Vincent Banks Can your program recover a key for Steganos VPN software and Microsoft Windows XP Pro ??
Oct 22 2007 at 3:06am Copy Link
Recover Keys Vincent,

I have added Steganos VPN, please update your application script ("Help" = "Update..."). After update complete you will find it in the list.
And yes it will work for all versions of MS Windows

Brad Isaac This looks like a very helpful application. I am wondering how it would work to add different applications. I have many applications that aren't on your list. Thanks, - Brad
Oct 25 2007 at 3:52am Copy Link
Recover Keys Brad,

I can add more programs. Please give me list of programs you want to me add into RK.
Recover Keys - Oct 25 2007 at 5:52am Copy Link
Brad Isaac I could give you a short list today, but after purchase, what would be the procedure for adding new programs?

Do I just email you?

Oct 25 2007 at 6:13am Copy Link
Recover Keys Brad,

Yes, please email me that list. After adding programs to RK I will made update which will be downloaded via its Auto Updater ("Help: => "Update..." ). So you will not need to reinstall or buy new version.

But, I don't guarantee that I will be able to support all software, since some product keys can be highly encrypted, protected and I will need to contact their owners for help.

Bob Hughes Brad,

Does your program support retrieving the license keys for Windows Server Standard 2003 and Windows Small Business Server Standard 2003 ?

Oct 25 2007 at 7:37am Copy Link
Recover Keys Bob,

It should work with all Windows versions. Anyway, I have tested it only on 2000, XP, 2003 Server Pro and Vista Ult. You can download demo (trial) version and if it appears on the list and show first 4 characters of the key it will definitely work ok.

Bob Hughes Ostap,

Thanks for your reply. Does installation of this software require the reboot of Windows 2003 Server?

Oct 25 2007 at 8:19am Copy Link
Recover Keys Bob,

No. Reboot is not needed.

FYI: Since Windows 2000, reboot is actually not needed after install, in 90% of cases log off\login is enough.

Dennis Ralph I live in Victoria, British Columbia. It is now 11:17pm, on THURSDAY OCTOBER 25TH, 2007. It says you can purchase RECOVER KEYS for $11.99 on October 25th, but I don't seem to be able to. WHY NOT?
I don't see anywhere on your site mentioning any time zone restrictions?
Oct 25 2007 at 7:20pm Copy Link
Nico Westerdale All our times are in Eastern Standard time, that's why we have a countdown on the active deal page. If you would like to contact the developer at the link above they may well honor the discount. We've also added 'Notify Me' buttons to every deal so that nobody misses one due to time zone differneces.

Neil X After it exports the keys, then what? Can it re-import them to a new installation? Won't that encourage piracy?
Jun 15 2008 at 5:59pm Copy Link
Recover Keys This is simply for backup your own activation keys, for example in case of HDD failure you will not lost your serials.

Anyway, why it should encourage piracy? Only if you will share them between friends or internet.

Han Tendeloo I sent an email twice, first time on 2008-06-19, but never received a reply:

I bought your product yesterday. I have one comment and one complaint.

Disappointingly few programs are detected. Major expensive programs from Nuance/Scansoft and a host of smaller ones remain invisible. Not very useful this way. All very disappointing.

My OS is MS Windows Vista Home Premium (OEM). In the demo, before certification, indeed Vista was one of the shown programs. However, after certification Vista has disappeared altogether and MS Windows XP is shown instead. XP has never been installed on my computer. Also the key does not match the one which is displayed on the bottom of my (Dell) computer. WHAT WENT WRONG?

Kind regards,

Han Tendeloo

Clive Taylor Very disappointing programme.

Downloaded the trial version and it found the reg details of 16 programmes - including two that had been uninstalled!

It missed 32 registered programmes, including items such as PowerPoint.

Quickly uninstalled it.

