Lesley Knight Robert, you can convert your slideshow to an FLV video with embed code and player. You can adjust the video quality (codec, bitrate, frame size, frame rate, audio settings) as well as the player size. Please note that creating FLV video is available in SmartSHOW Deluxe only, not in the Standard version.

Software Guy AMS' SmartSHOW is an easy and fun slideshow maker which comes in 4 flavors:
http://slideshow-maker.com/order.php
http://smartshow-software.com/order.php
The standard version is a great way to make a slideshow quickly and easily. Pick a folder, add all, switch the order or delete in the timeline, add music and create. Or you can spend some time with the many creative options for a more polished look. At free this is a great deal. The standard version is well suited for laptops - pick a folder, create and you can instantly show to your friends and coworkers all your big fun in Key West while they were back at home shoveling snow in 28 degree weather just to get out of the drive way to go to work. At $0.00, you should give it a try. Thanks AMS and Bitsdujour.

Constantin Florea @Eustace Phenackertiban - The SmartSHOW 3D Standard version is indeed discounted at $39.90 however during the giveaway we will be offering the SmartSHOW 3D Deluxe version at $42.50 whereas on the product site the SmartSHOW 3D Deluxe version is discounted at $59.50.

Lesley Knight Thank you Constantin!
@Eustace and all - please note that SmartSHOW (the one on giveaway) and SmartSHOW 3D (discounted at 50%) are two different apps indeed.
Basically,
SmartSHOW - http://slideshow-maker.com - is an easy app great for beginners.
SmartSHOW 3D - http://smartshow-software.com - is pro-level software with a lot more tools; quite easy to use as well, but it lets you dig deeper and deeper discovering its potential.
We recommend that you check out the slideshow samples on both websites - these will give you a better understanding of the difference. It's also good to check out the free trial version if you have the time.

Lesley Knight Don't worry because of the "Enter Key" line inside the Help menu. It's always there as part of the interface in case a user decides to upgrade for example. The software will work fine not asking for a key.

Constantin Florea @Amit Pasad - Could you please try another browser like: IE, Chrome, Firefox or Opera? Also, please clear your browser cache before trying to purchase. Mark K In response to a question by Grateful, Lesley Knight responded "Don't worry because of the "Enter Key" line inside the Help menu. It's always there as part of the interface in case a user decides to upgrade for example. The software will work fine not asking for a key."

How do you know the software is registered? The "About" menu should say the installed version is registered. Looking at the Help menu, one gets the impression that you need a registration key and have to activate it on-line. To me, this "one size fits all" coding is confusing.

Brent Carey @Mark K: First of all, BitsDuJour states that the program does not have to registered/activated, it is a full version. Secondly, if the program had to be registered/activated, you'd be seeing some dialog boxes indicating that, or you'd be seeing something like "This Program Is Unregistered", probably in the "About" Area. That has been my experience with most of the software that I use.

Since we see neither the "Unregistered" nor any dialog boxes, we're pretty safe in assuming that this is a full version of the software. I understand the confusion about have a place to enter the License Key, yet I also get what "Lesley Knight" was saying about having this in place, in case you want to Upgrade.

Hope this helps!!

Have an awesome day!! :)

b g So, in plain language, this is an extended TRIAL, right?
Oct 28 2014 at 6:31am Copy Link
4
Lesley Knight Hi, not sure what makes you say that. The software offered here is a fully functional copy of SmartSHOW Standard (version 2.0). You can use it to create slideshows with any number of slides (as opposed to 15 slides in the trial), and convert to video without a watermark.
AMS Software - Oct 28 2014 at 6:53am Copy Link
1
b g What makes me say that is the statement in the FINE PRINT section which says:

"After you purchase SmartSHOW it may be used for 12 months and will not function after that unless you renew your subscription."

Maybe the program labeled "TRIAL" is even more crippled but "will not function . . after 12 months" doesn't sound as if I really own the program
despite the frequent use of the word "purchase (for $0).

A further issue is that (if past experience is any quide) the program mysteriously reverts to "Trial" status in several weeks and cannot be registered again: "there is no way to restore registration" per your note to me in September. Again, this doesn't feel like ownership to me.
Oct 28 2014 at 8:08am Copy Link
5
Lesley Knight The phrases used in the Fine Print section are based on standard templates, and there is indeed a contradiction between "purchase" and $0. The correct statement would be as follows: After you download a free copy of SmartSHOW during the BitsDuJour promotion, it may be used for 12 months and will not function after that unless you renew your subscription.
Unfortunately, we cannot change the whole phrase in the Fine Print as there are phrase templates applied to every product (we can only choose the period etc.). So it's a good idea to clarify the license point here.
Please note that getting a free copy of excellent software for a year is a good deal anyway.
As for your final point, I can see our correspondence. The copy of the software you obtained a while ago was offered on a different website (SharewareOnSale to be exact). The terms and conditions of that offer were quite different from those here. There was a warning that the software can only be installed and registered on the promotion day, and cannot be reinstalled or transferred to another computer. The terms of the current offer are quite different, and outlined in the Fine Print.
AMS Software - Oct 28 2014 at 8:30am Copy Link

Peter User @AMS Software: "...getting a free copy of excellent software for a year is a good deal anyway." No - it´s NOT! Either I own the software - or not... Every company with such "offers" goes on my "blacklist" which includes all SW-producers of which I NEVER buy or install a program in the future. Keep your trash and good luck!

