ProperSoft It supports QIF, QFX, OFX, QBO, OFC, ASO, CSV formats. You can find these formats for download in the "accounting" section on your online banking site.

_*_ Tried the demo, but struggle with the program not having Accounts (only inflows and outflows of money), nor can the user edit/delete their own Main Category titles. Seems only Subcategories can be controlled. These are two major limitations for me personally.

ProperSoft There is no accounts in this version of Simple Money Manager. It's all about your expenses and income, but not your account balances.

You can have multiple transaction files in the Entrepreneur edition, for example, to separate your personal and business money.

ProperSoft For the question about categories - you can edit them on the Categories tab or just right click selected category on the sidebar.

You may also change the Category Group of the category by editing the category.

_*_ ProperSoft, since I cannot find a way to do this, or information how to do this, would you please give a step-by-step on how to remove the Category Group and add new ones?

Also, no matter how many times I "delete" the Sub-Categories they are right back to default as soon as I click on the Tools-Categories Setup menu.

How do I delete your list and add my own so it is now default and the program will not revert back to its own default list?

I know I can uncheck them but I rather not see them at all since I am allowed to delete them, but then they reappear as soon as I leave the delete screen.

If I am having this difficulty, I would recommend that this be a real area where you make it simple as your name states to operate.

ProperSoft M B, I see where your confusion is, let me explain.

First of all, do not use Tool-Categories setup. This is for the initial setup of default categories. This is most likely the cause of your confusion.

Second, delete all unwanted categories on the Categories tab (you call them Sub-Categories).

Now, when you need a new category, click New on the Categories tab or select "Add new" from the category drop down list on the sidebar.

How do I add/edit/delete Groups in the program?

Jim Stone I'm confused as to how you're supposed to use this.

I don't see any way to track multiple accounts (checking/savings/credit card) much less any way to reconcile a bank or credit card statement.

There also doesn't appear to be any way to view or search more than a single month's worth of transactions at a time.

Nor does there seem to be any way to view a running total of your money or generate any reports based on the data, beyond the rather limited graphs available in the "Overview" tab.

Am I missing something?

P.S.
Why does the license contain the rather bizarre clause "You agree that you will not export the Software or documentation"? Technically, that means you can't take your computer out of the country if it has this program on it. Is that really intended?

ProperSoft Jim Stone, thank you for all your points, and I understand your confusion. You really have to decide, which personal finance software works for you.

the Running Total is on the sidebar, at the bottom.

There is no accounts on purpose. SImple Money Manager is not about balancing your accounts, but about your expense habits. There are many users specifically happy with how Simple Money Manager works. I asked my spouse (she is the main user of SMM and the business decisions maker) about 32 times to add accounts to SMM, and she said NO every time and threatened to stop using SMM. So that is the story and I had to obey :)

Simple Money Manager keeps the search term when you navigate from month to month (use the arrow buttons on the calendar), and I find this approach very useful to get to to a transaction quickly.

Anyway, please enjoy this promotion if you find the software useful for you.