Recover Keys Clive,

It will be near to impossible to support any program in the world since there are millions of them, and every is unique.
Here is the list of supported programs:

If you didn't find programs you want to recover their keys just let me know and we will try to add it. Mostly we're adding programs by users requests.

Regarding PowerPoint. It is included in Microsoft Office package and it use the same activation key.

Peter Dr Hello Key People:

Can the 40% reduction be extended to the Basic version? Or is it only available for a single licence?

Thank you.
Feb 21 2013 at 6:15am Copy Link
Recover Keys 40% discount is for all of them, including Basic license
Recover Keys - Feb 21 2013 at 6:31am Copy Link
Joe M I am confused. You mentioned above that the license is lifetime which I understand that future updates or upgrades would be free.
But in the "The Fine Print" tab it states: Upgrades to future versions of the software will be free for minor versions only. For versions after that, upgrades will require additional payment, which will be discounted.

So please clarify what you mean by "Lifetime Subscription"?
Feb 21 2013 at 10:55am Copy Link
Recover Keys Current version of software is 6.0 - if you will buy now you will receive all minor updates only for free. But if we will release new version 7.0 with brand all new features - you will not be able to get it for free, but for upgrade price (usually 50% of full price). This in no way means that 6.0 version will stop working or something - you will be able to use it as much as you want.

Imagine this is same as you will buy Windows 7 - once purchased - all updates, service packs, etc you get for free - but you cannot get WIndows 8 for free - that's whole new product already.
Recover Keys - Feb 21 2013 at 11:23am Copy Link
Danny Best people, often ' update ' and ' upgrade ' mixed up confused! "Updates" is always a small improvement or change within the existing version. All "updates" is always the current version for free! ' Upgrade ' is a new version, this should we often upgrade price (you) pay (unless it's a Lifetime Upgrades version is!), because a new version is actually a new product!

Bill Payne Is the downloadable trial version a fully functional program or does it have limitations (other than the obvious need for a time limitation)?

Feb 24 2013 at 3:36am Copy Link
Bertie Brummel The "Fine Print" terms seem contradictuous to me:

"Recover Keys is licensed per user, so if more people are going to use Recover Keys you will need to purchase additional copies.

Each license allows installation on 1 computer, but Recover Keys may not be used at exactly the same time on each of them."

Licensed per user usually means, I can install on several PCs as long as I am the only user. The second half of the quotation is pure nonsense IMHO. 1 computer ---- each of them??

Keith Norton I am trying to decide if I should buy multiple licenses or the portable version for my dozen machines. It is my impression that the software is supposed to be able to scan other computers in the network. However, the trial version only finds this computer on my network, none of the others. If that feature actually works, I presume I could buy one license and scan all of my machines on the network. Alternatively, I would buy multiple licenses to install a copy on each machine. Finally, I presume the portable license could be used individually on each machine.
Feb 24 2013 at 10:41am Copy Link
Recover Keys Keith,

Take a look at this article:

Also, take into account that portable license doesn't support network scan of any kind.

Techtoysavvy I buy a lot of software, especially on BDJ. Recover Keys found 20-30 titles. I have far more titles. I could see how this would be useful for major titles but it is less useful for the smaller ISVs.

I will have to give it a pass. I want something that can show keys for all programs listed by Revo or Windows as installed.

For me, the safest method is to export the list of installed programs and manually add keys from your emails.
Feb 24 2013 at 11:05pm Copy Link
Recover Keys Prasad,

Unfortunately, what you asking for is technical impossible. From our FAQ:

Q: I have hundreds of programs installed, but Recover Keys found only 10 product keys, why?

A: First of all how many of these hundreds programs actually have products key? How many of them are free? Secondly, there are billions of programs in the world and it would be impossible to support every program, since each program is storing its product key in unique way and place. Currently Recover Keys supports more than 3600+ popular programs and it got a biggest list in compare with our competitors which don't even support half of our list.

