What are people saying about Revo Uninstaller Pro

Nelson Carvalho Hi,
I use RU free version for a long time.  The free version works very well.
I recommend. It is an excellent product.
I would like to know what are the differences among the free version and Pro version.

anthonyraynor? I have also used the free version for years without issues.  With my transition to an x64 desktop I have already purchased the pro version through another deal offered by the developer.  When I do a program uninstall I am amazed at how much debris is left over by poor uninstall routines.  Revo helps a lot in the cleanup process and with pro, does so much more.  They have offered this excellent product for free for years and still do in the 32 bit version, so I had no qualms in paying for the pro product.

Tsvetan Marinkinski Hello! Here are some features of Revo Uninstaller Pro not supported in freeware version: Revo Uninstaller Pro scans for leftovers with even more advanced algorithms that are so precise, fast and very effective in search for leftovers of Windows Services, Drivers, File associations, Shell Extensions, COM components, Windows Installer components, program settings and more! Revo Uninstaller Pro has a very powerful feature called Forced Uninstall. This feature allows you to remove leftovers of programs that are already uninstalled, incomplete installations and uninstall remnants of programs! It does not matter if the program, you want to remove, is not listed in Revo Uninstaller Pro or in Windows Add/Remove Programs Control Panel applet. Forced Uninstall gives power to the user but still keeps the safety and the accuracy of the results. It is very useful when the installation is corrupted and cannot continue further. Forced Uninstall is the best solution when you have to remove partially installed programs, partially uninstalled programs, and programs not listed as installed at all. Revo Uninstaller Pro has a feature that allows monitoring of installation of a program. It detects system changes during that installation and the process is done in real time - simultaneously! Real-Time installation monitor is the most advanced and innovative technology used today! This technology is unique among the rest of the uninstallers. That is why it offers the easiest and the fastest way to monitor installations, so when the program is no longer needed the system changes made by the installation of the monitored program could be fully reverted, as the program has never been installed before! It is so easy to use that requires only 3 mouse clicks to accomplish the whole process! Revo Uninstaller Pro creates backups of removed registry keys, values, files and folders. Backup Manager is the core part of that system. It helps you manage backup information stored by Revo Uninstaller Pro. The other levels of the backup system are: Creating system restore point before each uninstall Full Registry backup before each uninstall Full Registry backup once each day Revo Uninstaller Pro is started Also, Revo Uninstaller Pro is a native 64-bit application, which means that it takes all advantages and speed of 64-bit operating systems, including Windows 7 64-bit! Revo Unisntaller freeware does not support 64-bit operating systems.

Pedro Laurent Hi, what's the upgrade policy and the license policy as to how many PC this can be install on? If the license is for one PC can I uninstall and transfer it to another PC?

Tsvetan Marinkinski Hi, The license is per computer (including multi-boot and multi-user systems). You do not have to pay for minor updates and you can use purchased version as long as you want! Also, every purchase gets special discounts for major upgrades and other products!

Mitch B that involves much problem for me, i'm sorry i'll pass then shenel although i do like your program very much,
i have quite a few purchased items with hw-licensing, each time pc-changes it's very cumbersome with a slew of emails, why not implement an userarea instead of where one could revoke access of old licensing id's, it's much more conveniant for all parties.

Tsvetan Marinkinski Mitch, I can assure you that contacting us is easier and much faster way than a logging to a web site and following some instructions. It is also easier to a lot of our users - just an e-mail request and our support team will solve the issue immediately.  We have 24/7 technical support team available, so most of the technical issues related to Revo Uninstaller, uninstalling programs, or other software removal problems are solved within an hour (depending on the load of the support team)!

Techtoysavvy I also tend to change my hardware slowly over time. Sometimes I will use a program after 1 or 2 years of non-usage. By that time my hardware is different. The good news is that almost all software developers have renabled my license after a quick email.

Adobe on the other hand has a scheme that you mentioned. It is implemented by Macromedia and does not always work. In my case, I was told that it may not work when I upgraded from Vista to Win 7. A very polite CSR fixed it for me quickly but I had to wait an hour on the phone to get service. A simple email would have been less hassle.

_*_ DRM is such a bother for honest users; especially limited activations, or need to contact a server for authentication.

I would have liked to purchase this program, but DRM schemes such as this make me say no to buying such items.

I try very hard to keep my system free of any form of DRM that installs itself without my permission or knowledge.

It honestly looks like a great product otherwise.

Pedro Laurent I agree with Mitch B, it's easier to have a user area where customers could revoke the license from hardware id no longer use. Companies like Alcohol 120 uses this license service. I don't like going thru emails just so I can use the software in another machine I see it like a waste of time. I will stick to Total Uninstall 5 as I don't have to go thru hardware authentication.

Tsvetan Marinkinski Curious George, as we wrote on every computer you want to use Revo Uninstaller Pro more than 30 days you have to activate it. The activation is online and hardware related. It is your decision how many licenses you will buy and how you will use them on your three computers. We are trying to do the activation of Revo Uninstaller Pro as easier as possible for the user according to our current activation algorithms.
You can buy Revo Uninstaller Pro with volume discounts from here - "Bits du Jour".
Yes, you can use Revo Uninstaller Pro on a multi boot system with only one license.
According to the server drive question, as the activation is hardware related to the PC where you are doing the instillation, the physical location of the installation files doesn't matter, so you won't be able to  register it on all the 3 PCs related to that server drive.

Stephane M I have a couple of apps installed on a machine but I cannot uninstall them as the uninstaller is missing or I do not have the original setup so in short when I am trying to uninstall them through the windows uninstaller it is trying to find the original setup.exe or it is giving me an error message stating that the unins000.dat is not there for example.

Is Revo Uninstaller Pro capable to uninstall software in that case or it still needs the original uninstaller coming with the software?

Thanks.

Tsvetan Marinkinski Hi Stephane, the short answer is yes, Revo Uninstaller Pro is capable to uninstall such apps!

Stephane M @ Shenel

Well I tried the Forced Uninstall feature with one on my software having the unins000.exe but having the unins000.dat missing.

Revo Uninstaller finds the built-in uninstaller so I unchecked the "Run the selected built-in uninstaller" checkbox then clicked on Next.

But in that case, Revo Uninstaller does not remove any of the files and shortcuts of my software, it just scans registry for leftovers.
So it does not fully uninstall software.

I thought Forced Uninstall would have removed of the related files found in "Program files" and elsewhere + shortcuts but it has not.

Jim Willis Hey bits admin - I tried to buy Revo by clicking the 'BUY' button but it won't work, not even by clicking the 'here' button.
What's up? I have bought several other bits deals with no problems but this is just not working.
I even tried going directly to Revo's site & using the code 'bitsdujour50' during checkout but I get an 'invalid code' message.
Really need your help as this is very frustrating.

I think my purchase went through, although;I got the same thing as some others reported - purchase is completing, please wait up to 2 minutes, I waited about 5 min. and closed the page, so hopefully I'll get an email from Plimus soon.
Anyway, problem seems to be on my end.

(especially since I am do maintenance PC and upgrade work daily for friends and family in my home business.  I had 1 PC that was supposed to have a Restore CD, but it did not work, so I used this tool.  IT MADE MY PC AS IF IT WERE NEWLY FORMATTED and CLEAN.  AWESOME tool!!!!!

Albert C. Hi. As a customer of a 4-PC license a couple years ago I have to say that this program is very good. IMHO better than the most known like Total Uninstall and Your Uninstaller. Revo just works!
Regarding the activation thing, I'm no fan of this kind of protection at all. I have 3 computers and reinstall my OS several times per year on each of them. I once needed to reset my activations because I ran out of them. And the support @ Revo was flawless!
So kudos to Revo for such a great program and such a great flexibility regarding activation system.

Very recommended guys! ^_^

Michael R. A more general question about the un-installing process:

If an uninstaller is able to locate all the files belonging to a certain application, as well as the registry-entries, wouln't it be easy than to backup this files/information and even allow to transfer these files to another computer? Perhaps even create a .EXE setup-file allowing to install the application in a user-given directory?

So is this possible? If no, why not? And if yes, does RevoUninstaller has this feature?

Thanks a lot...

Tsvetan Marinkinski Hi Michael,

At the moment Revo Uninstaller Pro doesn't have such feature. Otherwise such feature is more reasonable for the traced programs by Revo Uninstaller Pro, as the results there will be better. It is possible all the data to be exported as an archive or as you suggest as a self-extracting archive like .exe file. Such feature may be implemented in the future in Revo Uninstaller Pro.

Deleting the Coupon Code resets everything to full price and eliminates the error message. Re-entering the code brings the price back to 50% off, but the error codes come back and will not allow completion of the transaction. Tsvetan Marinkinski Hello Fred,

The price here at BitsduJour is $19.62 for one license and there is additional volume discount for more than 3 licenses, so you can buy 3 licenses for $29.43. There is no yearly subscription. Buying a license you can update Revo Uninstaller Pro for free during the minor updates - till the next major update. Then you decide to buy an upgrade to the new major version or if you decide it doesn't worth you can continue to use your 2.x license.

For sure you will not have to contact the support team before every newly created virtual machine or restored snapshot. SoftCollector Great program! And it is made in Bulgaria! :) What I would like to see in future versions:

1. A list of changes made by the installation program (a bit like what Total Uninstall does), which would give the user the ability to see what changes the installer implements before uninstalling the programs. This option should be made available to advanced users. Right now such a list would only be possible to see at the time of uninstalling the program.

2. I am not sure if this could be implemented at all - an option to change the sequence of start up programs routine. If possible, it would be great!

3. All smaller functions could be improved: disk wipe, trace eraser (Webroot Window Washer is the one to look up to here), etc. These are not the main parts of the program, but since they are included, there is room for perfecting them.

Keep up the good work!

Kind regards,

SoftCollector A great piece of software! One of the two best uninstallers I have come across (the other being Total Uninstall). I own both.

Also, I was very proud to learn that it has been developed by a Bulgarian company! Way to go guys!

Here is what I would like to see developed in future versions:

1. More control over what Revo has found and considers for deinstalling – a list that the user can check and verify. A list of leftovers is already at hand, but I hope one can be offered at an earlier stage (before the deinstallation).

2. The ability for Revo to follow installations that require a restart of the computer (Total Unistall has that).

So, when buying more than one license, is there a way to give away some of the licenses to other users?

If yes:
How to let RevoGroup letting know the new user names?

