Brian H Hi- I am interested in this product! I noticed on your website that you have another product, "Video Editing SDK 2.0", however there is no purchase price listed. How does "Video Editing SDK 2.0" compare to the product you are offering here, "SolveigMM Video Splitter"? Will the two products be merged, eventually? Also, does "SolveigMM Video Splitter" have some advantages, features or benefits that some of the other video editors on the market (such as CyberLink PowerDirector, Corel VideoStudio Pro X4, Adobe Premiere Elements ... ) don't? IOW, anything that sets it apart from its competition? Thanks. -Brian

Dmitry Vergeles Hi Brian, to get SDK prices and licensing terms please contact us thought this form
http://www.solveigmm.com/en/support/

The Splitter uses SolveigMM Video Editing engine to have know-how approaches of non-degradative frame accuracy editing of cutting-edge video standards, like AVC/H264, MPEG2, Windows Media, etc (MP4,MOV,AVCHD,MKV,ASF,AVI)

so, does "SolveigMM Video Splitter" have some advantages, features or benefits that some of the other video editors on the market (such as CyberLink PowerDirector, Corel VideoStudio Pro X4, Adobe Premiere Elements ... ) don't?

Of course. None of them (as far as I know) allow fast and lossless editing of compressed data with so wide range of video types. Be aware thet Command line interface and batch tasks support are on board :)

HBOY I have tried this product along with Boilsofts video splitter, both are great products. The only thing that might sway me towards Boilsoft is that they have lifetime upgrades and if Im not mistaken yours is free updates for a year. If Im wrong I apologize. The way video formats are changing every time you turn around the lifetime upgrades look pretty good.

Dmitry Vergeles Hello HBOY, thank you for question.

Our upgrade policy is follows.
Customers are entitled to free upgrades within the major version of the product.

We usually provide our existing customers upgrade from one major version to another with good discount.

Some users that have purchased the product before some time of the new major version release can get free upgrade to this major version.

Michael R. Split/Merge are the things I really do the most. Until now I use mainly Womble's MPEG Video Wizard, which supports lossless MPEG-splitting/joining too, but unfortunately all other formats have to be reencoded.

So, which of the formats listed on your homepage (MPEG-2, MPEG-1, AVI, WMV, ASF, MP4, MOV, MKV, AVCHD, MP3, WMA files) can be splitted/joined without reencoding - of course with the exception of some frames at the beginning/end?

Can this be tested in the demo-version too? How is the demo-version limited (time/functionality)?

Thanks a lot...

Dmitry Vergeles All :) We don't add new format support if it is not processed in a smart way.

AVCHD, MOV, MKV, MP4, MPEG-2, MPEG-1, Windows Media files can be edited with Frame accuracy and K-Frame accuracy

AVI files are only supported with K-Frame accuracy editing

Both modes are losless and very fast, the difference is explained at this page:

DrTeeth The regular price for this program seems to be 39.95 Euro which = 52.81 USD. I cannot see where the 149.85 USD comes from.

The prices need checking before this goes live. I really want this but for 50 USD, no chance.

Michael K I bought this program in March 2011 for the particular purpose of editing one video which it did well and quickly such that I wrote to Bits suggesting it be looked at as a future promotion.

The version I bought was 2.5 and it's not gone from there progressively through to version 3 but just made the jump to version 3 which forces me to be left behind or pay the 50% upgrade cost which is the same as the Bits Buy Now price..

Personally, I don't like being left behind in under 12 months of a purchase unless I dig again in to my pocket and it does cause me pause for thought.

Since you can't use a single license to install the program on a laptop and a PC at the same time, I'd be better off to buy V3 at the Bits price and leave the 2.5 version on my other machine rather than pay to upgrade price.which is the same but would then only be on one of my computers.

I like to see developers who make their money from adding new customers to there user base and not so much from forcing existing customers to to pay in order to keep current, particularly so within a 12 month period.

Indeed in this particular case, even if you'd bought the product as recently as December 1, 2011, you'd now be forced to pay the upgrade price of 50% - $24.97 to be current and that kind of policy does not sit well with me.

Thanks

Dmitry Vergeles Hi Michael,

First of all thank you for being our customer!
Our upgarde policy is clearly stated at the Splitter home page:
It is as follows:

Customers are entitled to free upgrades within the major version of the product.
?ustomers who purchased SolveigMM Video Splitter 2.5 version from December 19, 2011 to January 19, 2012, can receive free upgrade to 3.x version.