Ota C Hi Chester,

I have no questions. I just wanted to let you know it's great to see true pros who answer every single question in real time. I especially like the textbook-like v7, v8 / Win7, Win8 comparison.

If I needed this, your answers alone would have assured me of your company's reliability/trustworthiness and, subsequently, the fact your software simply has to be reliable/trustworthy too. Actually, let me admit this: I was just considering buying RK even though I already own an alternative solution! I was only considering it for a moment but I WAS considering it nonetheless. :-)

Well done, you've just confirmed that personalised marketing indeed does have the power to sell ice to... (I'm trying to stay politically correct here without sounding ridiculous by changing the old saying).

VLM Thank you. What about my question about portable installations? (presently about 5 comments back in the list :)
Aug 30 2013 at 9:42am Copy Link
Recover Keys VLM,

I think you're correct. But that's really depends on each particular software.

From wikipedia: "A portable application does not leave its files or settings on the host computer, which may be convenient or required if you have no administrator privileges on a computer. Typically the application does not write to the Windows registry or store its configuration files (such as an INI file) in the user's profile; instead, it stores its configuration files in the program's directory. Another requirement, since file paths will often differ on changing computers due to variation in Windows drive letter assignments, is the need for applications to store them in a relative format."

Will Recover Keys work recover product key from portable application? Most likely not. Since, there is no way to determine where application is installed/copied (as it does not write anything into registry/programs files/App Data). Also, I believe that most commercial software which have portable versions doesn't use product keys, doesn't store them, or even if they do store them - it would be settings file(s) next to main executable.

Kenneth Bates Hi,
The extent of the scan and speed was very impressive. I have 3 operating systems configured into a multi-boot format and my computer dates back to the beginning of MS Vista - I have installed the program into Win7 x64 and the program scanned the 3 setups in about one minute producing (about) 8 pages of serial numbers. I have not physically checked any yet but the appear to be in line with what I expected. I have just one query:- Would I be allowed to install the program on one of the x32 systems on my same computer? The reason for this is simple - one never knows which system is going to fail first!!! If I need to do a reinstall of Win7 x64 and did not happen to have a hard copy of the key to a program installed there since my last scan, I would be stitched up!
Feb 5 2014 at 3:12am Copy Link

Yes, license is per PC - per user. So, if you have 2 OSs installed on 1 PC - you can install it on both with 1 license.

Recover Keys Tortuga,

1. RK 8.0 is currently in development - but I can't say yet when it is going to be released. Hopefully before summer.
2. Usually within minor version changes we just fix bugs, small issues and we're expanding/editing our database of supported software - so there are not so much to write in the change log, while major updates are full of new features and change log can be found here:
3. Not really, Chester and Ostap is the same person (me) :)

_*_ If purchased today and you release version 8 in about 4-6 months, will that constitute additional payment?
If so, what will users pay to upgrade to version 8 when released this summer?

Feb 5 2014 at 8:36am Copy Link
Recover Keys No, recent customers of course will get update for free. Those who purchased 1 year ago and before that will have to upgrade (if they want to too). And price of course will be much lower for existing customers
Recover Keys - Feb 5 2014 at 8:41am Copy Link
_*_ @Recover Keys, you may want to update the information in "The Fine Print" area on Bits.

It currently reads, "Upgrades to future versions of the software will be free for minor versions only. For versions after that, upgrades will require additional payment, which will be discounted."

Your response reads as if the policy is all updates/upgrades within a year after purchase are free. After 1 year they are paid.

Or, are you doing something special here on Bits for this promotion only?

I am unsure of the typical policy for upgrades.

