Peter pereh Is there a way to make the RecentX window still visible when/after right-clicking an action? I have tried the Auto Hide settings, but either the window vanishes, or it stays in the foreground, covering what I just called.

Frank Stephens I couldn't find a version history, so I doubt this issue was changed from last time. RecentX works by hijacking some of the tracking that Windows does, making itself look better and Windows worse. Much of what RecentX does is already available in Vista and higher, and AnVir Task Manager does much the same without crippling Windows.

Gautam Jain Thanks Gail, Peter, Frank & S C.

@Gail, we are offering version 3.0 again. we will ask BDJ to remove (New Version) from the title.

@Peter, the RecentX window will stay visible if you disable 'Auto Hide'. In order to keep the window on foreground, you will also need to check the 'Stay on Top' option which can be enabled by clicking on the little down arrow next to the green pin (Auto Hide)

@Frank, we replied to you in our last promotion. You can read the last comment on this page: http://www.bitsdujour.com...re/recentx .

Thanks.

John Peter I'm disappointed from V3. The website tab stores only a limited amount of adresses. For a better finding it was preferable to see the favicons. And at the end it's working more slowly than V2

Gautam Jain Hello John,

By default, RecentX 3.0 shows only essential websites. Meaning, it hides many trivial URLs that we hardly search for. This is done to improve performance.

However, RecentX 3.0 provides an option to list 'All' urls also.

It would be better if you be specific about what part of RecentX 3.0 is slow. I suggest that you send a separate email about this to support [at] conceptworld [dot] com

Thanks.

Gautam Jain

I wrote it last time but Conceptworld sayz that I have slow machine or sth like this. It happens when click on icon after some time of inactivity. Next time the window appears fast.
I'd like to say all 3 progz from Conceptworld are great and I'm registered user.

Jerzy FromPoland Yes, indeed. But nothing has changed. I always use latest build (now 8) and the problem exists. But only on notebooks (I used IBM Thinkpad R60 with intel core2duo 5500 and now I use Lenovo sl510 with intel core2duo 5870 and 4 GB RAM, Windows XP on old machine and windows 7 now). It doesn't happens on my computer with intel E8400 processor and 8GB of RAM (windows 7 64bit).

Ennovy RecentX is nice software, but I use my file manager (Directory Opus). It can find and filter my recent documents It uses favorites to go to the folders I mostly need It can startup my favorite applications Furthermore my Opera browser keeps track of the websites I visit. I do use your excellent software NoteZilla though ;)

Tore Hoyem I downloaded the demo, and have played with it for a little while. It seems to be a lot more useful than I expected it to be, and I'll likely purchase a license. What are your licensing terms? Specifically, can I use it both on my (personal) desktop PC and my laptop? Does it use some obnoxious activation / hardware locking scheme?

Thanks Tore,

If you are the *only* user between 2 computers, then you can purchase just a single user license and use it on both the computers. Please note that this policy is applicable to a maximum of 2 computers only.

No hardware locking etc. Simple file based activation.

H. H. Hallo,
I bought RecentX 3 at another BDJ offer, and I really can recommend buying. It's one of those utilities I won't miss anymore, since the fast access to plenty of files, folders, programs and websites is really timesaving.
For old machines (my laptop is 51/4 years old, 2gb ram) t's a little bit ressources-hungry (perhaps the developers may optimize this), but it stil works and on more modern machines that won't be an issue.
The userfriendly policy (per user, not per machine) is another argument for buying.
with kind regards
H.H.

Otherwise, please refund the amount.

Frank Stephens UI preferences are personal. I don't like separate programs and I don't like having Windows tracking information deleted. Windows 7 has numerous ways of selecting files, tracking recent files, and has a great search feature. I like Listary, especially Listary Pro, because it works within standard dialog boxes and lists. I also liked AnVir, but I had problems with the way it hooked into networking.

David Volle I just loaded the trial and find the list of recent files filled with system files like the normal.dot template for word etc of course these files are of no interest, is there a way to list only files opened by the user instead of ones opened automatically by programs or the OS?

Joe Nav can anyone tell me the of yesterdays product.... I had a brain freeze and I just needed to know the name??
Mar 2 2011 at 4:04am Copy Link

Gautam Jain @David

RecentX has two lists. 'Recent' list and 'All' list. The Recent list 'mostly' does not pick files that were not accessed by you. It does not pick the files accessed by programs or OS. Normal.dot is not a system file. It is Microsoft Word template document which you may have accessed some time ago.

I said 'mostly' because this also depends on the programs running on your system. Some scheduler programs consider .job files as documents although they mean nothing to regular users.

RecentX has 'Filters' feature that you can use to eliminate files of particular type or name. Thanks.

K X I trialed this program out about six months ago, and right away found that it sped up my daily work flow, so I bought it within a couple of days, long before the trial version expired, and without waiting for it to show up at a discount on Bits du Jour (although I thought it might). It's that good.

The same thing goes for Notezilla: they are both elegant programs I use on a daily basis at work and at home.

For anyone who's a long-time user of Directory Opus (or even who just bought it yesterday), read the older/previous comments on this RecentX thread for a link to how to integrate the two.