Stuart Clarke Software publishers do have the oddest ideas about the English language: one giveaway site after another is stuffed with retail products offered for nowt but which then cease to function after 3 months / 6 months / 12 months. What started out as a giveaway effectively turns out to be a grab-back. What looked like being an acquisition without limit of time -- which is what a purchaser would get for his / her money -- turns out to be an acquisition of restricted longevity, in some cases so restricted as to be downright absurd.

I have no idea what AMS Software is on about when referring to 'templates'. The description of a sales promotion isn't governed by any 'template'. A promotion can be of a product with lifetime upgrades, a product with no upgrades, a product with a 3 / 6 / 12 month licence, or a product which is actually a stripped down version of something else.

What AMS is offering today, then, is a slideshow product that costs $29 but is entirely free to use for the next 12 months.

Me, I think that's a good deal. I'm not one of those people who fill my HDD with programs 'cos they were all free (it's both sad and surprising, the number of pooter owners who do.) Instead, I install, and trial, and buy (or not) programs that to me are worth buying. Being given the opportunity of a year's free product usage of any software program is pretty darn good because:

(a) it saves me the trouble of the downloading a 30-day trial that may well be feature-crippled;

(b) it saves me laying out cash for the product;

(c) it enables me to thoroughly get to know it and, if I wish, use it over a period long enough for a competitor product to emerge, a competitor to whom I can migrate without ever having spent anything on my existing program.

If Peter User thinks that such a proposition (and that to which it relates) is "trash", then good luck to him. I can understand a certain weariness amongst consumers over the giveaways-that-are-not-giveaways but getting all hysterical about it seems a mite excessive.

Thanks, then, to AMS and BDJ for today's offer. I'm going to give it a spin. At first glance, it seems the developer has as little idea of what makes a decent slideshow as almost every other developer in this product sector: the instant that sales hype starts babbling about "over 100 transitions" is the instant it's time to run, ideally to one's home DVD player there to view any number of $multi-million movies, none of which will have more than four inter-scene transitions. The clumsy cross axial implementation of the Ken Burns Effect is inexplicable in 2014 considering that Microsoft Photostory was doing it better and for free in 2004, but AMS isn't alone in seemingly being unable to tell its x and y from a key frame.

But, but . . . The product is going to cost me nothing at all to try, to use and, if I so wish, keep for a full 12 months. That is indeed a good deal. But perhaps to help others suffering higher blood pressure than me over "free offers" such as this, AMS might in future simply come up with a, er, new template to the effect that SmartSHOW is being made available on a special offer that allows 12 months' usage of the full product without any charge at all.
Oct 29 2014 at 2:19am Copy Link

Lesley Knight @ Stuart Clarke, good point, thank you for your comment!

I'll try to clarify what I meant by templates.
While setting up the promotion on BDJ platform, we select options from the drop-down list exactly as you described: lifelong, 12 months, 6 months, etc. Then, the Fine Print section is generated based on our selections, but the sentence structure in this section is standard, i.e. there are sort of gaps to be filled in a pattern: After you purchase %programname% it may be used for %period%. The pattern itself cannot be changed, though, I mean we cannot replace "puchase" with "download" which would sound appropriate for a giveaway. There's some lack of flexibility in the CMS used here that vendors cannot fix.

As for slideshow software features, I strongly recommend that you check out SmartSHOW 3D - this is a much more advanced program than SmartSHOW, with a powerful 3D engine, keyframe animation, multiple slide layers - in a word, everything you could wish for in modern slideshow software. While SmartSHOW (the one on giveaway) is great for non-experienced users, SmartSHOW 3D enables you to create sophisticated slides with dozens of layers, each appearing when you wish and following its own animation path. You can check out the free demo: http://smartshow-software...wnload.php or take advantage of the special offer (50% off SmartSHOW 3D Deluxe) which is live here today.

Stephen Kreyling Eventually, if this is how the site operates with the "Free" being used for extended trials, people will go elsewhere for a better deal. Its nice it works for a year, but "Free" to me does not mean an extended trial. Maybe bits needs to correct their system and allow vendors to properly post the details using extended trial with expiration in x months. I think that would be more honest and I would assume more people will pass on offers from them.

You got a good product, but "Free" should not have an expiration, that is a true trial. Even paid software when the updates run out, it still works, you just dont get any new updates. Maybe the software should be Free for this version and future versions after the 1 year period has a cost. If people like the program and use it, they will pay for the latest.

Roderick Nicolson I have to agree with what is being said here. The word being bandied about - 'free' - is a misconception. If it were really being given away for free the receiver would become the owner and that would be that. The giver could not take it back from the receiver. In the real world that would be a crime.
What is the correct term then? I think 'trial' is quite good. We are given a time trial - whether 5 days or a 10 years. We have the right to use it for that time. After that the contract ends and the product becomes the possession of the giver again.
There are lots of these types of deals done in the real word but no one calls them free. Perhaps it's time for venders to take note before they antagonise the public too much with these misinterpretations of meaning. Sometimes what seems like a good idea may not be.
Apart from that the deal (or should I say trial) is a good one and I gratefully except this offer - who knows, if it is really good I may eventually purchase it.