2nd version of the Splitter was issued
2.0.801.06, 2008-01-06

3rd
3.0.1201.19, 2012-01-19

As you can see, there is a 4 year gap. We don't force customers to upgrade. If you want you can use version 2.5, it is still available at the site, and will be available at cusomers request.

Michael K @ Dimitry

I'd appreciate some information on the portable version:

For example, Does the portable version allow the program to be installed on a computer as well as a portable device and at the same time, or only on the portable usb drive?

In addition, does the file being edited using the portable version also have to be on the same device or can that be on the computer or another external drive?

What is the position in getting the program reinstalled on anther portable device in the event of a failure or reformat. I have had problems with several usb solid state thumb drives in the past and am vary of them as a result.

Is there a difference in job processing speed in using the portable version and can it be used on any windows PC, even one that may not belong to me?

Any other information concerning the portable version you consider to be helpful in deciding between the ordinary and portable versions would be appreciated as I can't see any detail about it on the website.

By the way, I just went to your website product comparison page and it seems to be somewhat out of date. The price on that page for Video Splitter is shown as Eur 29.95 and not 39.95 and the version reference is still 2.3.

Thanks

Dmitry Vergeles --For example, Does the portable version allow the program to be installed on a computer as well as a portable device and at the same time, or only on the portable usb drive?

Sure. But if you want to use it both on PC and 1 USB, you need two licenses. An additional license is required for each extra storage.

Any place.

Just delete previous one, instal new one and enjoy :)

No difference actually.

Sure, the license is per storage, not per PC.

Well, the only difference is licensing model.

Alexander Deliyannis Two questions:

1. I'm a licensed user of version 2. If I understand correctly, the price to upgrade to version 3 is 50% of the full license, which equals today's offer. Is my understanding correct? (In this case I'd rather buy a new license for v.3 at today's price as it means I can keep my v.2 license for a secondary PC.)

2. I have found that the Join Manager tool in v.2 crashes quite often. I had the experience trialing it on machines running both Windows XP and 7. has this been resolved in v.3?

Dmitry Vergeles Hello David,

The difference between usual and pro is a type of usage - personal or commercial one as defined below:

"End User" (personal usage) means any individual or entity that purchases or otherwise obtains the Software, either as a stand-alone or as an integrated part of the SolveigMM's Product, for personal use or use within the company but not for Commercial use, re-selling, transferring or otherwise distribution.

"Commercial use" means usage in such manner that the Software is intended primarily for End User's direct revenue-generating use or is intended to serve as a main resource to generate revenue for End User, including monitoring and testing equipment

Michael R. I installed the demo-version and tried it out some hours. [ And than bought it, with the faith some problems will be solved in the coming time and perhaps some additional useful features for me (see below) will be implemented too... ;-) ]

I produced some good results from a hd-tv-mpeg-recording and from a mts-file of my digicam.

The most important thing is - of course - the native handling of the video-files, which results in a lossless result, fast compilation and no larger files than the original.

I also run into some problems here and than, but when checking your history page, I found out you quite often offer updates of your software, so I'm quite confident that they will disappear soon...

E.g. I cut out some scenes from a video A.. The result B was - as intended - smaller than the original. Checking it out, I found out, I forgot to remove a start-sequence. So I tried to do this on the resulted file B. Strangely this results in a video-file C, which was larger than B. Checking it's contents SVS inserted some additional scenes...

But there were some things I would like to have in there too:

At first, I am missing the possibility to be able to work with .flv-files. Any chance to add them?

Also it would be great, if the user could optionally define a video-clip, which would be automatically inserted at each cut.

Also, I would like to have the possibility to make a snapshot of the currently displayed frame. Of course there are plenty of program which allow making a snapshot, but if a user want's to do both hand it hand, it is very uncomfortable to call another program, jump to the frame displayed in SVS and make the snapshot there.
Since you have implemented a way to use command-line-arguments, I really would like to have a way to let SVS create these snapshots out of a command-line.

Also the ability to jump to the next scene-change would be very convenient for trimming. With scene change I mean the possibility to jump to the first frame, which has a certain higher percentage of change between a frame and it's predecessor.

Thanks for listening...

J S I'm looking to use some sort of editing program for use with my TopField TRF2460 PVR's - as well as various downloads I have (but those are mostly AVi format).

