Mike G I already own 2 licenses for home and work and will jump on this discount to cover my laptop. It's a lifetime license which is nice to see these days. Like other commenters, Roboform has served me well for years and I use it virtually every day.

I'm currently running Roboform 7 beta. It has some great features which I would say are long overdue, except the developers have been so busy updating RF to keep it reliable and compatible with new/updated browsers. For saving login info, RF 7 has a nice pop-up ribbon that's integrated into the browser instead of the old standalone dialog box. It also has a new Popular section where items persist longer than the Recently Used list.

Doremi Faso I was reading the license policy. Can some one clarify License per computer for non-concurrent use only? To me, license per computer meant the license is for one computer multiple users and yet non-concurrent use only meant 1 user multiple computer. Which one is the real license agreement?

Mike G Doremi, good question. To me, "per-computer" means a license is tied to one computer and per-user would allow use on multiple computers used primarily or soley by that user. But we need to know for sure.

P.S. ... fa so la ti da! :)

Siber Systems Guy Good: This offer applies to new purchases of RoboForm Pro. If you are an existing user of RoboForm Pro and want to buy RoboForm2Go, you already get a $20 discount at any time by visiting the 'Additional Licenses' tab on our regular checkout.

David Stevens: The second license is $9.95 with this deal. So if you get two licenses of RoboForm Pro the total is $24.95. If you get 1 Pro + 1 2Go the price is $34.95.

Stephane M I have been using RoboForm along with GoodSync for months now and I love it!
A more user-friendly UI would not hurt I think but it is definitively very efficient and working with all the forms and logins I have so far.

I cannot live without it now :-)

I tried LastPass in the past but had issues with some sites.
I recommend RoboForm.

David H (Seattle) I've been using RoboForm for over 2 years. *LOVE* it. Very friendly with multiple accounts & IDs per site; I also keep multiple credit cards in mine. It's a single click to select and submit which ID, CC, etc to use.

One thing I use most, not mentioned so far, is the login URL is stored with the password, along with any other options on the page. This means that from any webpage, you can login to any account with a single click; it goes to the correct URL where login info is entered, fills the fields, and submits. I use it for 1-click checking of multiple e-mail accounts over the web.

It even fills pop-up login panes.

In 2+ years and numerous updates, I've *never* had a crash or problem with Roboform. THAT is amazing for a piece of software!

Mike G Thanks for adding another day.

IMHO Siber Systems continues to be an industry leader in providing a huge number of timely enhancements and fixes for RoboForm 6 and going years without charging for a major version upgrade. Taking your time to improve functionality/stability before releasing 7 is also a good thing as long as critical RF 6 patches continue. I would agree Siber Systems is definitely here to stay. However,...

Andy has a good point. We're all purchasing RF 6 licenses with not even a rough timeframe or estimated cost for RF 7 release. We have no idea if it will be next week and free (at least for recent purchasers of RF 6), two years from now and $60 per license or what...

As a RF 7 beta tester, I think it's going to be a nice upgrade, but I'll revert back to 6 if the upgrade pricing is steep. Based on it's history, I believe Siber Systems will be fair, but customers shouldn't be left completely in the dark.

Siber Systems Mike G: The fact of the matter is we've yet to finalize pricing and upgrade process. I can say we won't be charging $60 for an upgrade however:-) Right now it looks like we'll be making an announcement on v7 in the next 6 months. I can also tell you we have no plans to stop support as we have millions of active users on the current version and we are committed to supporting them.

Guy Simmons: This only requires one license, however you might run into difficulties with activation which we can assist with by contacting our support department and explaining the scenario (very easy to do on our end).

Albert C. To Guy Simmons and Siber Systems: I've actually run into problems with Siber Systems with the multiboot scenario. I bought three licenses in 2009 for my 3 PCs. I use multiboot in 2 of them plus I'm a "reinstallation wh0re", I like to reinstall my systems every 3-4 months due to testing lots of software and systems becoming unstable. I contacted support because I ran out of activations at some point this past summer. They told me that they had reset my licenses but they did not. I was in a hurry and was "pushed" to buy 3 additional licenses.
Not that I care too much about the money because this program is sooo good, but the activation model is a pain in the a$$ and, really, I was not well served that time by the support personnel.
Just wanted to point this out so people in my situation be aware to pay more than once for their software.

Siber Systems Albert C: Actually one of the things we're working on with v7 is improving the license activation system to avoid just that. However support staff should be accomodating. Thanks for bringing to my attention.

Conrad TDI So, all these were v6 licenses, with no free upgrade path to v7.

Another 19.95 to get that functionality, but who's counting? Hey, it's still $5 cheaper than a new copy of v7 when released! Woo-Hoo

This might be the most deceptive two day sale on BDJ. No wonder users feel the need to neurotically question *exactly* what the license "means."

