Peter User How do you use the real time installation monitor? Do you plug in the usb when installing and also when uninstalling. what if you have three or four computers and installing the same program on say two or more computers will it keep track of the nuances of installing a program on two or more computers or several programs on several computers?

I would imagine it would be complicated enough to monitor installation of several softwares on one computer how much more several computers?

Can I put the program on two or more usb owned by single user. Can I legally uninstall a program for a friend in his computer?

Adam Bridge If I buy this portable version then I would also like to know if it keeps track of different installations on different PC's. If it does and can perform to the same standard as the "per computer" installed versions then what is the benefit of ever buying individually licensed copies when you can just buy this version once ? There are questions here with only four hours for this deal remaining as I type so I hope BDJ can give the Company a shake up to get back here to answer them.

Nov 17 2016 at 7:53pm Copy Link

2

Adam Bridge Also I note that version 3 of this software came out in 2013 so it has been quite a while on that version and we are now up to 3.1.7.

Can the VSRevo Group representative also advise when he/she anticipates the company will move to version 4 and what the upgrade path from the portable version 3 to portable version 4 is likely to cost ?

Nov 17 2016 at 7:59pm Copy Link

0

Joe M The latest version is 3.1.7. I just updated it a few day ago. Revo has made about 3 or 4 revisions since my initial install of version 3.0. Based on that I don't see them upgrading to a version 4 anytime soon.

Nov 17 2016 at 8:08pm Copy Link

1

Adam Bridge I admire your confidence Joe - maybe I am just the suspicious type but as I said it has been three years since version 3 so one would expect some new bells and whistles from the Company in a completely new version before too long - from a marketing perspective stagnate or die ! I do hate to buy something and then find a new and improved model/version has come out immediately afterwards.

I have already two installed Revo Pros on separate PC's but the idea of a portable version does appeal - but only if it is as good as the installed versions and not about to become outdated.

Tsvetan Marinkinski @Adam Bridge Each time you use Revo Uninstaller Pro Portable on a new computer an unique folder is created in the main folder of Revo Uninstaller Pro. That folder contains the information about the computer including traced logs, backups, settings etc. That way when you plug the USN memory stick in the same computer it will recognize it. The Portable version has the same functions as the standard desktop version. However the portable version is per user and you cannot have multiple copies if the program on each computer you want. Because of that some users still prefer to purchase the desktop version and have it all the time on each computer. We are currently working on version 4 but we are in early stages of said development and we cannot give any certain release dates yet. Just as remainder I want to mention that the license for version 3 will be still usable even when version 4 is released in the future

Tsvetan Marinkinski @Peter User To trace an installation start Revo Uninstaller Pro Portable and use the option Install Programs to browse to the exe file.
The traced logs are individual for each computer, but you can export the traced log from one of the computers and import it on all of them.
You can use Revo Uninstaller Pro Portable on each computer you want, you are not limited to computers you own. You can have the program on two separate computers but I must clarify that our activation server is monitoring for multiple activations with one serial number. This is in case someone is using your license without your knowing and it will be locked.

Tsvetan Marinkinski @Stephen Warkentien They are the same programs, just different ways to extract the files for Revo Uninstaller Pro Portable.

@Joe McCormick Basically it is the same program that you already own. However you can use the Portable version from USB Memory stick to uninstall programs from each computer you want. The Portable version is created for technicians that are maintaining large numbers of computers. As mentioned we are working on a new major version 4 but we are always improving and releasing new minor updates for the current version.

J S I have just read your reply to Mario Demi Tihomir "commentId=125711"

I'd like to ask you one question: when 'VSRevo Group' finally release version 4.x will BOTH versions - the PORTABLE Pro & standard Pro versions be released at the same time?

--------------------

There I was thinking (like others) that Version 3.x Pro would be around for years to come.

I bought 4 Pro Licenses and so far have only "installed the program/registered it" onto one computer. So from what I've read today those extra 3 Licenses may have been a waste of money?

Cary Adams For those worried about version 4, I don't imagine there are many new tricks available to this software apart from adding an updater for installed programs. Version 3 is fully compatible w/Win 10 and already offers several disk cleaning utilities that I have never found all that compelling.

