My greatest concern with this type of program is the ability to undo, e.g. to restore original settings, if the program makes things worse.

From http://www.cbs-soft.com/howto.htm:

"Caution: Before going any further, you are strongly advised to create a system restore point, so that if things go wrong, which is not very likely, you will have a backup.
This is NOT necessary if you use SpeedConnect Internet Accelerator. The original settings are automatically saved, and can be restored at any time, if needed."

Has anyone utilized the restore and confirmed that it works?

Joe M I have downloaded and installed the program. I received the activation key in my email but it won't except it.

I get a message that says: "ACTIVATION FAILED
Invalid activation. Please enter the required data as it appears in your registration email."

I tried doing a cut an paste and then a manual input of the Key, but neither one will work.

Before installing : DL 17.4Mbps UL 1.09Mbps.
After installing : DL 17.19Mbps UL 1.11Mbps
Can't see any improvement in the speed.

Little Bear The DSL service out where I live is questionable at times although very stable, but not speed wise, after I ran the automatic optimization on the computer using this program, I noticed a significant increase when using speedtest.net

Normally, I'm skeptical of these kinds of programs as I never see the benefits of why they won't / will work but this is the real deal.

wts @ Joe In my registration email the Registration Code paragraph gave a speedconnect email address, not my own email address, before the activation key. Very unusual - maybe has something to do with the freebee. Anyway, retry the activation with that email rather than your own. Bet the activation will be successful.

I forgot to measure "before" speed, but by looking at the numbers on their real-time speed display, I could see that my maximum speeds are frequently about 15% faster than before (as measured by other utilities), and the browser definitely seems snappier. Windows 7, Intel i7, DSL D/U ~1Mbps / ~450 Kbps.

I commend the company for giving a lot of useful information in the program and on their site that is well written and thoughtful. My guess is that the negative CNET comments mentioned by someone previously are an obvious series of plants by a single disgruntled person with some beef with someone at the company - just look at the similarity in language used. I never heard of this company or product before, but will surely keep an eye on them based on this product and the supporting documentation. Thanks again for the deal.

Joe M Thanks WS. When I used their email address instead of mine it did register.

After optimizing the program I only saw a slight increase in speed using Speedtest.net. When using the SpeeConnect program to test the connection, the speed was a bit lower. If the program wasn't free I would not be using it. I would not pay for it because the benefit I see is not worth the price.

Little Bear To everyone : You should have recieved an email from the developer with a key that replaces the the one that was originally provided by Bits Du Jour, where you use your email address and the code you recieved in the email to register. The code that Bits Du Jour gave out was only temporary and is expired by now.

Also, I just received a note from my ISP telling me that I have "uncommon" traffic, that I might be infected by a virus and that my connection will be terminated if I don't do anything in the next few hours...

By looking at the software, I see that it downloads/uploads always, even if I don't do anything... There's about a 5Gb of transfer since yesterday...

I hope the new key will correct that... and that it won't cause me any other problems...

Little Bear I've observed with the built in Speed tester application within Speed Connect Internet Accelerator, that around 80 - 89% or so, the download pauses for a good minute or two throwing the test off quite significantly.

In reply to the person who is seeing virus like activity, I strongly suggest running a full scan of your computer immediatley. I'm monitoring my traffic using that application and I don't notice the behavior you are experiencing. I uploaded this file to Virus Total and it did not come back with anything suspicious.

Nick Katz I downloaded it and purchased it (free) the day it was offered. The serial Igot won't work, however.
Actoivaction failed over and over. It only runs in Demo mode.

I'm observing similar behavior, however - I noticed that if the speed connection optimizer is not setup to start with Windows and you try to manually launch it, it says "Not Activated" unless you run the speed optimizer program itself first manually. I don't know if this is a program access bug in Windows 7 but I'm curious as to why this is constantly happening.

simon walker I had the same as above,it downloaded a massive file at full whack about 4gb for no reason.I uninstalled it to reinstall now wont activate just downloads a massive file and locks everything up at same time,have to end task.
Tried new install of win7 premium,is the same exactly,wont activate,locks everything up and downloads a massive file from their servers when i try activate it.
Contacted then a couple days after getting this,no reply