Tsvetan Marinkinski Hi Stefan,
When you buy more than one license at once you get only one serial number that let you register Revo Uninstaller Pro on the same number of computers as the bought licenses number.
So you can share received serial number with your relatives or friends and they can use it to register Revo Uninstaller Pro on their computers, but there is no way at our side to associate your serial number with more than one names. So you can share the serial number, you make that decision, but the serial number and account is connected only to your name

Brian H SoftCollector, I am always grateful for your excellent reviews, product suggestions and insights on the programs being offered here on BDJ. Just to see an alternative, I took a look at "Total Uninstall" on their website, and I liked what I saw, as well. Question for you- although not an easy one, I know, if you had to choose between the two products, which would you choose? Does "Revo Uninstaller Pro" do anything that "Total Uninstall" does not? Because it seems that with the added benefit of being able to "follow installations that require a restart of the computer ", "Total Uninstall" might have an edge over "Revo Uninstaller Pro"? Or am I missing something in the equation? Thanks, as always, for your great advice. :-) -Brian

Tsvetan Marinkinski About Total Uninstall and Revo Uninstaller Pro, both products have a lot of differences and their monitoring modules works in completely different way. Both methods have their advantages and disadvantages. Yes, Revo Uninstaller Pro can't handle the reboot during the monitoring (it saves its log automatically when the computer is rebooted, if the user hasn't done that before), but many programs request a reboot mainly to load their data on Windows start up as it is stored by their installation, so in these cases the installation has completed before the reboot. Also Revo Uninstaller Pro has some algorithms that after the uninstall of trace program completes, we tried to search for program's data that is probably part of the program, but is not caught in the log, because the data is written after the log is saved. That may be data written after a requested reboot during the installation or data written during the usage of the program. It is easy and logical for us to recommend ourselves in such comparison, but it is better the user to make its decision, which product will better suits him.

Tony Simpson As a user of ToTal Uninstaller, I can tell you one thing that it doesn't do and that is it does not remove the program files and folders created during install. I didn't notice this until recently and just to be sure before writing this comment I installed a program under Total Uninstall and then removed it again with TU.

Sure enough TU leaves all the program folders and files intact. This is particularly true if during the install you install the program in a location not on the default C drive. It remains to be seen if Revo does the same, I will see.

SoftCollector Dear Brian H,

Thank you for your kind words – and I apology for the late reply.

To answer your question:

1. What Total Unistall does is make a snapshot of the registry (and a list of the file system, if I am not mistaken) before and after the installation and compare them to find differences. This is a very good approach, as it does not rely on algorithms inside TU, but on simple comparison. That said, there are some software titles that write all the time to your disk, creating logs, updating, etc. – like antivirus programs, disk defragmenters, backup software, etc. and Total Unistall lists those as part of the installation as well. Then you have to manually go through the list and delete the entries that got there by mistake (the above mentioned). So: Total Unistall puts the control at your fingertips, and if you know what you are doing and choose wisely, this should give great results. Also, Total Uninstall continues to monitor a software installation after the restart of the PC, which is a plus.

2. On the other hand Revo offers a lot of different possibilities, as its developers were aiming at creating not just a great uninstall tool, but also an Autorun Manager, Junk Files Cleaner, several trace erasers, etc. I have never had any problems with Revo and it seems to be working fine with deinstallations (also having some excellent options like the Hunter Mode, etc.), but what it actually does as far as uninstalling is not as transparent as with TU. It also, at this point, cannot continue to follow the installation when a reboot is required.

I have both titles installed and use them regularly, and cannot say which one is better as they both develop dynamically. If you can spare the extra time and do not mind going through long lists of entries to check which ones to actually delete, TU should be your choice. If you want the job done quicker (and still reliably – from my experience) Revo will suit you better.

Then again, why not have both? :) Revo is unbelievably cheap at the price at which it is being sold today. The only concern is the date of the new version, as Revo is not currently sold with the lifetime upgrade option.

I hope this helps!

Kind Regards,
SC

VLM Hi everyone, just my bit of input about Revo vs. Total Uninstall. I have been a Revo Pro user for years and I LOVE this program. It offers 2 modes of operation:

- Monitor during installation
- Scan and uninstall a program that was not monitored during installation

As far as I know, Total Uninstall only does the first, and that is reason enough to choose Revo, at least for me.

As SoftCollector has already pointed out, Total Uninstall works on a DIFF principle (before and after comparison), and it picks up activity from programs that have nothing to do with the installation in progress. Revo seems to me far more intelligent in this regard.

Someone, above, mentioned that Revo sometimes leaves some content behind. I have found this to be the case almost exclusively when it is removing a program that was not monitored during installation. For removal of monitored programs, I have found it to be almost perfect.

Vasil, I do suggest that you create some way for customers to break apart registrations and add separate serial numbers. There are situations where one buys in and for a group or community, but does not wish to give out the one and ONLY serial number. That makes it impossible to track abuse by someone in the group or community.

Tsvetan Marinkinski @Bennet Immanuel - No we do not offer a lifetime upgrade offer of Revo Uninstaller Pro

@Tony Simpson - Basically if the files are in use by Windows or other program Revo Uninstaller Pro puts them for deletion on the next reboot and most or all them should be deleted on the next reboot. If that does not happen, we will be grateful if you write a short report to our support emil with he name and the version of the program as well as your Windows version, so we can make some tests and investigate.

@SoftCollector - Thank you for your comments and suggestions, although I do not reply to your previous comments and suggestions here at BitsDuJour, we do not miss to take a record of them

VLM Vasil, I do have one additional suggestion for a future release. Most applications are updated from time to time, so it would be nice to have some way to link an update/upgrade with its original, underlying/prior installation(s). I'm not sure what might be the best way to do this, but it occurs to me that one approach is to append an update/upgrade installation to an existing installation file, rather than naming a new file from scratch. Just a thought to consider ...

bethel95 I've used RU for several years, and consider it to be an invaluable tool for cleaning up after an app's uninstaller has run (that's the first part of the RU uninstall sequence). I that it gives me control over the delete decisions (in contrast to other uninstallers that run in "black box" mode) while still presenting a friendly user interface.

I've been using RU Pro since the last time it was on sale (about 8 months ago?). It's hard for me to say whether it really performs better than the free version, as I've not done any in-depth testing. If nothing else, though, I like that I was able to support the dev of one of my favorite sysadmin tools. If you're using the free version, please consider doing that, too (and if Pro really is doing the job significantly better, then that's a bonus for us).

Sputnik I own Total Uninstall and let me say the way it really works.

You have two different modules in Total Uninstall : Installed Programs module and Monitored Programs module.

The Installed Programs module will show a complete list of all the installed programs on the computer (that include all the programs, monitored or not). When you select a program on this list, that launch an analysis (you have here the choice between 4 basic profiles of analysis, but you can create your owns) which will indicate all the changes done to the computer (in the registry and in the file system) by the selected program. If you uninstall a program through this module, the regular uninstall.exe of the program will be launched first and after that the leftovers will be uninstalled using the detected items during analysis. Before the uninstallation, you will have the opportunity to see clearly all the changes in the registry and in the file system made by the program and after the uninstallation you will see all the leftovers which will have been additionnally removed. Here, before the uninstallation, you may easily remove from that log anything you think is not belonging to the program to uninstall.

This first module make of Total Uninstall an uninstall tool very similar to Revo with the only exception that the scan for the leftovers is done before the uninstallation, not after as in the case of Revo.

With the Monitored Programs module you can create a snapshot of the registry and of the file system as they are before the installation of a program; you then install the program as you normally do and after the installation you do a post-install snapshot. The comparison between the pre-install and the post-install snapshots will create all the information concerning what has been changed in your computer by the installed program. The post-installation snapshot can be done after a reboot as it as been said earlier by someone.

The log concerning the installation of a program is very clear and you may easily see all what has been changed in the registry and in the file system. When you uninstall a program through this module, you have the choice to uninstall it with all the information contained in the installation log (and you may easily remove from that log anything you think is not belonging to the program to uninstall), or to uninstall with the regular uninstall.exe file first and then the leftovers with what remains in the log.

What is very interesting here about Total Uninstall is that you may use this program not only to monitor the installation of any program, but you may also use it to monitor any change done to the registry or to the file system when you do anything on your computer and that is a very valuable source of information...

That said, it is clear I'm in love with Total Uninstall but I would be also ready to buy a copy of Revo. There is only a little problem for me here : I really dont like the online activation (which you also have with Total Uninstall) but what I really hate is the limitation of 1 installation by footprint. I know it is ultimately not a problem because you may contact Revo to be able to register Revo Uninstaller another time (and maybe any number of times, I don't know), but only after having told them the entire history of your life (well, in fact I don't know if it's the case but I really hate to contact the software maker to be able to re-register a software I legally own)...

Brad This is really great software a must have tool for me. As a fan of BitsDuJour I am always downloading and testing software for purchase.
Revo does a fantastic job of cleaning things up after these multiple installs-uninstall routines.

At least to date I've never had Revo leave my PC in a flaky state. Some applications in an effort to clean every trace of an uninstalled application will inadvertently remove some important reference or files etc. from the system.

My thoughts are if your creating a tool which goes beyond the operating systems uninstall routine a mantra would be to first "do no harm" and while your doing that, make certain you maintain the efficacy of the system.

My experience with using Revo over the last two years is that they have these priorities in focus, striking a delicate balance between maintaining the health of the system and removing the clutter from sloppy uninstall operations.

At this price, its hard to pass up. However my enthusiasm is tempered by looking further down the line. From a marketing standpoint by offering the software at such a significant discount today, they appear to see a larger revenue bump down the road as all these discounted installs of version 2.57 today if a person wants to upgrade will of necessity per their policy be required to cough up some more cash in the third quarter of this year 2012, so roughly nine months if their projections hold. While I am not at all complaining about this apparent fact, nobody said they were a non-profit. For me it puts this discount into perspective.

The only thing which would sweet'n this deal were if buyers today were guaranteed a twelve month upgrade protection for the up coming third quarter upgrade. As all of us know this is not atypical in the software arena.

With this said I did purchase a three install license for my other PC's in the house primarily because of the discount offered. (Prior to this I only had one install) and depending on how deep I must dig into my checkbook to get the upgrade later this year I may go back to a single install. In the meantime though, I get to use the existing version 2.57 indefinitely, which is by the way did I mention is great software on two other PC's in the house.