Feb 5 2014 at 8:45am Copy Link
Dana McIntyre If we purchase can we send in the list of programs your product did not find licenses for ? My "deep scan" (using the demo version) is 2-3 times longer than the main scan result list. I would prefer to see those programs and their results included in the main scan results.
Feb 5 2014 at 12:55pm Copy Link
Recover Keys Dear Dana,

There is ability to do so. When launching Recover Keys, select "Advanced" = "Shotgun-mode scan". It will generate detailed report similar to "deep scan" which you can send us. We will process it and add missing software to our database.
Recover Keys - Feb 5 2014 at 1:19pm Copy Link
Recover Keys _*_,

In our "order FAQ" we have following text:

Q: What's the upgrade policy?
A: Any updates released within the same Major version is provided free of cost. If we'll add a drastic amount of features then we may up the version number and the cost of the upgrade will be nominal and will be determined at that time.

I mentioned 1 year in the reply above as in average we make Major update once a year. But not every year. Sometimes new version is not "better enough" to qualify for paid upgrade and we leave for free to existing customers. We want to make it reasonable and fair.

In any case, version 7.0 will not stop working if you will not want to upgrade to latest 8.0 in the future, if you will not find new features useful enough to pay for.

Sorry, cannot buy until it finds the software that Recover Key claims that it can find. I hope the deal is extended till at least another day so that I can figure out if it is useful for me. It's no good if it can't find even the most common of the software like Microsoft Office.

Recover Keys Anil,

Office has just 1 product key for all it's products. Don't expect it to show key for each Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc. Furthermore, not all versions of MS Office are supported. For instance Office 2013 is not supported, since it doesn't store it's product key anywhere in the system. Some versions of Office 2013 (depending on how you got it, retail, internet, partners, OEM, etc) might work, but most of them will not.

In a nutshell: this is not Recover Keys bug, if product key does not exist stored anywhere on your hard-drive.

Recover Keys Tortuga,

There were 9 updates since release of version 7.0 (most of them database related, as database grew - we renewed RK). Isn't this enough?

We used to have auto-updater for our database, but users complained and got paranoid when their firewall triggered when RK tried to connect to the internet. Some users got afraid that their sensitive data might be transfered somewhere - and we cannot blame them, as there are lots of nasty things on the internet nowadays. Eventually, we decided to remove auto-updater to make RK absolutely internet connection independent.

Preston Mitchell Sounds Like Recover Keys Could Be a Lifesaver! BUT ONE QUESTION, pls.

What if one or more of the over 300 software titles installed on my PC is 'overlooked' by Recover Keys? Can I contact you to add that software title to the Recover Keys 'database'?

BTW...potential issue! I ran across a relatively new licensing system by a Nalpeiron Ltd. This 'Nalpeiron License Management' system imposes exceedingly harsh restrictions and tough controls. Has Recover Keys experienced any issues recovering licenses and/ or activation codes / keys from a software using Nalpeiron?

I just finished building a custom Windows 8 PC from scratch. Assembling the PC from parts was very comparison to reactivating my software licenses. I am literally writing dozens of software vendors begging them to reactivate licenses that were paid for. Some don't reply. MY POINT IS: If Recover Keys can save a person from the aforementioned misery, the cost of your software is dirt cheap!
Feb 6 2014 at 12:19pm Copy Link
Recover Keys Preston,

No matter how big our database will be of course we will never be able to add each software in the world. Some software doesn't even use product keys for activation, some encrypt them, some store only hash of product key and some do not store any registration info at all. Each software is unique in storing registration information. Most common place would be Windows Registry, but RK also looks into specific INI, XML, Text, binary files, SQLite, Interbase, Access databases, protected storage and lot other places.

We constantly update our database and of course based on user requests we add new software. There is also small feature to help us, integrated into RK called "Shotgun mode scan". When launching RK, select "Advanced" = "Shotgun-mode scan". It will generate detailed report similar to "deep scan" which you can send us. We will process it and add missing software to our database.

As for Nalpeiron, I'm not really familiar with this software.
And thank you very much for positive words about RK!

