What are people saying about Screenpresso

Frank Stephens This has a lot of options and features, but seems very cumbersome and not ready for primetime. The installer hung, I finally had to terminate it but it did install OK. The Aero effects were messed up on my first capture, but I haven't noticed that issue on a couple of subsequent captures. The big gadget doesn't seem very useful, and puts up some help tip half off-screen which disappears. You're better off to use the tray icon, which has options. In text caption boxes, the text doesn't conform to the box and the box doesn't conform to the text. Text bubbles are otherwise OK, the pointer can be moved and stretched, pointers/lines have lots of options, etc. But basic things are annoying. Capturing a scrolling IE window requires you to manually specify the region by dragging, being careful to avoid scrollbars and overlays which would interfere with stitching. But then it starts the merge too soon, probably due to some buffer limit which isn't even in the advanced settings. I'll take a look at the video features but I'll probably skip this for now, there's always the free version. A previous BDJ offering which is very different from this but I like is now free, MicroInvention CrossGL SnapDraw, although on Vista I used it only for annotations because it had problems with the captures, Win7 has different screen handling but I haven't tried it on that yet.

Nozavi The app looks pretty cool, but...
1. No way to configure the hotkeys?
2. No hotkey for capturing the active window?
3. No option to capture the selected app, not the selected window? ( Example: http://i.imgur.com/tDkDB.png VS Screenpresso's http://i.imgur.com/B4E7O.png )

Eduardo Amado Hi. What are the main advantages over Snagit?
Oct 7 2011 at 8:35am Copy Link

Rick Screenpresso has a fair feature set and has a couple of video output options that are not available in Snagit. Screenpresso at $15.32 vs. Snagit 10 at a MSRP of $49.95 is a very good deal if the product does what you want.

Snagit 10 is has more features, good third party support, a lot of free add-ins, free training resources and a superior user interface. Snagit may not be the best return on investment if you are only looking for basic screen capture and recording features.

I would highly suggest downloading and comparing the free trials…

disenchanted I understand leaving out audio of people speaking, to have videos understood by people in all languages.

But, do you by chance have any videos posted online that simply have some sort of "background music" added as audio?

I have an old, old version of camtasia and was looking for a newer, cheaper replacement. Camtasia has problems with recording audio on my new computer. So I was looking for a replacement for camtasia.

I am taking a couple of online classes for school.
I hate their streaming training videos, as you have to have a live internet connection to view these streaming videos.
(hard when traveling where wifi might not be available).

How is this product for capturing streaming video?

Thanks.

Frank Stephens People keep asking questions that could easily be answered by downloading the trial, which is just the free version. That's why BDJ always has trial downloads.

disenchanted I downloaded the trial.

Unable to get the audio driver working with my computer this morning, before I had to leave for work.

That's why I asked my questions.

This morning when I installed it, I had not yet been able to prove the software can do what I want it to,

So that fact that they offered a trial didn't answer my questions.

Then this evening I just found something in their FAQ section that might offer a fix for my audio problem..

Their website mentions:

[Starting from Windows Vista and Seven, Microsoft removed the "Record what I hear" option to protect some copyrights.
According to this, Screenpresso can record sound only from the microphone... but there is a workaround here. http://windows7themes.net...ows-7.html]

If anyone else cannot get their audio to play back,
check out this FAQ at Screenpresso under the Video section of the FAQ, titled :
"Is sound recording supported ?"

DrTeeth In a previous comment, you said it was not possible to add audio as you wanted your vids to be understood by the most number of people. Excuse me, but should that decision not be left up to the user? *I* want to decide if there is audio or not; I should at least have the option.

Your video also goes blank after 4'09'' - it should last over 6 minutes.

DrTeeth By 'the video', I mean the YouTube video on this Bits du Jour page, at the top next to the screenshots. I have tested it under OpenSuSE 12.1 and Windows 7 64 bit; no video after 4 m 09secs but the audio still plays.

I would also like to be able to choose where the program is installed. I do not like installing to my Appdata folder. I understand the issues installing into Program Files.

Steven Avery Hi Folks,

Having played with zscreen and some others, I was pleasantly surprised with the screenpresso interface, encouraging you to annotate, etc in an easy way. A very sensible program. You can start boxing and noting and stashing very easily.

One question. Do you have it built-in with any of the upload spots that at the time of upload you get the public or private generated url for direct revisiting ? ie. you have the url without visiting the storage unit ?

Anyway, I was impressed enough to purchase. Not sure about the dark skin, hopefully you have some choices there, but the interface was so easy , I think I will feel much more comfortable with annotations and uploads than I generally have in the past. The Bits discount helped. (I was really surprised, I was expecting to pass by the product, but when I saw how smooth was the annnotation tools and such, it seems like you have put some effort into this).

Steven

Chintan Karnik This is one of the best purchases I've made here at BDJ. After installing, you'll be amazed as soon as you press the print screen button!

One the thing I do when I visit a website that has a feature I like is use screenpresso to capture the page and use the annotation tools to leave myself a note about it. The screen stitching feature is also very useful where you can capture an entire webpage including the content beyond the scroll area.

George Roch I am looking for a replacement for an aging Snagit, and downloaded the trial.

I am very impressed by the simplicity and flexibility of the program. I figured out all the key features in 5 minutes without cracking the help files.

I am even MORE impressed by Screenpresso's support team. I was having problems capturing secure HTTPS websites and sent support an email letting them know I was using the trial version.