I saw this program last time it was promoted and was tempted & I WOULD BUY this program in a heartbeat BUT, for 2 QUESTiONS:

Q1. When do you anticipate that *.AVi editing be included in frame by frame editing?

Q2. You've mentioned v3.4 but how much time before you go to v4.x?

Q3. Have you considered offering a "for the life of the product" upgrades purchase option (some would call it lifetime or perpetual license)?

That being said I'm not sure what type of files are on my PVR, so I 'might' purchase the program and test the program out over the next 30 days.

Q3. Have you considered offering a "for the life of the product" upgrades purchase option (some would call it lifetime or perpetual license)? [I would pay twice the 50% OFF promotion price for such peace of mind regarding upgrades, it gives You immediate extra funding and it locks customers to your product for life]

V4 should be released somewhere in 2013.

Mike B Some thoughts from a Solveig Video Splitter user (v3):

I'm a very occasional user of Video Splitter. I want to grab clips from DVDs, MP4 files, etc. probably about half a dozen times a year - like I said, an occasional user.

Solveig is the only reasonably priced (when it's on sale) solution that I have found that works for me. Other free or priced-for-personal-use software to grab clps that I have tried were either too confusing for me to use or reason simply wouldn't deal with the videos I tried to open for whatever reason. Solveig's splitter has an interface that I can use, and it generally is able to deal with the files I feed it.

For example, I recently tried to grab a clip using the current version ACDSee's Video Converter Pro, and I found the UI to be confusing and difficult to use for clipping.

I wish Solveig's license were a little more liberal (either per-user or allow 2 or 3 machines), but it hasn't really been a problem for me. Whenever I go to install it after a period of disuse (so the machine might have been reformatted or replaced) there hasn't been an issue with DRM refusing to let me proceed (so I believe that there is no DRM). Also, I wish that the upgrade discount applied to more than just the most recent version so I could upgrade my v3 whenever I wanted.

I'll probably go ahead and purchase this V5 half-price deal to keep the software up to date (this is the same price an as upgrade would be).

Rick I have been using SolveigMM Video Splitter going back to version 3 and it has proven to be the most versatile, efficient and reliable video splitter that I have used within and moderately above the 50 dollar price range. Versatility, reliability and efficiency combined with good technical support are why I would recommend this product.

The above noted, installation on two computers (i.e., the industry standard) and a 60% upgrade discounts for existing users would be ideal and more consistent with other products that I purchase.

FinanceGuy I am surprised that there are so many raves about this product. I just installed it to try it out. After cutting an AVI file, VLC gives me an error when trying to play it (AVI index broken or missing). I have never had this issue with Bandicut, which I have been using so far.

Michael R. It would be great to have a way to jump quickly to the first/last frame of a current video-scene, i.e. to the next frame which differs in a relevant way from it's previous frame. It's quite time-consuming to find the exact frame, where to cut.

Also a hotkey for a snapshot would be nice...

Thank you.

Dmitry Vergeles Hello Michael,

Thank you for your post.
We will possibly add such feature to Video Splitter next releases.
Meanwhile to select the right frame you can zoom the timeline to the "frame" view and navigate to right frame and set the marker.
To move from one marker to another you can use Tab and Shift+Tab hot keys.

>>Also a hotkey for a snapshot would be nice...
Ok. We will add such feature to the next release.

franp User Hi,

You website list th containers supported (avi, mkv, mp4 ...) but not the codecs supported.
Does it mean you support ANY codec ?
What, for example, about x265 in mkv container ?
Also, does it trim/split (other than forced, encrusted) subtitles in a mkv container while triming/spliting the whole video ?

Dmitry Vergeles Hi franp User,

Thank you for your post.
There are supported all formats specified at the product webpage:
http://www.solveigmm.com/...-splitter/

Supported codecs are:
H264\AVC1, MPEG-1, MPEG-2, MPEG-4, DIVX, XVID, MJPEG, WMV1, WMV2, WMV3, MPEG Audio, PCM, AC3, AAC.

x265 codec is not yet supported by Video Splitter. But some work was already made to support H265/HEVC. It is available for .hevc and .ts files.

Yes, we plan to add the support of H.265/HEVC codec to Video Splitter.
The exact time when this will be done is regrettably yet unknown.