_*_ Is it possible to explain what the upgrade policy would be for the paid version of the program?

I am thinking it is not what is listed in "The Fine Print" area which states:

"Upgrades to future versions of the software will require additional payment. Installing a new version may overwrite the existing version and invalidate your license key."

Thank you

Scott Van Leeuwen Thank you for offering your software free for 12 months. I do not understand why people are so angry about the fact they are given something for free and after 12 months they have to pay a subscription. I think many people are now starting to expect something for nothing which in my opinion is greedy. Just be happy that you can create as many slideshows in a 12 month period and be done with it.

Again, thank you software publisher.

Stuart Clarke Lesley: sincere apologies for being the inadvertent cause of bafflement. Turns out it's an exchange rate thing. I'm in the UK so the payment handler provided a GBP billing of £69.60 halved to £34.80. Switch that back to USD in the MyCommerce currency options and it's $102 to $51.

I really should wake up properly in a morning -- I'd forgotten I was looking at a re-check of the billing data. Not your fault; entirely mine. Sorry for confusion caused. The straight US price to US audiences is exactly as specified by AMS on this page.

Lesley Knight Thank you for the update Stuart! In fact, we occasionally get similar reports from our website visitors. In most cases the price difference is due to tax, but sometimes it's the MyCommerce conversion rate that may differ from the current rate in your country, and it's really a challenge for us to keep track of their conversion rate changing and ensure the prices are equal for everyone. So it's really clever of you and other customers to check and compare and contact us if there's a suspicious difference.

Stuart Clarke Wholeheartedly agree with Ben Paturzo: Lesley Knight has been a real star, and as the calibre of customer service is a reliable indicator of the quality of product, then far from being on David Voille's "black list", AMS should actually be heading the white-list of software developers worth dealing with.

As to BDJ and Facebook: I can't stand Facebook or the gibbering nonsense of stuff like Twitter. I go to the pub to meet real people for real chats and real fun. I don't need 'followers' and as I left the junior school playground many decades ago, I definitely don't need to 'like' or be 'liked'. The embarrassment would be too acute.

To get around the legitimate difficulty some BDJ users have with Zuckerberg et al, a little questionnaire has been devised. This offer, therefore -- but only if you're interested: no-one's making anyone do anything -- is an opportunity to enjoy entirely free usage of commercial software for 12 months instead of forking out hard cash for it.

Spending 2 minutes on a questionnaire to save yourself $29 would hardly strike any reasonable person as an outrageous disgraceful appalling ban-them-all proposition.
Oct 30 2014 at 11:45am Copy Link

David Volle Stuart seems to assume that I need a slideshow program and can't spend $29. Actually I have way better software, albeit much more expensive, for when I want to make a slideshow, which isn't that often.
In reality I try to review lots of programs, just to see whats out there. I routinely recommend software to many people, and am regularly asked for recommendations.
I'm happy to fund small software developers by buying their products, and often endorse such products to many other people when I find that they are truly great products. That is why i use BDJ.
I do Not use BDJ to be asked to like something I haven't used. If you need to ask me to like you before I try your product, then I'm guessing that your marketing overshadows your ethics.
On the other topic, being responsive, even highly responsive to all the questions generated by conflicting information in your marketing is NOT truly great customer service. It is nice but being clear in the first place is nicer!
Having all the necessary data readily available is the best plan, not answering all the questions generated by lack of data.
BDJ is great, and I like small software developers, but I have no interest in software that will be dependent on facebook likes or surveys. This company may be wonderful for the facebook fan world, it just isn't for me, and I choose to avoid companies that try to push their customer base in that direction. I'm hoping that BDJ isn't moving in that direction because I'll just unsubscribe and walk away.

Jim Buchanan Unfortunately I have to agree with Lesley Knight on the issue she brought up - "Please note that getting a free copy of excellent software for a year is a good deal anyway." if it does as it says. I've tried others but was not satisfied with the product. If this is good I may buy it outright if the price is not unreasonable. I refuse to put shareware on my computer (too many bad things have happened before) but my eye caught this one and I have decided to give it a try.
I also agree with those who say that "free" should mean free.
I can understand everybody who says that they want to "own" the product however few companies will sell you a licence to own - only to use and usually with a bunch of restrictions involved. As of yet I haven't found one that wanted my first born. The companies just want us to respect their right to own it and sell the rights to use it.
'nough said.

Stuart Clarke Quick update. Nice GUI, intuitive interface. User control over slide and transition duration . So far, so good. But after that? The pan-zoom function is hopeless: the software doesn't track across the image but simply swings the complete image around up, down, side to side. Typing in 'pan' into the Help index yields nothing at all. Microsoft's superb, free, Photostory 3, issued as long ago as 2003, effortlessly manages the Ken Burns effect: choose a section of an image as the start point, choose a different section of the image as an end point, and that's it. Done. No X axis to mess about with. No Y axis. The software tracks across the image as if it's a camera and you're watching a movie.

