Pop quiz! Say you want to include a customized signature or graphic in your document, how would you go about it? I've always inserted a graphic file into the document, then had to deal with all of the layout and formatting problems that resulted, not to mention the increased file size of the document. The results were never pretty. Today, thankfully, there is an easier, more elegant way.

SigMaker turns any image, logo, or signature into a font glyph that's easily inserted into your documents with a simple keystroke combination. Once you've added your custom image, it's available to all of your word processing and graphics applications that use the OpenType and TrueType fonts that are installed on your computer.

Adding custom images, logos, and signatures is easy in SigMaker, and only takes six steps. You can choose to add customized images to an existing font, or create your own freestanding font glyph. Either way, you use SigMaker to tweak the image to your liking, save it to a keystroke combination, and you're done! There's even support for Adobe InDesign-compatible SING glyphlets, so you can use customized images to extend Asian font sets!

Louis H As best as I can tell, (from the vendor's website) the last update for this was in May of 2008. Is that correct? Has it been verified to work with Windows 7 64 bit systems? Is a new version coming out soon? Or later this year?

Michael R. Is it possible to kind of vectorize the important images, so they would work well together with all sizes of fonts?

How does it looks like if they are integrated into an existing font and the size of a text is beinng increased or decreased. Are the 'image-chars' enlarged/shrinked too?

Cathy Gould Please,

How is this different from Windows 7 Private Character Editor (PCE)?

Thanks!

Ted Harrison Yes, SigMaker was last updated in 2008. It still works great (on Win7 64-bit, too) and there are no plans to update it in the near future.

SigMaker works by vectorizing (autotracing) bitmap images and turning them into glyphs in a font. The new glyphs scale just like all the other glyphs in the font.

SigMaker is much more powerful than Win7 PCE. Take a look at the specs at http://www.fontlab.com/fo...tions.html

Ted H

Louis H Thank you, Ted! No need to "fix" something if it ain't broke, eh? :-)

Mostly wanted to make sure it would work with Win 7 64 bit before giving it a trial run.

Pat Weber Quick question - have not been able to find the answer on the site - Can the fontlet be distributed to other users, e.g., a company logo?

Michael K That's a really important question Pat and I eagerly await the answer from the vedor to your question.

And, if a fontlet can be distributed and used by others, how is it done?

Pat Weber I must assume that, if the software outputs to OpenType or ttf, it would be distributed like any other font...

Only an assumption, though.

Michael K There is a nice instructional video on the vendor's website that answered all my questions and I'm happy to buy this neat piece of software.
Thanks BitsDuJour for bringing it to our attention as a daily offering.

Ted Harrison Yes, any fontlet or SING font can be distributed. It's just like making a new font of your own. And it's just a file like any other font file.