Tortuga @Ostap, Thank you again for your reply
Might well be that there were 9 updates, I can't say, as there is no changelog!
I am aware of only one update since I bought it last August, the one in October.
Is there a newer one I don't know about?
Well, maybe my mistake was to buy the app at that time, at mid-cycle?...
I do buy A LOT of software, always try to encourage development, specially from independent Devs
Anyway, my question is, are customers who bought it August.2013 going to receive an update before the next major version? If there is no update in view, will the next version be included, since this will be within 1 year of the date of purchase. Most companies will include at least 1 year of updates & upgrades
Feb 6 2014 at 5:39pm Copy Link
Preston Mitchell @ Rep for Recover Keys -- TY VM for a Swift Reply! But...

Fair enough answer. There is an incredible number of ways that a developer can rig his licensing system. So, it would be unrealistic to expect Recover Keys to recover license keys from every software in the world.

I noted that Recover Keys has not kept up with the recent versions of onONE Perfect Photo Suite versions 5.5.4, 6.1, 7.5, and 8.1. Your last supported version is v5.

onONE has a very miserable activation system. I am currently fighting with onONE to reactivate my licenses. SO, onONE software is a perfect example of why your software is needed...if it could recover their versions stated above. Full versions retail over $, there...that is my first request for software to add to your database.

Thank you for promoting your software on Bits today. If you had not, I would not have discovered Recover Keys.

Best, Preston

Is this deal a clearance sale for a prior version? 7 perhaps?

What's the upgrade cost from this version to 8.0?

Regardless, thanks for making the deal available and for answering my question..

William I'm sorry about this...

I downloaded the demo. The scan result showed IsoBuster (among others) and a license key beginning "8B75-...". I did find this in the registry editor but I also have the IsoBuster email (from BDJ) which says: "COPY and PASTE the Email, Registration ID and the Key from this mail...".

Your product does not list any of the three strings (email, registration ID, or key) that I would need to reactivate IsoBuster. They are in the registry with names: ID31 and ID32. The one value that RK does list is not any of them.

I think I have to continue to archive registration/activation emails in lieu of RK. It would have been more convenient but I'm afraid that I might develop a false sense of security and rely too heavily on RK. I might be disappointed if I someday need to reactivate, say, IsoBuster or others.

Thank you for the deal just the same.

pestoking Is this product basically for someone who doesn't keep a log of keys for software purchases?
Nov 3 2014 at 11:38am Copy Link
Louis H @ William... I checked my findings on IsoBuster after your post. I discovered the same thing. However, so far, all of the other software programs I have done a check on, DO list the correct information. I would never trust any program to provide a sense of total security. My interest in this program is as an extra level of protection for keeping track of all the keys I need to keep track of.

@pestoking... there are numerous reasons why such a program would be beneficial. While I do try and keep track of everything I purchase, I have experienced several incidents over the years where either a hard copy of the information, the original email, or a backup on a disk, USB device, or removable disk drive was lost. So while you may have been trying to say something insinuating this program is for less than savvy users, I have no problem choosing to use such a program as it is more important for me to have extra ways to backup the information than it is to have a stranger think less of me.

Apart from slightly different icons at the top of the page, they perform exactly the same and, in use, every aspect of the operation is identical.

The only difference I can detect is that the version numbers are slightly different.

And why doesn't the save to PDF work in either version?

Recover Keys HarBri, Recover Keys is main product, and I personally (I'm developer of it) own intellectual property rights and copyright to it.

As for PDF, not really sure what you mean by "doesn't save". How doesn't it saving? Button is disabled? It generates empty file? Doesn't generate any file? Fails with error message? Please be more specific
Recover Keys - Nov 4 2014 at 7:02am Copy Link
Louis H @Recover Keys... Based on HarBri's comment, I went back and tried to export as a PDF and get the error message "Stream read error." I had no problem exporting in the other formats I tried. Not a problem for me, personally, but thought I would let you know.

By the way.... any idea as to the glitch with identifying the wrong info in the case of Iso Buster? Thanks.