If AMS is serious about producing good quality slideshow software, it needs to go back to 2003 and see how it's done. Until this software incorporates simple, quick, effective key-framing, it's not a contender. Uninstalled.

Hi again Stuart, as I mentioned before in this thread, we strongly recommend that you check out SmartSHOW 3D - there is keyframe animation that can be applied to each of the slide layers, so each layer has its own animation path. SmartSHOW 3D is our latest development, and it has a wide range of advanced features that experienced users will appreciate, while SmartSHOW is a better choice for beginners. You can learn more about SmartSHOW 3D and get a free trial at http://smartshow-software.com.

Stuart Clarke Hi Lesley: I have tried SmartSHOW 3D but in my experience it's falling between two stools: the ambitious (and ambitiously expensive) ProShow Gold and the cheaper, simpler and inadequate offerings from outfits like Wondershare.

I can well see the layers facility appealing to those who don't want / can't afford ProShow and AMS's execution here is first-class. Against that though is the glaringly evident fact that animation implementation is waaaay too fussy, not helped by the developer's seeming inability to understand the difference between pan and zoom.

Skipping the zoom pre-sets, one of which is actually a horizontal pan pre-set but isn't labelled as such, and opting for manual control is going to defeat anyone seeking the quick and the effective -- AMS would do well to look at the freeware PhotoFilmStrip, a labour of love by a lone developer whose implemention of pan and zoom is amongst the best around. (Sadly, PFS isn't able to incorporate an audio track so it's more of a curiosity than of practical benefit. As a freeware work in progress though, it continues to show considerable promise.)

Other developers equally fail to get the animation side of things right, which really is inexcusable considering that the whole point of a slideshow is that it doesn't look like a simple screensaver but a series of motion picture frames. By way of illustration, NCH Photostage tries to make a go of it where keyframing is concerned but the software coding is so clunky overall that it's not worth the bother and NCH's persistent attempts at selling-up to associated products are risible.

From what I've seen of AMS's work it's clear that a lot of thought has gone into it by a reputable developer. But it seems to me that, yet again, a developer is being seduced by the prospect of over-loading its software with all kinds of fripperies and embellishments at the expense of keeping things simple, controllable, and intuitively useable. Hopefully as SmartSHOW 3D matures, unnecessary complexities will be thrown out and attention to simple fundamentals will come to the fore because at the end of the day, not only does simplicity actually work, simplicity actually . . Sells. Best wishes to all.

Lesley Knight @ Doug
Yes, these are totally different products. As I explained above, SmartSHOW and SmartSHOW 3D are two different programs (with a Standard and a Deluxe version for each of them). You can find all the website links in my comment above.
SmartSHOW 3D is not even an enhanced version of SmartSHOW as it has a completely different engine inside. You can only spot some similarities in the interfaces, as both programs were developed by AMS Software and both are used for slideshow creation.
SmartSHOW is a very basic program compared to SmartSHOW 3D, good for beginners and for the non-tech savvy.
The most important features of SmartSHOW 3D (not found in SmartSHOW) are as follows:
- multiple layers on a single slide (multiple images, text blocks, cliparts etc.)
- keyframe animation for slide layers
- 3D animation effects for photos and text
- separate audio tracks for music and for voice comments
- special effects like falling leaves, snow, fire, sparkles etc. (based on 3D particles motion)
In a word, there are immensely more possibilities in SmartSHOW 3D.
I hope this answers your question.

Is there a way to tell if I have the real version and it will not disappear after a certain time has passed. The Help file is standard for demo and full versions, it is stored in the program resources folder and not changed. There is a link to the order page inside the Help file for those who are still in the trial period. If you can add more than 15 slides to your project and there is no watermark in the video created, it means that you are using the full version.
As for the expired license, the license you received before was valid for one year. Please note that when you get a free version, you should not download and install any updates or new copies as this may invalidate your license and lock the software (see Fine Print).

Tod Brannen Leslely,

I thought that these downloads were valid for life but without any free upgrades or support. If it was only a 1 year license before, then I did not know about it.
Also I never upgraded or downloaded anything which I know can knock a free license back to trial mode every time. I only did one test project on the previous version and then when this version came out, I opened the previous version to check if it was the same. That is when I was notified that it was expired. What I want to know is this: is there a way to turn off any stealth updates or downloads that may automatically happen when the program is run? I could not find anything in the Help file about it.

Thanks

Pequi Smith SmartSHOW v2.15 is probably the simplest and best slideshow maker out there. I bought it for a computer illiterate friend, and she makes great slideshows. It's a pity that the 3D version does not work with standard (more or less obsolete XP) video drivers. A programming error, if you can watch the video on the PC, there is no reason why you should not be able to encode a slideshow using the same drivers. To those of you with the newest and "bestist" hardware, go for the 3D version.

To Stroe ... the serial is sent via email. Check your spam folder.