FinanceGuy It appears that there is currently an issue with frame accurate editing of avi files (error "start time is after end time"). Tech support informed me that you are working on a fix. This is an important feature for me and I am inclined to purchase today, trusting that an update will be available soon. Do you have any information when that may be the case?

Dmitry Vergeles Hello Flo,
Thank you for your post.
We believe to have the update with the fix ready in the near future.
Meanwhile as the temporary solution you can disable Frame Accuracy (Smart Mode) in Control menu to prevent this error message.

The current major version is 6. So if there will be upgrade in future to version 7, the upgrade for you will be with 50% discount or for free depending the time when the purchase was made and the next major version was released.
More information about upgrade policy can be found here:

We do not add virus to installation, it is 100% clean. So you can temporary disable your firewall to download the program.

Tony Lee I bought a copy. Not sure I'm crazy about the interface, but it does the job very well (once you get used to it) if all you want to do is cut parts out of videos.

I've been looking for a software like this for a while. All the others I tried make you change the file format etc. which gives you these huge files in the end even when you are shortening the video.

This software enables you to cut out the junk you dont want without changing any formats etc. so you can edit videos quickly and always end up with smaller files.

franp User This is a very good piece of software ; version 6 was somewhat buggy but version 7 corrected most of the troubles. It requires a rather powerfull computer I must say. But the result is perfect. I use it to edit some h264 and h265 mkv movies, mostly to remove a few seconds of bad material - you know, when you have a completly out of context and useless sex scene in a movie which would otherwise be perfect for young people, there are more and more of that in recent movies...

Michael R. Here again my feature-request about 2 years/versions ago:

It would be great to have a way to jump quickly to the first/last frame of a current video-scene, i.e. to the next frame which differs in a relevant way from it's previous frame. It's quite time-consuming to find the exact frame, where to cut.

The answer was, it might be implemented in an upcoming version.

So, has it been implemented (or will be)?

Best would be if a face-recognition would have been implemented and it would be possible to include all the scenes with a certain person in it. But this would be much more difficult than my idea above.

For me, already owner of a previous version, this would be the reason to purchase the new version...

L User Perhaps some buyers are interested in the very specific way of version numbering with this product. I bought it at the end of November, 2018, it was version 6.1, so I thought that even with free updates just for minor versions, I would get some updates, and my version was "fresh". Less than 14 days later, in December 2018, version 7.0 appeared, without me having any right on it.

Dmitry Vergeles Hello franp User,
Thank you for your feedback, we appreciate it. You are correct, H265 video processing can consume a lot of system resources, which is related to the codec complexity - it is oriented to higher video resolutions - 2K, 4K etc., with HDR support in most cases and very high bitrate values. I would like to suggest using an x64 version of the Video Splitter to make it possible to handle such files.

Bruno User ATTENTION: This is now a subscription. I had BOUGHT (i.e. not: rented) SVS directly at the vendor, and this offer today here on bits reminded me to update again, from 7.6 to a newer 7.6, which seemed to work well.
I would now like to know if this newer 7.6 version has become a subscription, too, and if I should revert to my older version 7.6 in order to preserve my BOUGHT LICENSE.
AFTER PURCHASE, making your BUY a SUBSCRIPTION would be unacceptable, as is ANY subscription to begin with - but then you have the choice at least, to NOT PAY (since it's not a BUY anymore).

Dmitry Vergeles Hello Bruno,
Thank you for your post.
If you bought version 7 of Video Splitter previously, all minor updates are free of charge for you for version 7 (e.g. from ver. 7.6 to 7.7, 7.8), upgrades for subscription license are also free within the purchased period. If you need more information about your purchase and your version of Video Splitter, please contact us at supportsolveigmm.com.

Chris The site is misleading if it is true that the software goes back to trial if your subscription expires.

From the site:
All updates and upgrades are free of charge as long as the subscription stays active.
You can cancel you subscription at any time.

That implies that the software will continue to work and remain registered but you will no longer get updates or upgrades.

Which is it?

William W. User The change of licensing policy from version 7 to version 8 will have lost SolveigMM thousands of loyal cusomers.

Considering the considerable functionality of the program that is a pity.

Frankly, I don't understand this business decision probably stemmingv from the dessire to be fashionable and to please and attract the 365-crowd with a lot of money and little sense.

I will keep working with version 7 until SolveiigMM reconsiders their business policy.