@pestoking - thanks for the clarification.
Nov 4 2014 at 7:14am Copy Link
HarBri Sorry for not being specific. The error when attempting to save as PDF in both Recover Keys & Product Key Finder is "Steam read error", as indicated by Louis H.

I reported this to UpdateStar back in June when I upgraded to v8, but they didn't do anything about it.

VLM pestoking - In my opinion, yes.

Recover Keys - Nowadays, in many cases the key is not enough. You need the exact purchaser name, or the purchaser's email address, or ... . Does Recover Keys have some way of figuring all this out? (Sounds very difficult, since the set of possibilities is large.)

If not, then I agree with William's comment, "I'm afraid that I might develop a false sense of security and rely too heavily on RK. I might be disappointed if I someday need to reactivate, say, IsoBuster or others."

That said, I can also see Louis H's point: "My interest in this program is as an extra level of protection for keeping track of all the keys I need to keep track of." But for me, personally, I have already established triple redundancy WRT storage of keys and related activation information, so I'm not sure how this product would add any benefit. Again, this is for me, personally, may be different for others.

Recover Keys HarBri,

I wasn't able to reproduce "Stream read error", but will investigate this issue.

As a workaround you can click "Print" and from print dialog select "File" => "Export to PDF".

Also I can suggest exporting to Excel or Word and then in MS Word or MS Excel "Save As" as PDF file as workaround.

Thank you very much for reporting this.

Recover Keys - Nov 4 2014 at 12:43pm Copy Link
Recover Keys VLM,

Yes, it does show email, username and other registration information. But not for all software. You should understand that regardless of how hard we will work - this software will never be fully complete.

Each program (and in most cases each program's version too) store product key and other registration information in different place, some in registry, some in files, files can XML, Text, JSON, INI, binary, etc, databases such MDB, SQLite, Firebird, MySQL, etc. Some developers encrypt product keys or store them in such deep places on your computer you cannot imagine. For some reason, lots of developers are really creative at hiding registration information.

Take a look at this picture:

These are numbers of supported software in different versions of Recover Keys. Even though we improve this number with time, it is still a fraction of billions programs which exist in the world.
Recover Keys - Nov 4 2014 at 12:53pm Copy Link

George Butel Software producers are rightfully worried that people will install their software and use it without the company getting any money for the use of their intellectual property. Some programs will activate without the necessity of contacting the company's server, and only the "cd key" or "license key" are necessary. Most these days require some kind of contact with the company's servers, which can do several things. It might install a non-registry file on the computer and/or modify a registry setting. Requiring an "activation key" in addition to the cd key is sort of like two-step authentication. Most people keep a record of all their activation keys. Some companies will send a registration key separately so you can keep that and use it if you have to reinstall Windows and the program, or have a similar issue (such as having to use system restore after having installed the program.) I have everything saved: for instance, I have the cd code for Roxio's GoBack3, Norton System Works 2001, and Drive Image 2002, all in a gigantic list (not that I would ever need any of those anymore.)

But is this "recover keys" program going to help re-activate a program that normally requires some kind of key from a company's server? Taking registry snapshots before and after a software installation, then saving the difference between the two as a file might help in some cases, but not all. (Registry First Aid will do that--create undo or redo files for any process that modifies the registry.)

One of the ways I characterize software products is the ease with which it can be reactivated. Adobe fails miserably on that regard, whereas Sony gets kudos. I also give them credit for how long they maintain support: Sony and Adobe are good in that regard, whereas Nuance fails miserably.

Does this program do anything that a prudent user, knowing the vagaries of Windows, does not already do in preparation for the inevitable reinstallation?