Thanks a lot for your feedback!
The 3D version needs the latest graphics drivers because creating scenes with the 3D animation engine is really quite different from simply playing the video, and requires a lot of processing power. Therefore, we always recommend installing the latest driver available on the hardware vendor's website, compatible with the user's Windows version.

Lesley Knight @ Metta Zetty I noticed your question about the version differences.
SmartSHOW and SmartSHOW 3D are in fact two different programs, not two versions of the same product.
SmartSHOW is a basic slideshow maker, great for beginners. It has all the necessary features for making a photo slideshow with music.
Official website: http://slideshow-maker.com
SmartSHOW 3D is professional-level software. It allows users to combine photos and videos, put multiple photos on the same slide, create 3D animation with keyframes, add voice commentaries, and a lot more. There are hundreds of ready-made templates for a quick start.

Lesley Knight @ _*_
The user obviously had an issue when dealing with the update notification. Perhaps he downloaded the new version trial while he is no longer eligible for free updates. Doing so deletes the installed version and the user needs to ask for tech support assistance in order to restore the previous version. He may choose to upgrade to the latest version, though. That's what I suppose, but obviously, I can't ask for the user's registration details here on BitsDuJour. That's what Customer Service is for.

J. User I purchased three of the software products AMS sells and have had both of them revert to expired trial versions which I can no longer access. The third one has not passed the 12 months yet so that is probably why it still works.

It's a nuisance to have to fill in a support request for software that comes with a lifetime license. Neither of the software products were updated, so the problem has nothing to do with a newer version being installed. If I were in any way dependent on this software I would be out of luck.

Christian User @JPR85470 you are right !!!!!
I have the same problem precisely and I advise against the purchase of the AMS products strongly
If the software is correct the system of activation is a swindle !
As soon as an update is announced after the free period of one year it shows off to the launching of the software and disactivate definitely your license !!!!
Impossible to bring the code of deactivation again in. This last is not accepted anymore..
It is a maneuver to oblige the customer to buy the new update.
Besides the software cannot be activated again in case of change of PC !!!!
Finally the license is only valid for one year, the year of the free updates....
As a registered user of the version pro (deluxe) I won't tempt a new experience with this publisher.....
I have just passed one week with the support so that one finally gives me a new serial that permits to open the software....
How long ? The time of production of the version 9 ?
It is worth to pay better for a more important sum and to turn toward serious publishers as those of "picture to exe" or "proshow" .....

I need a new hard drive and I am going to find out if that is true that if/when I get the new hard drive I can no longer use the Photo Calendar Creator software. IF that is true then they can have the two versions of it that I just bought back.

I find that hard to believe though. NO SOFTWARE company does that that I have ever come in contact with. You may have to contact them, but I have never been told that if my computer had issues and I had to change computers that I could not take my software with me.

Perhaps there is some misunderstanding on this.

1. When you order any of our products, you get a life-long license for the version you purchase, and one year of free updates and tech support. When a year has passed, you can choose whether you just want to keep the version you own, or renew your license and get another year of free updates and support.
Errors like the one mentioned by Christian User do happen sometimes - according to our engineers, there was some issue on our activation server which seems to have been fixed by now, but some keys may still be affected. Anyway, if this happens to you, tech support will help you get the software working again. Make sure you don't lose your order ID as they will need it in such case.
2. The license definitely allows you to transfer the purchased software to another computer if your hard disk crashes, if you buy a new computer etc.
Please note that this applies to purchased software only. If you got a free copy of the software during a giveaway promotion, you are not allowed to transfer it to another PC.
So, SmartSHOW Standard offered on this page can't be transferred to another machine (see Fine Print), whereas SmartSHOW 3D and any other purchased software can.

I thank you for these explanations (that should appear besides clearly on your site)
You recognize that the problems of deactivation of the software Smartshow met by several users in this conversation were the consequence of problems
on your servers therefore of the AMS problems....
I spent several days with your support (my time being as precious as yours) to try to explain the problem of deactivation of the software that was not the consequence of an update, (difficult explanations because I am a French user).
I think that since the problem is incumbent upon you it would have been a good commercial politics to offer the update toward the version 8 to all those that have been touched by this problem.
It would permit to erase the (very) bad impression felt on this occasion maybe....
But it is your turn to appreciate this suggestion.......

Roz Fruchtman @Leslie Knight:

I was deterred in buying the Premium Copy of SmartShow 3D Deluxe offered as an upsell because of all the problems listed here, so missed out on the $17 offer.

Since we did communicate and you can see my concerns in black and white, do you think I could get the offer as a courtesy? I came over to buy, but when I read all the issues and was upset about my own experience having to buy two licenses to use Photo Calendar Pro, I just held back. NOW that you explain, I would like to purchase at the discounted price if possible. It would surely show good customer service on your part.

I will say that I have had very good experience with your customer service so far, but this is a new issue.

I will also admit that this is the first time I have experienced this issue with buying software and not being able to put on a computer and laptop. It is NOT the norm.

Thanks again for anything you can do here,

Roz Fruchtman At @Lesley Knight - THANK YOU ... VERY much.

I will contact AMS today, without fail.

I APPRECIATE YOUR KINDNESS VERY much.

I'm going to be doing a new launch and this should come in very handy.