Siber Systems This is correct we just did a soft launch of RoboForm 7. I apologize but management made the decision just a few days ago. We are still obviously implementing upgrade messaging and processes and our site will reflect these changes in the coming days.

However, I want to inform everyone that purchased on or after November 1, 2010 that they will be able to convert their v6 licenses to either v7 Pro or v7 Everywhere 1:1 for *no charge*.

So for example if someone has purchased a v6 desktop license on Nov 17 with this promo, they will have the option of upgrading to either 1 copy of v7 Pro desktop OR a free year of v7 Everywhere free of charge.

Likewise if you got 3 v6 Pro desktop licenses after Nov 1, you may convert to 3 free 1 year licenses of v7 Everywhere.

Here are the primary differences between the two products: http://www.roboform.com/upgrade

To reiterate, we are still in soft launch mode so things may change, however I wanted to assure users that purchased recently of our v7 free upgrade policy.

We will have updated FAQ's and content to reflect the new version on our site in the coming days which I will post here once available at the indulgence of the moderator. You may email me at sdavissiber.com for any additional info on v7.

Mike G It's good to see Siber Systems came up with an equitable policy for those who recently purchased RF Pro v6. I've been using v7 beta for a while and like it so much I will not hesitate to upgrade 2 older licenses along with a 3rd license purchased here on Nov. 17.

Offering a choice between the Pro license and the new Everywhere annual license is pretty smart on their part. It accommodates those who prefer one license type over the other and raises an interesting dilemma.

These days, getting customers on a lease arrangement is the holy grail for software vendors. With very few exceptions I avoid leasing like the plague. This is partly because the number of applications and utilities I use multiplied by often overzealous fees quickly adds up to an unaffordable situation. The other reason is, no one wants to pay a fee every year (or whatever the period) if they feel little or nothing of value to them is provided in exchange (in terms of enhancements, updates and fixes).

With the Web and browsers constantly changing, one can make the case for RoboForm being legitimately in the class of software that requires constant R&D. If $20 a year seems a bit steep, Siber Systems has sweetened the pot by making it a per-user license instead of per-machine and throwing in universal sync.

So which license will you choose? Go with Pro and take a chance that you won't have to pay for another major upgrade for several years or jump over to v7 Everywhere?

no User Can someone explain why a product that had free UPGRADES, now charges preexisting customers, who should be grandfathered in, this is what other companies do when they change their licence.

I could understand if this change was for new users, but old?. The site clearly said free upgrades as was pointed out by a previous comment.

Before anyone moans about me being cheap, I'd have no problem paying if this was how it was from the get go.

I know this isn't the right place to ask, but support just gave me a non answer reply telling me the price to upgrade, and seeing as staff seem to be reading comments, I thought I'd get a better reply here.

Siber Systems RF User+Joe horning: The Google cache link above is from our old site which was before we even released v7 beta late last year/early this year. As you can see our site has come a long way since then and this page is not even accessible within the current navigation on roboform.com (check for yourself).

I apologize if support staff did not give you a non-satisfactory response and understand the concern and frankly when we came out with v6 almost 5 years ago we never envisioned that we'd be changing the license type to offer the option of RoboForm as a service and licensed at the user level, rather than per computer. For what it's worth the upgrade from v5 - v6 was also not free for everyone.

no User Well that google cache page was from nov 2010, and it doesn't matter if it's been years since a new version, when I bought it, it was claimed free upgrades, upgrades dosn't mean minor updates, it means upgrades, aka next major version.

oh, I did get another reply from support after writing again to them, this time telling me upgrades mean minor updates, but as a software company you should know that updates/upgrades have meaning, and using your own definitions is crafty.

But thank you for replying to me.

Joseph Morlan Just to be clear, the policy of lifetime upgrades is no more. Do I have that right?

If I upgrade to version 7.x and buy a license, that license will only be good for the 7.x cycle. After that I will have to buy a new license and so on and so on.

Just making sure I understand, because this is not a deal I'm thrilled with.

Joe Morlan Yes, but the pro option licensed per desktop/USB is not like previously. Previously, you offered a lifetime registration including all upgrades and updates.

That's the option which is no longer available. It's not "like previously." Instead the new desktop/USB license is only good for "updates" but not future "upgrades." So if next month you decide to change the version to the must-have 8.0 now compatible with Firefox 4.0, we will be charged for another license. We have no guarantee how long the current per desktop license license will last.

And we have no reason to believe that you will honor the new license for the current 7.x version sequence because you lied about the former "lifetime" license.

Kristen Emery I also purchased a Roboform Pro package a few years ago and I understood it to bea license that gave me access to all future updates and upgrades. I do not have a copy of the licensing agreement from when I purchase, so I cannot go back an review it - but I am extremely disappointed to find out that I now need to buy a new license for version 7.

