Sputnik I've contacted SpeedBase twice to cancel the automatic renewal of my three-monthly billing associated with the buying of the product, and I still haven't received a response from them.

On the 4-12-2019 SpeedBase Custom Database Creator said this :

The automatic renewal of annual support subscription can be canceled -any time- without making any payment. So there is practically no disadvantage of choosing 1 year support option as long as payment can be made by credit card. Many customers choose to keep their subscription as it gives them the advantage of renewing at a discounted price. The subscription can be managed by following the related invoice link which will be sent immediately after your purchase.

There is no link in the email they sent me after my buying which would allow such a cancellation and there is also no place in their website where to do it.

I just don't want to pay for the rest of my life for such a renewal, this would not be an honest business practice.

Dunking Has the issue with the database password been resolved?

I purchased this some while back from here on Bits, but after finding out that my data is locked behind a password you won't tell me, I've not used it. I don't understand why there is a password in the first place, and especially not why I can't be told what it is. That's the kind of behaviour one expects from the like of Adobe or Autodesk, not an independent developer.

As such, although I would like to use what seems to be otherwise a decent program, I've had to consider my purchase a waste of money.

SpeedBase Custom Database Creator There has never been an issue involving user data being locked behind an undisclosed password. The statement suggesting otherwise may cause confusion, so I would like to clarify how data access and security work.

SpeedBase includes an optional password protection feature for the application interface. This feature is entirely controlled by the user. If enabled, the password is set by the user themselves and it can also be left disabled.

At all times, users have full access to their data through the application interface. All data can be viewed, managed and exported whenever desired.

If the concern refers to direct access to raw data and internal system tables at the backend level, it is important to note that SpeedBase is designed to manage this data internally in a controlled and safe manner, while presenting it through a user-friendly interface. Restricting direct access to system level tables is a deliberate design choice intended to protect data integrity and prevent accidental corruption.

For users who prefer to manually manage raw database structures, there are other products in different categories (such as general purpose database servers) that are designed specifically for that use case. SpeedBase, however, prioritizes stability, consistency, and ease of use by handling low level data management internally.

No user data is hidden, withheld, or inaccessible through the application, and no undisclosed passwords exist for accessing one’s own data.

Dunking Yes, it is the prevention of access to the data other than through Speedbase that is my concern. Although the storage format is one that is relatively common and could be accessed with other applications, the presence of the password prevents that.

Often, I will use one program to generate data and perhaps a different one to display it in a way the original program doesn't manage. With, say, sqlite or SQL or Access or even DBIII that's not a problem because there are many different programs to do that. Indeed, a current sqlite database of electronic components is edited in one of two programs (depending on how I want to edit it) and displayed in a £10,000 CAD program without issue.

Speedbase looks pretty OK but it doesn't and can't do everything. If I use it then I am stuck with it and cannot use a more appropriate program when necessary. So my data has been locked into this Speedbase program and I cannot access it except by using Speedbase.

You could just lose the password or tell me what it is, and then I could do what I do without fear and you'd have a sale. You could even add in your T&C that you wash you hands of any data issues should the password be used (or, preferably, not be implemented).