It would be great if you had the licensing (how many machines) for your softwares on their sales page. For example: if you buy the standard, YOU CAN install on two systems - desktop and laptop. IF you buy the upper programs Pro or Deluxe you CANNOT install on two systems. So you need to buy TWO licenses. That is VERY unusual compared to other softwares, so would help for someone to know that upfront. Especially if there is a deal, they can buy two of the deals if they choose to or just buy the one. But there would be choice.

Thanks again for your kindness.

Jeff Usher Be very wary of this company and it's offers. I too purchased SmartShow3d a while back ( 2 years ) and recently had to wipe my PC. The download link in the email I was sent after purchase no longer worked. After emailing their customer support I am told there is nothing they can do as they do not keep previous versions.I would have to upgrade and pay for the priviledge. So I now have sofware that I purchased and cannot be used as this company holds you to ransom until you elect to upgrade. I should be able to download the version of the software I paid for, not be forced to pay for an upgrade to continue to use it. Will not be purcashing products from this company again and suggest others do not either until they sort their licencing / update policy out.

We'll certainly consider different introducing types of license, for one or multiple users. We already have a differentiation like this for some of our programs, such as Businss Card Maker for example.

@ Jeff Usher
I am extremely sorry that we cannot assist you. The problem is that your order did not include Extended Download Service, or Download Protection, which is included in all new orders by default. The customer can certainly choose to remove this service from the shopping cart if he prefers to make a backup copy of the installer by himself. You don't have to purchase updates if you just keep to your purchased version, and have a backup copy of it. However, it is clear from your support ticket that you did not back up the software before downloading and installing the new version. I'm afraid we cannot assist you in this case.

Roz Fruchtman @Jeff Usher and @Lesley Knkight and everyone...

It's a good idea to keep a backup of software.

Also the software should be available for download more than once. This is NOT the norm for other companies.

Most companies make the software available free of charge for download. It's the norm, but in case it's not, then one has to be diligent and make their own backups.

The clue is when they are offering to charge you for a redownload.

I have NEVER downloaded my Photo Calendar Pro and I hope there will not be a problem with that as I bought both versions recently.

Lesley Knight @ Stephen Waters I looked into your support ticket (#28967) and it shows that our operator was absolutely right. You downloaded the free version of the software during a 24-hour giveaway. The terms and conditions clearly state that the free version can only be installed and registered on the promotion day (see Fine Print above). You should have asked for support on the same day. Otherwise, there is no way we could help you. It is technically impossible to activate the giveaway version on a different day. We're really sorry, but at the same time, we strongly recommend to read the promotion terms in order to avoid inconveniences like this in the future.

It's the same file AMS provided for the sale, exactly the same size, the one analyzed on VirusTotal (see scan result in my comment above). Installed with no issues for me, no warnings from ESET NOD 32 either. So you really don't need to worry. The browsers might be a bit too suspicious, maybe because it's an EXE file and it was created a few days ago, especially for the sale, and hasn't gained sufficient reputation yet.

Marge N NO MALWARE FOUND & THE SOFTWARE IS EASY TO USE & FAST TO PRODUCE AN INTERESTING SLIDESHOW. THANKS TO BDJ & AMS Software for an interesting tool.

I've trusted BDJ for years now, so I took the risk of overriding Firefox's warning (when it pops up, you can click "Open" to run the downloaded installer). And proceeded to update my Malwarebytes Anti-Malware & scan everything I could think of, with all good results! Details of scanning program folder, my system, the installer & my test slide show are below. (Where I goofed was forgetting to create a Restore Point before downloading the SmartSHOW installer - but I got lucky this time, and I'd only checked weather & email & BDJ since my last restart.)

All the Malware testing I did:

I used Malwarebytes & scanned the installed program's folder. Results were clean:

Being cautious, I ran a Malwarebytes Quick Scan to check the system as it was running:

Finally, I remembered to scan the installer itself (which wasn't there until I clicked "Open" in Firefox):

HJ B Firefox found this installer to be a risk, and would not permit download to execute, unless I overrode the prohibition. Based on that and other comments here, I did not override. I suggest that the developer get the problem resolved and offer it again in the future.

I also downloaded the paid, "3d" verson and there was no problem with that. It worked very nicely, I should note that, using one of the provided templates, I added five photos, and some music, and the resulting video file was abut 18 meg. The jpg photos totaled a bit more than 1.meg and the mp3 music was a bit more than 3 meg.

I would have to do more testing before purchasing the 3e version, and I will not have the time to do that for a couple of weeks.

The error you mention is a Windows error, and it can occur with various applications. To get rid of it, you need to browse to C:\Windows\SysWOW64 and remove these files:
ippcore-6.1
ippj-6.1
ippjw7-6 .. 1

Lesley Knight @ HJ B It's really weird that you got a video of this size if it's true that the photos totalled 1 MB. It might be due to high-res backgrounds and sophisticated effects, but we'd need to see the project to say for sure. I suggest that you contact tech support at http://smartshow-software/support.php when you have the time - they'll look into this and tell you what the reason could be.

