What are people saying about RecentX

Rich Adin I purchased RecentX last time it was offered for myself and each of my employees and have been very happy with it. We primarily use it for the drag-and-drop ability to add attachments to e-mails and for finding recently used documents by extension. By that I mean we can display only files with .doc or .pdf or .zip or whatever extension, making it easy to find specific files. Highly recommend. (Also recommend PikyBasket which is freeware from the same company. Great way to copy, move, etc. 1 or more files.)

As a bonus I discovered that NoteZilla was sold at a reduced price. Tried NoteZilla, loved it, purchased it, too :) Great apps, folks at Conceptworld. Thanks for the additional discount on NoteZilla!

Brenda G4 I got RecentX when it was offered on GiveAwayOfTheDay. I was thinking.. should I purchase it or not? I wasn't sure if I used it enough to justify purchasing it. Well, it crashed today. That is the first time it has done that. What I noticed was how irritating it was that I couldn't go right to the file I wanted. In fact, I couldn't even remember the full path to the file anymore! I will be purchasing it after I post my comment.

adrian williams Forget your favourites. Use recentx to retrieve any web page you've browsed recently. It goes further - files, programs and folders. There's a search facility to filter the history. With this you can have a clean desktop as you can run all your regularly used programs from recentx. You can view specific files like pdf's and then open them. You can even copy files from recentx to any folder on your PC.
I use this program every day and I'm using Vista Ultimate with no problems. It's a real time saver. I'd recommend you download the trial and use it for a few days to see how much it can help you.

Gautam Jain Hello everybody,

The new version of RecentX (3.0) has improved by leaps and bounds. You can find (as-you-type) any file or folder on your computer (older version listed only recent items). The looks have improved and it now supports tags & smart tags. Plus the performance have been improved significantly. It also lists history and bookmarks from Firefox, IE, Chrome & Opera.

Please do try the new version.

Also, RecentX order form here will let you add Notezilla (30% off) and PikySuite (50% off) to the shopping cart at discounted price.

K H have either purchased a license for or have used all four of Conceptworld's programs. I would recommend any one of them highly. They are handsome, efficient, easy to use, and the developer is helpful and responsive. What more could anyone ask? Right now I'm using the older version (2.0) of RecentX. It sits there in a corner of my screen, taking up hardly any room, and never bothers me unless I ask it to. That in itself is a wonder with all the intrusive CPU grabbing applications I've recently been prey to. Then, when I need it, it pops up its pretty face and shows me where I've been, what I'm searching for, then opens it for me - right now - not after a long pause and a lot of humming.

Great price for a great program.

Adrian Williams I bought recent x v3 recently and I must say it's better than v2 in the way it can scan all files on your PC. It has been stated in other places that recent x does not accurately log the full browsing history. I have found this to be the case as well. For example, i've been on loads of sites today looking for the cheapest creative zen mozaic mp3 player i could find. Ebay, amazon and all over their site for headphones, alternatives etc etc. Recent x3 shows a total of 3 websites visited today not one of them ebay or amazon. Not even this site. I used firefox 3.0.14

Another comment mentioned by others - no password protection. I too would like to see that as an option.

Support is good however. I've always got a response to any question I asked.

What worries me even more is that many software vendors on bits du jour offer their software for free on another website - including recent x. (7th Nov 2008) .
Today, for example womble are giving away their MPEG wizard DVD software today - the very one I paid for on 3rd September.

This pattern is becoming quite regular. i got a full refund from iprint when I contacted them about their software, another which I bought in good faith. lets see how Rachel at Womble.com responds.

Sorry to be off-topic but why pay for any piece of software that's given away free elsewhere ?

Gautam Jain Thank you very much K H. Really encouraging.

Adrian, thanks for your feedback.

An older version of RecentX was given away free on GOTD because at that time we were planning to launch a new version. This new version will never be given free for next few years. Plus GOTD versions are different. You are not allowed to reinstall and they are supposed to be for personal use only.

Password protection has been added in the new version.

Adrian, RecentX by default shows only essential websites to improve performance. You will need to turn on "Full History" in order to show all websites. Also make sure you haven't set any filters. Please send a separate email to us for further details if you still have problems. We will help.

Thanks.