Bruce What would be useful, for those of us who purchased version 8.0.3 here at BDJ (11/2014) would be to know:
1) what "improvement" have been added to version 9 compared to version 8?
So that we may make an informed decision about whether it is justified to pay for an upgrade.
2) what is the upgrade cost to those of us who own version 8?
On the website and here in BDJ it is stated that upgrades are "nominal" and "discounted".
Recover Keys FAQ
"Q: What's the upgrade policy?
A: Any updates released within the same Major version is provided free of cost. If we'll add a drastic amount of features then we may up the version number and the cost of the upgrade will be nominal and will be determined at that time.
Upgrades to future versions of the software will be free for minor versions only. For versions after that, upgrades will require additional payment, which will be discounted."
Thank you.

Mike Shanahan You offer a portable version of this software. Why is this not considered a Data Hijacking program? You are selling the ability to sit down at somebody's PC and steal all of their activation codes. Is this not sold mostly to black hats under the guise of legitimate software?

Recover Keys Dear Mike,

1. Portable version of Recover Keys is mainly used by PC repair shops, as they work with customer's PCs / laptops and data recovery is one of the major requests by their customers. Originally this license was introduced specially for PC-repair-shop alike businesses, which are working with customer's computer hardware, but cannot afford Enterprise license.

2. Recover Keys is mostly used for recovery, backup or inventory purposes and we have many Fortune 500 companies as our customers.

3. Assuming one already have access to the PC (physical access, access to USB port, login credentials) one can steal lots of confidential information way more sensitive than product keys without using any tools, by simply copying someone's private files.

4. Buying license of one software to steal license of another seems like unnecessary extra step to me, it’s relatively easy to pirate any software nowadays with thousands of torrent / file-sharing websites available on internet.

5. Same like with any tool one can use it for good or for evil. One can use knife to put butter on top of a bread or to rob somebody.

I hope this will answer your question :)

Charm Solitaire
Dream Vacation Solitaire
Hotel Solitaire
Hoyle Miami Solitaire
Mystery Solitaire Secret Island
Poker Superstars II
Telltale Texas Hold'Em
Texas Hold 'Em Championship

Steven Avery It would be nice for a product like Recover Keys to have features like, or direct integration with, a product like Serial Safe. I would like to hear the experiences of anybody who has done the export-import route.

Interestingly, Nirsoft on his Produkey page has a link to Recover Keys.

Since Produkey is limited to some special numbers like the Windows stuff.

Chris Is the Demo converted to full with the serial key or is there a different installer I need as I purchased this here and want to put it in my SerialSafe program.

Jan 20 2017 at 9:57am Copy Link
Irena One Up Ltd. Hi @Chris, Demo will turns to a Full version after activation. If you have installed Recover Keys Demo version from here, or from website, you can register it with the license key which you've received after your order. Cheers :)

Barbara User Hi there. I purchased the basic license and now I am wondering if I can install the 32-bit version on XP and then the 64-bit on Win 10. Thank you in advance! Barbara Quanbeck

disenchanted Glad I could get this offer, as I missed the last one.

Seems to do a decent job detecting what's there, especially since I have a lot of softwares from BDJ on my pc. [not all s/w developers on BDJ are as well known as companies like microsoft or adobe].

The basic scan showed about 31 programs and the deep scan showed about 46 programs.

It appears to be a fairly accurate detection.

Garrett Goyette I have been usng Recoverkeys since version 7 and always the upgrades use at leat 1000 programs. I can search attached usb drives , anything with a WINDOWS directory to search. I recently walked through over 1 dozen hardrives Does seem to find almost every windows program intaleed and returns adate and time though not always the license keys. However, it does find a huge number of license keys and is literally a lifesaver. I am tempted to upgrade from version 9 to 10 just to find the programs it can't quite return in version 9. DJ sells a competitor version which literally found onlly a dozen programs wheres ecoverkeys found hundreds

Jane Blue The "Fine Print" tab says: "Retrive activation keys from more than 9,200+ installed applications and software packages."