Serious Noize Chrome blocked this saying it was malicious. To get around this for chrome press CTRL J and select to keep the file. If you want you can run the file through Virus Total to check it like I did. It shows up totally clean.

In my opinion this is a great program for making slideshows. I have been using version 2.0 and would like to ask if there is a link to "What's New" in this version by comparison.

Thank you Slideshow Maker & BDJ!

Kick65 Does SmartSHOW 3D Deluxe v8.0 ($17) have the same "fine print" limitations as the free version? Why version 8.0 instead of 8.25 or can we update to 8.25 without paying more?

Frank User Thanks for CTRL J top to get Chrome to retain the file. This time Chrome had only offered Discard w/o the usual pull down options to keep it.
I read something Fri or Sat about a new change within latest versions of Chrome having to do with what it determines to be bad/dangerous sites. Maybe Chrome now overly sensitive about its selection process. So much for 'open internet'.
There's a time for better safe than sorry but this is a real stretch if blocking sites like this one here.Good thing I set up IE 11 and Edge (Edge not so bad now).

Lesley Knight @Serious Noize Thank you for your feedback! Here's what's new in v.2.15:
- enhanced slideshow creation wizard - you can choose the slideshow speed, the types of animation effects to use etc.
- automatic zoom on faces - the program uses a special face detection module to find photos with faces on them and then zooms in on those faces (you can adjust the zoom level)
- improved DVD creation module that can burn DVDs with chapters (it's not available in the Standard version, though)

Lesley Knight @Kick65 - No, of course not, the fine print on this page is for the giveaway version only. SmartSHOW 3D is not on giveaway, it's only offered as an exciting alternative here. You can find the license terms on this page under Fine Print: https://www.bitsdujour.co...eview=4464
>Why version 8.0 instead of 8.25 or can we update to 8.25 without paying more?
It should say v.8.25 actiually, the line needs to be updated. You should get the latest version when you order. Even if something goes wrong, updates for SmartSHOW 3D are totally free within 12 months after purchase, and you can download 8.25 immediately.

R Master OK, I just have to post this, due to about 5 attempts to activate the software. First, I had to go to the website to download the program, due to all the problems listed in the comments here regarding virus warnings, malicious files, etc.

Tried activating after purchase, and get error message, go to website and at there is the exact error message, which was good, saying you can't activate trial version.

Next, I had to uninstall the trial version and download the 'full' version and it has an identical login screen and procedure, that does not work for other reasons, so it prompts to activate via an email to tech support.

Guess what? Email came back as undeliverable, I checked and correct information used, so not my error.

Finally, had to go to website and open a trouble ticket. Wasted well over an hour of my time with this Mickey Mouse, and no response yet.

I will re-think very carefully any future purchases from ams-soft now, and unless you like convoluted and cascade-failure style activation sequences, you might want to think about it too.

Expect a little better screening of these things from Bits du Jour too, usually purchase experiences here are a lot better. Bits: Vet the next special from this company, please.

Lesley Knight @ R Master I'm really sorry that you're having difficulties activating the software, but tech support will assist you in a few moments.
I can see that you ordered SmartSHOW 3D Deluxe, not the free giveaway version, so there shouldn't have been any problems like blocked downloads mentioned above.
It is true that SmartSHOW 3D trial cannot be activated, so your next step (download the full version) is correct. If it prompts to activate via an email to tech support, it means that something on your computer doesn't let the software access our activation server - could be strict firewall settings or something else. In this cases, automatic activation fails and you have to contact support, which you did.
So please don't worry, our support staff will respond to your ticket shortly.
As for the email, you got an auto-reply because all support is now provided via the ticketing system, not via email. This was only introduced recently, and we'll update the offline activation screen with the support address in the next software update.

Serious Noize Since my review yesterday, I had a computer problem and had to restore my PC from image backup "Which this version wasn't on it, only a previous version".

IT HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH THIS GIVEAWAY OFFER!

Either way that's my problem and my fault, but it was a glitch in Windows 10 and had nothing to do with the makers of this software for those wondering.

I just wanted to say that while I know having a server setup a licensing system with "One code fits All on a specific day" is easy to do and all they have to do is turn off the option later.

It would be nice for individual license on giveaways to be available for 2 months like I noticed Abylon software offered.

Most of us who get these giveaway software's like trying new things with our PC's and sometimes they work and other times they don't and sometimes rolling back is the best option.

So your left in a situation not being able to use the promotional giveaway like in my case, or using a previous giveaway. "NOT COMPLAINING".

And NO : It is NOT FREE BY THE WAY, and YES I SAID THAT, WHY : "Because for one thing a lot of times software companies are allowed a TAX WRITE OFF for promotional giveaways and in a sense giving away a limited or certain amount of licenses is their way of SELLING THE SOFTWARE" some people don't realize this, but yes that is a fact depending on some factors. NOT SAYING THAT IS WHAT IS GOING ON HERE, Just SAYING : "IT IS A THOUGHT WHERE GIVEAWAY SOFTWARE IS CONCERNED".... AND NOT A BAD THING AT ALL.

Either way, Those are my suggestions to BDJ, Even a 1 WEEK Individual license would be great.

