Lifetime Upgrades When trying to install on Windows 8.1 (64bit), I am getting the Blue Screen of Death and must restart

After collecting the data, the error appears, "System Thread exception Not Handled (Shield.sys)

Ivan User SMARTHDD tested and works fine on Windows 8.1 (64bit). SMARTHDD work into 3 Ring OS and not use self drivers. It can't cause an BSOD.

Ed Lippert I have 2 SSD drives as RAID 0, 4 SATA drives as RAID 10 and one standard SATA drive. The application only reports on single SATA drive. Are RAID drives not supported?
May 17 2015 at 6:52am Copy Link
Ivan User Perhaps this is a bug firmware. Firmware version "3.AAE" reports like SATA (
Ivan Chupin - May 17 2015 at 8:41am Copy Link
Ivan User RAID is not supported, because he should independently provide reliable data storage.

wts Does SMARTHDD coexist peacefully with Hard Disk Sentinel Pro?

If yes, why run both? Answer: SMARTHDD would be useful as a 2nd opinion and, also, the purchase of this product would encourage more development in this space once dominated by Spinrite (the next version of which has been promised for years, now).

Please don't answer with "run the trial." I'm not concerned about any gross incompatibility which I could detect, but about possible subtle interactions that may affect results of either program or, possibly, hard disk operations themselves when both programs are run at the same time.

Thank you!

John When I tried to download the app (smarthdd.exe) after purchase, Norton Antivirus reports it as "High Risk" for the threat "Suspicious.Cloud.7.EP".

So I wont be using this app!

Constantin Florea @John, Please notice the Virus Scan page:

John I also just tried using the link you just provided, and NAV still says its a virus. I have the latest version of NAV, and it has the latest definitions (from 4 minutes ago). Bitsdujour must be using an older version of the app and/or definitions of NAV.

Also, if Bitsdujour was hosting the file, then I might trust your virus scanners because the file you would offer for download is the same *exact* file that was scanned. But the current download link is from the vendor, so the file could be a totally different file, making your scans irrelevant.

So, I will trust my copy of NAV.

Amit 1. I would like to buy 2 copies as the deal is of use on household license, but want to know about this written above - you can use SMARTHDD to actually modify drive performance by changing power consumption and modifying the positioning speed of the magnetic heads.
What and how does this works by the software, and what benefit is achieved by modifying the positioning speed of the magnetic heads.
2. Also I want to know confirmed clarity on working alongside with hddsenitelpro, and the virus claim.

Chris I have Norton 360 and downloaded and installed from the link that Constantin Florea gave. The only thing Norton 360 did was pop up the Download Insight asking me if I wanted to run the file since it didn't have enough info to trust it.

Lifetime Upgrades It seems this software uses a small amount of resources and does what the software developer states, at least on Windows 10 64bit operating system.

I have been slightly disappointed that there has been no portable versions for this software.

Constantin Florea @Dave Bonham and @Dawid C - I have just contacted the vendor asking for his help regarding the issue you mention.

Louis H wts asked some time ago if this program was compatible with Hard Disk Sentinel Pro. I am having no problems running the trial version of SMARTHDD with my licensed copy of Sentinel Pro. (In case anyone is wondering.)

It is nice to have a "2nd opinion" when looking at the health of my drives. Sentinel Pro gives you a prettier UI, but SMARTHDD seems quite good in giving the actual information I need to know. Will pick up a copy at this price and find out a bit more. (Trail version does not do everything.)

Thanks to BDJ and Ivan for this one.