And I when I upgraded to version 7 - it said nothing about my license no longer being valid for an update/upgrade to 7 - so I assume I was getting my usual update. Then today, all of a sudden, I received a message that I did not have a registered copy (30 days after updating to 7) which really caught me by surprise.

The lack of notice and vagueness on the Roboform website about the update - gives me the feeling that Roboform is trying to pull a fast one and expect users to be fooled. Why not just be honest with existing users that they need to change the user license/agreement in order to keep the company profitable. I would not want to wish them to go out of business - but changing the rules without communicating honestly about the change - leads me to question whether I want to continue being a user. I think there will be more unhappy customers as existing customers update to the new version and learn about this change.

And if I had purchased a license on August 31, 2010 and then had to pay for a new license - hopping mad would barely describe how I would feel.

And Simon - I do not care if the upgrade from version 5 to version 6 was not free - my understanding was that I would not occur any fees for future updates and upgrades at the time that I purchase my license. So, the advertising that motivated me to buy Roboform Pro a few years ago - was misleading or false. I will bet there will be more discourse on the internet about this arbitrary decision by Siber Systems.

Roger - I am puzzled about your comment about litigious threats on Bits - what commen threatening litigation are you referring to?

Tax Man For those feeling ripped-off by all of this, you can revert to an earlier version which does not require you to buy a new license.

http://www.roboform.com/s...evversions

Doing so will give you extra time to decide if you want to upgrade. And if you decide not to upgrade, just keep the old version. At least for now, your old license is still good for that.

Kristen Emery Tax Man,
Thanks for the info, and I have already rolled back to version 6. I keep it around until I am acclimated to LastPass.

It is the way that Roboform went about changing the terms of the license - not the fee for version 7. In my opinion they are trying to pretend that the lifetime license never existed. But, it did and they referenced it recently on 8/3/2010 here:

http://goo.gl/4T2tl

It is just not a good way to do business. Creates mistrust.

Simon peters I feel the same way, RIPPED OFF. I have had RF for years and we, old users, are what made roboform what it is today. To void your promise of free upgrades really stinks. I can understand that you have to charge for new versions,, to NEW CUSTOMERS because they will know that at the beginning. But us old customers were lied to, its that simple. and while we can use the old version, withyout updates Id be afraid to use too much longer, it will become a security hazzard.

Stephane M Yes I am really disappointed as well!

And on top of that they removed the auto syncing feature through RoboForm with GoodSync since the version 7.1.3. Now you need to buy a RoboForm Everywhere license to be able to automatically sync your data directly through RoboForm as you used to do with the version 6.

The other way to do it is to have a scheduled or manual task syncing your RoboForm data in GoodSync free edition using your online account that is fortunately still working without an Everywhere license but until when?? And I find this way to keep your data synchronized less convenient.

Again I feel the same way as numerous registered users because I purchased RoboForm 6 because the version 7 was coming out soon and was supposed to be free for registered users without string attached and I was really surprised that it was free only for users having purchased it on Sep 1st, 2010 or after.

Ted P Add me to the list of users who feels cheated by the sudden change in policy. I have been a long supporter of shareware products and consider myself one of the many users that kept Siber Systems going by buying their product. I've purchased several licenses over the years and recommended them to many family and friends, all on the understanding that it was a lifetime and free upgrade (major and minor) policy.

They are not the first company to cheat their customers, and if they follow the patterns of many other companies then it won't be long before we see a string of major version releases that offer very little to nothing in an attempt to steal more from us.

When companies get greedy, its time to move on and find someone more deserving of your support.

The upgrade price is almost the cost of a new license. How is saving $10 a reward for being a loyal customer? If you read their pricing, at first glance it seems that if you purchase 2+ licenses you get them for $9.95 each but that's how they get ya. You have to buy the first license at a higher price. I thought that was sneaky for first purchases and since they've applied the same methods to the upgrades it's sneaky for that too.

They're boasting about the new RoboForm Everywhere... BUT the one thing that I am sure most people have concerns about is the fact that all their passwords would stored be online for a skilled hacker to break into. That's one reason why I purchased desktop licenses... to keep my information safe and local.

When I needed to take it with me, I bought a 2go license. The U3 license is useless now under Win 7, but at least it can be used as a USB license if I need it. But Everywhere?! Can it be used without going online?

I am not sure I can trust a company with my passwords (the keys to just about my entire life!), if I can't trust them to honor their policies and promises of free lifetime upgrades.

Re: 5-6 wasn't free? I have been using version 6 for years. Was there ever a version 5? If so, it must have been only available on the Commodore 64.

Raymond Abbott discount on 2nd license for NEW users at $9.95.
They will charge me 50% more to upgrade my 2 desktop versions and 100% more to upgrade my 1 copy of portable edition. They do not even answer my support emails anymore. They are about to come out with a new version of Goodsync and I WANT to know what that is going to cost.
The product works- but they are developing it on the backs of existing customers.