My two cents, Brad

Tsvetan Marinkinski @Prasad Paranjpe - Thank you for your feedback! But please update the product and do not hesitate to contact our support team for any problems related to the registration or usage of Revo Uninstaller Pro. Yes our current activation/registration algorithms has some weaknesses but as far as we know the update of the program should not cause any problems with registration, there should be other reason for example as you wrote a change of a hard drive or on some Windows versions restore of an image from a backup may also cause such request for re-registration. But I want to note again please do not hesitate to update the program and contact our support team if necessary. We try to solve such registration problems as faster as possible and we always advise you to use the latest version of the product.
@Silat - No, future changes will not affect current purchases. Otherwise we are considering how to make it possible for the future purchases.

I can assure you that with the discount that you have here now if you update your 3 licenses even with the regular update price when 3.0 is released you sill will be below the regular price for the new 3 licenses package, but you will be able to use the latest versions of the product probably for more than 2 years

Joe M I went to the web site to purchase the program. From what I saw it is cheaper to buy 3 licenses then 2? Am I reading this correctly?

1 for $13.74
2 for $27.48
3 for $20.60

Techtoysavvy Folks no activation scheme is perfect. This one is not that bad. It is always a trade-off and the vendors do need to protect their products. And once again, support has always taken care of it.

@Vasil Georgiev, Thanks for previosu reply. It may be my changes to the environment.

Does each user account on a single machine need to activate the license? I usually login to my family machines as Administrator or myself and carry out admin type tasks. The family members login under their accounts and should be able to install/uninstall on their own machines without me having to reactivate for each user on on each machine.

VLM Robert Tardif - Just a point of law ... One generally does not buy title to software ... one does not own it. Rather, one buys a license to USE it in certain ways, for a certain period of time, and subject to certain conditions. I realize this does not change the feeling I imagine you have, but just to be technically correct, and I hope you don't mind. :)

Brad Perrault - I agree with your comment about the upcoming version 3. Our congregation has 3 Revo pro licenses now, and I would be VERY happy to purchase several more ... except that we don't really need them right now, it would be a purchase for the future. And if we need to purchase them again, effectively, before the future arrives, well, you get the picture. :)

Vasil, in your reply to Brad, are you suggesting that version 3 is more than 3 years away? I thought I read a comment from you saying it is 6-8 months away, and I wish to have a clear understanding of your present (and obviously changeable) plan.

Joe McCormick - If you can use the licenses now, even just 2 of them, this 3-pack is one step from free. It's a GREAT application, it works just as Brad described, above. Vasil always provides excellent and timely support. It would be hard to ask for more ... unless you want the program to wash your car for you. :)

Tsvetan Marinkinski @Prasad Paranjpe - At the moment the licensing data is stored in the current user profile, so the answer is yes it should be activated for every user. Maybe an easier way is after a successful activation to copy the created license.dat file to the appropriate user folder. You can find more info where that file is store in our FAQ section (Registration subsection) or contacting our support team.

@VLM - I am sorry if I was not clear, yes our current plans are next major version to be released in September, I was trying to explain to Brad that the sum of money that he may pay - 3 licenses now from BDJ plus upgrade price for 3 licenses when 3.0 is released, will be for sure lower than the regular price that we will request for 3 new licenses when 3.0 is released. So with lower price he will be able to start using the product now on 3 computers and use it at least 2 years and few months until 4.0 is released.

Sputnik @VLM

You're right : this does not change the feeling I have. :)

And I still have the same feeling because there has not been any answer from Vasil concerning this way to activate its software and the limitation of 1 installation by footprint.

He doesn't say if Revo intend to change this way of proceeding for the activation nor he gives an idea about what someone has to write in an email to the Revo's support in order to be able to activate another time the software, nor if there is a limit to the number of activation.

On this basis how can someone feel safe to buy such a software ?

An answer from Vasil would be much appreciated.

SoftCollector @ Robert

I have been using Revo for more than an year and I have never experienced any activation problems after updates or under any other circumstances.

I would not say that Revo activation is difficult or peculiar in any way.

I have "difficult" software installed on my machine and I know what you mean, but Revo is not one of those.

Kind Regards,

Tsvetan Marinkinski Hi Robert, our current activation scheme is clear - the activation is per computer and the activation is computer locked. Probably we will keep such type of registration algorithm for version 3.0, but we will change the algorithm itself trying to avoid current weaknesses.

We do not have a specific requirements for the information that should be provided if a reset of the activation is needed. We realize that there are a lot of possible reasons like: you have changed your computer, or a computer part related to our algorithm, or as I wrote before in specific cases there may be other reasons. We are basically liberal according to the reset of the activation, as after you have paid for the software you must be able to use it properly according to the license. So nobody should be worried or to hesitate to contact us if his legal copy of Revo Uninstaller Pro should be re-registered.

Bruce Looking to me like the product and the company support is very good, as I had just contacted devs recently with some questions and they provided prompt and useful answers.
(Even granted that my questions probably seemed a bit technical and off the usual path...)

So even though I have not had time to fully test the Pro version, my experience with the Revo Free for last few years is very solid and very good. And I don't want to miss the special price which is definitely good.

Plus, one last thought, is that I have gotten such good use from Revo Free over the last few years, that I am actually happy to be able to buy the Pro version, and thus contribute to the support and development of their good Uninstaller tools.

VLM Robert, I agree with SoftCollector, I've been using Revo Pro for at least 2 years and Revo FREE for at least a year before that. I've never experienced any problems with installations, reinstallations, upgrades, or the like ... not even a hint of a glitch. Vasil really does appear to have this handled quite well, given his current approach, IMO. And Vasil speaks the truth in this regard: his support is timely, on-target, and helpful in every way. And not just with respect to activations and the like.

Bruce, I agree, the pro version is worth it just to support Vasil & Co.

Garry Camps i am a gamer and often change hardware to play the latest games or programs, how would i be affected by the hardware fingerprinting ? would i need to buy a NEW license each time i changed my hardware in my pc ?.

it says in the policy section that only minor updates are free, what does minor mean ?. you also say that major updates are discounted only if you have the latest major version, does this mean that if i was to buy today, then i would need to pay the FULL price for the next major upgrade which as you stated is sometime next year ?. this would mean that your not even giving FREE updates for a year, which is the norm for most other software.

Tsvetan Marinkinski Hi Garry, No of course you will not have to buy a new license on every hardware change, there is no problem to reset your activation when it is necessary to reactivate the software. And you will not have to contact us for a reset after every hardware change.
About the update policy, current major version is 2, so buying a license now you will be able to update the product for free until version 3.0 is released, that will be the next major version. Yes, our current plans are to release 3.0 before the end of that year, but if you buy a license for version 2.x you will be able to upgrade to 3.0 with a significant discount

Michael R. I'm not so experienced with these uninstallations. Mostly either I want to keep a program or, if I installed it, to try it out, I'll jump back to a former created backup.

On the other side this seems to be an opportunity today...

Can I see with Revo all the system-changes like adding directories/files and registry-changes, which occured during the installation of a program (in a comfortably way)?

Is it possible when having installed a program under Revo's supervision (some time later) to create kind of a setup-program which would allow to install this program on another computer (e.g. if the original setup-file was no more found)?

If yes,
(a) Is it necessary that Revo is also installed on this other computer?
(b) Can this be done (with a certain percentage of success) when the original program was installed before Revo?

Is Revo 2.x still working (with a minor update) with the upcoming Win8?

Is this not (yet) available continuation-of-logging-after-reboot -feature planned for the next major release? Can you tell what (else) did you plan for the next release?

Thanks a lot...

Tsvetan Marinkinski Hi Michael,
Yes, after the log is created using the "Custom Uninstall" command on the log you can review logged items as well as uninstall a single one or all of them
At the moment it is not possible to create such kind of a setup-program
We haven't made official compatibility tests with Windows 8 yet, we will deeply test and start working on the compatibility of Revo Uninstaller Pro with Win 8 after the official Beta is released, as far as I know later this month.

As there are still many months till the next major release I prefer not to reveal any of the significant improvements. Also the list of improvements is still updated
About the reboot handling, the technology that we are using at the moment limit us, but we haven't abandoned that feature as it is one of the main disadvantages of the product

Sputnik Today I was almost ready to buy Revo Uninstaller Pro but I suddenly realized that I have never tested the Pro version and that I was in fact only relying on the reputation of this software. I then said to myself : "Well, give it a try !".

After installation of Revo, I uninstalled a software which was never monitored by Revo and after the uninstallation with the regular uninstall.exe of the program I made an advanced scan for the remains and uninstalled all what was proposed which was clearly related to the uninstalled program.

I then opened Total Uninstall with which the initial installation of the just uninstalled program was monitored, just to look at the state of the log concerning the uninstalled program. There was full of entries (registry keys, files and folders) clearly related to the uninstalled program which was still there in the log but also in the registry and in the file system themselves : I scrupulously made all the necessary verifications in the registry and in the file system themselves.

First constatation : the alleged advanced algorythm of Revo for the after uninstallation scan still need to be perfectioned.

I then installed a program under the monitoring of both Total Uninstall and Revo (this thing is clearly possible without any negative interaction between the two uninstallers).

After the program was correctly installed, opened just one time and closed right away, I first completed the Revo's monitoring and after that the Total Uninstall's one.

Then I just checked the way Revo is working concerning the monitored programs. There is two basic ways to uninstall the monitored programs with Revo. First a regular uninstall process with which the user will not see anything about what is uninstalled : with this one, everything which was recorded by Revo is reverted back to its initial state. The second uninstall process is a custom one by which you will see all the changes done to the registry and to the file system, leaving you the choice to choose what will be reverted back to its initial state.

If you choose to uninstall a program without any interaction of your part, some changes not really related to the program will be reverted back to their initial state. If you want to revert back to their initial state only the changes really related to the program, you will have to proceed with the second way of uninstallation, which is the custom one.

Total Uninstall offers the two same ways to uninstall the monitored program but with a slightly different approach. The first big difference here is that with each monitored program, Total Uninstall will produce a log of all the changes which have been done in the computer. You may easily take a look at the produced log and clearly see all the changes which has occured during the installation of a program. If you want to uninstall a program without any interaction of your part you just have to uninstall the software straight ahead without consulting the log. If you want to verify by yourself what will be uninstalled by Total Uninstall, you just have to take a look at the log and remove from it the items you think are not related to the program and after that you proceed to the uninstallation of the program.

I prefer this way of proceeding because you may easily see all the changes which have occured in your computer by the installation of a program without initiating the uninstallation process, what you are obliged to do with Revo.

A second point is that you cannot change anything to the log of a monitored program with Revo but that you can with Total Uninstall.

