What are people saying about Spreadspeed

Bernhard Will Spreadspeed be usable with internatinal versions of Excel?
May 13 2015 at 12:27am Copy Link
0
Nicholas Hebb @Bernhard - Supporting international versions of Excel was a goal throughout the development of Spreadspeed. We have an international user base and have not received any reports of localization problems. However, BreezeTree is a small company, and it's simply not possible for us to test it with every language pack. To ensure compatibility to your own satisfaction, I would recommend downloading the free trial and giving it a test run on your system. And if you do encounter any errors, let us know and we'll try to identify the problem and post a patched version as soon as possible.

Bruno Verschraegen Hello Nicholas.
Two questions...
- It looks like there are some interesting additional functions to another excel utility pack I already use from KuTools. Do you have some comparison or an overview of truly unqiue features of Spreadspeed?
- Running multiple utilities for the same programme sometimes creates problems. What is your experience with that for Spreadspeed? And have any inter-compatibility tests been conducted (in general or more specificaly with KuTools)?
I'd like to purchase this but also would like to be reassured ;-)

Nicholas Hebb @Bruno - To be honest, I've never worried about benchmarking against competitors. Most of them fall into two categories - utility packs and auditing tools. Spreadspeed combines both of those into a single add-in. The most comprehensive list of features is on the Spreadspeed product page (http://www.breezetree.com/spreadspeed/), which lists the features by category.

Regarding compatibility, Spreadspeed tuns within its own app domain, so normally there shouldn't be any conflicts. In the 10 years of selling Excel add-ins, I've only come across one issue. I forget what the company was, but their add-in was not compatible with any other add-in (not just ours).

Nicholas Hebb @abcshot1 - The license keys are distributed by Bits du Jour. I've emailed them to let them know of this issue. I'm not sure what their office hours are (they're based out of NYC), but I'm sure we can get this rectified as soon as possible.

S G Hi Nicholas-

Can you tell me if the software is:
a) Compatible with Excel 2007 running on WinXP
b) Compatible with any of the Excel clones (like Kingsoft Spreadsheets)

Thanks!

Nicholas Hebb Hi @S.G. -

> a) Compatible with Excel 2007 running on WinXP

It's compatible with Excel 2007, but not with WinXP. Spreadspeed was released after Microsoft dropped its official support for XP. By not supporting XP, we were able to use a newer version of the .NET framework, which has significant improvements for interacting with Excel.

> b) Compatible with any of the Excel clones (like Kingsoft Spreadsheets)

I'm sorry, but no.

Stephen Sieloff can I install this on more than 1 machine? I have both a laptop and a desktop ... I am only on 1 at any given time but need to have software compatibility on both so I can seamlessly transfer work between machines ... or will I have to purchase 2 separate copies of the tool?
May 14 2015 at 12:16pm Copy Link

Nicholas Hebb Hi @Stephen Sieloff -

Yes, the license agreement allows for installation on both a desktop and a laptop. (Your 2nd post is hidden by default, so I'm just repeating that for anyone skimming the comments.)

As for speed, the slowest operation is the formula dependents / precedents navigator. That tool is intended to be used more with a complex, analytical spreadsheet rather than a data storage spreadsheet. The table operations are the second slowest. They can handle millions of rows, but as you can probably guess, the speed is dependent upon the specs of your system.

Gunderic Hagen Am I allowed to download the app to various computers or only one?
Jan 5 2016 at 1:19am Copy Link

Nicholas Hebb @Jon - The latest version is 2.0. All purchases within the last year are eligible for a free upgrade. Version 2.0 was just released, so upgrade notifications haven't been emailed out yet.
BreezeTree Software - Jan 5 2016 at 1:30am Copy Link

Nicholas Hebb @Gunderic - Per the license agreement [which, I realize nobody reads :-) ], you can install the software on two systems under a single license.
BreezeTree Software - Jan 5 2016 at 1:32am Copy Link
0
Gunderic Hagen And do you allow the transfer of the app to a third PC, for example, if the original was stolen of the HD crashed? I realize that you would void the use of one of the two original computers, but that would of course be OK.
Jan 5 2016 at 1:38am Copy Link
0
Nicholas Hebb @Gunderic - Yes it's transferable to another PC.