Roger Thomasson Adrian, you're more than welcome to pass on any Bits du Jour offer in the hopes that the software will appear on Giveawayoftheday.com after our mandatory 2 week window. That's a gamble, and one that you're perfectly entitled to take.

However, this falls squarely under the category of "having your cake and eating it to", don't you think?

Bottom line: if we start getting to many refund requests like this (which come directly out of our pocket), we'll be forced to stipulate that vendors wait even longer than 2 weeks to participate in other promotions. Especially in the case of Giveawayoftheday. And that won't be good for anybody!

Please consider the ramifications of your complaint.

-Roger

Adrian Williams Thanks Gautam,
I've adjusted the settings. It was set for essential history rather than full history. It would be interesting to see how recentx determines what's essential and what's not. Maybe thats a topic for off-line conversation !

Daniel H I would like to ask whether the program has similar functionality as Copernic Desktop Search in finding also words/phrases within documents - like doc, docx, pdf etc.
Sep 16 2009 at 7:28pm Copy Link
0
Gautam Jain Thanks for asking Daniel,

RecentX does not look inside documents. It just finds files/folders/programs/websites by name & address.

What is special about RecentX is that it gets you your favorite files much faster to you and avoids listing all the unnecessary files that you are never going to use. Ofcourse you have any option to see all trivial files too.

The problem with desktop search software is that they list too many results. Which makes them slower. It becomes hard to choose from so many files etc.

What we love about RecentX is its automatic folder tracking system. It will list only the folders that you access. Jumping to any folder is damn easy. Of course you have option to see rest of the folders too.

Gautam Jain

Adrian Williams I need to clarify my position. I have no objection to any software vendor offering a bigger discount elsewhere. My disappointment is that the discount in this case I referred to was 100% and within very short space of time after me paying for it. I have no objection to the vendor giving away an earlier revision of a product in order to encourage more to buy their latest version. This is a common practice. To give their latest product away only two weeks after the BDJ promotion also seems unreasonable (but only just). I would not expect a refund after that and have retracted my request for a refund from Womble.com. I still support them and would still recommend their excellent video software.

Jason Howard Adrian -

"why pay for any piece of software that's given away free elsewhere ?"

Paying your $10 or $20:

* Entitles you to support and bug fixes/updates
* Permits reinstallation in the case of errors or a rebuild
* Possibly entitles you to discounts on other programs
* Supports the developer to improve the software.

With free giveaways like GOTD you get none of that - which is why on many occasions I have upgraded a GOTD version to a supported, upgradable, and less buggy version via BDJ.

If it wasn't for getting a "free install" of the latest version of something I'd never heard of before - I would probably have never tried the software - and likely not considered a purchase from BDJ.

GOTD is a giant carrot - giving users a pain free taste of the best the product has to offer - but usually updates follow, and the carrot starts to become stale - it becomes the "old version". For users who love the software, a purchase becomes an attractive option. BDJ makes that option even more tasty.

As for not promoting the latest version - but an older release, how many car dealers try to sell the latest model to a customer by taking them for a test drive in last years model?

If you purchased some takeaway - but then were invited to a friends place for tea - do you return the takeaway for a refund - because a "free option" has come up?

I'm glad to hear you decided to support Womble, and not insist on a refund because it appeared on GOTD a few weeks after appearing on BDJ. I think you will appreciate the fact also, should you need to reinstall - or when Womble decide to add new features or improve the product, and you are able to upgrade.

That's the difference between purchasing a full license or just getting a free install.

I support both sites, and I think for vendors to exclude one or the other will possibly take themselves off the radar when it comes to my own software purchasing choices.

Gautam Jain Hello JC M,

Upgrade from RecentX v2 to v3 is $19.95

Where as a full license here on 23rd Sep is $17.95. So if you already own RecentX v2, you might as well purchase RecentX v3 from here to same some $$$.

Adrian (& others), we appreciate your participation. But it would be nice if your discussion is only related to RecentX. As it will help other users and also improve our sales.

Adrian Williams Jason. - All good points & thanks for sharing your opinion. From my part at least, the topic is best laid to rest now.