This way of proceeding allows one to clear from the log what is really not related to a monitored program and this done, you have the option to create a backup of the monitored program which will allow you to reinstall the complete software with the only help of his backup : you don't need anymore the the regular setup.exe of the program to reinstall it if you wish.

With this short analysis, not all of which each of these uninstallators can do have been studied, but the most important points of the central uninstallation process have been.

I have tried to do the most objective analysis I was able of concerning these two excellent uninstallators, but my final choice still remains with Total Uninstall which, under these most central aspects, is clearly one or two notches over Revo.

Tsvetan Marinkinski Robert, thank you for trying Revo Uninstaller Pro and for posting your analysis.
Your first constatation is true and we are improving our algorithms with every new version and we also advise our users to monitor their new installation and to use the logs for the uninstall, as the uninstall with a properly monitored log is always better or in worst case equal to the results from the uninstall with analysis. The reasons are that the analysis depends on the information that we are able to get and work with searching for the program's data and the analysis should balance between safety and accuracy.
Otherwise among our past and current priorities that probably mostly differs us from our competitors is that we are trying to make Revo Uninstaller easy to work with, with clear and reasonable, not over crowded user interface.

bai bai The monitor feature is good. I have some ideas for you?

1. Can I call revo in the commanderline? i.e. revo -uninstall setup.exe.
So I can write a user command to setup everytime with monitor feature.

2. Can revo pro provide a "true" monior featue. I mean there is a agent in the tray. When files named with "install or setup" runs, the agent starts a dialog giving you a choice to monitor setup. Total Uninstaller has this feature. It make life easier.(I always forgot to use the monitor feature myself)

3. Make back and restore better. Revo pro has a basic backup feature. If develop can improve it, backup the installed program as a package which can restore in new system or new mechine. Revo will be greater than any other backup software (No backup software can backup installed program perfect today).

4. Background Analyzing. When uninstalling programs, it takes time to analyze the program. Why not analyze all installed programs in the idle time? (Such as defrag HDD program). It will save a lot of time.

5. Chinese Special Price. I am a Chinese and I found revo supports "Alipay Payment". But the price is high for Chinese people. The price in bitsdujour is ok, Why not a special price like this for china? If the price is nice, your software will be more popurlar.

Currently from the Options-Traced Programs you can exclude Registry entries - keys and values, and listed items there are excluded for all logs (they are shown in Red color in Custom Uninstall and won't be deleted).
Otherwise for your specific case with Firefox, you may try to add the main executable file of Firefox (or if that files are added to the log because of the start of another program if you know which is that program you may add its exe file) to the "Exclude Processes" list - from Options-Traced Programs - Processes Tabs
Also yes we are considering to add such Exclude list of files in the future that to be ignored on every uninstall
We will be grateful if you contact us on our support email with more info which are these Firefox file and report to us one or more names of programs that you have traced and their logs consist of that wrong files, to try to reproduce the problem and investigate, as we may be able to offer you a workaround now.

Quill Pen EVERY software developer "should" as a matter of course provide an uninstaller that completely erases all trace of their software. Sadly, most don't bother and even software with an uninstall.exe usually fail to remove all footprints and detritus.
Microsoft "should" have an Add/Remove process that removes all traces of software, but then when has Microsoft ever done the right thing?
So, here's an unqualified thumbs up... Revo's been king of the hill for as long as I can remember. How I wish I could afford this Pro version at such a ridiculously low price, but in this economy I've zero discretionary income. sigh I am grateful for Revo's generous free version.
Only complaint I've ever heard comes from new users who don't read instructions and don't understand file structure. "Drill down the path" should come second nature but they click everything checked which can inadvertently trash other programs as effectively as an unsupervised registry cleaner.

Learn to log all your installations. Be sure not to run anything else during an installation or else it may be recorded as something to be uninstalled later.

The ability to edit install logs is awesome. Finally don't count on the "canned" install logs offered by Revo. They are very limited and it's likely you will never use them.

The privacy/cleaner features are OK, but you're more likely to use Ccleaner. You won't find a better deal than this one.

Tsvetan Marinkinski Hi Ron r, Revo Uninstaller Pro can trace installations, but there is no feature that makes backup of the installed programs based on the information in the log, so the backup feature you are asking is not implemented yet.

@ Joyce Dias, Not sure that I completely understood you, but if you are asking about files with specific files extension created and used by a specific program that you have already uninstalled, then probably you should use the Junk File Cleaner (JFC) tool of Revo Uninstaller Pro and add that file extension to the list of extensions (located in the Options) JFC scans for. Otherwise if you want to search for and remove leftovers of the uninstalled program than you can try the Forced Uninstall feature.

Tsvetan Marinkinski Thank you for the details Joyce, indeed the JFC may find and delete some leftover temporary or unnecessary files related to the software you had, but I am not 100% sure that this will help you to delete that video file. For such message " it says the file is being used by another program" you may try to use another program - Unlocker (it is free). It should be able to detect the program that is using that video file and help you to "detach" it and then delete is successfully.

I have used the free version of this (which is still available, but if you can afford it, the paid version is SOOOO worth it) for so many years I can't count, and upgraded to the paid version almost immediately after it came out. I have upgraded every version since then, and it is one of the very first programs I install if I build a new machine.

I don't know of any other product out there that can even come close to the pro version of Revo ;-) -- for those of us that are regulars here, it is a MUST HAVE as we all install way too much software that doesn't get thoroughly cleaned out with a regular uninstall!!! he he he

Just my 2 cents for today -- and no, I have absolutely no affiliation with Revo other than having been a very happy customer for a couple of decades or so now...

Tsvetan Marinkinski Hi Gareth, your purchase is confirmed, so you should have received the license data automatically, so check your spam/junk folder. Just in case we will resend it again.

@ Tom Colvin, Yes, you can remove Revo Uninstaller Freeware 1.94 and there will not be any problem with the Pro version. Both versions Freeware and Pro are completely independent so removing one of them doesn't affect the other.

@ DroidLuvr, thank you for your feedback and support on our product and for the additional advice helping on Joyce Dias

Peter Thompson Great program. I'm not someone who buys a lot of programs but this is one of those programs that's well worth the cheap price. I use CCleaner usually and it has an uninstaller and a separate registry key remover but the two don't work in unison like this program and I've came across programs that are hard to remove before.

Rich OBrien I've been using Revo Uninstaller Pro for years, use it exclusively for uninstalling all software and highly recommend Revo. You can't appreciate how important this software is for doing a clean uninstall until you run it and encounter a program that uninstalls but leaves 600 files behind along with countless entries in the Windows Registry. Revo Uninstaller Pro finds and cleans up these messes. I'm sure it was Bits Du Jour that brought Revo to my attention years ago and I am so ever thankful.

Tsvetan Marinkinski Hi Alan Sawyer, yes it counts for one computer and you need a license for one computer. But to be able to register the product on that virtual machines you will have to contact our support team to update your account with the number of virtual machines you want to use the program, as for our activation/registration algorithm virtual machines are other computers. Also Revo Uninstaller Pro is 30 days fully functional trial, so if you reset your virtual machines very often you can use the trial period.

Some files on a system do 'lock-up' sometimes and so cannot be deleted. If it is a simple job then maybe a utility such as Unlocker will allow you to delete your video(s) when this is impossible to do while in Windows Explorer (your file manager). By the way Unlocker will also allow you to detach a USB memory stick if the system says the stick is still in use. Saves ripping it out and then maybe corrupting the stick and losing all your data.

If the problem is tougher then you could try MoveOnBoot (it is free). This will delete a file as your machine boots up. Yet another way to get rid of a problem file.

I was going to write this a couple of days ago but thought it best to let the developer of Revo answer such questions. I also thought it not wise to give suggestions because this forum is not about providing general help but more for the developer to say what his software can do. I have no connection with Unlocker or MoveOn Boot. I have used them and they are very good tools.

gail f Love my Revo Pro, I have version 2 so upgrading is a little cheaper, glad this offer made me aware to go do that.

My one wish for future development would be to add serial numbers/registration codes as a column that we could really use when we use the export to Excel function. That is the hardest part of getting a new system is trying to find all the installation serials for programs! Having iright with the program name would be a huge plus. Right now Belarc will do it but the ir report is somewhat limited in the software it includes.

thanks!

I haven't had occasion to use the software yet, but based on all the comments here, I'm fully expecting it to become a program I get to know well. (And registration was one of the fastest and easiest I've ever done.)

NegoDan Yes I agree about the discounted price of $ 15 reported to my discount to $ 19 for Your Uninstaller 7! Is just the Licensing deal which is pretty tight to Machine ID-activation is required with a hardware footprint, and 1 installation per footprint? In comparison, Your Uninstaller 7 even using a/PC license it is not going that far with the rules. Again, is every one's option though. Cary Adams Hey Procrastinators... Don't wait any longer. Hit that "Buy Now" button for one of the best software values you'll be proud to own. There is none better.

I misspoke earlier when I said I had 2 licenses,... actually I have 3!

In addition to "normal" uninstalls I use RIP frequently to monitor test installs where sandboxing falls short.

One feature I'd like to see added is the option to backup the registry when doing logged uninstalls (RIP does this for unlogged uninstalls).

VLM Cary Adams - I believe you mean "RUP", not "RIP". :):)

Terry Lee - If you mean PerfectUninstaller at perfectuninstaller.com, it gets a DISASTROUS rating on Web of Trust. Based upon that, I wouldn't touch it with a ten-foot pole.

Revo Uninstaller has been around for years. The developer is consistent, the software well-conceived and extremely stable and reliable, the user interface as close to perfect as I suppose it can be, and the support superb. By "superb", I don't just mean timely and accurate. I mean, for example, that the developer has sometimes whipped up a customized configuration file or the just to make Revo work with this or that other tool that was not properly implemented in some respect. (Think Windoze Explorer. :)

The developer does NOT whip out a new, useless version each year; major upgrades really are major upgrades, and there have been only two of these in the history of this product. VERY fair, VERY reasonable.

As others have commented, IMO there simply is no better tool for this job, and again IMO, given the silliness of Microsoft's Add/Remove Programs "tool", this one is a "must have".

For those who already have a license, the current upgrade price is a bit better than this BDJ price. But for those buying for the first time, this is a great opportunity.

Alexander Deliyannis Vasil, I've read more than enough recommendations to convince me that the program is worth registering, but I have a very practical issue: my main PC is a notebook which I use either as stand-alone or hooked up to a big monitor thanks to this http://www.fujitsu.com/ft...prR07.html

I've had serious problems with Machine-ID activation procedures before, because each time I connect or disconnect the port replicator, the software thinks I have installed it in a new machine. Do you expect the same to happen with Revo?

