set of the HTMLpad?

Also, if we buy this AND another one of your packages is there additional 30% off the other package? Interested in the Rapid SEO tool.

Thanks, G

Jan User I tried some editors for web-languages like PHP, HTML, CSS, Javascript. This is my favorite one. I use it for 1 year now and I'm really satisfied.

There is one circumstance that makes me unhappy: when I'm editting css-files and want to use the function "go over the color-hex-code and the color appears" I always have to wait 3 to 4 seconds. If you use that function a lot seconds feel like hours. If you developers would change it the program will get the missing percent of a 100% well coded programm.

Karlis Blumentals Thank you for this info. Interestingly by design it should be 1 - 1.5 seconds only and I can confirm this on my computer.

If you have indeed to wait 3-4 seconds for color preview popup square to appear, it seems excessive. Please contact our helpdesk via our website to file an official bug report. You might be asked some further details.

Petr Does this software have Live CSS capability? I mean, does it have the ability to edit HTML pages with changes to CSS being shown dynamically to give immediate feedback to the developer?

Karlis Blumentals I'm not sure what you mean. This is a code editor, so you will have to save the linked CSS file and then use preview to see the results. You can launch the preview with a single key-press.

Shazza I've just asked this as a support query, but given the turnaround time is up to 3 days, and this deal is coming soon, I thought I would ask here in the hope of having some time to trial the software.

Does RapidPHP install the Java Runtime Environment - I've had lots of issues with it, and am not prepared to install any software which utilises it.

Thanks

Eustace Phenackertiban I have downloaded the trial, and I like what I see, in general. However, there is one thing that I need to clear up before purchasing. My Logitech mouse Setpoint software allows me to configure (scroll wheel) left-click as "Ctrl-C" and (scroll wheel) right-click as "Ctrl-V.". This is incredibly helpful when moving and copying bits of code between and within files within the editor, and between other resources like stackoverflow, php manual, other forums, and the editor, and the function is supported by all OS functions (e.g. copy/paste in Explorer) and by every other app and editor I own, including Notepad, Wordpad, NoteTab Pro, PSPad, Expression Web 4, etc., and even my old version of Aptana.

My question is, why does Rapid PHP not support this function? Is there a configuration setting or other method that you can suggest which would provide this support? I really, really like Rapid PHP, but I really depend upon those mouse functions for rapid manipulation of text. Thank you.

Karlis Blumentals Shazza, sorry for a late reply.

Rapid PHP does not install Java and it does not need Java, it runs naively and is very fast at loading and running.

Karlis Blumentals Eustace, since scrollwheel left and right click are not an industry standard features and we have never had similar request and never had our hands on such mouse, it is simply not implemented. You may contact our support team to file a feature request, however currently this feature is not available.

Guy Good @Eustace

Have you looked at the Logitech Setpoint software to see if has a configuration option to send the emulated key commands to user specified program?

I do not own a Logitech Mouse, so I am just trying to help.

This has an application specific description:

http://support.logitech.c...GAAQ#wheel

Scroll back for more details.

Hope this helps

Eustace Phenackertiban @Guy Good - Thanks for taking the time, Guy. Mine's a different mouse, but it has substantially the same configuration options ("Media Player" and "Mute" instead of "Cruise Up/Down"). The one in common that I am using is "Keystroke Assignment," which opens a text entry box when selected. In that box I have "Ctrl-C" entered for "Left-Click" and "Ctrl-V" for "Right-Click."

@Karlis Blumentals - As explained above, it is not that the mouse is sending non-industry standard "left-click" or "right-click." It is sending the actual keystrokes Ctrl-C and Ctrl-V (or perhaps the virtual keycodes that correspond to those keystrokes) to the app. The Windows OS and **every other app I own** accept those keystrokes as if sent from the keyboard, and either copy or paste as expected. Rapid PHP, unfortunately, does not. I am hoping that this is something that can be accomplished in program configuration, or that you know that you can address and can commit to doing so. Otherwise, I'll have to wait until the next promotion and hope that it's fixed by then. So, can you fix it? ;-)

Eduardo Amado Price in your website is $49.95, so after 60% off should be at $19.98. Why do you increase the price for BitsDuJour suscribers?

Yapues I checked their website, there are different licenses and the one you quoted is for personal, non commercial use while the one offered here can be used by professional developers, companies and government organizations. The product name also differs, you quoted the Personal version which is named as such.