I got their response within an hour indicating they could not reproduce the problem and offering suggestions. They were right, the problem was my Webroot Antivirus. I don't remember getting such a quick and thorough response from any software vendor in the past. I am impressed and will sign up as soon as your sale starts.

In most cases, these tooltips just kick a goal for stating the obvious.

Alan @Cheryl,
I don't know the answer but would be interested in knowing.

I have bought the software so I may try it, but it will probably be a day or so before I can get to it, so hopefully an answer will be provided today.

Louis H I like it. A lot. Very easy to use. And portable! I use SnagIt and Snap 5 and find Screenpresso very easy and lightweight. Worth the investment for me.

Software Geek Just for the sake of people buying through paypal I never did receive an email with a reg code on this as was stated in my purchase email and I looked in my spam folder. However I was able to log into Avanquest merchant and create an account and once you do it will show you your reg code. Strange, not sure why this is like this. The email I received from purchase said it would be directly followed up by an email with a reg code.

Thomas Evans I have been using the free version for some time, it's a very good program. The problem with this program that there is no audio when you create a video. When you can easily get the sound when making a video of what's on the desktop, I going to buy.

Harald Vogel Thanks for this great offer. I just ordered my copy. What worried me a little bit is your upgrade policy: Really no discount for upgrades to new major version? Do you at least plan to stay a while with version 1.x or is there already version 2 in the making?

Screenpresso - Thanks for all comments!

@DrTeeth Many thanks for your comment

@ThomasEvans You can record the microphone, audio is working properly. What you cannot do is "record what you ear" if your soundcard driver doesn't allow it.

@HaraldVogel You will get all the updates of the 1.x version for free. We have currently no plan for a 2.x version.

@SoftwareGuy, thanks for your comment.

John Terdik Question - will it capture the audio I hear on my PC not just what I say in the mic.
Question - can you edit the captured video and automatically eliminated both audio and the video section for silence, let's say that silence is anything greater than 300 ms.
Question - can you edit the audio and automatically eliminate sounds based on a pattern? Example the speaker says "uh" a lot, can I capture a section with "uh" and then automatically delete any section that contains a match?

Software Guy The free version is VERY GOOD and HIGHLY recommended. The pro version offers even more features l- for a comparison look here:
http://www.screenpresso.com/featuresall
The user manual is here:
http://www.screenpresso.c...soHelp.pdf
Yes, Snagit is very good and loaded with features for $45. And yes, some people might need the features of a specialty screen capture program like Media Chance's UltraSnap Pro ($42).
But the best general purpose screen capture program is Screenpresso, $14.33 today on BitsDuJour AND it features a User license.
Download it and give it a try. You will like it.

Patrick Biegel Hi,

The fine print states: "Online license activation is required with a hardware footprint, and 5 installations per footprint."

On the website I can read that the tool can be used in portable mode. How is that exactly? For me it is important to use it in portable mode.

Thanks and regards!

CodeDog I looked at the website and the video, but I still have a question.

Does Screenpresso allow live zooming while recording? Can I zoom in and out during the actual recording, or only during the editing process?

Thanks...

Screenpresso - There is no video editor. The built-in editor is only for image.
There is a zoom in / out mechanism during recording using Win+F8

Best Regards

S B Screenpresso is very good and I use it regularly. I completely agree with Software Guy's nice post. Here's my enthusiastic endorsement.

I've used the wonderful and more feature-rich SnagIt for years, but find myself using Screenpresso almost exclusively.

Screenpresso is quick, powerful, and very direct and intuitive--after just a little learning its way of doing things (and where to look) there is very little thinking about Screenpresso, just very natural capturing and marking up.

It does have a very powerful editor, nice icons and effects, great "drawing tools" (all seem to have a variety of easily settable presets & defaults (*very nice*)), a really great auto-numbered (or lettered) callout tool, etc., etc. It keeps a nice record of captures and edited files (in "folders" if you want), as well as user-entered descriptions and meta-data.

It seems to have very few quirks--it sometimes takes me a couple of tries to select an item rather than adding another automatically, but that may be my problem.

It seems to be under active development, and the developer seems to be enthusiastic, helpful, and interested.

Screenpresso just helps me communicate well.

As Software Guy said, "Highly Recommended."

TESS273 Can I purchase this license as an extention to my current license? I've bought at last May deal.

And I love Screenpresso, but have some problems.

1. Prtsc Key doesn't work from time to time, especially when I capture Setup program's window.
2. Screenpresso doesn't recognize division windows of some programs. Firefox, Thunterbird etc. Screenpress can capture only whole window.
3. When I input text after capture, spaces between letters are weird sometimes.
for example " S c r e e n p r e s s o"
At this time, I must change Windows IME. After changing IME, everything's fine. I use Windows 8 Korean Pro 32bit.

Thanks.

Cary Adams @TESS273... Don't you have the standard lifetime license with 3 year of upgrades? No need to extend a lifetime license... unless you plan on using this in the hereafter (and I understand it will be available for no cost in heaven).

You can update at anytime... just right-click, select "About" and "Check for update"

Screenpresso - Hi!

@TESS273, If you would like to add a license to your current license key,
please send us an email after you bought the license so we can merge both license keys.

@Alan, yes, you can install teh free version to test it before buying. Screenpresso is a freemium.

@Cary adams, yes you are rights, updates are including during 3 years.

What is the 'merging' of the licence keys that you mentioned above?
