What are people saying about RoboTask

Jan-Christoph Ihrens It's a really versatile, reliable tool for automating tasks, and it's quite self-explanatory and easy to use. If you need something like this, give it a try!

Is there a typo or is it simply redundant?

1. Do you support mouse-only clicking and moving? To what extent?

2. Do you support one-click menu items, or must every user-defined action be activated with a separate hotkey?

3. How broad is your hotkey support? In other words, have you left out any keyboard individual keys (F12, F1, PrtScrn, and their modified scan codes)?

4. Do you include the Win key in with Ctl, Shf, Alt modifer keys?

edwin miller do you use smart mouse technology that allows the mouse tasks to work irregardless of windows size or position, i've used the demo and had problems in that regard.

also flexibility of selecting different widget types on the windows?

also will you develop a compiler so I can use your product without having to buy license for each machine

yes i know i can just use the demo but not sure if product limitation or just user ignorance on my part

Yes, RoboTask can find control element by window parameter, control name and position on the window

Robotask doesn't make standalone EXE files from tasks. You should have installed RoboTask if you want to use prepared tasks.

Oleg Yershov Yes of course. You can count files in the folder.
There are examples in installation package of RoboTask.
Basic plugin (additional plugin) have the example on Basic language too.
Also you can use {FilesCount()} system variable. It returns amount of files in specified folder

Mister Toad Hummm, I am compelled to included my Avantgate experiences in regards to multiple payments being posted. Oleg if you truely feel that this vendor does NOT have a payment processing issue; well, I must say you need to hang out around their Accounting department more often. I have had several issues where I have had multiple duplicate charges; I am talking in the neighborhood of 4 times in last 10 months. It is also very strange that you say you show no record of it; since this is the same EXACT reaction I received each time. Honestly, I dread purchasing a new APP thru Avantgate. Also, PayPal really is NOT this issue here; since I have received these issues using and NOT using PayPal. I rarely post any negative remarks about ANY vendors; but am on this one....My barometer reading and OMHO!

In any case, I will run off now! Got lots of new APPs to oggle over. I hope everyone has a pleasant week... snort

You can install RoboTask as system service. In this case RoboTask will be started when computer is being booted and it doesn't require user log in.
RoboTask Service Manager (included into installation package) will help you to install RoboTask-service and make initial settings.

You will get new registration key and additional period of free updates.

Watcher1924 Is there any chance that by installing the plugin I will mess something up and will need to reinstall the whole program?
In general, how compatible are newer plugins with older versions of the program? Is there a reason for not having a basic plugin for 5.3 at the download area? Does the specific build matter?
Mar 23 2013 at 7:40am Copy Link
0
Oleg Yershov What version do you use?
The latest stable version is 5.4. But Basic plugin v 5.4 is compatible with version 5.3. And contrariwise: Basic plugin 5.3 is compatible with RoboTask 5.4. In fact Basic plugin is the same.

Version 5.3 of RoboTask now is one of previous versions.
If you need version 5.3 exactly you can find it here:

Neowise - Mar 23 2013 at 8:59am Copy Link

Watcher1924 I'm asking about the latest version of the plugin because the latest is usually the optimal choice (and since there wasn't any file for basic on the 5.3 download page...).
I have RoboTask 4.4 and 5.3(5.3.0.722). The files for basic of 4.4 and 4.2 do seem the same but the ones of 5.3 and 5.4 have different names, different sizes and different contents. If something goes wrong during the installation of the plugin I will have to reinstall the program?
Mar 23 2013 at 3:13pm Copy Link
0
Oleg Yershov It's enough to reinstall only Basic Plugin.
But if you want install previous version of plugin you should remove a couple files manually.
Stop RoboTask and remove files:
BasicLdr.exe
Plugins\Basic\Basic.rtp
Next, install necessary version of Basic plugin.