I guess I could arrange it so that I only use the program in one of the two modes (connected or disconnected) since it's not as if I would need it on a daily basis. But if there's a more convenient solution I'd like to hear about it.

Gde Swart Revo Uninstaller is an absolute necessity IMO. Its one of the first 5 programs I install on a Windows PC. I used to think uninstall meant uninstall, but the majority of programs leave so much junk behind after being "uninstalled" its really unbelievable. The major software companies are probably the worst offenders too.
While the free version provides a valuable service, the Pro version is worth every penny since it adds some very nice features. The "Install with Revo Uninstaller" right-click tool is amazing as uninstalling a "Traced Program" results in almost instantaneous removal. If you like to evaluate software (and you probably do if you're on BDJ) you really want this program.
Feb 10 2014 at 12:21pm Copy Link

Bo Grimes Another feature I love. The logs database.

"'Logs Database' module of Revo Uninstaller Pro shows a list of logs of traced programs that is compatible with your Windows system. These logs stored on our web site are maintained by Revo Uninstaller Pro's team. You can easily use (with one click on the button "Uninstall") these logs to uninstall programs installed on your computer."

I am very diligent about what gets installed, especially from somewhere like CNET, but a a few weeks ago the nasty My PC Backup slipped past me. The "built-in" uninstaller of course didn't work. But the logs database took it right off.

This time except from our mailboxes we will write you from a common web based mail service to avoid any problem with your mail server. Roger McIntosh OK, Vasil, I was finally (after many months) able to relicense.
I did look carefully through email spam and did not see emails (and tried many times to reapply license). But it's working now.
Apparently the licensing of this product is ultra strict, because the only thing that changed was one hard drive (due to a failure) and this required manual intervention by Revo to free up the paid license.

Thanks.

CodeDog @Palle,

You're right about it being a good price today for the software, and at that price buying multiple licenses wouldn't be a huge deal.

But, for people like me who own and use a lot of software, it's not just the purchase price. The devil is in the update costs. I don't mind companies charging for updates, not a problem. However, when you use 3-4 computers that means every time a paid update comes out you're paying for 3-4 license updates. That adds up.

I'm not sure what John H. was referring to, but I do know that these days most companies acknowledge that many home users have multiple computers, and allow for that in their licensing. Not for an OS, naturally, but for most other things. My office suite, video editors, audio editors, graphics software, and most of my utilities are all licensed that way.

I don't even mind paying a couple dollars more for a 'home' license for a program as long as I don't have to keep paying multiple upgrade fees...

Tsvetan Marinkinski @ John H - Hi, If I understood your comment right, I think it is more a marketing approach how you named the license packages. For me what is important is the price per computer. A license for 4 computers here and now costs $31.40. On our web site we sell 1,3,5 computers licenses, but we may rename them to single computer license(for 1 computer), small family license( for 3) and big family license(for 5). If the license package is limited to computers number there is no difference. Another approach is if the license allows you to install the software on unlimited number of computes in your house or office

John H @Vasil Georgiev. "For me what is important is the price per computer."

The management of the license scheme turns a simple utility into another software management project to put on the maintenance list. It is not just about the money. I keep a long term view of managing my computer system.

What is important to me is the utility I get for the price I pay. I would probably use this maybe twice a year during maintenance periods. I am rather focused on what I do with my machines. I only have 3 apps on my Android phone. Since I have redundant computers and backups, I do not need to invest in expensive software to rescue a single critical computer.

I have an old Vista laptop to try out questionable software. I never had a problem with it.

Zoner Photo Studio and my CAD program are the only two single computer licenses I own. I have multiple CAD licenses because my life revolves around Computer Aided Design. The most excellent Zoner Photo Studio is only on one computer and I can live with that.

Your software has an excellent reputation even outside BDJ!

Watcher1924 Hi. Thanks for the offer. I have been using the freeware editions (portable and installed) for a long time. Is there a problem if we use both of them on the same computer? Since a long time ago it started showing the same date for many programs (more than 100 for each of the two dates I have noticed until now). It's not about system components or something but for programs that I have - in most of the cases - installed one by one.

Also, is it supposed to be closed by pressing the "X" button (because when I do that it makes the CPU work intensively for few minutes (NOT cool), so I was wondering if we are supposed to close it in another way)?

Note: I have turned the icons off.

Tsvetan Marinkinski @Software Babe - Hi, this is the quoted answer from the support person at cleverbridge - "Customers should only be charged tax in California for physical products. I tried to place a test order and couldn't replicate the tax issue. Could you ask the customer to send a screenshot of the shopping cart, or a reference number that he generates so we can look into this " So if you want to help us in the investigation of the issue, I will be grateful if you send us a screenshot or the reference number at our support mails.

@Watcher1924 - Hi, I don't think there is a problem to use the portable and installed version on one and the same computer ,they should not interfere, as the portable one keeps its settings in its folder. As for the dates it depends on do you see a recent date or not, as the program reads the dates from the Registry and if some other program modifies the uninstall keys of the programs the dates at Revo Uninstaller will be changed. It will be better to send us a screenshot or continue the investigation of the problem with our support team by emails. Also yes the program is supposed to close pressing the "X" button, and we have not been notified about such problem until now

I'm considering a 3 to 5 machine license, but want to make sure it's going to be worthwhile.

2. When the major version arrives, will this one continue to function, only without technical support?

Thanks.

Tsvetan Marinkinski @ John Hood - Yes, 3.1.1 is the latest version and current deal is for the same version

@User1 - Hi, We do not have a scheduled date for the release of the next version, but we are not planning it in the next one year, more probably in the next year and a half. When the next major version is released, the previous one continue to function and our support team continue to provide free technical support on all previous versions of Revo Uninstaller Pro

VLM One more strong vote for Revo Uninstaller. Great software, beyond great support ... the Revo team has even provided code snippets to work around shortcomings in software from other companies. At this price, a no-brainer.

One comment: The Fine Print states: "Online license activation is required with a hardware footprint, and 1 installation per footprint." This is simply not true. The Revo team will allow you to reinstall your software as needed, whether on the same or a different machine. They are excellent .... and very timely ... in every respect.

Tsvetan Marinkinski Hi Peggy, you shouldn't have any problems to register your copy of Revo Uninstaller Pro with the serial number you have received. Just be sure you copy and paste the serial number, as it is case sensitive and includes small and capital letters and enter any user name you want as registration name in the activation form. Then press "Activate Online" button and if their is any problem for example your firewall is blocking Revo Uninstaller Pro you will be notified about this, so try again letting Revo Uninstaller Pro to connect the Internet or use Offline activation option. If you still have problems please contact our support team at support (at) revouninstaller.com and they will assist you as soon as possible, just report what message or error you see. Also if necessary download and install the program again from our web site

Tsvetan Marinkinski Hi Peggy, most common reason for that is if you have missed to enter user name in the activation form, or if you have missed to copy-paste the whole serial number as provided, as even if it is one symbol shorter the Activation button will be disabled as the serial number is not complete

James Evans Is it necessary for Revo Uninstaller Pro to monitor/log the original install of software for it to do a better job than Windows install/uninstaller?

I, like many others, already have a lot of software installed on machines and am wondering if purchasing Revo Uninstaller now can improve the removal of software previously installed by Windows and without Revo being on the machine.
Nov 28 2014 at 6:44am Copy Link

Tsvetan Marinkinski Hi James, No, when you uninstall a program with Revo Uninstaller Pro it first starts the built-in uninstaller of the program (which is started by "Programs and Features" applet too when you uninstall programs from there) and then starts scanning for leftover Registry items, files and folders and most cases it will found tens or thousands of leftovers. The setup is fully functional trial so you can install the program and make few uninstalls and then see the results and take advantage of the promo here or skip it if you are not satisfied.

nylg Does the purchase of a licence(s) include both, say a download of the install pro version, and say the portable version? Or could you purchase say one licence for the install version and say one licence for the portable version?

Does the portable pro version have the full feaure set, and more importantly. the functionality to do a 'full clean'/uninstall etc as does the Pro install version?

Regarding install Pro vs Poartable Pro is it the case that you have decide at the time of purchase exactly which one you want? For instance, if in the future you wanted to use your licence key to maybe be able to swap i,e, to use say the Portable version of vice-a-versa, then is this type of thing easily allowable?

I hope I have not complicated things too much by asking such a lot of maybe quite searching type questions. I merely ask because some software developers sometimes have all sorts of variations when they offer both an install version and also a portable version. Ihope also that I am not the only person wondering about this on this forum.

Many thanks for your advice on this

Tsvetan Marinkinski Hi nylg, The promo here is only for the setup (install) version and buying a license from here you get a serial number only for the setup\install version. The same is valid if you purchase from our web site - we sell portable and setup version separately and you get different serial number for any of them and you can't use one of them to activate the other version.

Setup version and portable version are absolutely the same as functionality and user interface, but the portable version doesn't have a trial period and we advise the users to install the setup version and test it 30 days for free if they ask for testing time. Except the lack of trial period the other difference is activation algorithm, but that is not important for the user I mentioned it as of course the license of the portable version allows the program to be used on unlimited number of computers and the licensing is per user not per computer as of the setup version.

Indeed we do not offer a pack of both setup and portable version, because we assume that if someone own the portable version he will not need the setup version, based on the fact that they are the same as functionality and the portable version can be placed on the hard drive of a given computer and used as a regular installed program.

Tsvetan Marinkinski Hi wyndham wales, my advice is just to install the new version over the existing one, without uninstall of the version of Revo Uninstaller Pro you have. No matter if your old version is 2.x or 3.x making a new install over the existing version will keep all your data and settings of the program and update the program properly.

Steve Amos Just to double check...

You have said that the portable version is exactly the same as the install version.

This means that the portable version also supports Real-Time
Installation Monitor? I would have thought that something like that would require installation.

Would you please confirm that all features of the install version are supported by the portable version, especially with respect to the real time installation monitor?

On a personal note, I would like to say that I'm disappointed that this deal does not apply to the portable version. While I wouldn't expect the portable version, which costs nearly twice as much as the install version, to be offered for the same low price, SOME sort of discount on the portable version would have been appreciated. I really don't have use for an application I need to incessantly monitor and count the installs for. And this software is very desirable and well respected and would have been nice to have the portable version for a hot deal price. I will probably still get the portable version, but it won't be quite as much fun.

Thank you in advance.