Guatam - Apologies to you and your team for hijacking your post. Now lets get back to recentx3. I've set the history to full but still not much success in the history logging. Maybe others may wish to share their experiences, particularly if it's this feature you particularly like. I'll hopefully sort this out, here or outside this review space but it may be beneficial to outline how the history is obtained since many of us may be running history deleters etc. How do these programs impact on the accuracy of recentx3 ?
Does firefox history need to be enabled for example? Is there a link where these answers are readily available ?

gail f Hello-I had bought last time this was offered on Bits as 2.0 version--love this program! I upgraded to 3.0 but was VERY disappointed that my favorite functionality was removed in 3.0. In 2.0 you could change the settings to show websites visited in different periods of time, from the current day to it many weeks worth. In 3.0 it was simply frozan to the last 24 hours or something.

I complained to the developer who was very responsive and said that others had complained that the feature was removed and it would be fixed. They suggested I revert back to 2.0 which I did but 3.0 ran much better.

So, does anyone know if it has been fixed in the version offered here? thanks!

Gautam Jain Gail F,

Thanks for your feedback.

RecentX has all the history that your browsers have (IE, Firefox, Chrome & Opera).

RecentX shows the last 200 latest items by default. It doesn't restrict by number of hours.

We do realize that it is important to show the results by time. And we will surely launch a new build in couple of months that will show results by time.

Please do give us some time.

Gautam Jain Adrian,

RecentX must show all the history urls (if you have chosen "Full History"). Please send us a separate email regarding urls that were not listed and the browsers that you have installed.

Peter User This is an excellent programme. Highly recommended.

For those interested in checking an in-depth review , check out the Software Reviews, August 2008, on the NeatNetTricks web-site ( http://www.neatnettricks.com/ ).

I just upgraded to Version 3 , and it really was worth the price -- even though this is a great deal, I still think that I got great value for my investment.

I would recommend that you go for it -- at this price you can't lose, especially as still have time to try it first.

PS: I have no commercial links with the developers; this is an unsolicited opinion.

This is unquestionably an even greater deal.

David W RecentX is very useful. Also - I would HIGHLY recommend NoteZilla from the same folks - for keeping track of to-do items and planning your day. I also use NoteZilla for planning steps I need to do for simple projects on the job. NoteZilla is the best "sticky note" program I've ever used- and I've purchased many of them from other companies in the past.

carl thorpe I wholeheartedly recommend this and any other program developed by Conceptworld. RecentX saves me tons of time when I am working with multiple files for work. It lets me organize files in a hierarchical way and still get back to the documents I need very quickly. I also love that I can drag files from the RecentX window into email messages as attachments. The developer is also easily accessible when you have questions about their programs, even before purchasing a license.

I am a registered user of all of Conceptworld's programs, and I am not affiliated with them in any other way.

RecentX works on Windows 7 (both 32 bit and 64 bit).

If you are the *only* user between 2 computers, then you can purchase just a single user license and use it on both the computers. Please note that this policy is applicable to a maximum of 2 computers only.

Thanks for your appreciation.

Adrian Williams OK, here's the final update on the problem i've experianced with recentx not logging my firefox history.
It did monitor my IE8 history so i thought there must have been a problem with firefox only. This was traced to the fact I'd used a different profile to the standard one. Recentx was looking at a profile i wasn't using (ie the dafault profile).
So, if you're using proiles you may need to contact Gautam for a 'fix' or make a request for recentx to be able to see which profile is the active one. Now, my history is being monitored as expected :)

gail f Hello Gautam

Thanks for your comments. Just to clarify: I have 13 weeks of URLS in IE7 history....and your comments indicate that Recent X can show them all now? So you have restored the capability to show more than the last 200 sites? This key feature was removed in the move from 2.0 to 3.0 I cannot find anything on your site that addresses this.

I have been waiting months for this to be restored. Per an email from the developer: "We understand your concern completely. And we will surely add a way to see the list by "Last week", "Last 2 weeks", "Last month" etc. Please give us few weeks. In September we will update RecentX with this feature (or bring back this feature :) ). "

Thanks! Would love to reinstall 3.0, it runs better than 2.0!