The heart of this program is the uninstaller and I can't imagine it getting much better apart from some minor bugs fixes (I know of no outstanding bugs).

I'm a satisfied long term user.

Tsvetan Marinkinski We have been reported regarding the particular case, however after investigating it, we were not able to reproduce the problem,as also during an update process the particular file(cachedata.dat) is not in use.
If the file has been modified, that probably happened in a previous to the update moment and it is unlikely to be connected to the update process.

Adolphe This is a great deal and I'll tell you why. But first : I'm just a long-time user and paying customer. I have no vested interest in this.

1. Revo is the oldest and most reputable uninstalling software. It's important, because this type of program deletes registry items. If they do it wrong, they have the potential to seriously ruin your computer setup. If you're not satisfied with the embedded uninstaller of Windows, going with Revo is a good idea.

2. For 18 $, you get the portable edition, which is the most expensive at 70 $. That's because you can use it on any number of computers. But 18 $ is a great deal even relative to the cheapest edition, usable on one comptuer only, which costs 39 $.

3. Revo does offer a free version (not just a free trial), which is completely acceptable if you just can't afford to pay. Incidentally, it's nowhere to be seen on the website linked here, which is special to Revo Uninstaller Pro. You can find it on the regular site at http://www.revouninstaller.com. However, there is real value in going Pro : the free version does not have the monitored install feature, which is really the cleanest and safest way to uninstall, and makes all the difference : Revo monitors all changes during install, and undoes them to uninstall. The comparison table is here : http://www.revouninstalle...mpare.html

4. So that you don't think I'm a fanboy, you do need to know that Revo has a few incredibly clunky, old-fashioned and downright counter-intuitive aspects to its user interface. They are not deal-breakers by any stretch, and you can get around them. Just be advised they exist. Also, there are a few fundamental concepts for the understanding of the program that are not explained in the online help, or even the manual. At all.

5. However, Revo provides a very good one-to-one mail support service. The answers are fast, precise, detailed and to the point. They don't just give you a link to some page in their online help, as other publishers do. That's how I learnt what I was telling you about at the end of point n°4. It's important, because they have no user forum on their website. Revo even promises free support for the free version.

Bottom line : if you're not satisfied with Windows' built-in uninstaller, this offer is a no-brainer. The advertised version is 3.1.7, but I suppose this is a mistake : last version is 3.1.8, and I don't see why they wouldn't provide this one, since it's a very minor update.

Thank you for your question.
In terms of features the standard Revo Uninstaller Pro 3 (installable) and Revo Uninstaller Pro Portable versions are identical.

The difference between them is the licensing.
The first one is the regular one, which is the install-able version and it's license is purchased per computer activation.
The portable version has a license per user. That means that one user is allowed to use Revo Uninstaller Pro on unlimited number of computers (just not simultaneously). The portable version is designed to be run directly from an external USB device (like a thumb drive).

a a Hi @Timor,

My other questions seemed to have been missed...

Regarding online activation - will the software not work until it has been activated?

Is it activated only once on first use, or does it need to activate every time it is used/started?

Is it possible to backup this activaion data, so I don't need to ever re-eactivate when used on the same PC?

Why is online activation needed for the portable version?

Mar 1 2017 at 3:49am Copy Link

0

Tsvetan Marinkinski I apologize for missing your second question.
The Portable version will not work if it is not activated,it must be activated online once it's extracted, in order for the particular license to be registered.
After that successful activation, you can simply upload the activated folder to a thumb drive(USB device). It does not need to be activated solely on every computer, if you use the same activated folder.
The information which is saved for the particular computer is not connected to the activation, but to the personal settings and features used on the certain configuration.

VS Revo Group Ltd. - Mar 1 2017 at 4:57am Copy Link

0

Tsvetan Marinkinski @a a
Just to clarify my reply and avoid any misunderstanding.
If you enter a correct serial number the program will be successfully activated no matter if you have Internet connection or not, but when internet connection is available it will connect to our activation server to register one successful activation. Online activation is necessary to know how the serial number is used and probably in the future to offer more options\features regarding the activation.
Once activated, you are supposed just to copy the activated program to an USB stick or removable drive and use it on any supported as OS computer. There is no need of more activations.
So there is no need to backup the activation data just copy and paste the folder of the one successfully activated program.