Tsvetan Marinkinski Hi Steve,Thank you for your feedback. Yes, the portable version is absolutely the same as the setup version and the monitoring module is working properly, just the context menu command "Install with Revo Uninstaller Pro" is not available by default - you can turn it on\off from the options, but you can use the "Install Programs" button from the main toolbar of the program. I understood your point and disappointment, at the current deal, for the price of the portable you can buy licenses for 10 computers, which may be better for some users, but of course depends on the personal needs.

Your answer pretty much cinches it for me; the portable version is what I want.

Cary Adams Just another long time satisfied user here... if you're on the fence, this is likely the last day you'll see this deal offered for many, many months.

I've tried other uninstallers, and although many seem to do a decent job, you never really know until months later when a long ago registry deletion error is causing untold grief.

With Revo, I have confidence that even with the most aggressive uninstall features turned on, my system is safe.

FWIW I used to log all my installs w/Revo, but no longer as it seems to be quite effective with the log trail, and logging gets complicated when reboots are required. So if you are concerned with all the programs you've installed prior to purchasing Revo, worry not, as this uninstaller will prove most useful.

Kelly Hamblin I really want to grab this deal. BUT I want the app for my touchy, buggy, now virus infected Win 7 computer, not this one, my lovely XP system.

Will there be a problem if I purchase it today, download the setup file to my XP computer, and then - when the Win7 gets sorted out - install it on that computer? To be perfectly clear: I would not install it on the XP, just hold the setup file here or on a flashdrive until I am able to use the other computer with some degree of safety.

Does it find 32-bit and 64-bit applications NOT normally found in Windows Uninstaller feature? peter schleifer To bits:

Whenever I buy software here, you invariably flow my account with daily advertising. Here with Revo Uninstaller, it's the same again, albeit my having UN-checked the box "Allow Bits to send you...".

I then had to click on the unsubscribe link again, Friday, and as always, was bothered with "Wait, do you really want to unsubscribe? Give reasons, blah, blah" - I again went thru all this in order to not be bothered by you every day and day.

Now, Saturday, I get another mail, "Last chance to get Revo Uninstaller at 75 % off", in spite of my DOUBLE unsubscribing: Soon, we will need special mail addresses just for bits, since you don't respect even lenghty double de-unsubscribing anymore.

All this is not only perfectly illegal by European law (European Union), but also, it makes your European customers think twice about buying from yours, since all this is an incredible nuisance.

Many customers look up your site daily, in order to see if there's another offer they might buy, but do NOT want to receive daily mail advertising. As said, this is an extreme nuisance, again and again recurring for every single purchase with bits.

Tsvetan Marinkinski First, sorry for the late replies,
@Kelly Hamblin - Hi, of course no problem to purchase the program from this deal and download and install and use later. The serial number is valid for any 3.x version.

@Jeff Hubert - Hi, by design Revo Uninstaller Pro lists all applications installed - 32 bit and 64 bit on all drives(including portable and external ones) or wherever they are installed, but they must be installed on the current Windows where you run Revo Uninstaller Pro. Revo Uninstaller Pro gets the information about the installed application from the Registry, so if there is information about a particular application Revo Uninstaller will list it and give the opportunity to uninstall it. Revo Uninstaller Pro also has some algorithms to list some programs that had been installed but not completely uninstalled and there is uninstall data remnants, but Windows applet "Programs and Features" doesn't list them. The setup is 30 days fully functional trial, so you can install it and see the list of programs.
About the browser tools and plug-ins, a specific feature for uninstall of browsers' toolbars and plugins is not available yet, but if the toolbar is installed as setup program Revo Uninstaller Pro will list it and help you uninstall it.

@peter schleifer - Hi, yes if you have bought a license for two computers you get one serial number that can activate the program on two computers

VLM Kelly Hamblin - I speak "only" as a user, but in my experience, and also based upon the vendor's responses, above, you can definitely do as you desire. You can install it on the XP machine, then uninstall it and move it to the Win 7 machine; you just have to write to tech support to allow for a new hardware foot print. Of course, if the software just site on your XP machine, then your Win 7 install will be your first one, no need for tech support in that case.

Cary Adams Best in class. I've been using "pro" for years now, though I've quit using the installation logger. There are just too many programs (I'm looking at you Google, Microsoft and Adobe) that update themselves in the background, and these get picked up by the installation logger. As a result the uninstaller log may inadvertently remove functionality of exist programs (ahhhh... remember the days of shared dlls.... different problem, same result). It has been my practice to let the uninstaller run its course, and follow-up that with advanced scan (reviewing the scan results prior to invoking their deletion).

There's also several "tools" that all-in-once cleaners (CCleaner) are my everyday choices.

If I had one request, it would be that the "unrecoverable" delete tool be integrated with explorer's right cick shell menu.

Those caveats aside, Revo remains unmatched by other uninstallers. And at this price is is an "auto-buy".

Also, I find it has too many options and ends up being confusing.

Tsvetan Marinkinski @Chris Roy Jackson, By default all information is saved in the folder for Revo Uninstaller Pro Portable. A special folder called "Data" is created that contains the information. No data for the use of the Portable version should be found on your computer if you are using it from a portable device.

Wouldn't that get VERY Confusing if I were doing Installations on multiple computers ??? Is there a reason that it Would NOT be prudent to separate Installations on various computers ???
Or is that being done and I did not ask the question PROPERLY ???
I would like to know HOW the Portable version determines what it is uninstalling and WHETHER (or Not) it has recorded any particular Installation for the CURRENT UnInstall !!! ???

Thank You !!!

Tsvetan Marinkinski @Chris Roy Jackson Basically the folder Data contains separate folders for each computer on which you have started Revo Uninstaller Pro Portable. That way the program will recognize if you have used the Portable version before on that computer and what changes have been made (uninstalled program, traced logs, etc.)

Scott Van Leeuwen I do not really wish to purchase software at US$9.95 and then find 2 months down the track that this offer was to get subscribers on board so REVO can charge an upgrade fee of their choosing. Something doesn't smell right.

The licensing of Revo Uninstaller Pro is per major versions.
If you purchase Revo Uninstaller Pro 3.x you will receive all minor updates for free. When version 4.x is released you will be given the option to keep using the latest version of 3.x . Your license will be still valid and usable. We will be still offering you a free support. You will not be charged again for your license for version 3.
The upgrade to the newest major version is optional.

Steven Aves People interested in Revo license,
The price for upgrades, multiple computers, how long you have on the current deal license before there is an upgrade you need to buy - IT'S WORTH THE SMALL AMOUNT OF MONEY.

Seriously, it's a very good deal today and you will be money and your time ahead - just buy the pro.

Presiding Chaplain for Vibrant Life and Successors Greetings everyone! I've posted very favorable comments during past Revo promotions on BDJ, and I'd like to do so again, responding to some of the criticisms made by others.

First, Revo Uninstaller is one of the core applications I install on any Windows machine. No uninstaller can be perfect, but I have found Revo to be close. I recently used it to unravel a problem with Firefox uninstallation -- which, by the say, is amazingly difficult, given the open source nature of the application. Another story for another time, perhaps. The point is that I was patient, tried several things, and finally Revo did the job.

Second, to Trekkerman and others regarding payment for upgrades, I have owned paid versions of Revo for many years. I paid for version 2 way back when, and a couple of years ago I paid for version 3. Thus, the license is neither annual nor lifetime. Paid upgrades are triggered by major version releases, which do NOT occur annually. This is definitely NOT a vendor that grabs for an annual upgrade fee, nothing could be father from the truth. And frankly, their support, when needed, is worth many times the cost of the product, even if it WERE upgrades annually. But it isn't, not by any means.

Third, the portable version works fine across multiple machines, I have found the explanation offered above by Tihomir Hinchev (regarding machine-specific subfolders in the Data folder) to be correct.

Finally, IMO today's promotion provides a superb offer, for those interested.

Best regards to all.

Software Babe @Stan. I reformatted my hard drive and when I opened up my Portable Revo that I saved from the Program Files directory, it did ask me for my Registration number, which I input. Now it is the PRO version but PORTABLE, so IT DOES WORK the way I explained. Hardware has nothing to do with it. I had also changed out my hard drive from 640GB to 2TB AND put a NEW W7 SP1 from a new DVD I purchased. I was using the HP OEM discs which were HORRIBLE.

Revo is a fine piece of software. I just wish Microsoft would make their OSs perfect from the start. I am an SE by degree and I know that any software that has THAT MANY UPDATES AND UPGRADES employ some uninformed and maybe not trained well, SEs. I can understand the SECURITY updates to make the OS more secure, but UPDATES/UPGRADES to the OS (other than for hardware drivers) CONSTANTLY on an OS? Please........ Microsoft sucks big time. I love Linux, and I wish Revo would make their software for that OS. I have a CD that boots into Linux, so I use that a lot because it is such a FAST OS. Microsoft software is enough to drive a person mad.

REVO however, is one of the finest tools I have ever used. IT IS WORTH EVERY PENNY.

Richard User I used the free version of Revo Uninstaller for many years and was quite happy with it. Two years ago when I finally had to make the move off of Windows XP, I discovered that free Revo only handles 32-bit apps and doesn't "see" 64-bit apps. Frankly, I thought the full asking price was a little steep, so I just went back to the regular old Windows Control Panel app. Now I am happy to see this promotion at a much more attractive price point. I look forward to getting back on the Revo bandwagon when this promotion goes live (tomorrow?).

nylg If you buy one, or even more than one licence, then do you have to install any, or indeed all of the licenses within say a certain period of time?

I ask, as I am thinking of buying more machines in the future and would like to buy at what I assume is a heavily discounted price. I also note that this offer is for version 3 so it would make sense for anyone who owns several machines to pick-up some licenses now while this deal is on.

I currently use the free version (excellent tool), and now know from reading the comments that it only works on 32 bit systems. Whereas, the paid for Pro version does un-install 64 bit programs typically found on 64 bit systems.

Many thanks for any advice on the question I raise.

Hello Tihomir. Glad to see someone from Revo here.
I had purchased the Pro version a while back (through SharewareOnSale), and installed it on my aging Desktop machine.
A short while later, I had a major hardware failure, and I retired the machine and purchased a laptop.
I tried to install the purchased Pro version on the laptop, using the same serial number that was mailed to me, but it was not accepted.
I wrote to Revo Support a couple of times for assistance, but never received any reply.
I can send you my serial number privately, as well as the name and email I had registered under.
I love Revo Uninstaller, especially the Pro version.
Can you please help?
Also, can I covert my Pro version to portable?