Frank Stephens Unfortunately, no one's going to read the comments this late. Apart from the fact that I can't figure out why anyone running Vista or higher would want to use RecentX, since Vista, Windows Search 4 (download), and your browsers do this anyway, RecentX qualifies as EVIL MALWARE because it wipes historical and settings information from the Windows Registry when it executes.
Sep 23 2009 at 3:29pm Copy Link

Gautam Jain Dear Frank,

None of these desktop search software give you a separate list of recently accessed files, folders, programs. They list all the files available on your computer, which makes searching & choosing slow. You may argue that you can sort by "date modified" or "date accessed". Unfortunately these dates (especially date accessed) are not accurate in Windows. It doesn't work the way the user expects.

It is much faster to locate a document in RecentX because it separates "recent/favorite files" from "all files".

RecentX lets you quickly drag and drop document from its window to your email client. It is very fast.

Also, you can perform some basic file operations very easily without opening any folders. Copy from Files view and paste it in Folders view. Cool it is.

And there is no software that automatically tracks folders that you access in real time. Folder access via RecentX saves a lot of time. You can directly jump to the required folder.

RecentX gets all the bookmarks and history from IE, Firefox, Opera & Chrome. Can any of your desktop search software do this?

To do all the above, RecentX needs delete some cache data from the registry. This is just a trivial data which the user will never ever need. It does not do any harm to the system. So RecentX cannot be labeled as malware.

Thanks Frank.

I suggest that you use RecentX for some more time.

Gautam Jain

I was wondering if it is possible to turn off the Clipboard History function. RecentX indexs all files in your computer but shows top 250. To get your exact file you will just have to filter further by adding more keywords. The Recnt list is ordered based on Date Accessed. All list is ordered by Date Modified by default.

Clipboard monitoring can be disabled. Go to the Clipboard list and choose Options->Stop Monitoring from the menu.

Thanks @Petr, very sorry that we don't know all features of Listary. But we know that Listary doesn't have clipboard history, programs and websites history. Someone else here may throw more light to this.

Tags are simply group of files, folders etc. There s also smart tags which lists items based on keywords.

No, RecentX does not index content.

Ela S. After testing the trial, I would say - in comparison to Listary Pro:

Recent X is a great complement to it. As its name RecentX already alludes, strengths are the administration and fast way to recently opened files, folders, programs, websites and clipboards up to 500 (?) items). This is one of Listary's feature, but here it is limited to 10 items per list for files and folders only.

I like the neat interface and functions of RecentX, but would appreciate a better integration of its really useful sidebar into the Windows Explorer. Eg Listary puts its search and favorite bar at the bottom of the corresponding "Save to" dialogue window, access to favorites is provided by simple mouse click into the saving window.

Maybe the RecentX sidebar may dock here as well, or somewhere near the mouse pointer.

deanuk RecentX looks ideal for my needs. However, there is one problem which makes it difficult to use on my computer.

My laptop has a UHD 3840x2160 display and RecentX doesn't scale correctly. The quick access tabs at the top of the screen are tiny with no option to increase the size, & the Find & Recent columns overlap. Again with no option to resize the columns.

I know this is a minority issue. But with high resolution monitors becoming more common, this is something that need to addressed.

Unfortunately, I cannot buy a program that doesn't display correctly on my main computer. And it's a shame because other than this, the program works great and more than met my expectations.

Are there any plans for an imminent update that will fix this problem? Or do you have a beta version I can try that scales correctly on UHD displays?

Please send me screenshots of the sidebar and also areas which are not appropriate. You can email me to supportconceptworld.com.

Kelly Hamblin Unfortunately — on my system — RecentX lists only a small portion of recently opened files. I cannot understand how it choose the files it does and leaves out all the others.

The docs tab lists only .doc, .xls, or .pdf files. For it to show other file types, the types must be manually inserted in the box, and they don't stay there. When RecentX is opened again, the list has to be manually entered all over again. This seems a downgrade from previous versions.

Also the fact that it doesn't stay in place, but folds in on itself every time focus is switched to another program, is very inconvenient. Help file is online, so every time I tried to figure out if there is a simpler way or if there are settings that might make the application more useful, my browser would pop up.

Depending on what you do with your computer, this can be a nice application or not. Maybe your system is different. I'm using Win7 64-bit.

Hello Kelly, the older version also required the user to type the keywords. Like any search software, we need to type the keywords. You can of course create 'smart tags' for frequently used keywords. There is an "All" button next to Find which you need to click to search all your drives. You would probably find your files there. Please email us at supportconceptworld.com with some screenshots probably so that we can help you more in detail. Thanks. About the focus issue you were mentioning, if you press Escape before going to another program then this problem will not occur. We will fix this issue in upcoming September update. Mary Wilson I purchased this program the last time it was on sale. It is a very good program and I like it, but it needs some work.