Hi, I also purchased the portable version a couple of months back, and is curious regarding the statement that it is not designed to be used from a network folder.
I have placed my portable installation inside my DropBox folder to get it synced to my laptop, will this behavior lock/block out my license ?

Also can you tell us what is the planned major features in version 4 ?

Mar 2 2017 at 5:27am Copy Link

0

Tsvetan Marinkinski There should be no problem using the Portable version from that particular location,if it has direct access to the Windows Registry and full writing permissions to it's folder.
However, if you want to use on different configurations, you should make sure it is uploaded on a device(as a thumb drive), that has the previously mentioned access and privileges, as if you place it directly onto other computer's HDD, it may require reactivation.
Our next major version 4.x is still in development state, so I cannot give you any details regarding the planned features.

PortablesFan Hi,
In earlier developer comments, it was estimated that version 4 would be released around the third quarter or end of this year, which is increasingly imminent!
Is there a revised estimate at this point?
As far as the "significant discount" for an upgrade to v. 4 of the portable version, about what amount would we be looking at there?
(I imagine several of us are considering whether to get this now, or wait until whenever v. 4 is released and appears on BdJ!)

Orochi User Yea, how's version pro 4 doing so far?

Sep 22 2017 at 4:07pm Copy Link

Bruce I would wish to buy this,
But as other users have questioned, if there is development plan timeline to be issuing a version 4 this year, that would mean we are buying a very short two or three month license to this product.

I would hope that the Revo Developers would take this into consideration, and allow purchasers to be getting updates for a year, even if the main version number increases.

Other software I have registered has specified this kind of flexible free or high discount policy for folks who buy at the end of life of one version number shortly before the next version number is released.
No one wishes to spend their hard-earned money to buy a product that turns out to become deprecated, out-dated, and/or replaced by a newer product shortly after they buy the product.

Thank you.
Hoping for a reply before the offer runs out.

(P.S. I have a purchased license to Revo Uninstaller Pro, either v2 or 3, don't recall which or if both off hand. ;-) )

We are currently working on new minor and major versions for Revo Uninstaller Pro. Initially it was estimated that version 4 will be released by the end of 2017. Sadly the release will be delayed for the first quarter of 2018. There will be a discount for previous users as usual but the exact percentage has not been set yet. It can be used from an internal drive as well, however, if you don't own the computer on which you are using the program, you should delete it after you have finished all tasks, as Revo Uninstaller Pro Portable's license is per user so only one user is allowed to use it.

Technically you can combine the the "Data" folders from different copies of Revo Uninstaller Pro Portable but that would require manual editing of the INI files in the folders. It would also be pointless if a copy of Revo Uninstaller Pro Portable is used on only one computer, and if you are using it from a USB drive, then you don't need to "merge the databases", so to speak.
If you have a specific issue or questions, and you need more details, you can contact us via support@revouninstaller.com.

Your last question was unclear. If you are asking if the standard (installable) and portable versions differ in terms of features and functionality, they do not. They are identical. It is the licensing that is different. The standard version has a license that is per computer. This means that a license is purchased for a certain amount of computers but any user who uses those computers is also allowed to use Revo Uninstaller Pro. The portable version has a license per user. This means that one user is allowed to use Revo Uninstaller Pro on unlimited number of computers (just not simultaneously).

Adolphe This seems to be good value, considering this is the portable version, therefore it can be used on any number of computers. I own the Pro installed version, 1 computer.

However, I don't understand the logic of your price list (regardless of this offer). How can you sell the portable version on your site for 34 $ (unlimited number of computers), and the installed version for 39 $ (1 computer), 58 $ (3 computers) or 98 $ (5 computers) ?

