Mike G Seems like a powerful tool. However, won't changing executables cause them to be flagged by anti-virus software? If true, I suppose the workaround is to exclude the executable from virus scanners. How difficult is it to reapply changes after a software update?

Sorry, I should probably be researching all this on my own, but I'm not sure I'll get around to it in time for the deal.

Serge Vershin No, it won't cause executables to be flagged. Anti-virus software searches for known signatures and malicious patterns in executable code. Changing the exe resources can't make it malicious because the resources are separated from the program code. This lets you make significant changes to the interface of the program while leaving the code untouched.

Mike G Thanks for the info. I tried Resource Tuner on one executable and immediately gained access to internal strings, graphics, manifest, etc. Nice.

Tried it on a different executable and got a message saying "The file is likely damaged, packed or compressed. ...this file requires a more powerful tool, such as PE Explorer."

Downloaded and tried PE Explorer which did allow me to open and disassemble the executable. Will there be a 50% discount on PE Explorer?

Serge Vershin If a file is damaged, packed with a commercial packer, compressed or somehow protected from reverse engineering, there's not much you can do with resources, even with PE Explorer.

At this point, Resource Tuner automatically unpacks UPX- and Upack-compressed files. Eventually we will add more unpacker plug-ins, until then those two are all there are.

Regarding the discount on PE Explorer, I believe this will happen, not sure when though.

Luke Miller What version is this Personal? or Developer? Since you say that Resource Tuner lets you "Rebrand your applications by replacing icons and logos.", I am assuming Developer. Is that correct?

Serge Vershin Not quite. Since Resource Tuner is a general purpose product, anyone can use the Personal (Home) license at home for private use, for non-commercial purposes. With Business License, you (individual or company) can use the program in a business, academic, or government environment.