The Clipboard is nice, but it does not allow for editing of clips. You state, "Just pick the text/image that you had copied an hour back and paste it again anywhere" Not sure how you can do this as I have multiple clips with the same name. This is no help when you have two or three with the same name. I have found I that I have to delete all of the clips out of the clipboard about every other day. Some times it is easy to do and at other days the system will not let me do it.

You also state that "you can say goodbye to your Favorites lists in your internet browsers". Currently, I found that the Websites program does not work at all. Not sure how to get it to work.

The program folder is hit or miss on it working. I have some programs that will not show up on the list. Trying to find them with search is also hit or miss. I wrote customer service once for help and never received a reply.

The folders works to some degree, but do not understand how it puts some of the folders on the list as been recently used when I never went to them.

Hopefully, you will fix these problems that I am writing about. It is a good program, but I am not giving up my other programs until all of the problems with Recent X have been fixed.

I don't have other drives attached at present. And yes, like I said, I do remember typing .rtf, wpd., and other file extensions into the older version, but once added, they stayed in place. Having to enter them every time is far too cumbersome.

I tried using Escape as you suggested, but the app disappears the same way as when I switch focus to another application.

Thanks Mary, your feedback is very useful.

When you move the mouse over a clipboard item, it shows an excerpt of it. So you can determine the content of the clip. Also, you can rename an item by right clicking or pressing F2 so that you can differentiate between the items.

The websites tab should show browser history from Chrome, Firefox, IE. Currently RecentX doesn't support Microsoft Edge.

If you can email me (supportconceptworld.com) the details about the program that RecentX did not find, I can investigate. Kindly send me program name, its location, whether installed or portable etc.

RecentX automatically monitors folders access. But some programs also access folders like an user would do. So RecentX adds those folders also sometimes to its list.

Thanks again :)

JW I went to buy this program, since it appears to be cheaper to buy it anew here than to upgrade from v3 to v4 through the website upgrade process!

However, when it comes to paying for it with PayPal, the normal payment service adds its VAT charge on (as normal) BUT THEN PayPal (which now chooses to make the transaction in US$, instead of the GBP price given by the payment service) then goes and adds on VAT - again!!
Now I know the UK economy is in poor shape after the Brexit affair, but I'm blowed if I'm going to pay the taxes (on taxes!) twice!!

Gary Smith On the developer website for What's New (http://www.conceptworld.c...X/WhatsNew), the title of the page is "What's new in RecentX 4 & 5" but there is no information for version 4, only version 5. Where is a changelog for all versions leading up to the current version? Also, your other products have a What's New for the latest version, but not for previous versions.

In order to promote your products to serious customers, you need to publish an accurate detailed Changelog. Otherwise, potential customers wonder why the version number needed to change by a Major number at the same time you state "Upgrades to future versions of the software will be free for minor versions only" (in the Fine Details).

I know that you offer a free upgrade to customers that purchased within a short time of a new version number release but by jumping to the next Major version numbers often, you also increase the number of customers that will have to pay for upgrades.

In contrast, Open Source developers do not have the same incentive, and thus, their minor numbers generally increase slowly, sometimes over several years before a Major version is changed.

@Gary Smith, thanks for your feedback. The change log link is right on the download page: http://www.conceptworld.c...ionHistory

We have jumped to next major version on purpose. Because we have worked extensively on improving its performance, intelligence and stability. Most of the work in this version is not straight away visible (less of UI changes) unless one uses RecentX for sometime. So that's the reason we listed even version 4 features. One of the reasons for listing version 4 features was that many users stayed with version 3. So we wanted to club both version features on one page.

Gary Smith @Gautam Jain,
Thanks for explaining.

Please understand I am not intending on being critical of the product or its price/value. As far as marketing and perception by potential customers, big jumps to the next major version number can be counterproductive.

>We have jumped to next major version on purpose

That is my point, and the reason for questioning the jump. The minor version numbers for version 4 ended at 4.0.16, then the big jump to version 5.0. You fixed some bugs, added minor features, and improved performance and intelligence (stability would be under fixes). Many developers would have jumped to version 4.1.0 instead. It really has little to do with the UI.