Rich OBrien Once you've seen Revo Uninstaller find and remove 1,600 files AFTER a program's own uninstall has run, you'll be convinced that Revo is essential. Some programs uninstall completely but a surprising number of famous programs do a terrible job of removing all of their files and Windows Registry entries. Revo can also uninstall software that doesn't have its own uninstall program. I've been happily using Revo for eight years. And I wouldn't think of uninstalling software without Revo Uninstaller Pro.

"Strange - but it not have function to automatic trace all new installiations :("

Not sure about this, but the Hunter Mode device has a right click which says autostart with Windows. Some details about this are in the help file.

I have not tried it. I wonder if this starts Revo at system start-up and then it monitors any new installer operations. I wonder if it auto-starts Revo Pro at each and every boot-up?

Maybe the Revo people can advise on exactly how this works. I would like to know because this could be very useful so long as it does not consume too much RAM while running in the background.

I know that the Comodo Programs Manager starts with Windows and it does monitor i.e. logs changes so you can un-install easily. I no longer use this as overall I think Revo Pro is a far better tool.

Thanks

The auto-tracing of new programs is considered as feature that will be added in future versions.
The Hunter mode has the option "Autostart with Windows" When enabled Revo Uninstaller Pro will be started in Hunter Mode with Windows. This will not trace programs new installations automatically, it will only start Revo Uninstaller Pro in Hunter Mode.

"@Steven Avery The license is hardware locked. Once you activate Revo Uninstaller Pro it is registered to the computer according to the activation serve. If you remove the program from the computer this does not unregister it on the server. "

Once again, this seems a bit strange. Most vendors who insist on one user, or one computer (as here) go out of their way to emphasize that if you switch computers the license easily follows. Preferably without having to put in an official request to customer service (bureaucracy).

I was ready to buy two licenses on the current special, but now I have to see if the policy is literally what Tihomir is saying. One activation, one lock, its over.

Adolphe I use the previous-generation paid-for version, Revo Uninstaller Pro 2.5.9. Would anyone know whether there is a real benefit added in the present edition ?

I understand the main new feature is the library of pre-programmed installation logs for a large list of software, which one can use instead of recording installs oneself. Is that of any use ? Is it really an improvement over doing one's own tracking ? Above all, is it reliable ?

I have found that my edition has some general clunkiness about it : unrecorded bits during the install in spite of using the tracking mode, the same software appearing as installed twice because it has been updated, softare appearing randomly in both tracked and non-tracked installattion panels (or not), and a certain general uneasiness about the UI.

I'd love to see an improvement on that, too.

Is it possible to install the free up-do-date version alongside the Pro 2.5.9 without breaking things up, in order to rubberneck inside a little while ?

Tsvetan Marinkinski @Adolphe User The logs in the Log Database can be used if you have not created your own installation log. Beside that there should be no difference between your own and the one in the database. There are other improvements in Revo Uninstaller Pro 3 mostly the improved search algorithms for the leftovers.
It is not possible to install version 2 and version 3 and have it as separate program. However you can always install version 2 and use it with your license.

Cary Adams @Steven.... As one who has switched a license to a new computer, I'd say Revo's response took about a day. But the reality was that I was so occupied setting up the new machine, that I had numerous tasks ahead of me that didn't require Revo Uninstaller. The day's wait was non-issue. Besides, I really never expected to run an uninstall those first few days... instead I was installing and installing and ...

Yet with another product (not Revo's), one which supposedly released the license when uninstalled, I found that process apparently failed to unregister on the suppliers system... another hassle which got resolved in time.

Hardware-based registration is problematic (thank you Microsoft), but I've found Revo to be responsive, If that bothers you greatly, the fact is that you will be hard-pressed to find a comparable program.

I recently uninstalled Chemtable's uninstaller after a few week's run .... it had no provision for forced uninstalls (a problem since it couldn't find many of my installed programs), and it also kept warning me to remove "remnants" of previously uninstalled programs (the problem here was that one of the "remnant" programs was a working install, and since the remnant uninstall feature was "all or none", I couldn't invoke it.

Choose wisely.

Steven Avery Adolphe - you can find a YouTube video specifically on the changes, it may not be official but it does a pretty good job. Revo is generally such a good program that it is hard to come up with super improvements to support monetization with us folks who have the version 2. Some of the changes are in other utility areas, where most of us are quite happy (CCleaner, etc).

However, the company has been so generally good in their software that, if you have a spot of cash the $10-15 seems fine for one or two of the current licenses. There are some nice looking enhancements. However nothing shaking the earth as far as I can tell. I will probably buy the two licenses, partly to be most up to date, partly to support a good solid utility.

Vivaldi The license is hardware locked once installed, but it's very easy to get it unlocked for installation on another computer.

I had a computer die with Revo installed on it. I emailed support, and within hours they had unlocked the license. I installed and updated it on another computer without any problems at all.

Whenever I get another computer (it's frequently - I have more than one) Revo Uninstaller Pro is the first program I install, followed by Malwarebytes, and Windows updates. Revo goes on first because if any later software installations go wrong it's easy to get rid of all the messed up pieces. It's saved me from rollbacks and reinstalls many times!

Adolphe Hi again, I've bought the product, and I'd like some help for install from the Revo representative, please.

I aborted install because the installer does not offer the choice of a folder location for the program. Since I have already Revo Uninstall Pro 2, I understand the present version needs to be installed over the previous one, in order to keep the logs of traced programs.

However, my Revo 2 was installed in a non-standard location. I'm afraid version 3 will now be automatically installed in Program Files or Program Files (x86), and thus botch the upgrade. Thank you.

Tsvetan Marinkinski @Adolphe User Revo Uninstaller Pro 3 will automatically be installed in the same location as version 2. Because of the previous installation you are not asked to choose installation path. It is taken from the Registry

@Shad Gibbons The license does not have expiration date, but it is restricted to version 3 only. You will not be able to activate version 2 or any future version such as 4 or 5 with that serial number.

Sara User I had bought this tool some time ago. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to use it since I don't understand its functioning. Please help.

When you install some software, you first run Revo Uninstaller Pro and set it up to monitor the installation, so far so good. But when you want to uninstall software which you have installed in this way, RUP does not uninstall it on its own, but presents you with a tree in which not only the registry entries of the software are listes which is to be installed, but also their respective parent entries, even when those are parent to sub-entries which are needed for third-party software which is not to be deleted, so instead of a neat deinstall of just the program to be deinstalled, it's a complete mess with sometimes hundreds of entries, parent entries and sub-entries in that tree which then RUP expects you to browse manually, and click on every entry you want to be deleted or not selected. After seeing this, I gave up trying since it's simply too risky to make some mistake within this manual select/deselect process which would then cause even some third-party software not to run correctly anymore. So I suppose I did not understand how RUP works since if it really worked the way I have experienced it, I could not imagine anybody would want to use this program. Thank you very much!

Tsvetan Marinkinski @Sara User When you create an installation log you have two options to use it - Uninstall and Custom Uninstall. If you use the first option you will not be presented with the tree structure and the log will be used. The second option will allow you to choose which exact items you want to remove. Note that only the items in bold wil be deleted. The other items are only shown to visualize full tree structure.
Please contact us at support@revouninstaller.com and we will answer all of your questions.

Sara User Thank you so much, Tihomir, I was almost sure I hadn't understood it correctly and hence did it wrong, so this is confirmed.

I also had mistakenly thought that the "Uninstall" didn't do anything else than the generic Windows uninstall does anyway, so I had thought it to be useless, while in fact, as you say, it will use the install log, too.

So "Uninstall" is "automatic uninstall using the log", and "Custom uninstall" is "ditto but making possible visual checking and manual interaction in case user deems that necessary for a specific reason".

For some deinstalls of mine this comes too late - my fault indeed -, but I think this clarification comes more than handy for any new user who perhaps would risk to make my mistake otherwise.

Thank you so much again!

It's not that it isn't great software just that I hate to pay for something when a new model with extra bells and whistles is just around the corner, a Developer usually loses interest quickly in supporting the older version and wants an upgrade fee. Tsvetan Marinkinski @Alan Blogski: SueW is correct. The license is valid lifetime for the current major version (in this case version 3). Every minor update (3.1.x, 3.2.x, 3.x.x) is free for the license owner.

A new license will be required if the user wishes to upgrade to the next major version (4.x) when it is released. That license will be available at a significant discount for already registered customers.
Regardless whether an upgrade to the newer major version is purchased, the license for the older version will remain valid.

sparkyspark From Revo Uninstaller Pro 4 Frequently Asked Questions

I am a registered user of Revo Uninstaller Pro 3.x, and just bought an upgrade to version 4. Should I uninstall the old version first before installing the new one?

We do not recommend you uninstall version 3 before installing the new version 4 because you will lose your current settings and other user data. The best approach is to install the new version over the existing version, as it will overwrite it, and you will keep your data and settings, just as it happens with minor updates.

Basically NO as the new Version 4 install will overwrite your existing version 3

Adolphe What a pity you put that huge panel on the left. It serves no purpose, but to suppress some of the horizontal space which is badly needed for the various columns qualifying each install log. There were so many things which begged to be corrected in the previous interface ! This is bad cosmetics.

Speaking of cosmetics, you might have got rid of that horrible baby blue + bright yellow which is the hallmark of Microsoft Office 2003. I'm still using it because, well, it's the best, and the alternative is too horrible to contemplate (with all the forced cloudness and software as a service), but at least the current Microsoft Office is much nicer to look at... and completely different from what it was 15 years ago...

Is it possible to reinstall on a new disk, even a different kind?

However if you use a second license to extend the current subscription, you will be added a full year, no matter when the second license was purchased. It is important to use the second license to extend the first subscription before the official expiration date of the second purchase (one or two years after the purchase date)

JW Although I'm very much NOT in favour of this new form of licensing for Revo, I've bowed to the inevitable as it's really one of my 'go-to' programs.
I'd really hoped that in v4 they would make it possible to remove more of the "built-in" MS stuff (like all the Xbox & Skype rubbish) after a clean installation of Windows 10.
Incidentally, worth pointing out that having purchased a 2-yr license, the Receipt from BDJ shows "Upgrades to future versions of the software will be free for 12 months. For versions after that, upgrades will require additional payment, which will be discounted." I guess that either needs to be amended - or else!!

The exact type of the storage drive does not affect Revo Uninstaller Pro.

Adolphe Is there an option to revert to the v.3 interface ? I find the huuuge left column is useless, and eats up precious space on the main part of the detailed view.

