Dave, Recordzilla works in Win7, and XP is still the version of Windows with the largest install base.

DrTeeth Looks sweet. Pity that after first release, took 11 months for the first update. That sort of delay worries me. Will likely buy, but will have to do much more testing than normal - don't want to be stuck with a bug for months LOL.

8 runs is not enough to evaluate. I need and expect to have unlimited uses in a given time frame. If you must limit the number of runs, I'd prefer it if you were more generous. Watermark the vids if you must.

Video looked poor - like an inkjet print made with a printer with blocked nozzles.

There are several things you can do:

1) Use a smaller output size (click on video, uncheck original size)
2) AVI: Use other video compression codec eg. Xvid MPEG-4
3) WMV: Use wmv profile WMV 9 for broadband; NTSC; 1400 kbps
4) FLV: Set the video bitrate higher

Catherine McClarey I'll want to look at some comparative reviews online, and probably also some YouTube examples of gameplay video captured with Recordzilla. I'd especially want to see comparisons of Recordzilla vs. Camstudio or Bandicam (the 2 programs I've used so far for PC game capture).

Ken Hill I recently got Total Screen Recorder Gold through here but found out later that I had to disable hardware acceleration to get video to record. Does anyone know if that is the case with this software?

Rick NG Hi Ken,

You don't need to disable the hardware acceleration in order to record. If you are getting a blank video recorded, you can check the Options in Recordzilla to disable the hardware acceleration.

Martin Satinsky I am interested in Recordzilla primarily to record internet transmissions via Sling Box to the Sling Player software on my PCs. How is recording these programs best accomplished?

Also, I would like to set up the Recordzilla recording for a delayed start and a defined cutoff when I am away from my PC. Can Recordzilla do this?

Cheryl Rutherford Ken Hill: I also purchased Total Screen Recorder Gold and should not have. I asked for a refund and they gave it to me THE SAME DAY.
It never worked on my Quad Core HP. Sorry to say this, but it was simply awful software. I wish I would have tried it first. Ask for a refund if you do not like the software.

I am going to try this one first before I buy it. I LEARNED MY LESSON ;-))

Well, I have just tried this one and it is not bad, but it still does not beat CamStudio. It has minimal settings and a countdowner, but you can not make the Recordzilla main screen smaller (resize) so it is within view, yet out of the way of the recording area. I did not like that about it. The video output was not that clear and I have a 1080p monitor. So, I think I will skip this one.

VLM Will RecordZilla download streaming audio and video content? (Actually download a file, if available.) Or will it only record whatever is playing here and there on the screen? I had a similar experience to the one Cheryl Rutherford describes, only with DownloadStudio. So I am looking for some nice software in this category ... IF it works.

Catherine McClarey I appreciate hearing the comparison with CamStudio, Cheryl Rutherford. I'm always interested in learning about inexpensive video capture software for my retrogaming videos for YouTube (because, nice as Camtasia sounds, who on the consumer level can afford a $300 software program?); however, I haven't yet heard about what advantages Recordzilla might have over CamStudio or Bandicam (the programs I use). Recordzilla sounds interesting, but I don't truly have a need for it yet.

You may also use Recordzilla to schedule a recording to start and stop at a specified time.

Which video format did you record as? You may use a higher video bitrate or use Divx as the AVI video compressor, this will greatly improve the recording quality.

Petr I am looking for a screen recorder that enables me to record webinars and to hit a button to add bookmarks. Ideally, the bookmark would also allow me to name the bookmark and add some notes. Any chance Recordzilla can do that?

The text says: Recordzilla lets you capture anything that's happening on your computer screen - video, audio, and games - and gives you the ability to save your video as an AVI, WMV, SWF, or FLV file.

If you have software that can edit any of these - I personally use Sony paid program but you can look up at VideoHelp and see what is there - many freeware programs available:

Alexander Deliyannis Fred, thanks for the suggestions and link. Indeed, I expect that there are quite a few tools out there that can do the trick. That said, I would appreciate a response from Recordzilla's developer. I imagine that Recordzilla has some kind of "privileged" native format which it can save in better quality, and that the developer has already tried some video editing tools that might work well with that format and complement Recordzilla. From my experience, working to and fro with different formats often does not provide ideal results.

John Gee License states free updates within 12 months. Their FAQ states they will email you with update details. I bought in Oct last year and have not heard from them about V1.2 availability, and have emailed them for Upgrade request. Still waiting......... Grrrr.

Recordzilla does not support bookmarking feature. You can somehow use the keyboard button to control the video recording ( eg. pause, stop, resume ) and save each of the recording with meaningful file name (manually or automatically)

Sir Gyush Alexander: if you need post production, skip RecordZilla and read up on BB Flashback (while Std and Pro are quite costly, the Express version is free) or Camtasia (which, unfortunately, costs an arm and a leg. And possibly a kidney, too).
I use BB FB Std for training documentation, and it works like a dream.

That would depend on which video format and codec you've selected for recording. If you need to record lengthy video, you may use WMV video format and there is no limit.

Eustace Phenackertiban I have downloaded and installed the trial, and I would agree with the dottech review referenced above. It is overpriced for what it does, has definite usability issues (the program does not get out of the way when setting custom record area[??]) and, as the reviewer noted, it does not record what you hear in the speakers. I tried every configuration available, and was unable to get it to record system sound. Since one of my primary applications for such an app is to record videos off the screen, that alone is a showstopper for me. Sorry, Softdiv. Nice try, but it needs a good deal more work to be ready for prime time...

Well, yeah, that would be fine, except for those of us running a Windows OS later than Vista. It seems that Microsoft has bowed to the DRMers, and "Stereo Mix" is no longer available on most Win7 machines, including my Toshiba laptop. Apowersoft resolves this by installing their own line driver to work with their application, which works fine. Unfortunately, even selecting that device in Recodzilla's interface does not provide recording of speaker audio. I really wanted this to work, seriously, especially when the offer was half-price, but I had to pass because of this drawback. Sorry...

Thanks for your message. The latest version 1.5 is a stable release and well supported on the latest Windows updates including Windows 10. Yes, there will be a new version release on the second half of this year. Upgrade will be free.

this looked interesting to start with, but then I watched the promo video. The video on youtube, said it was from 10 years ago !

This out of date state was also demonstrated by the fact that they offered only: *.avi, *.wmv, *.swf and *.flv file formats to record to - nowhere in the video did you see that *.mp4 was on offer, which you would normally expect to find.

So I am just wondering, how long since this program has been updated ? Does it still only record to those same old file formats ?