>One of the reasons for listing version 4 features was that many users stayed with version 3. So we wanted to club both version features on one page.

Yes, and that is why I asked about the Version History for versions before version 4. The full history of all versions make a much better impression, especially for corporate sales.

I have to make recommendations on software based on several individual components. When I see things like big jumps, and previous history is not published, I have to count those facts into the formula. It is sad to see great products miss out over things like this.

Bits du jour often has products with lifetime upgrades and very generous discounts; those products are selling like hot cakes, and they remain in business, so it isn't hurting them to weigh in the factor of ensuring customers are well taken care of into the future. Those customers don't mind if the developer jumps to a major version number soon after a previous major number, but when a product upgrades are limited to minor version numbers only, but the product soon jumps to the next major number, it is a warning to corporate buyers and individuals as well.

Marek User The features are impressive.
I downloaded trial version and it works well except for one point. I set the file explorer external program to "Directory Opus V12 (64-bit)" in the preferences of this software.
When I right click on a folder in the list then select "Explore Here", it opens Directory Opus but does not open the selected directory.
Is this the issue with DOpus or with RecentX?
This is the reason that may stop me from acquiring it, but I wish it can be resolved.

It works well with file save dialog, when a location is selected in RecentX - it jumps to that location. It would have been great if it can jump to a location selected in DOpus.

Where does it store all it's internal data?
Can the destination of the storage be specified by the user to be on another internal drive?
I would lose all data plus configuration if my C drive fails.

Can the configuration be saved/restored? I cannot see this option.

Hopefully I can get clarification of the issue above
before this offer expires.

Thanks Marek User

Can you please send me the command line that you have given for Dopus in RecentX Preferences (Advanced tab)? Please email to supportconceptworld.com instead of replying in BDJ.

Data is stored under %appdata%\Conceptworld\RecentX folder. This location can be changed (though not directly). The Windows registry needs to be edited a little bit to change the location.

You just have to take backup of the data files in the above folder to save and restore the data & configuration.

Chris OK, I updated from 4 to 5 and the tab on the screen doesn't almost draw up out of view like older versions. also it wants to stay on top as well.

Nevermind, I figured it out by right clicking the sidebar and changing the options.

Marek User Received prompt reply from support. To make it work with Directory Opus, the path in "Advanced' -> "Preferences" ->Advanced" -> "File Manager" should be set to:
":\Program Files\GPSoftware\Directory Opus\dopusrt.exe" /cmd Go "%1"

Default data storage location can be changed by modifying registry entry:
"HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Conceptworld\RecentX\Settings" by setting a different directory path.

This answers my questions. Thank you Conceptworld.

Peter Dr I just want to say that I have been using RecentX for many years. It is one of my top ten indispensable programs. I use it dozens of times each day, to access the files of my clients. I do have an organized directory structure, but each individual is necessarily several layers down in my virtual file cabinets. RecentX has saved me my purchase price many times over.

And if ever you have questions, the support given by the Concept-Worlders is tops.

Highly recommended.

Peter

PS: I have absolutely no connection with the developers, except for being a completely satisfied user.

Petr @ Marek User & @Gautam Jain, I have 4 pre-sale questions:

#1. I purchased RecentX, but now have a new laptop with Win10 Pro installed. My old laptop died. Can I use your upgrade link to get 50% off and do a fresh install of your latest version of RecentX on my new laptop?

#2. I also have Directory Opus (latest version) installed. Did this resolve your issue?

" To make it work with Directory Opus, the path in "Advanced' -> "Preferences" ->Advanced" -> "File Manager" should be set to:
":\Program Files\GPSoftware\Directory Opus\dopusrt.exe" /cmd Go "%1"

Default data storage location can be changed by modifying registry entry:
"HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Conceptworld\RecentX\Settings" by setting a different directory path. "

#3. I have been waiting for Tabbles to be featured here at BitsDuJour. It's on sales today. Will RecentX work with Tabbles?

#4. I also have Listary installed, which is activated by pressing Ctrl twice. Will RecentX co-exist nicely with Listary?

