What are people saying about RoboImport

Pedro Grun The program sounds fine for photos still on my camera, but can it handle photos copied off the camera. For instance in the past I've just taken a snapshot of my SD card and transfered it to somewhere on my C Drive keeping the same directory structure as the camera used on the SD card. Can I somehow point RoboImport at root of those directories and have it import those photos just as it would had they been in my camera?

Murat Korkmazov Thanks for the comment Pedro. Yes, RoboImport can import the media files:

- from a folder or/and files on your computer
- from the connected removable drives and cameras
- directly from the all Canon camera via Canon SDK

Just point the RoboImport to a folder with your photos and you will seen a live preview of your destination file/folder structure without copying any files.

Haydn How does RoboImport handles IPTC data? I have used the likes of Photo Mechanic, and it will embed the IPTC data in the RAW file. Does RoboImport do this? Does it handle Nikon NEF files, and embed IPTC as well? (I do not like XMP sidecar files, as they may get displaced from the originals.)

Murat Korkmazov RoboImport have built-in IPTC editor to add picture describing information to the photos on the fly during transfer from camera to a PC. But unfortunately RI doesn't support writing information directly to NEF files because it's an internal Nikon corporation format (to prevent any possible damages).

You can only select the option to automatically convert the NEF files to DNG (on the fly of course) and write information to XMP.

RoboImport supports IPTC-writing feature for JPEG and TIFF files (and mapping to DNG's XMP)

Robert Fines I downloaded the trial, and the first time I tried to run it, I got "Your trial period has expired!" Was this product offered before on Bits du Jour? Or, I may have tried out RoboFolder earlier--and may not have. What gives?

Murat Korkmazov Yes. RoboImport was featured on BDJ some times ago. You can contact at support at picajet do com to request the 1-month trial extension key.

Murat Korkmazov Hi Mark,

Of course, you can specify any destination location you'd like: navigate to the main program menu: Edit > Options and set a destination folder you wish.

Hope this helps.

Bob Watson According to the PicaJet website, no products have been updated since April 2010 and RoboImport was last updated in 2007! Is this product still current and will it be updated for future versions of Windows?

Murat Korkmazov We plan to develop a light-weight version of the RoboImport that will be shipped with our flagship product: Daminion - server-based photo management solution.

Petr Hello, I have a few pre-sale questions:
1. I have two Sony cameras NEX-VG20 and DSC-Hx100v. Both cameras take videos. Can the videos be imported with the features you describe (please clarify)?
2. The NEX-VG20 can take RAW still images. Is your software compatible with the Sony RAW format so conversion to DNG is automatic as your web site describes?
3. The NEX-VG20 captures videos in what seems like a proprietary or AVCHD format. Does your software handle this?
Dec 21 2011 at 10:59am Copy Link

Murat Korkmazov 1. RoboImport supports a lot of video formats. To make sure that RI will import your video files you can download and evaluate fully-functional product version for 15 days from our web-site: http://roboimport.com

2. Can we talk about Sony ARW format?
Conversion to DNG format is performed by Adobe DNG converter - so you can always update it to have the most recent Converter version.

3. It depends from the file extension. I assume their should have M2TS and M2T extensions? BTW our Daminion (the photo management solution) supports AVCHD very well (although this is another piece of software)

Fred Schall Can you overide the feature where you say it deletes the files from your camera flash card? Also, will this version be updated for FREE when the newest version is released, insofar as this is a fairly old version that is now being sold?? Thank you. I would purchase now if I would be assured an update.

Murat Korkmazov Hi Fred,

"deletes the files from your camera flash card" option can be switched off.

We plan to release a light (but improved) RoboImport version that will be part of our newest photo management software with multi-user access - Daminion:

Michael R. Thanks for the answer. But because Daminion is way beyond my budget, let's ask the question a little different:

What can RoboImport do, what your PicaJet can't do?
Aug 19 2012 at 10:55pm Copy Link
0
Murat Korkmazov Michael, Daminion Standalone version is free of charge at the moment.

RoboImport is for importing images from digital cameras and perform some pre-processing operations during image copying "on-the-fly":
- Rename files and folders based on rename templates
- Auto-Rotate JPEG files losslessly, fix DPI
- Convert RAW files into DNG format
- Backup your files
- It can be configured to be launched automatically when you'll insert your flash card into card-reader or just connect your camera. Then transfer your files from the flash card to a computer, release the card device and close the program.

PicaJet is a program for logical photo organization based on virtual categories. (Daminion is a new, enhanced version of the PicaJet)

Johno Hi, does this product come with (include in the purchase price) a very comprehensive user manual or guide or give you access to one online ?

I notice on the company website page for this product ( http://www.picajet.com/en...roboimport ) they are advertising someone else's book on how to use this program ?? Its called 'Working with RoboImport' by Ritchie Kilpatrick !
I would certainly be hopping that it came with a fairly comprehensive guide as part of the purchase price myself. I am interested but this is a concern.

Sincerely,
Johno.

Murat Korkmazov RoboImport's manual is available here:
http://www.picajet.com/en...index.html

in most cases it's enough to start working with the program and learn about file/folder naming schemes, getting started, explanation of token..

But if you need a comprehensive guide about importing image from digital cameras and RoboImport usage I recommend you to check out Ritchies' manual that should be obtained separately (we are not affiliated with his e-book).

If you need a camera importer tool as part of the decent image management software take a look at our Daminion: http://daminion.net. It covers most of the RoboImport's renaming functionality.