Not sure what you mean by "software packages" in that sentence. Does it cover uninstalled software, as in, can it retrieve keys from an installation CD? I have a CD for an Adobe CS suite but the serial number is water damaged and I can't read it. Now with a new computer, I'd like to get it back. Don't like that monthly fee business for the new suite.
Jan 22 2020 at 7:38am Copy Link
Adam P As far as I know, it only can retrieve the user names / serial numbers for software that is currently on your computer.

But personal experience with Adobe Design Suite CS 5.5 & CS 6, when you install you have to activate it with an Adobe ID. So if you go to and sign-in, you should be able to see the license numbers for all purchased programs that were activated in the past.
Jan 22 2020 at 7:51am Copy Link
Jane Blue Thanks Adam. This is CS4. I also have CS5 but it doesn't have Soundbooth, which is what I'm wanting to get back. CS5 is in my Adobe account but CS4 isn't listed. Didn't get any help from Adobe support either. :(

Recover Keys Small bug-fixes and few database modifications. If you already have purchased v11.0.4.229 you can simply download latest version from our website, no need to purchase again
Recover Keys - Jan 22 2020 at 8:38am Copy Link
Recover Keys @Jane Blue When it comes to uninstalled software it really depends. Some software leave registration information on your computer even after uninstall and some remove it. You cannot retrieve product key from installation CD, since there is no license information usually on CD daya (usually key is printed on CD, booklet or CD box). I think Recover Keys wouldn't be much of use for you right now, it should be used for backup purposes before you lose your product keys

disenchanted I have version 9 from an old 2017 bitsdujour purchase.

1. Is it cheaper to buy an Upgrade?

2. Or re-buy today's offer, featuring V11?

Cary Adams License Crawler is free for personal use. How is Recover Keys better?
Jul 22 2020 at 9:36am Copy Link
Recover Keys In every possible way. You can try both for free and see results for yourself. LicenseCrawler is similar to "deep-scan" feature in Recover Keys, while Recover Keys also have internal database of locations of product keys for 10K+ software programs.

What would it cost me now to upgrade to the 2-9 PCs version (which you show as being $41.97)?

kydara Be aware of the existence of a competing product, Magical Jelly Bean Product KeyFinder. (Don't look at me, I didn't come up with the name.) They have a free version that claims to find 300+ product keys, and a $30 version that claims to find over 10,000 keys.

I have used the free version in the past and it does what it says it does. I have never used the paid version of either MJB or the product being sold here so I cannot offer any comparison between them - I just wanted people to be aware of the existence of a competing product. YMMV.
Oct 5 2021 at 5:53am Copy Link
Peter The Magical Jelly Bean website links to the current vendor's product, namely Recover Keys. I quote:

'If you need something more powerful, compare Magical Jelly Bean Keyfinder with a tool called "Recover Keys".'

There is no paid version of Magical Jelly Bean Keyfinder. The 29.95 USD is the price of Recover Keys, the product on sale here.

Rob Nolan Will not recover keys for MS Office products (Office, Word, Excel, Outlook). Just like all the others it may only recover a portion of the keys.
Oct 6 2021 at 2:13am Copy Link
kydara @Peter How daft of me, you're 100% correct. I need to read more carefully next time.

Still, folks should probably know about MJB as a freeware alternative, even if it does recover only a fraction of the number of keys that Recover Keys does.
Oct 6 2021 at 9:06am Copy Link
Adam P Depends on which version of office you have installed. For my 2013 version it shows the full number. With newer versions of office MS quit storing the whole number on the computer, so all the software can retrieve is the partial number the Microsoft stored.

garrett james Totally fantastic program beyond all the competition. I have versions 6, 9 and 9 and will get the upgrade since they have added a few thousand more titles and some extra features. I have some hardrive docks and simply keep swapping in hard drives to search. I have over 900 programs loaded on my current laptop, many are very high end so it is very nice to be able to sweep through in only a few minutes and then email myself a list of most of my installations
