Michael Smart Packer Solutions Hi,

V2 is planned for Q2 2015 so it will not be available on short term. Meanwhile v1.x still gets updates (new features, improvements etc.) for free.

V2.0 is not free for v1.0 owners however there will be an interesting upgrade discount.

Stephen Kreyling Is the packer X version a lot faster than the regular version? I am using the demo to try a very small .exe and its taking an extremely long time. Is this a demo only thing?

No the run-time engines are practically the same (including trial versions).

Please create a temporary folder (for example My Documents\myproject), place the main executable and all other files (including subfolders) in this folder, select the main executable in Smart Packer Pro and build the packed exe.

The packed exe will be created in a short time.

6 meg .exe was the size of the app applied to.

Sam @Stephen, I have purchased both the Smart Packer Pro and Smart Packer Pro (X), and the only difference between them is the support for 64 bit applications. I was surprised that they gave it a completely new name and charged those that had purchased Smart Packer Pro.

Anyways there have been no updates since a while and there are two major flaws with the generated executable.

1) The version number shown on the executable is that of smart packer (1.9.xx) and not the version number of your program.

2) The executable (at least the ones I have generated) are always flagged by windows and the antivirus running on your system as potentially dangerous software. I had a lot of problems with clients who used Avast as these were practically not allowed to run on their systems.

Just my two cents. I think they really need to address these main issues and stop charging their existing clientele for features that should be a part of their existing package.

1. Version information can be changed for many years already.

2. Smart Packer Solutions is working closely with antivirus companies and for quite some time we didn't had any issues with false positives.

3. Smart Packer Pro had at least 4 version (free!) updates this year.

Also please note that both products are similar but are using a different run-time engine. Most functionality is however the same.

Currently we are working on updates for both products. The updates will contain improvements and new functionality.

Sam Hi Michael,

Thanks for the response.

1. What is the point of changing version information if you cannot see it on the generated executable. When you hover your mouse over the executable, it says File Version 1.9.x which is clearly not the version of my program but that of Smart Packer Pro. So having such a functionality since many years already really does not serve any purpose if it is not reflected in the generated file.

2. The only problem with having a false positive is that the client loses faith over time when they have to repeatedly allow the program in the antivirus solutions. I myself have generated files and each time Kaspersky asked me if this was a safe program that should be allowed to run. I think this is very important issue for most developers and it can hamper a clients faith in their programs.

3. I just received one update in the last year (the other update was in terms of Smart Packer Pro X which had a different version number), it would be great if you could let me know where I can download these latest updates.

1. Like I mentioned there were several updates and we have send several mailings to customers. It seems that you missed that. That latest version will probably fix this issue.

2. This behaviour can be caused by several reasons and is often caused by false identification by the antivirus company. Possible solutions are inform the antivirus company it is a false positive or digitally sign the (packed) exe.

3. Maybe for some reason you were not on the update list or is the mail removed by a spamfilter. Anyway send us an e-mail with the update request and we will make sure you get the latest update.

Firstly I would like to congratulate you on Smart Packer Pro that is both a powerful and friendly software tool. I have just bought a license of your software application.

Nevertheless, as mentioned by another user above, there is a real problem with the display of the version and the author copyright of a packed file. The version that is displayed is the Smart Packer's version number and the auhtor copyrights are attributed to Smart Packer Solutions.
The other functions are working perfectly. I hope those small problems can be solved in the next updates.