What does the portable version lack compared to the 5-computer installed version ?

geo User @ Tihomir Hinchev: Thanks for your reply. On my first question I meant to say 'portable HDD'. So, based on your answer the installation is not limited to a USB key, that was what I really was looking to find out.
I will contact you in the future with some more detailed questions.
One last question: What happens when I have a multi boot system and also VMs.
Do I need separate licenses for each boot OS and VM?

And thanks for putting out a good program!

PortablesFan I don't work for Revo or have any official relation to them or BdJ, but I can attempt to answer the previous two questions based on what I've read from them.

Adolphe: While the portable version is licensed per user and can be run on multiple computers, I believe it's not the intent for that to be multiple SIMULTANEOUS computers. Sure, you may be able to do so from a technical standpoint, but it sounds like this would likely be against the license, the intent of the company, and the honor system they at least somewhat use for the portable version. And if I recall, the portable version is normally much higher-priced than that (top of this page says nearly $70), which makes more sense when compared to the other license combos--the portable version being a single user/instance license, but one that isn't locked to always the same machine.

geo User: As long as each OS/VM supports Revo (not Mac OS 9, DOS 4.0, or something!), it's not being used multiple times simultaneously, and each OS/VM has access to an activated copy of the portable version, it sounds to me like it would probably work okay...

It's if you're trying to, e.g., run it on every VM at once that you would probably need more than one license in order to be in compliance.

Orochi User I already have a 3 computers license key for the Pro installed version, I wish this one had the free upgrade to 4 included when it comes out, I wouldn't buy this knowing that Version 4 is around the corner,

A Bridg Agreed with Orochi User. I have version 3 which, whilst it has been updated regularly, we have been waiting for Version 4 for a long time now and I am not prepared to spend more until Version 4 is out. Otherwise I will just be annoyed to have to pay again for an upgrade. If Revo were prepared to give free upgrade to Version 4 then I'd be in it but not as it stands. It would be interesting to know what Version 4 will have as additional features to the current Version too !

Adolphe @ Portables Fan

So the portable version would be a sort of technician licence, or IT manager licence. He would be supposed to go from PC to PC with his USB stick, and install or uninstall software personally. This would also assume all PCs would have the same set of software, wouldn't it ?

I can see this working at home, or in a small organisation only.

I also had in mind the previous, full price of 69 $, but it's discounted right now to 34 $ by Revo itself (independantly of the BDJ offer), so the list price on this page is a bit misleading.

Anyway, if you're a one-man, one-PC outfit, the present offer is difficult to beat. You could either put the program on your internal disk, or on a flash drive, have the same functionality as the installed version, and not be in breach of the licence since you would be the sole user.

I wonder, though, what happens with the right-click menu "Install with Revo". This, to me, is one of the most convenient features of Revo. I use it all the time to trace the install. It's much more convenient than launching Revo first. Portable programs are not supposed to be able to add items to the Windows right-click menu. The Revo representative said here both versions have the same features. Is this an oversight ?

Rob User I'm confused.
How does the portable version 'monitor' program installations on various pc's?
I read you can monitor program installations with the installed version of Revo by right-clicking during installation.
It seems that the potable version possibly scans the program you wish to uninstall on any PC that the licence holder chooses, so why monitor an installation as per an installed version of Revo? Is it simply a quicker process using the installed version of Revo on each PC?

Mar 14 2018 at 2:03am Copy Link

0

Tsvetan Marinkinski @Rob User The Portable version is also offering the option to monitor the installation process. However, by default, the context menu options are not enabled.
You can start the monitoring process from the File menu in Revo Uninstaller Pro Portable. Use the option "Install Programs"
You can also enable the option for the commands to be shown in the context menu. This will allow you to right-click on the setups and monitor the installations.
If you have any other questions we can answer them in details.

Craig S. I own a 3-license pack of Revo Uninstaller Pro. Questions:

1) Can I not use a portable license with that?

2) If not, how does the portable license work when logging installations on multiple PCs. How does it differentiate what programs are logged/installed on what PC?