A lot of times users don't trust the software or provider and with good reason these days because one wrong press of the button could GIVEAWAY information they don't want out there.

Thank you Slideshow!! I'm not knocking your company or nothing here, just giving suggestions and pointing a few things out. These are MY OPINIONS so people can take them as they wish.

Hey : "Here's the thing, and the the bottom line plain truth, I think the software is GREAT! And I can always get a trial of it, but in my situation I can't buy it right now or maybe never, not everyone is blessed with options. But I am grateful for this promotion and wanted to express my experience to better inform this site and the software promoters. I think the new version is better, but I can't say that for the reasons mentioned.

Although I will say, I've used the older giveaway version enough to know : "YEP, If the stars align and I can afford it, I'm buying the top of the line version by the company because it is the best!!! And I have tried them all....

Thanks for the opportunity! I felt I should come back and reply on a review on user experience and such things because feedback I believe has a lot to do with these promotions also.

Happy Holidays!

Marek User @Lucinda Leong:
Do you represent the developer of SmarShow? If so, my remarks and question are addressed to you.

1.
You wrote: "Please note that you must activate it today and you shouldn't reinstall it afterwards." Hmmm, and what if my system hard disc or the whole system crashes and I’ll have to reinstal all soft on the same computer (with a new hard disc)? What follows from you wrote is that such unfortunate event will mean good–bye to SmartShow because "I should not reinstall...". Sorry, but this is quite an unsmart concept of allegedly smart softwre as the name ShartShow impies.

2. What format(s) has the output produced by SmartShow? You do not seem to have provided info about that aspect which is crucial, specifically after the "flash era".

1. The version that is on giveaway here can only be installed and activated on the promotion day - that's one of the giveaway conditions. Please note that we are offering excellent software for free. It would cost you $29 otherwise. You can regard it as a full functional free trial with no other limitations (no watermark and like). As a developer, we naturally hope that you'll take your time use to evaluate our software while working with the giveaway build and perhaps upgrade to a paid version later on. The SmartSHOW brand has been well-known and popular for several years now, so we're not a small startup that holds gives their product away for free just to raise brand awareness. I hope you can understand our reasons for holding a giveaway:)

2. Here are the output formats for the free version:
- MP4 HD (720p or 1080p)
- AVI
- EXE
- 3GP
- MKV
- WMV
- ASF
- MOV
Additionally, there are presets for mobile devices and video sharing websites.
The paid version also lets you burn DVDs and make FLV/SWF video.

Marek User Thank you for your extensive reply. Let me explain why I was astonished with the mode in which you offer ShartShow.

I know you are not a small start-up company and I have your SmartShow version offered here in December 2016,with the same version number, but different installation file sizes ( 75 k difference). I also do understand quite reasonable and common commercial concept to encourage free soft users to upgrade to paid versions.

Hovewer you seem not to be aware that other software companies offering free versions with the same commercial concept in mind, have successfully managed to allow several–time installations on the same computer in case the system/disc crashes which on the one hand allows your prospective paying customer to enjoy your software as long as the user’s appetite for better soft stimulates him/her to upgrade, and on the other hand protects the developer against unauthorised dissemination of the soft.

Unfortunately, your reply seems to imply that you’ll continue your policy that made me woner how smart all that smartness is. Anyway, good luck!

Colin McAllister Once again I haven't received receipt nor registration details. Have I done something to annoy BDJ? :-)

Why can't registration details be in the page that comes up after download? My PC crashed badly, was reset to new, and I have only been able to reinstall a few of the BDJ programs I'd previously bought, as the emails had been time-deleted.

(I know I could have backed them up, but it's never been a issue in the past, plus often an upgraded version of a program will appear with a year, so the license gets overwritten anyway).

If you could please email me the registration key before the offer expires, I'd be grateful. Thanks.

I also requested in our system (which sends the receipt emails) to verify your email address. This means you will receive an email message from the system and in order to verify your email address you would have to follow the instructions from that email.

j User With the exception of a technical glitch in Home Photo Studio Gold (which may have been addressed by now), AMS Software is pretty good overall. The same cannot be said for their activation process. I purchased three products and have experienced the same problem with all. At various times each stopped working, usually after the update period had expired, even though the licenses are lifetime. Pop-up messages indicating the expiration would appear. It's annoying to have to contact technical support, no matter how courteous they are, over continuous activation issues. I have since given up and no longer have any of the applications installed.

oleTeacher Seems like very nice software but everyone should know that even the deluxe version is limited to one (1) computer install.

Very silly. If I had to pay full price would not keep. Since I (and many internet nomads) travel a lot need on my laptop and desktop. Use on laptop when need to get simple product out or killing time in hotel room. Then, when I return to my home office, use on my large screen desktop.

I am told by support that can buy another copy to use on second computer, no thanks....

It's great that the activation issue does not occur for the latest versions, but it should be the same for prior versions as well. Anyone who paid should be able to use the product for which they paid without having to buy the latest version, if they don't need any of the added features.

As I said before, I don't even have any of the products installed because of the hassle of having to periodically contact technical support over the activation. It's annoying to go to open an app and be greeted by a trial expiration message and find your license key no longer works.