I use the file, folder, and application functions of RecentX more than the web site one (for bookmarking & opening webpages, I primarily use LInkman Pro, which is going on sale soon at BdJ, I think). But RecentX is is also extremely useful here for filling in a gap: it lets me find websites I have visited and did not explicitly bookmark.

For file finding & opening Recent\X is faster than than anything else I've tried (that is, it requires few keystrokes). I have lots of custom drop down menus set up in DOpus for my programs, all organized by category, but RecentX is faster.

And like RecentX the program, Gautam himself is very quick (in responding to every email question I've ever had)!

Preston Mitchell Gautam -- WHERE DOES ONE FIND 'Edit Tag' ???

I agree with the design principle of KISS (keep it simple for stupid people). But a developer can carry that principle TOO FAR if an user can't find a basic function on a menu anywhere.

LOOK, I installed the trial version to see if I liked RecentX. I created several useless tags--named TEST-- just to learn the Tag function. NOW I either want to RENAME or DELETE those useless Tags. HOW?
Jul 26 2011 at 10:02am Copy Link

Andre Laprade To rename or delete a Tag category simply click on the tag category you want to edit to the left of the option icon (cog wheel) and then click on the option icon. It took me a while to figure that one out.

anything i am missing ?

+

i use cubicexplorer mainly as alternative to explorer, and its latest opened folders are not showing up - the recent ones i have used just lately.
so which all explorer replacements does recentx do with ?

+ can cubicexplorer be added to its list ?

Software Eval I've downloaded the portable version. When I run RecentX, nothing happens. I've tried to bring it up with the hotkey shown in the help file (Ctrl+Shift+1), but again nothing happens. I see that it is running in Task Manager. I've also tried using Ctrl+Q to make sure that it isn't Auto Hidden.

I'm very interested and would love to test the software before buy, but I don't want to install it just to test. Any ideas?

Emil Kucera Hi, when setting XYplorer as the file manager, how can I make a folder use the already active instance? The XYplorer is configured to run one instance only, yet it still opens a new one. Is there a parameter in recentx that would do it?

Gautam Jain @Andre Laprade,

Thanks. We haven't tested with other alternatives like Q-Dir. RecentX can track files opened in other Explorer alternatives, but it cannot track folders.

One of our customers made Directory Opus work with RecentX for files and folders, both - http://www.conceptworld.c...h-recentx/

Gautam Jain @Software Eval

Can you try this?

Go to RecentX data folder and delete the file Settings.xml and restart RecentX. RecentX stores its data under the following folder:

Windows XP: C:\Documents and Settings\user name\Application Data\Conceptworld\RecentX\
Windows Vista/7: C:\Users\user name\AppData\Roaming\Conceptworld\RecentX\

You can run %APPDATA% from start menu to directly go to AppData folder.

Thanks.

For this, you would have to find the right XYPlorer command line that will use the existing instance. Please contact the XYPlorer support for the same. Thanks.

Bxxxx Oxxxx I purchased this in feb 2010. The idea and the potential with this program is great.
After installation, my PC turned out to be so slow that it was impossible to use. After un-installing, everything was normal again.
This is a long time ago and RecentX might be updated and fixed by now.
Or is it normal for this kind of program that it causes lots of background activity that makes the PC slow?
Are there any measurements or documentation showing backround activity in MB or a slow down percentage ?
I wouldn't mind testing it again if I had indication that it has been improved

We have released 7 updates of RecentX in last 2 years. You can click on 'Revision History' when you go to download RecentX from http://www.conceptworld.c...X/Download

In last 2 years we have done many things to improve performance. Please do download & check.

The background activity goes on only when you are not using the system like any other similar programs.

VLM This product seems a bit pricy to me, given what I THINK it does. Perhaps I misunderstand, but my sense is that it essentially enhances the standard Windows recent documents. Or am I missing something important?

david fullerton @VLM, I agree with your assessment. I see this alot on this BitsDuJour.com site. I'd like some of these apps, but they're just too much and fill such a small need that it is hard to really want to purchase them. Soemthing like this should sell for less. I like the concept but not sure that I'll use it enough to get my money's worth.

@VLM & @David

It is not just about recent documents, you can find & launch any file.

It automatically detects all the deep folders that you use. Very handy & time saving.

Plus you can lookup & launch programs & websites/bookmarks from Firefox, Chrome & IE.

Also supports tags, smart tags & filtering.

Thanks for your feedback.

Ralph Bressler I bought RecentX the last time it was offered. I am still learning to use it but so far it has proven well worth the purchase price. The ability to access files, folders, programs and websites is very useful. A really important addition is the tag and smart tag option which allows you to set up your own categories by manually or automatically tagging certain objects. I had a question about these tags and emailed the vendor. The response was very quick and on point.

Danny So this is basically the same idea as RecentX Launcher ' Folder Scout ' and ' Listary ', is more convenient, more compact and only RecentX Launcher easier. So better, I have it right?
Nov 27 2012 at 3:07pm Copy Link

VLM Gautam Jain - So is it fair to characterize this program as a combination of recent plus local favorites plus Internet favorites, all in one place?