Thanks

Answer #1
It is not possible the use the per computer license with the Portable version of Revo Uninstaller Pro

Answer #2
When you start Revo Uninstaller Pro Portable for the first time on a computer, a unique folder is created. That folder contains all of the information about the installed, traced and uninstalled programs. The next time you use the Portable on the same computer it will be recognized and you will be able to use the traced installations and restore the backups through the Backup Manager

I would like to get the newer 4.0 version. My questions are:
1.Are the vers3 logs and uninstall backups compatible with v4 and how do you merge the two into the newer version? Are the new v4 logs and uninstall backups
backwards compatible with v3?

2. Are the uninstall backups so call 'foolproof' in putting a removed program back on the HDD in the same working/activated condition? Sometimes I remove a program in the process of troubleshooting problems/conflicts and would be faster and easier to put back the program from the backup instead of a complete re-installation/activation process? Any pointers on that?

3. I have both potable and HDD versions of v3. What are the best new features and improvements of v4?

4. Can the portable be used on a portable HDD instead of USB FLASH?

Thanks so much.

Answer #1
The logs and backups are compatible. All you have to do is to upgrade your copy of version 3 to version 4 and use your new serial number to activate it. The logs and backups will be accessible right away. Logs created for version 4 can be exported and imported in version 3 as well

Answer #2
The backup cannot be used to completely restore a program. It can be used to restore only Registry items deleted by Revo Uninstaller Pro. This is made in case some Registry items are deleted accidentally that are not part of said program or are needed by other program.

Answer #3
We have improved most of the previous features and we have added a new ones. For example the Browser Cleaner and the Windows App Manager. Here is a list of the new features in version 4.x:
https://www.revouninstall...version-4/

More new features will be added with newer versions

Answer #4
Revo Uninstaller Pro Portable can be used from any portable storage devices.

Will there be a discount too on Full version purchase?
Thanks for the reply!

Sep 20 2019 at 6:39pm Copy Link

Tsvetan Marinkinski @Shilo Keane

The main difference between them is the licensing.
The portable version is designed to be run directly from an external USB device (like a thumb drive). That way you can have a copy of the program with you.

---

@ellene

We cannot make a direct comparison between the prices, as the price for a license for the standard version would depend on the number of computers, for which it is purchased.
At this point, unfortunately, we cannot comment on a discount for the standard version.

Yes, if you purchase a license for Revo Uninstaller Pro Portable now, you will be able to activate after two months, however, please note that the subscription period begins at the moment of purchase, not when a license is activated for the first time.

Bruce Brent Tihomir, I just purchased this software (Uninstaller Pro Portable).

Problem: I first tried to pay by PayPal. During the pay process, up came "ERROR" and the purchase didn't process. So, I started over using a credit card, which DID go through.

End result: In my e-mail in box, I was charged TWICE. Seems PayPal's process DID go though somehow.

I did go to Revo's website and wrote the same post as above, but I just want to be safe in sending my issue to this site in hopes others might have this same issue and hope REVO will honor a refund from PayPal to my account.

Thanks

Also I don't see why a person who has time left on his current license can't add that time (and not lose it) to the new 1 year or 2 year license purchased now.

Thanks

Constantin Florea @He User, I've checked your purchased license and it is "Revo Uninstaller Pro Portable - Lifetime license with 2 Years upgrades".

We only have one license policy in the setup of a promotion and it applies only to the first purchase item, so in the case of this promotion it (the license policy) applies only to the 1 year upgrades license. However our system sends that license policy in every receipt email, no matter the license purchased, this may be viewed as an issue.

Ultimately it is the big bold text title shown in the receipt email which specifies the type of license purchased.

The another very popular application in this field is total uninstall, which claims that it can for eg. make a backup of all the settings of a installed software, so that all those settings can be migrated to another pc. Today I purchased your 2 yr offer and have a concern with the e-mail I received as it states the following,

"Upgrades to future versions of the software will be free for 12 months. For versions after that, upgrades will require additional payment, which will be discounted"

Is this an error as I am understanding from my previous purchases with you that the length of the purchase - 2 yrs - has always entitled me to all updates during that time @ no charge... If not what good is the 2 yr upgrade offer??

Please clarify and thanks.