Spreadspeed 2.0 supports Excel 2016, but only on the desktop. Excel 365 2016 includes the regular desktop version of Excel plus the web based "365" version of Excel. Currently, the web based version has a very limited API for creating add-ins, so a web version of Spreadspeed isn't viable at this point.
BreezeTree Software - Jan 5 2016 at 1:49am Copy Link

Gunderic Hagen Sorry, but I don't quite understand your statement. I have the 365 Office 2016 which I believe it is downloaded to my PC., and pay an annual subscription. What is the "web version you mention"?
Jan 5 2016 at 1:55am Copy Link
0
Nicholas Hebb With Office 365, you get the desktop versions of Excel, Word, etc, and with your subscription you should be able to login into https://www.office.com/ to access the web versions. I have not subscribed to Office 365 myself, so that's about as much as I know about accessing it.

Nicholas Hebb @RichV - I'm sorry, but due to the registry entries required for this kind of add-in, Spreadspeed needs to be installed on the C:\ drive.

bvssunnydale This might be strange question, can this (or any software you produce) easily select & move rows up, down (maybe even over a column or back)? I'm trying to find something that can perform common "outline" functions, but in Excel. Thanks.
Aug 17 2017 at 3:58am Copy Link
0
Nicholas Hebb @bvssunnydale - the closest Spreadspeed has to that is the Repeating Data function, which can remove repeated rows to create an outline. An screenshot example is shown on this page - http://www.breezetree.com...lities.htm (you'll need to scroll down to the Repeating Data section).

Petr I've been using this great Excel Add-in since January 2016, purchased on Jan. 6th. Can I download the lastest update from your website and just install it to upgrade to the latest version. My current version is 2.x, just wanting to get any more recent updates please?
Aug 17 2017 at 11:12am Copy Link
0
Nicholas Hebb @Petr - yes, you can download and install the latest release. Minor updates are always free.

Please note, however, that because of how add-ins are registered in Windows, the old copy must be uninstalled before the new version is installed. Your settings are retained between uninstall and re-install.

Nicholas Hebb @Stephen - There isn't a tool to colorize them, but there is a way to extract them to another sheet. From the text on the "Excel Table Query Tools" page on the website (https://www.breezetree.co...uery-tools), it details the Extract Duplicates feature as follows:

"Excel has a built-in tool to delete duplicates, and using the Advanced Filter or Conditional Formatting there are several tricky ways to highlight duplicate values. However, sometimes instead of deleting them or just highlighting them, you want to extract the the duplicates, which is where the Extract Duplicate Data tool comes in handy. it allows you to select up to three columns to sort the table, check above and below for duplicates, and then extract them to a new worksheet."

Mitchell User I purchased the license and with my registration code received this notification: "Upgrades to future versions of the software will be free for 3 months. For versions after that, upgrades will require additional payment, which will be discounted. It will be discounted only if you've purchased the last major version." The current version is 3.0.704. Does that mean if 3.0.705 is available after three months from today, I have to make an additional payment to purchase it? What about 3.1 and 3.2? Please advise so I can promptly request a refund.

bvssunnydale Hi, I can't tell what version this is? (Couldn't find its change log).I purchased ver 2 in 2016 (I very much like your Flow Breeze product - your quality is very high - but I think Spread Sheet requires a certain proficiency - or maybe immersion - in Excel I haven't achieved yet). So, just wondering what the version # is and what changes have occurred since ver 2.0. Thanks much.

Constantin Florea @bvssunnydale, The current version is 3.0.704 as it is written on this page:
https://www.breezetree.com/download

For discounted promotions such as this one, we always promote the latest version of the product.

Also, I couldn't find a change log on the product website however I just contacted the vendor about this.

Nicholas Hebb @bvssunnydale - A link to the change log is near the bottom of the download page that Constantin linked to above. We rolled the version because the primary component we used to interface with Excel (Addin Express) rolled out an upgrade for Excel 2019

Spreadspeed is feature complete. I'm the first to tell customers that if they have version 2, there is no compelling reason to upgrade.