Of course you may reinstall RoboTask completely. You know where you can get previous versions
Neowise - Mar 24 2013 at 4:40am Copy Link
0
Watcher1924 Right now there isn't any BasicLdr.exe or Basic.rtp anywhere in the program's folder (maybe because I have never istalled the basic plugin?).
I don't think my reg codes work with the program's installers from the download page.
But what I have been asking is what the right plugin versions are for my program versions. When we look at the about window should we take note of all the decimal numbers or only up to the first one? You say that the plugins for versions 5.3 and 5.4 are the same but they have different names, different sizes and different contents. I need to know I'm installing the right plugin because RoboTask is complicated; it's not the usual program for which you have to pay attention only to the settings. If a task has some erroneous or unpredictable behavior it's most of the times the user's fault but he needs to exclude the chance of a program's malfunction. There isn't much point in starting a troubleshooting for the task if he is not sure that the program uses the right modules.

Oleg Yershov "Giveaway of the day" action is an one-day action with the important restrictions:
"Please note that the software you download and install during the Giveaway period comes with the following important limitations:
1) No free technical support;
2) No free upgrades to future versions;
3) Strictly personal usage."

You can read this on GOTD site too.

About Basic:
You can get "Basic plugin" version 4.4 here:
http://www.robotask.com/d...ons/v.4.4/
"Basic plugin" version 5.3
http://www.robotask.com/d...ns/v5.3.1/

As opposed to GOTD BitsDuJour allows you to get full unrestricted license with support and free updates. Also BitsDuJour gives sizable discount.
Neowise - Mar 24 2013 at 10:03am Copy Link

Watcher1924 I didn't ask for "free upgrades"; I mentioned the fact I cannot reinstall the program because you mentioned reinstallation as an option if something goes wrong.

It seems that your only concern is (or became after a cerntain point of our "discussion")whether it's about a giveaway version. If it was so important you should ask since the beginning. When you asked about the version I use I answered with precision.

If there are more restriction than the usual ones (No free technical support, No free upgrades to future versions, Strictly personal usage)the publisher has to mention it through the programs description during the promo day, otherwise how are the users supposed to know?! But I believe this is not a case of restrictions because I don't think we are not allowed to use the basic plugin. I didn't ask for "technical support", I only made a very simple question which could be answered with only one sentence. I'm stopping the asking of this question on this page (and save it for the forums)and let's hope next time here we'll all have a better cooperation, because now you don't seem willing to answer clearly about the basic plugin compatibility since I'm telling you these attributes of the files are different and you refuse to comment about it. No matter how he has purchased the program, every user is entitled to make a question like this and( if you are not willing to answer it that's fine, depending on what it is about) because giveaway users are not puppets to install and mess up their systems blindfolded - there suppose to be a two-way benefit. And certainly they are intitled of not being dragged to conversations that consist a vicious circle; not getting an answer at all sometimes is better.

I quot you: "I wrote this earlier."
I'm not good with words so I really can't explain the situation without repeating my self: You wrote this earlier but you also wrote that the basic plugins for versions 5.3 and 5.4 are the same and I wrote that their files are not and you didn't accept commenting on this. You get to sell something here and we get to ask if we can really use it. How can I purchase a program if I can't find out which plugins are appropriate for each version -we'll have to make a research everytime?! In the download area there is ***objectively*** a confusion (I don't know if the situation or some files have changed now but until the time you send me there, that was the case). Anyway...
Mar 24 2013 at 4:15pm Copy Link
0
Oleg Yershov I wrote where you can find exact versions of Basic plugin.
There are no any special versions for GOTD.
GOTD users downloaded exactly these versions of Basic Plugin.
Neowise - Mar 24 2013 at 11:56pm Copy Link
0
Watcher1924 I would like to make clear (again!) that I wasn't asking if there are any "special versions for GOTD"-plugins; I was trying to find out the appropriate one for version 5.3 and to understand the logic behind the allocation and compatibility of the files in the download area so - when I need to - I can download the right ones for any current or future versions without having to ask every time. Any reasonable user would be a little careful about what to do if he saw the desired plugin available for the previous and next program versions but not for his current one and he would be confused if he was told that two files that have different ***contents*** are the same.

Doug Lietz Oleg - Can you tell me if your software will manage the following scenario...

When my Win7 computer is running slow, often the best solution is to reboot. But because I've got multiple programs running that would each need to be shut down manually... and documents that would need to be saved individually... and browser tabs that would need to be remembered and closed... I usually procrastinate and just "put-up" with my slow computer for too long.

What I would like, is to "press a button" that would...