How does one keep existing logs while upgrading from v.3 to v.4 ?

Thank you for the feedback!
It is not possible to change the interface to the previous one. However you can change the width of the column in question by placing the cursor on the border with the list of the installed programs. This will allow resizing of the column.
Run the setup for version 4 and this will overwrite your previous installation of Revo Uninstaller Pro keeping your traced logs.

John User I used this for years, but with the growth in the number of computers in use at home the price has gone up for me - the price is per computer rather than per user. Also, it is a hassle when you replace a computer to switch the license, etc.

As a result, I have moved on another uninstaller that was offered here.

If Revo offered a license for a user/unlimited PCs and I would purchase it in a minute.

Revo Uninstaller Pro 4 has the option to deactivate the license from the program. This allows for the license to be deactivated in case you want to transfer the license when replacing computers or changing major hardware components

We do offer a portable version of Revo Uninstaller Pro. That version can be used from USB memory stick or any portable storage devices on each computer you want. For more information about the Portable version you can contact us from our official website

Brian W Recommend stating as:
Revo Uninstaller Pro - 1 Computer / 1 Year of upgrades ($8.25)

because when I saw "1 year" I assumed that they changed to an annual license (software as a service) model, which does not interest me, until I read the details.

John User Thank you for your reply on how to deactivate the license on one computer and reactivate on another. It still seems like it would be better if you could offer a license that is per user vs. per computer.

On your website I see purchasing a license for one year of the portable version of Revo is $29.95 and that there is not trial version at this time.

$29.95 for one year is a bit steep for me. Please consider offering the portable vs here at BDJ in the future at a discounted rate. Thanks. ;-)

Joe M Response to John User.
Look for my previous response about the portable version. I found it inconvenient to always have to keep track of the flash drive. For today's offer of buying Revo 4, it makes it cheap enough to buy multiple copies for all of your computers. I bought a license for 4 computers for 2 years yesterday at a price that was about $4.00 more then the normal everyday price for 1 license for 1 year. I found this offer to be a great deal for me.

J S @Tihomir Hinchev from VS REVO Group Ltd [http://www.bitsdujour.com...tId=144036]

I am glad to see that You/REVO now call the License Model a "SUBSCRiPTiON" [commentId=144036], as that certainly helps to explain the CHANGE of License Model since version 3, for anybody who previously owned v3.x and was entitled to Version Updates at No Extra Cost.

I'm surprised that VS Revo Group felt the need to go to a 'drip-feed' funding model to produce Product Updates for "THE WORLD's MOST POPULAR UNiNSTALLER". (Although I wonder if that will remain the case, as Bit's du Jour buyers in the past have certainly preferred software that they Pay Once & Once Only For, whether the software offered Liftetime Updates and Upgrades or merely Version Updates.

====================

YESTERDAY I wrote comments to You, in the Revo Uninstaller Pro PORTABLE webpage here at Bits du Jour [http://www.bitsdujour.com...ents144032].

I Purchased 4x iNSTALLER Version 3.x in 16-May-2013 (thru Cleverbridge) and since then, I installed only 1 of the 4 and I think I activated it for just 1 uninstallation job. So for me the INSTALLER Version was a really a waste of money (although of course I do still own them and therefore I could still use the outdated product)

Since Yesterday's Comments I did find the Release History information on your website - as well as the download link for the INSTALLER Version of v3.21 (FiNAL v3.x Release)

HOWEVER I STiLL HAVE ONE (1) OUTSTANDiNG QUESTiON:

I would still like an answer to the question about where can I download the Final Release (v3.21?) of the PORTABLE VERSiON? Because I could not find mention of it anywhere on the Revo website?
.
.
Regarding Your REPLY: I presume that Bits du Jour reveal our User/Commenter eMAiL Addresses to VS REVO GROUP.

So, if You would prefer to reply privately to my email address, instead of replying here - for all to see, I will understand. (Perhaps You/REVO may not want to reveal PORTABLE Software URL's to all who may read these comments)

I can supply you ALL my Order Details (Portable version v3.17 purchased 19-Nov-2016 thru Bits du Jour) if you want to check my bonafides (ie. that I'm a genuine license owner).

My kindest regards, as well as thanks for an undoubtedly excellent product.

Tsvetan Marinkinski @John User: We do indeed have sales for the portable version here on BitsDuJour sometimes. However, we cannot say exactly when we will have one again.

@Danny User: The subscription period starts at the time of purchase, not at the time of activaiton. However, if you purchase two licenses, you can use one to extend the other.

@J S: The licenses for Revo Uninstaller Pro versions 2 and 3 were major version based, i.e. purchasing a license provides users with free minor updates (for example 3.0.1, 3.1.1, 3.x.x), however newer/subsequent major versions (3.x, 4.x) require purchasing a new license.
Starting with version 4, the licenses are subscription based. That means that as long as a user has a valid and active subscription, he/she is allowed to install any new version that is released, regardless whether it is a minor update or a major one. All versions released prior to the expiration date of a license will remain functional, i.e. you can use any and all versions that are released up until the expiration date of your license for as long as you like.
In other words, you are subscribing to updates, not to actually using the program.

Generally, we believe that a subscription model would allow and incentivize us to develop and improve our products faster and more efficiently.

The download links for the portable versions are not publicly available. Please contact us via support@revouninstaller.com with information about your order of the portable version, and we will be happy to assist.

Adolphe @ Tihomir Hinchev

I don't understand why you claim you use a subscription model now. I don't see the difference with the previous licensing method. I think you are doing yourselves a disservice here.

To me, a subscription model is one where you rent the program, and it stops working when you stop paying.

However, you do seem to say even if one does not renew the "subscription", one can go on using the program for ever. Just not with updates. You'll be stuck to some earlier point on the update timeline.

It has always been the case, with all programs, that at some point, you needed to pay again if you wanted the new features.

What is at stake here is only the number of updates you get with one payment, and the amount of significant new features you can expect to get in the future for that price.

So what is the subscription about ? Is there a specific duration attached to it ? I completely missed that "subscription switch" before that last comment of yours.

Software Babe I purchased Version 2.5.1 and it still works amazingly well, so WHY WOULD I BUY A YEARLY VERSION and keep paying for it every year???? That makes absolutely no sense to me. But, it is a good UNINSTALLER, but that is all.

Our previous version is major version based. You license will be always valid for the major version that it was purchased for. It will not be compatible with newer major versions.
During the period when your subscription is active you will be receiving all minor and major upgrades for free. If your subscription expires, your license will remain active and usable, but only with versions released before the expiration date. If you purchase version 4 and we release version 5 during the active subscription period, you will be able to upgrade to that version without additional payment.
Currently we are offering one and two years subscriptions. Feel free to contact us through our official site if you want additional information about our subscription model and Revo Uninstaller Pro

I am glad to hear that you find Revo Uninstaller Pro 2 useful.
The new major version offer additional features and improved versions of previously implemented tools.
During the period when your subscription is active you will be receiving all upgrades for free, minor and major.
If your subscription expires, your license will remain active and usable, but only with versions released before the expiration date.
Renewal is required only if you want keep receiving the new versions.

Haydn It looks as though some people are nit quite getting the licencing model. There is no need to keep paying every year! My understanding is that it is follows:

1. You buy version 4 with (eg) 1 year licencing subscription.
2. ANY upgrades in that year are free, be that minor (v4.1) or major (v5, v6).
3. At the end of the year, you no longer qualify for upgrades.
4. However, you OWN the final version you have at the end of the subscription period - so if you got v6 in that year, you own it.
5. You may continue to use that final version once your subscription has ended, but you don't qualify for new updates unless you have a new subscription.

Please feel free to correct me if I am wrong. I am not affiliated to Revo, but do currently use v3, and at this stage not sure I will upgrade to v4.

Dunking @Tihomir - 'Subscription' is a dirty word hereabouts, hence why some customers may have misinterpreted things. Could I make a suggestion that might clarify things? If the facility was called "maitenance subcription", or similar, that might make it clear that the main license is a permanent one and it's only the updates part that is a subscription.

Adolphe @ Tihomir Hinchev

Thank you, now I understand.

So it's a subscription to updates, not to the program itself. And they are limited to 1 or 2 years, whatever the client prefers. That's clear enough.

The system in itself is fair to customers, and rather more transparent than the previous one : if you think new features are valuable enough beyond your subscription expiration, you pay again. If not, you can go on using the program.

Your argument that "we believe that a subscription model would allow and incentivize us to develop and improve our products faster and more efficiently" is interesting. I had not thought of that.

One one hand, it's true, because if you don't deliver enough interesting new features each year, then customers have less reasons to renew.

One the other hand, it was still true with the previous model, although in a more hidden way. The license was good for one major version, and all minor subsequent updates.

But you had the upper hand on deciding what would be called a "major" new version. So you could stop the updating rights even if, in fact, the new version was not that "major", and therefore not that valuable.

All in all, whether the new system will be beneficial to customers depends entirely on the new features you will, actually, implement in the future during a 1 or 2-year time frame, and in the evolution of the price structure.

But I personally think it's better for customers, if only because it's more transparent. You know in advance that you're buying 1 or 2 years of updates, although, of course, there's no way to know the frequency or value of those updates.

But you did not know about that either with the previous system.

I do suggest, though, you could make a better sell of the new system, by making more clear it's not a subscription system in the Microsoft sense of renting the program as a service (and it stops working when you stop paying). That's what many users absolutely hate, me included.

John User OK, pertaining to the subscription issue and being able to use older versions of the software after your subscription has expired....

I reinstalled Windows 10 on my computer after my subscription had expired. I wanted to download Revo, but I was only able to find the newest version online. I downloaded the trial version of that, but it expired in 30 days I believe.

I was using the same computer, but it seems if you need to reinstall a former version of Revo you are out of luck. Is there some way to go back and reinstall a previous version or must you purchase the new version when your version of Revo has expired?

Also, if the older version is located will it still accept a 'expired' license number?

Thank you

Adolphe And another technical / licensing question, before I install the thing I just bought.

The fine print says : 1 installation per hardware footprint. However, one of the new features is you can deactivate the program to activate it on another computer.

So does this mean, if I need to reinstall the system from scratch on the same computer (also, possibly, changing the hardware, such as substituting an SSD for a spinning disk), I can deactivate first and reactivate afterwards ?

Or, if the worst comes to the worst, the system disk is lost, and I need to reinstall from a backup (or possibly downloading the executable from Revo again ?), I can contact Revo to allow a new install ?