M User I just try RecentX ... a little bit strange.
It starts with a full list (can I start 'blanco/clean?') Yes, I did a Rebuild of both Indexing Rebuilds in the options.

Next ... even with Bookmarks disabled under options and after that Rebuild + restart of RecentX it still shows Bookmarked sites from one of the browsers?? They disappear for 2 seconds and there back ... ?

Now, when I'm surfing it doesn't log the history?? Yes again, the history is enabled.

The #-columm on the left in the Website-tab is not resizable?

Strange ...

M User Not so amused ... a great enthousiasm for RecentX here but ...

- It only capture web history from (OLD!) IE en Chrome. No Firefox (??) at least not the most currect FF 51.0.1 - No Vivaldi .... hello Conceptworld? I use Vivaldi and FF for the most. Where can I change that - not in Options. Very weird.

- I'm a high-end IT-er for more than 3 decades and for searching I use tools like Lookeen and Archivarius 3000. One of the benefits? Preview of files, not a tiny thumbnail like RecentX. RecentX: no preview for docs, ... Both Lookeen and Archivarius 3000 have also content search in documents. Another league.

- Like said: I unchecked Bookmarks, but there still there. Whatever I try. Bookmarks only from (never used) Internet Explorer. Come on Conceptworld? How can I removed these and import those from Firefox or Vivaldi??

- All #-columns on the left are not resizible, so after #99 you don't see the full number.

- Privacy. Why can't I removed results in one move? This tool is a little dangerous for the privacy.

+ The connection with Dopus Pro works ok, without changing the path.

I think there is a lot of homework ...

Petr @RecentX & Gautam Jain, Like M User, I use the Vivaldi browser (chromium based) as my primary browser. I also use FireFox, Chrome, GhostBrowser (chromum based), Comodo Dragon and Comodo IceDragon.

#1. >> I would certainly expect Firefox to be supported?
#2. >> Vivaldi is the best browser for power users, please add support

#3. I don't expect full content search, as I use X1 for that purpose. RecentX, I assume, creates just a small light index of file names, folder names and tags, correct?

Thanks for your detailed reply.

Tortuga @Gautam Jain, Hello

Is there a "Family License" at a reasonable price?
How much would that be?
I already asked this question some time ago, you said you were going to consider it.
Nowadays with each of us having several PCs, Laptops, Tablets ...
Even w today's promo, it is difficult to justify the cost of 3 or 4 Licenses to cover them all ...

geo User @Gautam Jain: I tried the demo version and unfortunately I have things not working right.
1. Firefox usage is not showing up correctly--not usable for FFox

2.Not all recently open programs show up--many are not shown.

3.File and folder seems to also be spotty----many not showing up

4. Clipboard seems to be OK

Some of the items shown in the file, folder, programs seem to be from many months ago or even a year ago.
How do I clear everything and force a rebuild of the program scanned (indexed) data?
Based on these findings I could not possibly go ahead with a purchase.
Maybe I am doing something wrong.
This is on a Win7 64.

M User Last thing for here Gautam : as a pro high-end IT-er my software is always up to date. No nightly builds, betas or dev. versions. just FF 51.0.1 but it din't show up in RecentX. Only IE and Chrome. Not FF, not Vivaldi, not Opera, not Edge ...? Sorry, but this is a giant fail. This is no 'Recent' as you must use IE (omg!) or Chrome.

Btw: tested on 4 computers! And geoUser and the others above: also no log in FF. This is not correct.

All thje points thar geoUser posted are the same here (!)

1. Firefox usage is not showing up correctly--not usable for FFox

2.Not all recently open programs show up--many are not shown.

3.File and folder seems to also be spotty----many not showing up

4. Clipboard seems to be OK

Clipboard is the only thing here that works correct. But I have a whole bunch of other clipboardprogs, so it's useless in this state of service. There are a whole lot of 'holes' in the other modules, that are nog logged. So, what's the point of this program?

Mary Wilson I have been using 5.0 since the beginning of the year. It is a good program and I have had no major problems with it. I would request that you upgrade the Clipboard program as it is very basic. It is good, but you are unable to do anything but copy and paste. I own another clipboard program called ClipMate program. It is very much like your clipboard. The main difference is that you can edit a clip.

