_*_ At first I was very excited as I looked at this software. Then I read, "After you purchase Scribbleton, it may be used for 12 months.". Darn, another subscription based software that would have been useful, but will be passed on due to this sales model.

Dunking Yes, same here: very interested in this, but a subscription is the kiss of death.

Peter Gabriel Subscription. That's a shame. Uninstalled.

No Name Do they mean that it can only be used for 12 months, or can only be updated for 12 months. I know I was dealing with other software that originally said that- and after asking, they meant that it could only be updated for 12 months.

There is also the factor of getting the software for the version that you're licensed for, but that's just knowledge- nicer companies keep a backlog, but it's not a killer for them not to IMO, as long as you have it in advance.

UPDATE: Nevermind... just contacted them, and it is a subscription.

> Scribbleton is subscription based. If you choose not to renew after your first year, the software reverts to trial mode where you can still open and read any wikis you created, but you won’t be able to create more than 5 pages.

> Your data is also exportable to text and html at any time, directly from the app, regardless of subscription status.

It's a shame. I've been using Ema Personal Wiki, and it's open source software. Not as fully featured as this, but it works.

Andrey User Hi folks.

Just to provide some clarification, Scribbleton is subscription based. If you choose not to renew after your first year, the software reverts to trial mode where you can still open and read any wikis you created, but you won’t be able to create more than 5 pages.

Your data is also exportable to text and html at any time, directly from the app, regardless of subscription status.

Let me know if you have any other questions. I’ll be glad to help.

Thanks!

Chuck Brotman Yeah, I'm also turned off by the need to pay annually... However I've downloaded the trial, just to try it.

Notes So far:
1. No obvious help file access! Really???
2. can easily insert an image
3. no obvious way to how to insert todays date as Text??
4. doesn't seem to follow usual right click-context menu conventions e.g copy paste...

Overall, a decent idea, perhaps, but, not worth the money (to me)...

If this had been a TRUE Giveaway even if only for one year I might have given it a shot, but under the current function, temp and conditions I'll pass

Dunking Glad someone gave it a try :)

How does it compare to other wikis, for instance TiddlyWiki: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TiddlyWiki ?

TopDog Yes the same here. I was interested but don't care for subscription software. I know it is profitable business model but not something I want to get tied up into.

John Silby I was interested, too, until I realised it's subscription software. No deal!

No Name For me, it's not so much the subscription. I subscribe to Evernote, and to Write! and other software. It's the nature of the subscription. It is completely hobbled without it. With the other software I subscribe to, there is value added from the subscription- cloud access is one thing that is common, and space there or upload capacity. Even if you can get your data out of the software- why would you even start, knowing that it's completely unusable after? And the subscription is $40 a year? Nah... it's a big nope.

Chuck For me, the only subscription worth consideration is for software that maintains full functionality, but otherwise receives no updates/upgrades once the subscription expires. That's fair enough. Otherwise, I will pass.

Rodina User Subscription? No way.
I will rather pay more for robust solution like The Brain.