Your license was purchased indeed for 2 years of subscription period, so in that time(expires on 30-04-2023), you are eligible for free minor and major updates of Revo Uninstaller Pro Portable.
The particular text is most likely an automatically generated detail and there is a technical error in the mentioned information(12 months, instead of 24 months).

I must admit that your description regarding 'lifetime license' is pretty well-defined. However it is the use of the term 'Lifetime Licence' that is misleading.

I already have a license for Revo Unistaller and at the time of purchase I understood the terms of the agreement (1 year of upgrades and then the option to upgrade for an additional fee) and there was no mention of 'Lifetime Licence'.

It just seems to me that some developers add the 'Lifetime' offer to lure unsuspecting purchasers.

Aug 17 2021 at 9:12am Copy Link

Tsvetan Marinkinski @Experience
Please note that the subscription periods of all licenses start at the moment of purchase, and would be running concurrently.
We recommend that you renew a subscription as close to the renewal date as possible.

Aug 17 2021 at 9:55am Copy Link

Tsvetan Marinkinski @Experience
Generally, you can still do that, however, if you need to reinstall and reactivate using the same licenses, you would not receive the full subscription period, as both licenses would have been running concurrently.

Tsvetan Marinkinski The licenses are individual purchases, so every order has it's own subscription period. However, you can choose and apply a newly purchased Serial number for the particular type of license of Revo Uninstaller Pro(portable in that case) to a previously activated copy of Revo Uninstaller Pro Portable, via the Update Subscription option. That will add the new subscription period to the remaining period of the particular copy.

If you wish, you can download the ZIP archive instead:

To launch Revo Uninstaller Pro Portable, you need to use "RevoUPPort.exe" file.

So I can purchase (say 2 year license) and perform an "Update Subscription" with the new serial number and this will extend my current subscription by 2 years?

Revo Uninstaller Pro Portable - Lifetime license with 1 Year upgrades v4 ($9.98)"

One other question, what is the normal upgrade price once the license expires.

Tsvetan Marinkinski @Bill M
The licenses are for the latest - version 5 of Revo Uninstaller Pro, released in May 2022. It should be updated by BDJ agents, as soon as possible.
The renewal price for a new license depends on a current promotional events, as the provided by us upgrade promotion would be around 40-50% off the regular price discount.

Dunking Just purchased this, but I also have Pro and I realise I have a query about updates...
My Pro hasn't been updated since install (it is 5.01) and my subscription ran out in May. With most other programs I would download the version that fell within my expired subscription and update to that, with Revo there is only the latest version and that doesn't fall within the update period. OK, so perhaps my fault for not constantly updating (although if I am entitled to an update then surely I am entitled - any idea how tedious it is to check a hundred or more apps for updates every week?). But then another thought occurred to me...

Revo is updated via auto-update. Now, suppose my PC gets trashed and I have to reinstall my apps. I am then in exactly the situation I am in now, even though my Revo had been auto-updating. I only have the original download and no patches or updates, because those are only done online by the app and not saved.

So, how does one acquire or get back to the latest version that one has paid the subscription for, once the subscription has expired?

Reason I ask, is that I have purchased "Revo Uninstaller Pro Portable" with 2 year Upgrades in the past both for earlier versions (2.x 3.x & 4.x) and also a 2 year Upgrade Version for v5.x in December 2022, I haven't even Downloaded version 5.x

Loyal Customer Greetings folks,
A couple of questions, please:
1) you say "Best of all, Revo Uninstaller Pro Portable provides you with a real-time installation monitor that tracks all changes made to your system whenever you install a program, ..."
That is impossible if RUPP is on a thumb drive that is not always connected to the PC. Please explain this statement.

2) Can this portable version be installed on BOTH, the desktop (or laptop) AND a thumb- drive?

Thank you.

Tsvetan Marinkinski @Loyal Customer
On the first question - the Tracing module should be active for the monitoring of an installation to be completed. It can be started via the "Install Programs" button in the Revo Uninstaller Pro Portable or right-click "Install with..." on the setup file(if the option is activated via the Options->General) via the context menu.
On the second question - the license is purchased per user, so if you are the only one using(not simultaneously) Revo Uninstaller Pro Portable on each of the mentioned devices, there should be no problem.