1) Take a "snapshot" of what I have open and running (including all my browser tabs)... then

2) Save each of the open documents and close the programs... then

3) Restart Windows... then

4) Restore all my programs, documents, browser tabs that were open before the restart... the end result being that I am back to where I started, except that the system is freshly re-booted.

If your software can do this, is it possible for an average user to set up? I've posed this same question to other software venders, and although they said sure no problem, the solution required an advance degree macro programming to make it all work (imo).

Bob Hughes Regarding the license for RoboTask, I have a desktop computer and a laptop computer. I would like to install RoboTask on both computers but there would never be simultaneous use and I would be the only user on both computers. Would one RoboTask license be sufficient?

Oleg Yershov See License agreement, please: http://www.robotask.com/h...notice.htm

It says that you should have one license per one computer.

Bob Hughes Your license says "the user is granted a non-exclusive license to use RoboTask on *one* computer (i.e. a single CPU), for any legal purpose, *at a time*.

This would suggest to me that it is okay to have RoboTask installed on 2 computers but only use it on one computer at a time.

Please comment on this request for clarification.

Thanks,
Bob

bvssunnydale Re installation on more than one cpu - I'm confused because "The Fine Print" says, simply: "RoboTask is licensed per computer, and not per user.
Each license allows installation on 1 computer." - meaning it can be installed on ONE and ONLY one computer. It seems very clear (and a deal killer for me, but good luck with it).

Nick Kobe I would have bought this software had it not been for the "fine print" that stipulates that the software can only be used on one computer. I have 7 laptops, one desktop, and a number of slates and android tables.

In order to use the software on the 7 laptops and a desktop it would cost me $479.76. This is the problem with some software developers that they do not understand that a significant number of users have several computers.

In my case I NEVER purchase software that is licensed per computer.

Jerry S Well, I was very, very tempted, even though I own several other macro programs. But the lack of an executable creation capability and the inability to use it on more than one computer killed the deal. I use one computer in my home and another when I travel. It is the rare application today that demands a separate license for each.

Looks like a nice app. I can live without the executable creation function since whatever I create is for my own use, but not with a requirement that I have separate license for both my computers. Should the situation ever change and BitsDuJour offer it again at an Attractive price,I would probably consider it. But not as the deal stands: separate licenses for each of two computers is passe.

frank castle what is the client / server mode? Do you have to install and license Robotask on the client also? License every client? If so you need to up your game, there are plenty of affordable macro programs out there (vtask)- but they need the ability push an exe to the remote PC (not install more software) and schedule / execute. Maybe that is where you can get a jump.

Oleg Yershov RoboTask can execute some application and wait for finish of app.
Look at the "Run Program/Open Document" action: http://robotask.com/help/...rogram.htm
RoboTask can read the exit code of application.

If you want to use console application (with text window) look at the "Run Command-Line Utility" action: http://robotask.com/help/...tility.htm
This action allows you to run utility with parameters, catch the output and save it to variable. Next you can parse it and use in the task.

You can run some task from command line.
You can use menu Task->Create batch file to create a simple BAT or CMD file to run the task. There is RTaskRun.exe utility (included into the package) to run the task. Command line is simple:
RTaskRun.EXE taskID
Task ID is a number
It's better if RoboTask is already running when you try to call the task.

Stefan Hauber Considering the changelog-dates for the updates for v5 - after the publishing-date of v5.7, about 1/2 year later v6 was published - it is quite probable that v7 will too be published inside the 12-months free upgrade-time-window.

It would be very helpful, if the vendor would assure, that today's buyers will get v7-upgrades for free, even if it will published a little later. I'm quite sure, that would be a reason for some cautious people (like me) to buy now...

This is very common question.
You can copy data from Excel document in the loop. Also you and put the data anywhere.
You can check the error only indirectly.

Oleg Yershov AutoHotKey is a some scripting tool. You write some script as a text file and run it by some hot key.
RoboTask allows you create your tasks interactively step-by-step;
You can insert some scripts on VBscript or JavaScript into task to implement some complex algorithm;
RoboTask has more than 20 triggering events and can work automatically without any interaction with user;
RoboTask can work as system service;
RoboTask can connect to remote RoboTask instance on another computer and control/monitor remote RoboTask (for business license only) ;
RoboTask has global and local variables and you can share some data between tasks;
and much more...

I have nothing against AutoHotKey. If you like it, just use it.