Aug 9 2017 at 6:35am Copy Link

John User I find the terms in the Fine Print a little contradictory. Specifically, they first state:

"RecentX is licensed per user..."

This is perfect for me as I spend six months of the year in one location and use two computers and the other six months in a different location using a different two computers.

So the next line says:

"Each license allows installation on a single computer and a laptop"

So, that would require me to purchase another license unless I wanted to do what the next line states every six months:

"Transfer of a license to another owned computer is allowed"

I tried this program the last time it was offered here and I liked it. I would purchase it, but not under the specified terms. IMO you really need to come up with true "licensed per user" plan, or, as previously suggested, a Family plan.

It is a very good and useful program.

Gautam Jain @MunNg, minors updates are free. Major upgrades have 30%-50% discount.

@JohnUser, Thanks for your positive feedback about the program. Yes, each license can be installed on up to 2 computers if you are the only user. So you will need to buy more licenses for every 2 computers. Yes, transfer is also possible if it is convenient to you.

@Mustang. Thanks :) Yes. Clipmate etc are dedicated software for clipboard monitoring. RecentX currently has the most basic features required by a clipboard monitoring software. Yes, we do have plans to add advanced features. But unfortunately do not have a roadmap. You can disable clipboard monitoring alone in RecentX to continue to use Clipmate. So that you can take advantage of other features of RecentX. Go to Clipboard tab and click on Options button to disable clipboard monitoring.

Tortuga @Gautam Hello :)
I have 2 questions
1. Do we have to uninstall an old version, before installing the new one ?
a) If so, is this valid for *ALL* major versions, or just when installing a new one over a very OLD one?
b) Can we save the old DBs, then integrate to the new vs?

2. I didn't realize there is a Portable vs (Yeah!!).
a) Can I put RecentX Portable on my PortableApps HDD & register it w my RegKey?
b) Does the Portable stay Registered, or does one need to re-Register each time one plugs the HDD into a different rig?

Thank you in advance for any help

Mary Wilson I have had this program for some time and like it. My only complaint is the clipboard. It is nice that it saves everything you copy. I don't like the fact that you can not edit the data that is in it. Would prefer that the clipboard worked more like EditPro as you can change and edit large amount of data.

Regarding Mary Wilson post, I didn't know the newer RecentX versions also monitors the Clipboard (I still have an old version installed...)
I bought a dedicated app for Clipboard, so don't want any monitoring, interference or data accumulation for that.
Is it possible to turn it off ?
In fact, I would only want to monitor Files-Folders-Programs.
How can the others be turned On or Off, as needed.

Thank you

Thanks @Tortuga
RecentX installer will automatically uninstall the previous version while installing the new version. Valid for all versions. Major or minor. For minor updates, you can save the old DBs. Infact, newer version will automatically handle this. Whether to reuse existing db or create new ones.

Since the data in RecentX is all specific to local machine, it cannot be 100% portable. So for this reason, you will need to re-register on every system. Yes, you can copy on your pen drive and use it. But not sure how compatible it is with PortableApps. Haven't checked.

Tortuga @Gautam Hello again :)
Thank you VERY much for clarifying previous queries !!
I haven't installed the nw vs yet, (will do this later today at home), so I hv more questions:
1. In older vs, in order for the window to stay on screen, instead of folding, one could tick 'Stay on Top' instead of 'Auto Hide'.
Been reading all old posts here, in .8.2016, someone says the window folds as soon as it loses focus. Is this option not available anymore?!
Also, instead of always staying 'On Top', is there a way for it to STAY on screen, but NOT *on top* of everything else?
If not yet possible, would you consider this request, please?

2. So, I am thinking my ideal setup is:
a) Install on the principle OS of my multi-boot tower, then use the Portable as/if/when needed, on the other boots or on my Laptop.
b) You said bc of the Data it collects on ea system, it cannot be 100% portable...
But, doesn't the app collect this data *inside* the portable folder of the Portable HDD in which the program resides? DBs of ea system on different folders of course (one for ea system). Do you mean the Portable vs creates folders in the OS's own 'Users' folder of ea system it visits?!

I've bought many apps that are Portable, I registered them once, it 'remembers', and it stays Registered no matter which system it's plugged in. Plus all Data created is all self contained.
It's very convenient indeed !! Please consider adopting this functionality.

Thank you in advance
Peace