Ralph Bressler (or anyone else :) - Listary (and I presume Folder Scout) does only a part of this. Linkman may do a lot of what this application does, but using an entirely different approach. Have you experience with either of these programs, such that you might comment?

Glen Hilton RE "In last 2 years we have done many things to improve performance. Please do download & check."

Hi Gautam Jain

Well thats exactly what I did.

Purchased in Feb 2010 and realised it had CPU issues. Just had another look and downloaded latest version hoping for CPU improvements though was very disappointed. .It still has constant CPU issues, Other apps seem to be able to monitor recent activity without the large CPU drain, why not Recent X ? . No wonder other apps also slow down when Recent X is activated. Uninstallled again and hope the vendor fixes these issues within the current version so we might be able to get some use out of it... Would not recommend this app in its current form to anyone. You'd be better off with Listary, Direct folders, Buzz etc.

Thanks everyone for their feedback. Really helpful. It gives us direction.

We have had great response for RecentX (same version).

You can read past comments on BDJ, read reviews on CNet - http://download.cnet.com/...45095.html and also testimonials on our website: http://www.conceptworld.c...stimonials

I suggest that others try out RecentX on their systems & check how it fits your needs. Also, performance is a subjective thing & is dependent to other programs installed, RAM, hard disk, OS etc.

Thanks.

Danny @Glen Hilton,

So according to you is the best Application Launcher with a RecentX 1 large disadvantage: CPU, such a heavy disadvantage that better retarder is another application (Buzz, Listary, Folder Scout, etc ...) to use than RecentX Launcher. I see that good?
Nov 27 2012 at 10:11pm Copy Link

Ralph Bressler I don't know what the CPU issue is. I have had the program running fro a week now and the only time it showed much CPU use was when it was cataloging the disk and this was when the computer was idle. I am running Windows 7 64 bit on an I5. I don't see any slowdown in any programs. Am I just lucky or are others seeing what is not there?

David Fullerton I must say that I am more impressed after working with it throughout today. I use ' LISTARY ' and I really like it, but this application fills a different void. It allows you to track what you have used most recently and it categorizes it by type of file (file, folder, etc.), then you can click on it and jump to it. And, it is visually appealing. I am quite impressed with it, and I would say that the value is there if the pricing was a little more favorable. Yes, I know it takes money to develop, but it's not something that will be used excessively. I'd prefer a low entry then updates on a yearly basis.

Thomas Evans I liked the idea of this program. I downloaded the trial about an hour ago. Nice idea but it's buggy. After using it a few times when I mouse over the program the cursor goes busy and you cannot do anything. You then have to 'End process' with the task manager. I cannot see buying this the way it works now.

Thanks Thomas for trying RecentX. If you can email us (supportconceptworld.com) when exactly the program got stuck (like when accessing files/folders/programs/websites). Also, did you try running it again & using the same function again?

Loco78 * Maybe another program with similar functions interfere with FolderX Launcher-sometimes it happens when the two programs have the same rights (eg AntiVirus)., I use the trial version for a month and everything works ok (Windows 7 64bit Profesjonal) Now I'm waiting for tomorrow's promotion to purchase a license.

1.I see the last upgrade was 3.0.16 on November.2013, the only one of 2013! During 2012, only 3 versions came out.
Before buying, I would like to know if there are any plans to continue development, if any new version is expected soon, meaning this year...
I see the Dev did not answer user "_*_" question ...
2.This line on the Policy tab: "Each license allows installation on 2 computers, but RecentX Launcher may not be used at exactly the same time on each of them" is impossible to follow!
I open my PCs/Laptops at the same time & they stay open all day. This prog launches at start up. How exactly are we able to "not use" at the same time?
3.Also it says "Upgrades to future versions of the software will require additional payment": Does it mean we «never» have the right to upgrade to any future version?
Could you please answer these questions, it will determine if I'm buying or not.
Peace

Thanks @Tortuga,

--- Before buying, I would like to know if there are any plans to continue

Of course. RecentX is a fantastic software that we will keep developing. We are planning a version this year. In fact we are planning a major version sometime end of this year.

--- I see the Dev did not answer user "_*_" question ...

This answer was being moderated & was hidden when we replied to the previous use.

--- 2.This line on the Policy tab: "Each license allows installation on 2

Sorry. BitsDuJour added that. You can use on up to 2 computers simultaneously.

--- 3.Also it says "Upgrades to future versions of the software will require
--- additional payment": Does it mean we «never» have the right to upgrade to
--- any future version?

Only major versions (they will be available to existing customers at discounted price). Minor updates won't require payments.

Thanks.

Tortuga @Gautam Jain
Thank you for your answer. Think I'll wait see what new features the new major version has, since versions are so spaced out.
Also, you really should reconsider the restriction of only 2 PCs, as I don't know anybody that only has 2! With iterations from XP to W8 that still function well, on dual boots, tablets, netbooks, it adds up ... The "per user" policy should cover all owned PCs only used by that person. Either extend it to 5 units, as the majority of companies do, or a family license.
Peace
